Hunan sauce veggies with fried rice
    Risha P.

This is a small bistro type - I travelled here from Washington, PA just to pick up take out after the good reviews and it was definitely worth it! I got the lunch special of hunan sauce with veggies and fried rice and hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup was AMAZING! I wish I had ordered an extra one. I love this soup and very few places make it authentic - this one was PERFECT! I really want to go back and ask for the recipe and have more of it. Hunan sauce with veggies and fried rice was soooo sooo goood! It was so authentic and just perfect taste wise! Enough veggies and cooked perfectly. If I lived here I would be a weekly customer! The owner/ worker was so pleasant and welcoming! They have such an extensive menu wish I could have tried more things! By far one of the best traditional basic Chinese meals.

Both dining in and takeout are available. The employees kindly speak with us, and they promptly seat us, take our orders, and bring our beverages and foods. In my past reviews, I rated the tuna tartar trio, salmon martini starter, Thai-style rangoon, chicken hibachi, and salmon hibachi as 5 stars each, and I rated the hibachi steak bento box with a spring roll as 4.5 stars and the chicken hibachi bento box with pork gyoza as 4 stars. For our most recent visit, here are my ratings for what we ate: Sushi and Sashimi for 2 - 5 stars - This gorgeous sushi boat contained 10 pieces of chef's choice sushi, 18 pieces of chef's choice sashimi, and 2 rolls--Dragon Roll (eel, cucumber, and avocado) and Volcano Roll (batter-fried mixed fish and avocado with house-special sauce and tobiko/roe). They all tasted delicious. Hibachi Steak - 5 stars - The steak was juicy and flavorful, and it came with fried rice, soup, salad, and two pieces of shrimp. Pad Thai - 5 stars - The rice noodles were cooked well, and I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce and my choice of protein of chicken.

The ginger dressing was very light and zesty and not so much peanut-flavored like you typically get. The miso soup was very rich and savory. As for the entrée, the Bento box had the red curry chicken with vegetables, spring roll with plum sauce, rice, and some sushi. Everything in the box was fresh, quality ingredients. I especially liked the crispy spring roll (not greasy and had great flavor). The sushi didn't miss either. For the red curry, was milder than I was expecting and would have liked a little more pepper spice to it. But it was still pretty good. The hot tea I ordered didn't taste like typical hot tea; something almost earthy and nutty about it, but it was delicious. The people working at the restaurant were gracious and speedy with the service (it's a family business which is always good to see). I'd love to come again next time I'm up here and try more sushi dishes. Great place!

We heard from across the room that they were one person down in the kitchen, but was that ever relayed to us? Never! Service was super terse and hurried. Three tables of diners sat down and left, after never having someone visit in 15-20 minutes, yet the kitchen kept pumping out To Go orders, instead of pausing or delaying carryout. I can't imagine what those tables that left might relay to friends and family... We loved our food! But with options upon options, you gotta get the in-house ship right, or make hard choices of pausing or delaying your To Go orders when life gives you lemon workers.

Since I've never had the last, I wenr for the datshi stew with chicken and vegetables (I could make out peppers, broccoli, maybe sliced potafoes?). The base is fermented cottage cheese, mixed with spice - very hot! But tasty and different than anything you've had. The spring rolls were ok - some were great and crispy, others were a little mushy (as the great Ludacris once noted, "Spring rolls are unpredictable.") The entrée is what matters. I'd come again and try more next time I'm up this way.

I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.

We ordered Sweet Corn Soup, which was rich, sweet, and savory. Bits of chicken really deepened the flavor. The Lentil Soup was more delicate, vegetarian (I think) and lighter bodied. I liked both, but LOVED the Sweet Corn Soup. The Paneer Kulcha was a delicious flat bread with a mild cheese center. I'd been to many Indian restaurants and don't recall ever seeing it before. So glad we tried it. Our entrees were the Lamb Rogan Josh and Lamb Chettinadu. Both were thick, saucy, and delicious served with Basmati Rice. My husband ordered the former and had it made extra spicy. We enjoyed both. Lastly, I had the Salt Lassi, one of my favorite yogurt drinks. My husband had South Indian Buttermilk on a dare (mine) and we loved both. The South Indian Buttermilk had an interesting spiced flavor and mint. The milk beverages always seem to make my tummy happy, especially when I indulge in spicy foods. I would encourage you to go if you like Indian foods. Many regional cuisines are represented. There is some seating inside, but it's mostly a takeout joint. Also note that the parking is a little awkward, with some level of uncertainty around whether you might be blocked in. Other than that, this seems like a pleasant and well-run establishment. Our order was ready to go exactly when it was expected to be. In terms of the food, almost everything was fantastic. The salad rolls (fresh rolls) were excellent. A nice combination of flavors and textures, with just enough basil and lettuce flavor and crunch. The accompanying dipping sauce was equally good. The rolls also look significantly better than the photos on the web site. The tom yum soup was equally flavorful and well crafted. I generally stand at the ready with extra fish sauce and a squeeze of lime, but that was completely unnecessary here. The papaya salad was a bit of a miss, and the woon sen pad Thai was as well. Both seemed a little flat and in need of extra flavor. The red curry and sweet and sour stir fry were both excellent. Taken as a whole, everything was great. We opted for spiciness levels between 6 and 8 for various items, and that seemed like a good range for us. All told, this is an excellent destination. It's not the world's most convenient location, but it's among the better Thai restaurants I've tried in Pittsburgh. Well worth checking out.
