I rate the samosa (potatoes and peas) as 4.5 stars, the veg pakora (fritters) as 4.5 stars, the paneer pakora (cheese) as 3.5 stars, and the mirch pakora (huge banana pepper stuffed with potatoes and herbs) as 3.5 stars. Non-Vegetarian Platter - 4 stars - This appetizer was a sample of three breaded and fried non-vegetarian proteins. I rate the lamb samosa as 4 stars, the chicken pakora as 4 stars, and the shrimp pakora as 4 stars. Shahi Navratan Korma - 4.5 stars - This entree contained mixed vegetables, nuts, and a spicy sauce. This is our favorite place for Indian food in all of the greater Pittsburgh area. The food is always amazing. They are extremely efficient despite being a bit short staffed. (We got fresh hot food faster here than most over staffed restaurants.). I love the chi there but in truth I can't single out any specific food I love because it is ALL incredible. The tandoori chicken is a dish amazing; it's typically not a dish I order but when we come here, I love theirs and order it. The tandoori chicken is not overly spiced (heat) but perfectly marinated and cooked. But again, I have never had anything I didn't like from Spice Affair. Also desert, their Galub and rice puddings both are outstanding! It's well worth a drive if you live a bit further away. As I said occasionally you notice only one server but he never stops moving and makes sure you are happy with your food. Really surprised how good this place was! We had always ordered from People's Indian so we have high standards for Indian food in Pittsburgh. We picked up a feast that had our entire family stuffed and everything was under $100. Amazing value!! Dishes were authentic. Just be careful with the spice level. We got level 7/10 for a couple of dishes and they were nearly inedible. I'm not used to butter chicken being red like tikka masala but it was delicious. I'm a regular at this place, so surprised I haven't written a review yet. It's a great gathering spot with friends or family. I find myself there probably once a month. The proprietors are awesome. Always treat us like family. And they are a great cast of characters. Add to that, I know they do a ton to charitably support their local community. As far as the food goes, it is the best Indian food in Pittsburgh. And I've tried most of them. The cherry on top is BYOB. So call up your friends, have them all bring beer or wine, and sit out on their (heated) deck, eat, drink and be merry. I recommend just about all of it, but in a big group we usually get a mixed grill, some naan (which theirs is really the best around IMHO), bhel poori, Baignan bhartha (eggplant), any of the lamb dishes, and a curry (again all are good). Pro tip: one of the reasons I love this place is that it gets legit spicy. I grew up with chili in my veins. But even for me, I top out at around an 8 or 9 (and that's after they know I like it spicy). So don't be a hero and order a 10. Or if you do, take a selfie after and post in your next review. My wife who's a big chicken saag fan proclaimed theirs the best she's had. All in all a great selection with a lot of variety. Staff was so friendly and invited me to sit at the bar while I waited. Tasted great. The first time was exceptional. Became my 2nd favourite Indian restaurant right away. Since then the service has gotten slower and we feel almost unwelcome despite being low-maintenance customers who tip well. The last time we were here the food was as good as ever and the chai was exceptional. I was also never offered a refill on my water and the server wasn't around to ask. We waited 20 minutes for the check despite being one of two tables dining in. I'd have assumed they were busy with -something-... if the manager? owner? hadn't been sitting at the bar chatting with a couple cops. (The cops were complaining that at another restaurant their food always took 15 minutes to be prepared and they didn't "have time for that". I guess that's why they always eat here. They get prioritized above everyone else.) I am not sure I'll give them another try. I can forgive slow service once in a while, but I find it harder to forgive treating some customers so much better that others are neglected, just because they carry a badge. read more

We came here on a Friday night and got seated right away. It was very busy so we didn't order until 15-20 minutes of waiting. Let me tell you though, that wait was SO worth it. One of our friends comes here often and says that this is the best Indian restaurant in Pittsburgh! You get these fried pita chips with 3 different dippings as a free appetizer.The butter chicken is AMAZING! Slightly sweet yet delicious. The Lamb Vindaloo is REALLY hot. My partner and I ordered the chicken saag and the lamb rogan Josh. We got spice levels 6 and 5 respectively and they were plenty spicy!! We had to chug water and keep tissues on standby for our runny noses. Each dish came with generous portions of meat and rice, and the amount of food we got was plenty to last us two meals. The garlic naan could have been more garlicky and the mango shake was refreshing, tasty, and not too artificial/sugary tasting (though nothing special enough to write home about). They are offering a new lunch special that was a fantastic deal! $15 lunch deal that gave us so much food! Naan, samosas & multiple different side dishes. My favorite was the goat .. they also offer an all vegetarian lunch option too! Everything was so good and they even gave dessert "rice pudding" highly recommend coming in to try this lunch special. Stopped here later in the evening for dinner midweek on our way back from the Shadyside area of town. There weee a few people inside eating and a few finishing up on the outside patio as well. My husband didn't know what to order for dinner so he asked the server to surprise him. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala which is my staple at every Indian restaurant. We were given a basket of fried chips (maybe wontons?) with 3 sauces which really hit the spot. Our appetizer arrived quickly and it was good. There was definitely some heat to a few things which caused me to avoid trying too much. Hubby ended up getting a fish dish with a coconut sauce that was great. My chicken tikka masala was good but not as flavorful as I am used to. The naan basket was to die for!! I could have made a meal just out of that. When comes to Indian fare, Spice Affair fits the bill for me. I have had a variety of different dishes and all were quite delicious. In the beginning, the pita type chips that are served with the three sauces: a hot salsa like dip, a heavy dark sweet sauce and a green minty dip. The overall flavors of their curry is very good and probably one of the better ones I have been to in Pittsburgh. This place is absolutely amazing!! I used to live over in England and that is where I started my love for Indian food. When I moved back to Pittsburgh, I needed to find a place that was comparable, or even better! Luckily, I found this place! I've been here twice now and I have yet to be disappointed. I've ordered the mango chicken and that dish is so flavorful and delicious! When you order food there, they'll have you rate how spicy you'd like your food from 1-10! I usually get a 3 or 4 because I like a little bit of spice, but even the 4 had my mouth on fire! My dad (who is spice tolerant) gets the 6 and thinks he couldn't go much higher. The service is great! Got here on a Friday night around 6 and were the only people there, but by the time we left around 7.45 each and every table was filled!! However, I've now been to Spice Affair twice, and both times were so good that I feel compelled to write a review. On our latest visit, we started with the samosa chaat and the naan bread basket. The samosa was just ok for me, but the bread was incredible. Light, airy and full of flavor. We got various assorted flavors of bread, but my favorite was the garlic. For the main course, we shared the butter chicken and the lamb kebab. We ordered the vindaloo sauce to go with the lamb, which was an excellent choice. The lamb comes in a sausage form and has an assertive flavor which was balanced very well with the sauce. We ordered spice levels of both 4 and 5, which are perfect for us. This was my first visit: the Sunday brunch of March 24, 2024 and it will not be my last. It was excellent! The restaurant is attractive, large, and comfortable. There was a small salad bar, a broccoli and mushroom dish, pakora, chicken tikka masala, egg curry, goat, the best and most moist and flavorful chicken tandoori I have had in a long time: thighs and drumsticks, rice pudding, and a number of other dishes. A server brought freshly baked naan to the table. The only thing I would have liked that was missing was a cauliflower dish. The price is a reasonable $14.99 and there are punchcards that provide the bearer with a free lunch after purchasing five. There is a lunch buffet Tuesdays through Saturdays as well and the restaurant opens at 11:30. It is closed on Mondays. I only wish I could bring the restaurant closer to my home in Washington County! read more
