So delicious! Made to order and the service is excellent. Momos are definitely home made and the portions are generous. BYOB.

    Vegetarian thali with mango lassi

I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough and don't understand how it wasn't busier the Saturday evening we were there. This "Asian" eatery on a block of famous New American establishments serves selections of Chinese and Indian dishes, but I come for the Nepali thali (a platter of multiple small dishes) and Bhutanese datsi (more like a curry). We also had vegetarian momo (soup dumplings) and some of the best lassi in the city. Everything was delicious, and I love bringing visitors to the city here!

I wanted to try something new so I went for the pork thali and wow I am speechless. Truly some of the best food I've ever had. The pork was nicely seasoned and had a nice grill taste to it. The side dishes were some of my favorite parts of the meal. The pickled vegetables weren't too tart and was a nice compliment to the fatty pork. The spinach was aromatic and had a char flavor to it. The sautéed veggies with red sauce was also really good - just man not generally a fan of carrots so that didn't get finished. I usually don't like lentils, but mixed with rice here was amazing. The red sauce was spicy and good addition to anything. The rice pudding was a great end! Also the rice was flavored so well... I was obsessed. Our food came out to fast and everyone was attentive to our needs. The restaurant is small, and when I went it was empty but it was great on the inside.

If you're trying to go on an adventure with flavor and texture, get some thali. I ordered takeout from here on my lunch break. I got the chicken thali. The dish had chicken as the main component with a side of lentil soup and various vegetables, pickles, and rice. Every item tasted completely different when eating it in different orders, but all tied together perfectly. It definitely was an experience. The rice pudding at the end of it was also great. Next time I may get the vegetable thali - the vegetables were that good! They had great texture being both soft and firm. My order was ready when I arrived. I was a little confused on the price because the man working was very soft spoken. The restaurant is on a busy street in Deutchtown, but inside feels relaxing. I would love to come back and dine in.

Subba Asian Restaurant serves multiple Asian cuisines--Nepali, Bhutanese, Chinese, and Indian. Several of my Yelp Elite friends had recommended this restaurant (thank you!), and I had not previously eaten Nepali and Bhutanese foods, so I decided to place an order for several foods. Here are my reviews for my foods: Chicken Sadeko - 4.5 stars - This appetizer is a salad that contains chunks of marinated chicken as well as a mixture of vegetables such as carrots, onions, and cabbage (I think). It tasted moderately spicy. Chicken Thali - 5 stars - Thali consists of several dishes that are served on a platter. I did not eat my food inside the restaurant, so the food instead came in styrofoam containers. I received several cups of the following: chunks of chicken (moderately spicy), curried vegetables (moderately spicy), dal lentils, saag spinach, pickled salad, kheer rice pudding (sweet), rice, and sauce (moderately spicy). I really enjoyed the diverse flavors. Vegetables Datsi - 4 stars - Datsi is a type of stew that contains cheese and other ingredients. For this datsi, I chose vegetables, and I believe that they included celery, carrots, onions, cabbage, and peppers. This entree had a moderate-high spiciness and was served with rice on the side. Beef Lo Mein - 4 stars - My husband does not like to try new cuisines, so I ordered him a "safe" entree of beef lo mein. This entree contained chunks of beef, noodles, and I believe scallions, onions, and egg. This entree tasted decent, but my husband recommended that the kitchen add more flavor to the beef. Sesame Chicken - 4 stars - This entree was also for my husband. The chicken was juicy inside and had a crispy exterior. The flavor was slightly sour.

We ordered on the phone and picked it up and it was hot and ready. We got Hunan chicken and pan fried dumplings and it was all delicious. The dumplings and the sauce were the stars of the show for sure. The people working there were super nice. Definitely will be coming back soon.

What an awesome spot. Pretty hidden away and easy to miss, but it seems that many of the best spots are hole in the wall. They have a very diverse menu that includes Bhutanese, Nepalese, Indian, and Chinese food. I got to try out their dal with rice, kheer, and mango lassi. Wow. Everything was just so, so good. Great portions too. The dal with rice was perfectly spiced. It had that very nice home cooking touch to it that I just can't quite describe. But very very good. And cheap too! The mango lassi was very good too. Again, such an amazing portion for a pretty reasonable price. It was a tad too orange looking when I initially saw it, but the flavor was quite good, so no problems there. Definitely hit the spot and would be a must get if you order a very spicy dish (the dal wasn't excessively spicy). Looked a bit too watery at first, but once you stir it, you see the whole dal kernels, and they are amazing. The kheer...wow. The portion for this was absolutely huge. And it was still nice and warm when I got it! Not the most flavorful perhaps (some raisins would be an amazing add on), but still very creamy and delicious. Amazing. All in all, I'm so glad I finally got to try this place out. I've been wanting to go for upwards of 3 years now, and I finally did. Would love to come back and order everything I ordered plus the momo and Bhutanese food.

Stopped by on a Friday evening to get dinner with a friend. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived so we had no issues getting a table. I got a mango lassi to drink which was the perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess! I also ordered chicken momos and the chicken sadeko for my meal. I enjoyed the momos although they do have a heavy ginger flavor. The chicken sadeko was really tasty but spicy. The meal was good but I did end up getting an upset stomach afterwards which may have been from the sadeko being too spicy for me so just a heads up!

I love love love this place so much. The food is excellent and flavorful. I did not think I was going to be this impressed with the flavor profiles to be this intense and enjoyable. The pork thali was presented well and it was probably a 6/10 spicy. The curried chicken was an ok dish but I'm sure someone else would like it more. The chicken datsi was the most impressive dish. I have never had Bhutanese food before and this is a very creamy and cheesy dish. It is so good I am craving it now, as I write this review. Don't even get me started on the chicken sadeko- bursting with flavors. You MUST get this dish. Clean and chic restaurant good for family dinners or dates. Service is slow as they did not have enough staff so be kind to them and be patient. The food is worth the wait

I'm updating my review in celebration of Subba's new location. First, the food is absolutely amazing and authentic. If you don't know where to start, definitely order the Momo, the quintessential regional dish, and Subba has perfected it. Thukpa is an extraordinary soup dish that transcends words. Flavorful, complex and robust are true but, Thukpa is something you have to experience, and it's a perfect complement to Momo. The Thali is a lot of food, and offers a sampling of many different flavors Second, there are plenty of choices here for vegetarians. Most restaurants offer a single vegetarian option, Subba surpasses that by far. Third, you can order what you want, but the strengths of Subba are in the outstanding Nepalese and Bhutanese offerings. Fourth, Subba is a great value, and for example, offers free corkage. The new location offers a beautiful storefront window and updated, sleek accommodations. The other location was "charming," but distracted from the great food. Subba can get busy, especially on weekends, so show some patience. Some of the food is spicy, because that's how they roll in Nepal. There are spice guides on the menu, or you can ask for help. The owner is the kindest gentleman, and he loves feeding people and introducing people to the real deal. Consider yourself lucky if you are able to meet him. So treat yourself to experiential dining. For authenticity, vegetarian options, and delicious meals, you will not find better.

I ordered pick up. Service was fine, food was ready and hot. I wasn't keen on the portion but I'm small so it was perfectly reasonable for me. Food was tasty, you could tell the meat was good meat and cooked with care/time. The preparation also seemed to be deliberate and careful. I would try again

The location was a little sketchy looking but the food was delicious. The service was good and the staff were friendly. Parking was weird as the only parking right in front said something about permit parking and after circling the nearby blocks looking for street parking and not having any luck, we parked in front and asked them if it was okay and they said it was fine as long as we weren't there over 2 hours. There are bathrooms in the restaurant but there is a long stairway to get to the restaurant dining room itself so not wheelchair accessible. There are booths and tables to sit at.

The food here was delicious and an exciting, new find. The menu is widely eclectic with food that spans Chinese, Indian, Nepalese, and Bhutanese cuisine. We tried chicken and vegetable dumplings which were so tasty and came with a really wonderful dipping sauce with just a little kick of spice. I had the chicken datsi, which was just a little cheesy and just a great mix of flavors, while very filling. The others had thali, which is a tray of multiple different small dishes. This was closer to Indian food in its spices. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by Subba and would gladly return here again.

I was slightly concerned with the pictures, as the bao looked on the smaller size, but was pleased to find that the bao was a nice plump size. I went for the steamed bao with braised pork. Tender and flavorful with a dumpling dough that wasn't too heavy or too light. There's five per order so they definitely work as a good lunch for one or a sharable for two or three. The dipping sauce was good too but the bao was so good it didn't even need it.
