a menu for a chinese restaurant
    Patrick P.

A pretty good place where I have eaten a couple of times. Please note - I recommend take out - you can eat there but the atmosphere is similar to a Diary Queen ;-) Good food - in a place where there are not many choices without a 10-15 minute drive in any direction. I recommend any of their dishes. They serve chicken on skewers in lieu of chicken wings. They were pretty tasty. Food - Portions are large (dinner) and prepared well Price - $5-11 Atmosphere - meh Enjoy!

Went here tonight because my usual spot was closed. The restaurant itself is clean, there are a few tables for dining in. I ordered takeout. I'd say items a reasonably priced, actually a little better than other Chinese places. I had a regular egg roll which was great. I had the chicken and broccoli (my go to) and it just didn't have great flavor and was pretty bland. The veggies seemed fresh though. A friend I was with ordered the veggies sautéed in garlic and said they were great.

It was just okay. The quality of the food was sub par compared to what other options the area has. Prices are good though.

I've tried a few noodle dishes, including Pad Thai and Pad See Yew, and my husband has tried a few of the curry and rice dishes. The space is small and cozy and tucked into a quiet strip mall building off of Babcock, and they have a pickup area for takeout orders when you first walk in. The portions are good and they have a wide spectrum of food options on their menu! I'd like to try dining in at some point in the future. In full transparency, I will say that I was a bit put off when I last picked up my order because both the waiting area and my view into the kitchen did not appear to be very clean, and I had to ask twice for the order that I'd placed over the phone. That said, it could have been an off night, so perhaps take that with a grain of salt. It's currently not my first choice for Thai food in the area (it's a personal journey to find one's go-to takeout spots, IMO!), but still, it's a good option if you're nearby!

We were fortunate to find a parking spot for our vehicle in front of the restaurant, but some free street parking is supposed to be available. The employees promptly and politely served us. The menu listed appetizers (e.g., gyoza and takoyaki), soups (e.g., wonton and tom kha), noodles and rices (e.g., pad Thai, lo mein, and yakisoba), noodle soups (e.g., tom yum and duck noodle), specials (e.g., peanut chicken, steak teriyaki, and grilled mahi mahi), sushi (e.g., salmon, octopus, red snapper, bluefin tuna, and yellowtail), poke bowls, ramen, bento boxes, and desserts (e.g., mochi ice cream, taiyaki, and mango sticky rice). Here are my ratings for what we ate: Thai Iced Tea - 5 stars - My husband really enjoyed the flavors of the tea, milk, spices, and sugar. Umai Sampler - 3.5 stars - This appetizer contained 2 crab rangoon, 2 spring rolls, 2 steamed dumplings, and 2 shrimp tempura. Green Curry Noodle Soup - 3.5 stars - This soup had a large serving size and was filled with nicely cooked rice noodles and vegetables such as broccoli, bell peppers, eggplant, and basil. I did think that it could have contained more coconut milk for a sweeter taste. Furthermore, I had requested a spicy level of 5 or medium, but the waiter recorded 4 and brought me broth that tasted more like 8. Green curry is my favorite Thai food, and this one did not quite match my expectations. Umai Street Noodle - 3 stars - My husband ate this main course. He had requested a spicy level of 2, and it was that level. It contained egg noodles, BBQ pork, wonton, bok choy, bean sprouts, and scallion. He said, "That was as average as average could be." The total price was $55 plus tax and tip.

There were…read moretwo restaurants close to where we were but Avor had better reviews so we decided to visit here. The inside of the restaurant is cozy and has a variety of table options. You also see the tank for the beer that they brew on site. It is certainly something that makes them unique as I don't think I've ever been to a thai restaurant that brewed before. We had a variety of appetizers and entrees. My kids had the chicken satay and said they really enjoyed it. The chicken was tender and not overly cooked. They asked for extra sauce (so they don't fight over it) and loved both sauces it comes with. As an FYI, they do charge for extra sauce, but it is very reasonable for the add on. Our server told us about the extra charge so it was nice to not be surprised at the end when our bill came. Overall, too, our server was knowledgeable and friendly and fun with the kids. I tried handcrafted puffs with chicken because it was something I had never had before. They were perfection. Crispy, a nice size and packed with flavor. I'd go back just for more of those puffs. My kids had chicken pad thai, my husband the panang curry and I tried the ka-prao. We all really enjoyed our dishes. They had the right amount of spice that we each ordered and you could tell the ingredients were all fresh. I didn't love mine, so I'd order something different if I went back. There was nothing wrong with it. It was tasty and as advertised, I've just had versions that I prefer over theirs. They didn't have mango sticky rice but the kids really wanted dessert, so we tried the black sticky rice with taro in coconut milk. It was interesting to try something new and everyone really enjoyed it. Overall, a great experience and I can see why it was so highly rated.

There is some seating inside, but it's mostly a takeout joint. Also note that the parking is a little awkward, with some level of uncertainty around whether you might be blocked in. Other than that, this seems like a pleasant and well-run establishment. Our order was ready to go exactly when it was expected to be. In terms of the food, almost everything was fantastic. The salad rolls (fresh rolls) were excellent. A nice combination of flavors and textures, with just enough basil and lettuce flavor and crunch. The accompanying dipping sauce was equally good. The rolls also look significantly better than the photos on the web site. The tom yum soup was equally flavorful and well crafted. I generally stand at the ready with extra fish sauce and a squeeze of lime, but that was completely unnecessary here. The papaya salad was a bit of a miss, and the woon sen pad Thai was as well. Both seemed a little flat and in need of extra flavor. The red curry and sweet and sour stir fry were both excellent. Taken as a whole, everything was great. We opted for spiciness levels between 6 and 8 for various items, and that seemed like a good range for us. All told, this is an excellent destination. It's not the world's most convenient location, but it's among the better Thai restaurants I've tried in Pittsburgh. Well worth checking out.

We didn't see much of the inside because we chose the option to enjoy our meal outside in the garden. Fortunately, we were able to snag a 5:30 PM reservation a couple Fridays ago. My friend set up notification alerts on Resy and a different party canceled their reservation the day before. This restaurant is very popular. KHAO YUM - 24 This is a 17 ingredient salad with tamarind dressing. I'm not usually a salad person, but this one was incredibly delicious and refreshing. Lots of crispy textures from the various vegetables, some juicy, tart and bitter pieces of grapefruit, and the crispy rice was the perfect fried carb on top. A bit pricy, but a great app to share for the whole table. CRISPY SHRIMP - 32 We were each able to get two pieces of shrimp among the four of us. The shrimp was batter and fried with a sweet garlicky glaze. While it was crispy and juicy, I thought it was a bit too saucy. It wasn't my favorite, but one of my friends really enjoyed the shrimp -- sauce and all. KHAO SOI - 48 The red and yellow curry was flavorful, and the egg noodles were perfectly soft with a bit of chew. The wagyu beef cheek was tender, but there wasn't much in it. Overall, I thought this was a bit too overpriced for what it was. MASSAMAN CURRY - 48 Incredibly phenomenal The massaman curry was incredibly rich with its sweet and savory flavor. Each order came with a whole lamb shank. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful -- it fell off the bone with ease. I highly recommend this entree for its delicious curry and lamb. Overall, pricy food with a elegant aesthetic. It's also more of fusion Thai food than it is authentic.
