"I think I need a fortune cookie to redirect the cosmos for me," I tell my husband, after a string of bad days. Maybe that small string of white paper could give me a new outlook. China Taste is a small shop with a couple of tables for dine in. Food was very inexpensive, ready very quickly, and hot. My husband didn't want an order for himself, but was happy to eat my leftovers. read more

China Taste - Chicken with vegetables and fried rice - Chinese Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Food is very good. Wonton soup is the best shrimp egg foo young is great eggrolls are good if they're hot and fresh.

Wanted to try this place since I moved here. Its everything you'd expect from these type of Chinese restaurants. It's of course not the nicest place ever, but hey, food was good. I ordered some friend chicken with fried rice and damn, that was some good fried chicken, wasn't expecting that from Chinese place. My girl had the General Tso Chicken, it tasted like Panda Express Orange chicken tbh, possibly a little better. We also order some fried dumplings that were more like grilled dumplings. I mean, I wasn't expecting a five stars meal, it was what I expected, it was good and reliable. We paid around $35 for that, a little more than what I expected, but there were a few leftovers. Food came out around 15 minutes after ordering, not terrible. read more

China Taste restaurant's menu includes typical Chinese-American foods such as crab rangoon, spring roll, wonton soup, fried rice, chow mein, lo mein, egg foo young, general tso's chicken, moo shu pork, chicken with broccoli, pepper steak with onion, and sweet and sour shrimp. Prices are average. This restaurant seems to offer mostly takeout and delivery. I ordered three entrees for delivery. The employees quickly cooked my foods. At home, I ate the Broccoli with Garlic Sauce, the Hunan Shrimp, and the Kung Pao Shrimp. Some of the sauces had leaked out of the containers, so perhaps the cook could include a little less sauce. All of the ingredients were very fresh. I would not call China Taste my favorite Chinese restaurant, but the foods had good flavors. read more

Store was fine, price was really good but the meat specifically has weird textural issues. General two I so tuff it becomes meat floss. Shrimp so soft, it feels wrong. Beef so weird and chewy it's off putting. Everything else is fine; veggies are tasty and rice is well cooked. It's just the meat and whatever process they used to prep it maybe. read more

Food and staff were very nice and the order was quick. Food was so good I will definitely be returning. Thank you!

Customer service could've been better. Soon as I walked in they welcomed me with "what do you want?" And instantly made me feel like they did something to my food. read more

I was in dire need of Chinese food and decided to give China Taste a try. The place is very small and virtually only take out or delivery. There is some seating although I would not want to eat there. I ordered beef and broccoli and vegetable chow mien. The vegetable chow mein was ok definitely not worth mentioning again. The beef and broccoli I did not like at all, The beef tasted funny. I would not go there again and I could not recommend them to any one else. Since there is so many great chines food places I will try a new place the next time. read more

China Taste - the front of a chinese restaurant - Chinese Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I've been nervous for China Taste as they were closed for almost the entirety of Covid-19. In fact, I believe they closed mid-March and didn't open again until early June. I've been keeping careful tabs of all the restaurants on Ohio Street, so when I saw China Taste was open again I immediately called in a order. Food was ready 10 minutes later and came out piping hot! As this was my wife and my first time, we opted for the most Westernized of dishes--General Tso's chicken and Sesame chicken--to gauge this place against our American-Chinese standards. I'm happy to report that the food tasted great and the portions were generous. The to-go container was heaping and so I ended up saving the egg roll for the day after. Still tasted good after reheating in the microwave. Where the meal exceeded my expectations was in the fried rice which had pieces of actual roast pork (char siu - 叉燒). This style of roast pork is very popular in the regions around Hong Kong where I spent two years working during college. Every other fried rice I've had in the US is typically ham so I really appreciated the flavors of my home-away-from-home. Would love to come back and try more of the menu soon! read more

Veeeery good! First time I've had it in about 7 years and now it seams to be even better than before. Ordered on grubhub for lunch at work and it arrived in about 40 minutes. I ordered the sesame chicken with white rice and a side of fried dumplings with a shrimp egg roll. The sesame chicken was excellent. Was still crispy and had a crunch when you bbit it even though it was doused in the savory sauce. White rice was good and tasted fresh I mean you can't really mess up rice. The MVP was the dumplings omg. They were huge to start, perfectly seasoned, not sure what the dipping sauce was but it went really well with the pork. I sliced one in half and I could see the actual seasonings (green onions?) that they put into the pork so I knew they were not some pre-made freezer meat. Only drawback was the shrimp egg roll that didn't taste too fresh and seamed to have bacon bits it it lol. Oh and they never sent my 10 fortune cookies I ordered (I'm addicted to them) read more

I need to give propers to this little local hole-the-wall. When I moved here 7 years ago, it wasn't that good; but post-pandemic, they have figured some things out. They are rocking it. Hot, fast, tasty -- just what you want from an American Chinese food joint. I get the Buddhist Delight and Spring Rolls and my hubs gets the moo goo gai pan, chicken lo main, and won ton soup. Everything is fresh and generously portioned. Staff is efficient but friendly. I would rank most of their takeout 5 stars. Really it's a 4.25/4.5 restaurant; it's not a place you want to eat in, the decor is worn, and the spring rolls can be overly greasy (though still delicious). But for a takeout spot it hits the spot. Please don't change, except figuring out how to keep the spring rolls from being saturated read more

We ordered takeout from China Taste for the first time over the weekend. We ordered crab Rangoon, sweet and sour chicken, hot and sour soup, and house special Lo mein. Everything arrived still hot (we ordered delivery) and the food was delicious. They also supplied us with lots of napkins, Utensils, and sauces. I was surprised to see some of the lower star ratings. I guess this place has recently stepped their game up. We will definitely order takeout from here again, especially since we live fairly close. read more

Ordered from them for the first time. Not super friendly (3 stars), but, at least they said "thank you - come again" (3.5 stars for this). Food was better than I expected (I'd like to give them 3.75 stars but I can't. I've only had it once, but I'm going to go back (so it couldn't be bad). I can't give 3.5 stars overall so I'm giving 4 since 3 is too low. read more

The best Chinese food in the North Side neighborhood in my opinion. Very fast service and friendly staff. The food is delicious and very filling. Would highly recommend the sesame shrimp and the crab rangoons. read more

This place is terrible. I ordered fried rice with chicken and sweet and sour shrimp. I received yellow rice, definitely not fried, and the only other ingredient in the rice was chunks of raw white onion. The sweet and sour shrimp came as overly battered and barely any shrimp compared to amount of breading. They served it with a side of duck sauce. It wasn't a composed dish and actually looked more like donuts when it arrived and I was super confused. Definitely will not make the mistake of ordering from here again. read more

I am taking away a star because they don't deliver. If China Taste delivered I could easily see myself eating from here weekly. This is a hole in the wall in a seedy neighborhood but I just can't get enough. The Chinese food is some of the best I've had. Typically get the Hunan Shrimp or Schezwan shrimp with a side of pork fried rice. The shrimp are big and taste fresh not frozen . large and cooked perfectly and the veggies are always crisp and not soggy and over done. Also we've had the sweet and sour chicken and General Tso's chicken. Although the restaurant is tiny and a little run down the food is very good. All the entrees I've ever had were served pipping hot. The restaurant is really nothing pretty and there are a total of 3 tables. The restaurant is tiny. If you're passing through the Northside check this place out. read more

I work on the North Side and went for a walk to find something new for lunch. I am quickly growing tired of Eco Bistro directly downstairs from my office at Allegheny Center. At any rate, came across this place at the corner of Ohio and the onramp to 279. The lunch special was inexpensive and grabbed a soda for about $6 in all. I had the Kung Pao Chicken and it was prepared to order. Tasty, cheap, fast. I ate inside - there are only a handful of tables in this place and it's decently clean. read more

Ordered for a group of four. Two got kinda sick and two really sick. Called and china taste would take absolutely no responsibility, "it must have been something else" was their response. It was not, and if you order there say a little prayer before you eat at the least! read more

I love this little hole in the wall! I was cautious as first due to their appearance, but when I tried their food I immediately loved it. It's high quality chinese food for a low price. Their service is quick and they cook the food to order. I highly recommend! read more

Best Chinese in north side! Super quick and delicious with friendly service. A great spot for takeout.

The food was pretty flavorless if you ask me. Also who puts cabbage in low mein? Fast service but don't know if I will be returning.

Although I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food, I'll admit that China Taste is serving up some very yummy Chinese food on the North Side. Although the storefront is a bit drab, don't let that deter you from stopping in and picking up some food. On a recent rainy Saturday afternoon, my boyfriend and I made our way over to grab some food. We placed our order., paid and returned about 10 minutes later to pick up the grub. I was in the mood for wonton soup and wasn't disappointed. Delicious, hot broth with a plentiful amount of wontons was promptly devoured. My boyfriend ordered two different beef and vegetable entrees, which were accompanied by white rice. I tasted some of his meal and agreed with him that it was very, very tasty. China Taste was so good that we ended up stopping back later in the evening after we hit up the casino. I again ordered the wonton soup (although this time a whole quart). He ordered a quart of the chicken and broccoli. Again, super yummy. Yep - the place is a whole in the wall, but the employees (the same were there both times) seemed pleasant. Plus, you cannot beat the price for what you get. It's redic cheap. Stop in the next time you're in or near the North Side area. read more

It's hard to find a GOOD Chinese place. This is a GOOD Chinese place! The prices are awesome and the food is spectacular! The crab rangoon are under $5 and will leave you completely full! This place is great for satisfying that late night Chinese food craving! read more

Got take out from this place on the weekend. Ordered kung pao chicken, steamed dumplings, and pork egg rolls. I was really hungry so it hit the spot, but there wasn't that many chicken pieces in my kung pao chicken - a lot of peanuts (as expected) and a whole lot of celery and carrots (aka filler). So I was a bit disappointed in that. The steam dumplings were good, especially when fresh and hot. The egg roll was tasty as well - I didn't find it too oily. Very affordable and a generous portion - I had the leftovers the next day. read more

This place is great! Appears to be family owned and operated. They work really hard making good Chinese food really fast. I've read a few negative reviews and having ordered it for a year now I can say it's always been good. I keep coming back. read more

The Vegetable lo mein and the dumplings are delicious and this place is a quick and easy pick up for anyone who's hankering for some good Chinese food to-go on the Northside! If you payed for food with your debit card, check your debit card transactions with them. They charge you whats on your receipt, then they go back and adjust it to a higher amount! Great place for reasonable take out. Lovely family who own the business. We have been dining here for several years. Get the shrimp dishes. My wife loves the shrimp and Chinese vegetables. The north side gets a bad rap and the area around this place can be scary to out of towners. Don't worry. read more

Piping hot food and delicious. Excellent price points. This place greatly exceeds expectations.

This place has the best beef lo mien I have tasted in Pittsburgh. They cook to order so your food is fresh and isn't sitting out under a heat lamp. My friend says the hot and sour soup here is the best she's tasted as well. I like their pork egg roll but it is pretty different from others. It is mainly vegetable (Cabbage I believe) and pork. Their egg drop soup is pretty decent. I can't say I am impressed with their other dishes. I've had curry chicken, shrimp fried rice, chicken soup, shrimp egg roll. They were definitely edible just no where near as flavorful as the beef lo mien. The chicken soup was horrible. It was bland and the noodles were lo mien noodles. Fried rice were ok but I've had much much better at other places. They have a huge menu though so it'll take some time to go through them. The obvious bad thing about this place is it is in a ghetto neighborhood. It is probably not worth making a trip out there but if you're in the neighborhood, I'd say give it a try. They're cheap and they give you tons of food. It is cook to order so wait time might be a little long. You can call in and order as well. Not everything on the menu is the best but they have a huge menu to choose from. read more

Followed the advice of my fellow yelpers, gave this place a shot, and I was not disappointed. My fiancé and I moved to the area a little less then two years ago and up until now, we have been unsuccessful in finding our neighborhood go-to spot when it comes to Chinese. This is it! It's inexpensive and tasty. Its not overly salty like some Chinese take out tends to be. read more

I think the food was really, really, really good for the price. The appetizer we got, boiled dumplings, were especially yummy. The General Tso's chicken wasn't the best I've ever had but certainly wasn't bad at all. The egg roll was really good too. My mom picked up the food and she said it was kind of divey inside but that doesn't really matter to me. The food was great and it was quick, and cheap. read more

If you're looking for good Chinese food at relatively inexpensive prices then China Taste is it. Large portions, fantastic steamed (and fried) dumplings, great combo selections all around a solid take-out place. Only downside is they DO NOT deliver. Other than that it is well worth it whenever you have the hankering for some Asian cuisine and a Netflix type of night. read more

Never will order here again . Customer service awful. Food was cold. Chicken chow mein was about 90% onions/cabbage. Very disappointed. FYI: does not come with noodles. read more

We've ordered take-out from this restaurant many times and have generally been satisfied. However, our most recent order was so bad, that neither of us could take more than a few bites. My chicken "fried" rice not only lacked flavor (it was only yellow-colored rice with no peas, carrots, sprouts, egg, etc), but the chicken was undercooked and rubbery. The pork rolls were also undercooked and unpleasant; they were quite doughy and had very little filling. I don't plan to go back to China Taste anytime soon. read more

I really enjoy China Taste, and if they delivered I'd give them 5 stars. They're quick, and a perfect spot for when you're craving American Chinese food. It's nothing fancy, and I wouldn't eat in store but it makes for a great take-out place. read more

This place is always great and the best American-Chinese in Pittsburgh. However, although there is a small seating area, it's best for take out. The people that work there are very nice and it seems to be a family owned business. Also, as customers can see into the kitchen, it is very clean. Love this place. read more

This is what I look for in a take-out place. Good food, large portions, fair prices. As already stated, they don't deliver. Service was fast though, and I will definitely go back. read more

I've had takeout food from here twice. The first time, I ordered beef with broccoli, and I was pretty turned off by the amount of oil that was pooled in the bottom of the container. The second, I ordered beef fried rice and a couple of egg rolls. The beef fried rice had nothing but rice, beef, and onions; I've never had fried rice that didn't include at least peas and carrots, and some places also include fried egg. None of that was in there, so it was pretty much tasteless. The egg rolls had very little flavor as well and were pretty dry. I gave the place a second chance because I really wanted Chinese for lunch, and it's the only Chinese restaurant on the North Side. After this, I'll satisfy my craving with one of the restaurants downtown. read more
