So, my husband and I wanted Chinese and the restaurant we were going to go to, but it was closed. So we searched for others and Osaka popped up. We decided to try out a new place and it was amazing! Their service is very efficient and they are very kind. The food came out quickly, but enough time in between apps and main courses and most importantly, the food was delicious! We both agreed we have not had general tso's this tasty for a long time! The cost is definitely more feasible than other restaurants as well. We did notice a sign that they offer byob. The dining room is very spacious. They can definitely accommodate large parties with enough space for regular groups. I was so excited to discover a Chinese restaurant near my Mom's house. We went for lunch and were the only patrons so we got lots of attention. My Mother has celiac so we needed something that didn't contain flour. The server did a great job of explaining what they could make for her. I settled on General Tso's and had wonton soup and an egg roll. The soup arrived nice and hot and was very good. I didn't care for the egg roll at all. My entree was huge, but I didn't like it at all. There was some kind of spice that I didn't like, and the chicken was slimy tasting even though it was cooked. I wanted to try a new Chinese restaurant and decided to try Osaka. They have PLENTY of parking which is super nice! My son loves General Tsos Chicken and when we got the food all I could say was wow! It was a great portion size and was really affordable! My boyfriend got the Velvet Chicken and I got the Spicy Tuna Roll. All of the food was delicious and had so much flavor. We also got the Egg Drop Soup and my boyfriend got the Hot and Sour Soup. It was soooo good. The server was super friendly too! They boxed up all our leftovers for us. What a nice surprise it was to dine here! Everything we had was delicious, starting w the very flavorful wonton soup. I tried scallion pancakes for the first time...although a bit greasy, they were amazing! My friend had an order of lo mein which was tasty and a HUGE portion. The meal was decent overall, servers were friendly, and the food came quickly. The restaurants was fairly empty but we were there during the week and it looked like they did a decent takeaway business. I had a sweet potato tempura roll and enjoyed it. My husband had a spicy tuna roll and salmon avocado roll and wasn't thrilled with his. Wonton soup and miso soup were good. Our main dishes were chicken with string beans (good not great) and the vegetable udon noodles (had zero flavor). Stopped in for a quick lunch. I got the lunch sushi. It was ver reasonably priced and the sushi was good, very fresh. My friends' meals were also good and the portions were big enough that they both were left with left overs. The service was very quick and our waitress was able to meet all of our needs. The ambiance was similar to most Chinese restaurants in Pittsburgh, it could definitely use some updating, but it's fine for a short lunch. I have left a review a little more than two years ago for Osaka when it was owned by the two previous owners, Andy and Mae. The photos that were on that old review were taken by me in my own kitchen and do not apply to this review. I'd like to have my two photos removed from their website because my review has changed since the new ownership. The new owners, Karen and Jenny, are very delightful and welcoming. My husband and I used to go to Osaka for sushi and sashimi at least 1-2 times each week. We would sit at the sushi bar and only eat sushi. I cannot give a review of anything else on the menu because I do not know. However, the restaurant is not very busy and does not do a whole lot of dine-in or takeout business, unfortunately. I no longer go to Osaka for this reason. The only items I enjoy at a sushi bar/ Japanese restaurant are the raw fish items. If the restaurant is not busy, it scares me to order anything raw because it cannot always be fresh enough to consume raw. I would like to give a better review. I cannot go back to Osaka for this reason. Like I really wish things were different, because the two ladies who own Osaka now are so nice and I want them to succeed. read more

Since living in the Crafton/Greentree area, I'd like to think I've tried the best of the best when it comes to sushi and Asian cuisine. Osaka is among my favorites because of the freshness of their food and quality of their service. If you want fresh sushi, quick take out, friendly service, and large portions, this is the place to go. I've been coming to Osaka for a little over a year and a half now, and I've never been disappointed. Typically my experiences here have mostly been getting take-out, but I've had a couple dine-in experiences as well. From what I recall dining in was as pleasant as can be, no complaints there. On cold, rainy, days, however, there aren't many things I enjoy more than getting some good takeout to enjoy while wearing sweats in the comfort of my own home. Osaka has been a part of countless takeout nights between my boyfriend and I, and this is usually where I order takeout from when my brother is visiting, too. My favorite roll has always been the Philly roll, and Osaka makes a mean one! This past weekend I got a Fantasy roll (Tobiko, tuna, and avocado), and a shrimp tempura roll. The pieces of fish were all rather generous and all of the ingredients seemed fresh as can be. I'm always a happy camper when I get some good sushi. Some of my other favorite rolls I've had here are the sunshine roll (tuna and white tuna), rock & roll (toasted salmon, eel, avocado, cucumber, and tobiko), and nearly any other roll I've tried. Usually I don't go all out with the super-complex rolls, but once in a while you have to treat yourself! On to the dinner foods. My boyfriend has recently been ordering lamb every time we go out for Asian food, and he seemed to be pretty impressed with the portion size and quality of the lamb and scallions he ordered this past Saturday. During past visits I've ordered orange chicken, honey chicken, and General Tso's (basic, I know), and they were all amazing. They usually put takeout in a brown paper bag and even 1 person's order looks like enough to feed a small family. Pricing is comparable to other similar restaurants, but I've never complained about the price for as much food as you get here. Overall there is nothing bad I can really say about Osaka off the top of my head. If anything, a pointer I have for newcomers is to not trust your GPS because it won't take you to the correct turn to get into Scott Towne Center. This was confusing at first, but it was so worth it once I made it to the restaurant! read more

I've adored this place since I moved to Pittsburgh the first time back in 2006. Since I can't seem to order them online to my job or home, it's been a while since I have been here (I JUUUUST miss that delivery line!) but they have completely outdone themselves this time. I will get to that later in the review but will focus on the food to start with, since that's the important thing anyway! I have enjoyed many dishes throughout the years from Osaka. Their sushi is always fun, fresh, and well prepared. I always liked the tuna tataki salad and would make sure to get this each time I ordered. Their lunch specials are a great value. I last had the shrimp and scallops szechuan which has a spicy sauce that was delicious when added to my fried rice. The orange chicken has been a favorite with everyone I have brought here as well. Now for the real reason for this review. I have a coworker who has an extreme gluten allergy. I was given a list of 7 or so orders for a meeting we were having and I tried to order from a certain hibachi place down the street from Osaka. The woman was not very nice and I scrambled to find a place that would have gluten-free options and quick delivery, so I called my favorite similar place in the area. I spoke to a gentleman who was so kind and understanding of the situation and assured me they would be able to make many items gluten free. Once I got a quick new order form from everyone, we were in business. I called back and spoke to the same man. He took our orders with great detail and offered suggestions for my coworker. Once we received our orders, he called back a short time later to make sure that everything was up to standard and that my coworker enjoyed his meal. It has been a long time since I have had such care from a restaurant and I will continue to be a patron of this great and friendly place. read more

I'm really impressed! First off, there were 8 or 10 orders on their way out - take out. So they have a strong local following. I enjoyed their huge diverse menu with lots of great options. I went for Miso soup and ginger salad to start. Both were delicious with lots of fresh flavor. Then I had a couple of sushi rolls - spicy salmon with avocado & roe. Osaka, a longtime favorite of ours, is under new ownership and dine in is open again. Though I really miss the old owners (you'll still see some of the original staff), the sushi remains a favorite of ours. There are several new rolls that have been added, and much of the original sushi menu remains as is. We've liked all the new rolls we've tried, and though the original items may be made slightly differently, they are wonderful none-the-less. The new owners are also very friendly and the service has been great. I do miss the previous owners, but don't hesitate to come back for dine in and check out the updated menu. read more

Met a friend for a quick meal and he selected O, since this is his go to chinese place. Not easy to spot in Scott Towne Center shops, but a real nice restaurant with white table cloths. Nice touch! Service was very good, friendly and on top of everything. Not real imaginative in my selection, just wanted shrimp fried rice. It was very good, better than a neighboring chinese place! It was fried too long & no cheese left in it. It also didn't come with the dip it normally comes with. There were packets of duck sauce and mustard but the duck sauce had absolutely no flavor at all. We love this place so much! The food is DELICIOUS, it's BYOB, and the staff/owners are so gracious and welcoming! We had a round table for 3 couples last night and everyone raved about their food! Karen is such a sweet server. Our favorites are their wonton soup, pork egg roll, kung pao shrimp and General Tso Chicken. One in our group had sushi and said it was the best white tuna they ever had!! As far as ambiance, it's such a cozy space just wish the lights could be dimmed a bit because it's fairly bright. So disappointed... didn't order any sushi,; had won ton soup, sweet and sour shrimp, chicken with vegetables and fried rice. Everything was flavorless, like it had no seasoning s. The shrimp had to be pre-packaged, way too much breading with tiny shrimp inside, sauce had no flavor. Won ton soup tasted like they threw a beef bullion cube in water with a bunch of noodles. I ordered takeout: chicken with snow peas and I added cashews. It is NOT noted on the menu that this dish is made with white sauce rather than brown sauce. I, unfortunately, discovered this when I got the order home. The dish has no flavor, whatsoever. I called the restaurant to speak to them about my order. The response I got was: "White sauce is light, most people like brown sauce. That's why we put the soy sauce in there. It will help." Wow. So $14 for chicken, a bunch of white vegetables (bamboo shoots, water chestnuts), a couple of snow peas, and some cashews tossed in a translucent, slimy, tasteless coating. Super appetizing. No, I don't think soy sauce will help but, thanks. EDIT: After calling to be sure I wasn't over-charged for this inedible mess, I was given more excuses by a male employe: "We can make dishes with any sauce you'd like but the menus aren't updated so, no, it doesn't say on the menu that the dish you ordered comes in white sauce. In the future, ask what sauce the dish is in when you're ordering." So I asked "if you know it was your lack of information that caused the problem, why not just replace the dish?" He just kept repeating that he was sorry but offered no compensation. At that point, I was done. Then the same man called back and informed me that the chef offered me $7 toward a new meal. Honestly, after all of the run-around and the lack of concern, I have no desire to give more money to this establishment. Paying an extra $7 would mean that I paid $21 for an edible dish. I pulled up and there are many signs that say TAKE OUT ONLY... I came in to a huge empty restaurant and a woman showed me the bag directly in front of me it my order I asked for additional napkins and she handed me 5 cocktail napkins. Opening my double knot bag there was one actual napkin and a plastic fork no chopsticks ‍ The sushi was very good tasty and quality unfortunately they did it in white rice but wasn't a deal breaker I agree this is a great sushi take out spot but by the looks of business I'm scared they may be getting pushed out read more
