Ordered some pad thai thru DoorDash and honestly the food is decent! Delivery didn't take super long. I can't speak to the ambiance but I've passed by a few times before and it looks like a cute place. I think it just ended up being a bit cold but that's to be expected during lunch time delivery. I got the hoi jaw and a Thai tea. Let me first say the hoi jaw is one of the best things I ever had. The fried tofu skin is so crunchy and the meat filling taste absolutely phenomenal with the sweet chili house sauce. This "appetizer" is so good that I would easily just order two of them and call that a meal. The that tea was also really good, it was sweet, milky , and refreshing! I recently ordered takeout from Thai Gourmet. Online ordering was very easy and pickup was a breeze. I ordered the green curry noddles and a Thai lime iced tea. Everything was so good! As the menu reads, Thai Gourmet is family run and woman owned since 2004, so you know it's good! They no longer take reservations, but welcome BYOB. I ordered the hoi jawh appetizer, but was told that the restaurant was out of it. Instead, my group split the tempura broccoli. It was lightly fried to perfection as if melting in your mouth. I noticed that the pumpkin curry was listed in red ink on the menu, denoting that it had a minimum spice level of 3. I spoke with the waitress and was reassured that it was not completely overpowering as spicy is not my preference. To my delight, she was right, and the pumpkin curry was a delicious seasonal dish. The other girls in my group enjoyed the Yum Tofu salad and Tom Yum Noodle Bowl. The atmosphere is quaint and cutely decorated, with lots of pick up order customers coming through on a Friday evening. This is my personal favorite Thai restaurant in the Pittsburgh area. There are some top competitors, but this one is always solid. I've eaten here with friends and family many times. Everyone loves this place, it has a very friendly and hospitable feeling. BYOB is a plus, but as a wine drinker, I've never brought in a bottle (This might change next week ;) The food just speaks for itself in a great way. I'm always so happy with the smells and the taste, I feel that alcohol just gets in the way. Tom Yum soup is always a litmus test for me and they own it. I've only had better at Nikki's Thai Kitchen downtown but that is a different atmosphere and experience. The fried tofu and seitan have always been top notch. The menu has been refined over the years, but I think that's a good thing because the quality is what counts, not the number of options. Initially, I used to come here for affordable home-style Thai cuisine. But since the pandemic hit the restaurant, I've witnessed major price increases with no change in quality or quantity. Next time, I'd opt for a hot for the cashew nut chicken if you are someone who likes spicy food and can take a kick. In regards to the actual food, I'll start with portion side. I haven't been to many Thai restaurants in Pittsburgh, but this place was definitely quite tasty! It made me more curious about Thai culture and was a great way to introduce me to the cuisine. Specifically, I got the Pad See Ew, Todd Mun, and Thai Spring Rolls. My noodles were delicious. The sauce was evenly spread throughout the noodles and had a slightly sweet taste to it, which I enjoyed immensely. However, if I ate all of the food, I believe the sauce would be a little overwhelmingly sweet. The noodles themselves seemed to be a bit charred or caramelized almost, which added smokiness and depth to the dish's flavor. It had a decent amount of broccoli and protein (I chose chicken, and it was for no additional cost). Chicken came in thin slices and was cooked well. And the portion...wow, it was more than I expected! Especially for the price, this portion is truly huge; it's enough for at least two meals. The appetizers I ordered were the Todd Mun and the spring rolls. Todd Mun is essentially a fish cake, and it was relatively crispy and had a good texture. To me, it wasn't very flavorful, though. Spring rolls were exactly what I wanted from a spring roll: crispy, filled with cabbage, and served with a nice, somewhat sweet sauce (although it also had chilies in it). Appetizer portions are fine, but not as great of a deal as the main course. Overall, this is a great little Thai restaurant that serves quite large portions for a cheap price. We got the fried rice and pad Thai just to try out the spice and it was soo good. I'll admit the fried rice isn't the best dish to get with thai spicy as it absorbs all the hotness, but the pad Thai was fantastic! We got them both with shrimp and would highly recommend. For my entree I chose E10 Japanese Eggplant with Shrimp. I love this type of eggplant so I ordered extra! I capped it off with mango sticky rice for dessert which was great! I was casually walking around this area when I passed this restaurant. For those familiar with the area, there is no dearth of Thai food in this area but since we walked passed it, we decided to give this place a try! I've had some other Thai food in town so my expectations were high. I ordered the Red Curry, medium spicy. The food was ready for carry out in about 15 minutes which wasn't too much of a wait at all. With COVID and all, there was no seating inside the restaurant, but there still seemed to be quite a number of people going in and out placing and picking up orders. The portion size and price is pretty reasonable here. However, I think the food itself was just okay. It was not bad by any means, but was quite oily and left me feeling quite heavy at the end of my meal. The flavors were also dampened I felt, by the oil that was swimming towards the top. All in all, if you're passing by and want to try it, you'll have a decent meal. They gave us ample time to look at the menu and place our order. One thing to remember when you visit this place is, they follow the spice levels sincerely. So, please know your spice level before you place order here. We ordered chicken satay, Pad thai, and pineapple curry. The portion sizes are generous, and the plate is well made and organized. I will start with the chicken satay. They are generous portions of 6 chicken served over 6 sticks with peanut chutney and other veggies on the side. The chicken is well marinated and packed with subtle flavors. It is so juicy that I liked it just by itself with any peanut chutney. However, adding the peanut chutney just added another layer of flavor which made it even better. I highly recommend this dish. We ordered Pad thai with breaded tilapia and spice level of 6. Usually, the add-ons at many other places are less in quantity. However, they added generous amount of tilapia to the Pad thai. Just the noodles with fried egg and tamarind sauce flavor is delicious and adding tilapia to it just elevated the dish to another level. We had enough to bring it back home for a late dinner! Last, but not the least, pineapple curry which is served with a good bowl of rice and a spice level of 5. The dish looked so colorful and again generous quantity with a good number of pineapple chunks. I loved the soupy part of the dish which consisted of coconut flavor mixed with a bunch of other spices. Good quantity for one person if they are extremely hungry, but there will enough for a left over if you are someone with a small appetite. The wonderful family and their wonderful food actually kept her alive a bit longer than she would have lived, and added considerably to her quality of life. So I'm crying when I'm writing this.
