I've been a happy customer for years, the fresh ingredients are prepared well, in the traditional manner, quickly, with generous portions, at a reasonable price. As for appearance, restaurant ambience, and location, all of the mom and pop establishments have suffered to come back after Covid. I'm just happy that they're still here. The one thing that I think they could do to better the business is to be able to order and pay for your food online, right now you have to call the restaurant to order and you can only pay at the counter. Today at 3:30 I decided to get my Chinese food and I came across Chan an restaurant. And when I got there I could barely hear the lady that was taking my order. And she was talking quite fast. I ordered noodles and shrimp fried rice but when I got my food the bottom of my bag was wet didn't like that every much. I don't write reviews often, but this customer service is actually the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life. My girlfriend places an order with a modification (1wonton soup/1 egg roll). They read it back to each other. We go pick up the order only to realize when we got to the car that she gave us an extra wonton soup with no egg roll. When I brought this to their attention they kept saying that not what we said & we have to pay extra for an egg roll. I ask for the receipt for the order and I couldn't even get a word in because she kept shaking her head and cutting me off. There so many better places to get your food from. Our wrong order wasn't even worth the money. You can't get our order wrong, not do anything to fix it & also have below average food. Pick a struggle. read more

My family has been getting takeout from here for years and have never been disappointed. Everyone looks forward to Chinese food night. This is by far the best Chinese place I have been to in Pittsburgh. Lots of options and the food is made fresh in front of you. I have some food sensitivities and usually get very bloated and sick feeling after eating most Chinese food, but I do not get sick from here. This is also a very convienent location with ample free parking. During normal times, you can eat inside or order to go. They have some decent lunch and dinner deals. I was particularly impressed with their current COVID19 precautions as they have the entire order area plexi-glassed off and even made a contraption with a plexi-glass doggy door type thing to give the food to people while keeping both sides protected. Also, all employees were wearing masks and customers are required to wear masks. The one downside here is that most of the employees don't have the best English skills which has led to some difficulty ordering or minor mix-ups, but they have good customer service and will correct anything mixed up. I went to the restaurant and was very excited for my General Tso's that did not taste good at all. And the rice tasted old. I did let the staff know and they did not seem to care in helping. My daughter loves this place. It's your typical greasy spoon Chinese takeout joint. Located in a strip mall, it's very convenient to access and parking is plenty. Our regular order consists of lo-mein and chicken wings. IMHO, they pass...they're tasty but by no means the best in the city. There are tables here if you choose to dine in. They pack the aluminum to-go tray pretty heavily to ensure a healthy trip to the bathroom a few hours later. The storefront itself has a small amount of seating. Good for a hangover; not so good for a client lunch. Still probably better than any quick options at the Dirty Bird next door. This restaurant is the middle of the shopping center with the Giant Eagle in the South Side. Let me tell you, the enviroment is not a plus. It's kind of like a fast food restaraunt atmosphere and it's not in the best area of town. I have eaten General Tso's chicken all over this country and it is the very best General Tso's EVER! I order it extra spicy and it's amazing. I can't speak for the other food there, other than the egg rolls, rice and hot and sour soup are good too. I give Chan An 5 stars because of its homeliness, convenience and good tasting food. Their food really hit the spot after a hard work out. We have tried a few things on their menu, some are not as good as others. I highly recommend any of the chow mei fun items. Beef with broccoli is great. Food is very affordable. i've been ordering take out for over 20 yrs at chan an. they are always clean/friendly/fast/delicious food. wendy is always very helpful and she has been there the whole time i've been ordering. i used to work in the south side area for many years and would order almost weekly. now when i drive by the area i always call and order 2-3 meals so i have some for a few days. they always remember to give you a fortune cookie! i'm so glad they have survived all this covid junk when so many other places haven't. that alone should show you their quality! read more
