For me, China House is it. Placed a take out order - was told it'd be ready in 5-10 minutes. Price was right. Everything was cooked well. It's a somewhat regular spot for me, particularly when I don't know what to have or I'm striking out on coming up with a dinner plan. Umm, how did we not know about this place before? My husband walked in with the bags, and I knew the food was going to be great just by the aroma! This is some of the best food Chinese we had in this area, and we tried it on a whim. My roast pork fried rice was bomb! There's literally nothing else to say about it. The best! I think that I'll be my go-to. My steamed dumplings were pretty good as well. I received a cup of chili oil on the side, which completed them well. I'm excited to try more on the menu! I ordered the general tso's chicken the first time I went, and I loved it so much it's the only thing I've ever gotten since then. Generous portions, actual chicken with good flavor and texture (not just chunks of fried dough drowning in sauce). Definitely plan on takeout or delivery; it's not really a dine in spot. read more

Decent food, strange setup inside, trust me the people working there are doing their best not to get Covid. It's funny to see their setup. There is one tiny door that opens and they set your food out on the counter and close the door fast. Your food comes in a box with a paper plate. This place has THE best Chinese food around, and you can even dine-in. How novel is that? And, you won't break the bank. I am absolutely hooked on their steamed dumplings, and I could probably consume their shrimp with lobster sauce to a state of oblivion. Don't judge a book by its cover. I ordered Chicken broccoli and egg drop soup for delivery. It arrived within 30 minutes! The large chicken broccoli came in a brown sauce and included carrots. Really tasty and the sauce had soy sauce, oil and garlic flavors. It also included rice. The egg drop soup was good and included crunchy noodles. I used to go to another Chinese restaurant across the street. Now I am wondering why I have never tried China house? The food is so good and they make it quick. The food is spicier than other Chinese restaurants. But I like it. We ordered saseme chicken, happy family, wonder soup, streamed dumpling and chicken with garlic sauce. read more

It ain't bad for your classic Americanized takeout. But in a city of so many choices, it's hard to give this anything higher than a 3-star. I have this weird habit of trying the Singapore mein fun from like all of these Chinese take-out places. I'd give it a solid 3/5. They use a thicker noodle than typically, but good flavor and is not too oily. Nothing stands out about it. Double sauteed pork was the same. The flavor is the classic Americanized Chinese food. Great if you are having a craving for it or want some cheap Chinese takeout. ALthough, I'm finding that in Pittsburgh, there's actually a lot of better places for takeout for not much more expnse. read more

For a take-out this spot definitely deserves 5 stars. General Tso is crispy and the flavor is on point. Fried rice is always good. Every time we go, the food's ready in 10-15min. The fried wings are also solid. It's got a five-spice seasoning. Nice and crispy with a ton of flavor. read more

This order is based on delivery (yelp). During the most recent snow storm we had I didn't want to leave the house so I ordered Chinese through yelp. My food arrived within the time slot given to me, and my driver was very friendly and quick. The food was warm, and delicious. I got the sweet and sour chicken, and the sauce came on the side. I enjoy when they do this because I can use the leftover sauce to dip my egg roll in. A few negatives included: no fork or napkins in my delivery order, thankfully I was at home and had some on hand. They also didn't read my special request, in which I requested duck sauce on the side. Thankfully, I had the sweet and sour sauce to hold me over. Overall, I will order from them again! read more

As someone who is constantly on the move between Shadyside and Bloomfield during the work week, I am always looking to find a quick, cheap lunch spot. While flipping through yelp, I came across the China House on Liberty Ave. I was less than a mile away and the reviews were good so I decided to give it a try. First of all, most of the lunch specials are around $5.50 including shrimp dishes and dishes like General Taos's which can sometimes be a little bit more. All of the lunch dishes come with a generous serving of pork fried rice. I ordered the chicken and broccoli directly from the yelp app. The broccoli had great flavor and wasn't over cooked. The chicken, although a little chewy, was comparable to most other Chinese restaurants around. Overall, the portion and quality was substantial for $5.72. I'm at the children's hospital with my son and was craving General Tso's so I decided to give this place a try. I called and placed my order with a very nice lady. My order arrived as requested (extra spicy, hold the broccoli) and it was nice and hot. The fried rice and the egg roll were both great. The General Tso's was good, but not really sweet like I've had pretty much everywhere else I've ever eaten it. It had more of a tangy flavor with a faint sweetness in the background. Perhaps that was because ordered it extra spicy? I don't know, because when I order it that way at other places, I usually see more hot pepper flakes. Anyhow, it wasn't bad and I'm not unhappy, but it was definitely not what I was expecting. Secondly, to reach the minimum $12 purchase to qualify for delivery, I added chicken strips to my order. I figured I'd just eat them tomorrow for dinner over my salad. The "chicken strips" weren't strips at all. They were exactly the same chicken they use for sweet and sour chicken. See photo. Again, it's not a big deal, I'll still carry on as planned with them. Figured I'd mention it because if you try and pass those off as "chicken fingers" to your picky toddler, you may as well plan for the meltdown that will follow. Haha! The delivery driver was very courteous and prompt. If I have another craving for Chinese food, I'll probably try a different place (because I always order General Tso's), but I wouldn't be opposed to ordering from here again if I decided to venture from my usual dish. read more

Typical hole in the wall Chinese food. They use yellow rice for the fried rice, which in my opinion, is the wrong answer and the hallmark of low quality Chinese food. General Tso's was the super sweet red sauce variety. Egg roll was good. Typical sweet & sour chicken. Wonton soup was ok, not much flavor in the broth but the wontons were ok. Service was quick and friendly, prices were average. Overall, I wouldn't make it a destination, but it was edible. read more

Called up to order lo mein and eggrolls for takeout when I was less than 10 minutes away. I walked and and walked out with some yummy grub. The lo mein was very good and flavorful with chicken and shrimp. The only thing I missed was the roasted pork but no biggie. The eggroll was crispy and the filling had the right texture...not mushy. I have been ordering from China House for 12 years. During the closures from the pandemic, this amazing restaurant like so many others had to close. There are so many challenges our local restaurants are facing. Unlike many other Chinese restaurants, China House remained closed until they could ensure that when they reopened they could provide the safest cooking and pick-up environment. Unfortunately, we had to suffer through most of this quarantine without our beloved China House, but they are BACK and deserve the full credit of being the BEST Chinese restaurant in the East End. So, yeah, China House is typical American-Chinese food. Nothing special at all. But they do it the way I expect them to. They're fast, and nice, and the price is right. I've also had them cater some events and they've been very helpful, delivering huge portions of food, on-time and for a reasonable price. I've seen the owner in there feeding her kids Chinese water spinach--real Chinese food. I do kind of wish it was on the menu, but alas I'll just go to How Lee for that. read more
