The high-risk violations include the Allegheny County Health Department inspector observing employees eating on a prep table and saw other "having barehand contact with ready to eat foods." Small shrimps wrapped in huge chunky batter and some kind of sauce that does not resemble any general Tao I have ever eaten. Fried rice is nothing but bland rice. that's not how we get down in Philly and I'm sure Pittsburgh can do it better. Win tonight soup was awful also. I don't how it's possible that take out won ton soup was bad, but it was.. This meal was tough to get down, will not be back. I've never had a issue with my food from Sichuan Palace in Penn Hills until June of 2025 I ordered Shrimp Fried rice, there was a piece of egg shell and a piece of the shell from the shrimp in it. I didn't report it because in all of the years that I've ordered from them there hasn't been an issue. So I ordered Shrimp with Garlic Sauce July 26, 2025 and there was some type of globe of I don't know what it was. I called the restaurant and spoke to a Billy and I also called Grub hub to submit my complaint. I won't be ordering from them again. read more

We are new to the area and have been exploring different Asian restaurants in Pittsburgh. We saw this little "hole in the wall" place while at PennDOT. We were hungry, so we took a chance. The food was amazing! Everything from the appetizers to the main course appeared homemade and was served piping hot of vintage Pyrex restaurant ware. It was quiet and we did not feel rushed at all. We spent more time enjoying the food and the ambiance than other places we've visited. The owners were very accommodating, and kind. There was sooooo much food! Price was very reasonable considering portion sizes. We were there during lunch hours (11am-3pm). There was no sign of skimping on ingredients. We got our meals to go. Son got chicken & broccoli, but ran off before I could get a photo of it. Order was ready quickly and hot when it got home. I got their shrimp fried rice for $8.50. I usually get the fried rice or lo mein because this place never skimps on the shrimp. The serving is HUGE. I took two photos of the same shrimp fried rice so you can see how much you get. The first one is the rice in its to-go container, but the second one is the same to-go container next to the plate that has almost half of the rice on it. You can see how much was in the container - A LOT! It was a little dryer than it usually is, but was fine with the duck sauce I always bathe it in. I love duck sauce, what can I say? The reason I bumped it down a star is because they shorted me the egg roll I'd ordered. I chose to dine in-what a mistake. When my food came a swarm of gnats also arrived. I couldn't even eat because I was constantly swatting flies. Had to get it boxed to go. The food taste and quality were mediocre at best. I was the only person dining in and was near the kitchen entrance. I have to think the kitchen was also full of gnats. Yuk! read more

The woman who usually waits on us was there & things usually turn out the best with her!! I feel like we are friends!! Meal specs: As usual... I ordered the sesame chicken because I like the chicken that comes with that meal better than the chicken that comes with the General Tso's chicken meal!! It's less breading & better chicken!! When I visit my wife's family, we often order Chinese food from here both because it's good and it's close. My dish was Sichuan Beef, but it was the other option on the menu. I liked the flavor, and the julienned onion and peppers with it were perfectly cooked, just like the beef was. The white rice was nice with it. Honestly just what I expected. I would really love to see a better quality of accompanying sauces. I'm a sucker for good Hot Mustard. It's not here. It's very fast and easy to order on the phone. We've never eaten inside. I would believe their take out business must be 10X their indoor service. We also got the chow mein with chicken for my litte kiddos and they gave it two thumbs up, so that's a win....i enjoyed the flavor and mouthfeel of the noodles in that dish and everything in it complemented it well. We brought our leftovers back home with us on the 8 hour drive and we're happy to eat them the next evening after that long drive back to Chicago. Will be back for more in the summer. read more

The sauce is sweet, savory, and just about the right consistency. Tofu is cooked well and goes along deliciously with the sauce. Eggplant taste is also on-point and blends deliciously with the overall entree. Docking minor points because the texture of the eggplant was a little too mushy but overall much better than comparable dishes in the area. Value: 5/5 At $10 this dish is a superb value. We stopped here while traveling through the area recently. In terms of take-out "packaging" for eating out it was probably one of the best we have encountered. We had Spring rolls, which were very good and hot when we received our food. We also had General Tso's and vegetable fried rice. I thought the General Tso's was a bit sweeter than I prefer and had very few broccoli pieces which for me, was disappointing. The vegetable fried rice was fine with the vegetables cooked just right for our taste. Other than being a bit further out of our route than expected, we will likely stop here again when traveling through the area. read more

Sichuan Palace Chinese Restaurant Penn Hills meals. On 8.25.20, I bought two Shrimp Lo Mein lunch meals at $7.50 each. It took less than twenty minutes from the time I ordered the meals by phone until I was called by the store's cashier that the meals were ready. Each meal was in a non-microwaveable white container. I did not accept from the cashier what I believed were two uncleaned white plastic folks and the white paper napkins which were handled by her ungloved hands. The temperature of the food was hot. There were 13 deveined but small (about 1.0") shrimp, ample serving of noodles and vegetables. The well-seasoned meals were very delicious and I am looking forward to buying more meals from them. read more

I love this chinese spot. It's one of my favs in the whole pittsburgh area. Everything I've tried here has great taste and it's not too greasy. I've tried the General Tso's, Buddhist delight which is al veggies in a white sauce and their beef and broccoli. Of course i can't forget the combination fried rice. It has pork, chicken, and shrimp not to mention the perfect combination of fried rice with all the great flavor. I have never had a problem with their dishes. Everything is served hot and fresh and never taste bad. I never have stomach issues either like some other restaurants. The inside decorations are a little outdated and could use some freshening up but it doesn't take away from the quality of the food and the great service. The place is almost never occupied. I see a few couples there every now and then but most of the guest order take out. Try whatever you like here I'm sure you won't be disappointed!! read more

Went in to eat lunch and service wasn't great, atmosphere strange (very quiet, no music - could hear the coupe across the restaurant complaining about their food). Seems most of their business was takeout. The food we got was on par for takeout I guess, but by the end I felt so overloaded with salty and sugary sauce on everything. After visiting Penn Dot myself and the other half were in need of sustenance and this was the closest. Walking in we were greeted by a hostess who showed us a booth right away. Our server was there within seconds and took our drink orders. On his return he also brought what looked like fried pieces of the stuff egg rolls are wrapped in. Ya I know, not the best description but I'm really not big on Chinese food. Also it must be said that if you order a soda you will pay by the can because they don't have fountain drinks. Now onto the food. I ordered sesame chicken. I was a bit apprehensive because I don't normally like chicken that has a breading and then is tossed in a sauce. The chicken itself was still crispy and tasted fresh. My only real complaint is that I found it lacking in sesame flavor. The sauce it was tossed in was very similar to the general tso the other half had. Mine just has sesame seeds thrown on top. I think my boy might have gotten the best dish. I often have larger orders and they are consistently accurate and when I call to make a note about my order, they are friendly and helpful. The food here is always well prepared and very good. The "Amazing Chicken" (which you can get as a lunch special Mon-Sat) actually lives up to its name. It's similar in concept to General Tso's but has thinner, smaller pieces of chicken with much less batter than is usual for a Tso's-type dish. Thus the ratio of chicken to batter is awesome. I also enjoy their Kung Pao, string bean, and broccoli dishes. Their egg rolls and spring rolls are wonderfully fresh and crispy in-house (they soften a little in the bag if you carry out). So good. Staff is very friendly. We dined in last Friday 4/14/17 & I got the General Tso tofu. This is the only place I've been to in the PH/Monroeville/Verona area that does this well. The outside is very crisp & the inside it tofu so its on the softer side. So many other places make it so soggy and the outside isnt crisp at all. This is by far have the best.
