Congrats on being my 100th review on Yelp! This place is a really popular place for DoorDash orders as I do part-time work while being a college student. I will just say that since I have stopped here numerous times prior due to being a Dasher, I had to try it as well. Currently, I am trying chicken again after not eating it for 10-11 years due to a diet change for some reasons that I won't go into. I was only craving comfort foods and wanted Chinese. I ordered the Orange Chicken which comes with white rice and it comes with actual orange peels in the sauce which is how you know it's a true orange chicken dish. I was also surprised that there are 0 reviews about their orange chicken so here you go! The only thing I will warn you about, well maybe 2 things. 1. They are a family owned restaurant and the food is made to order so it does take some time especially when they are backed up on orders. Be patient! 2. Parking. They share a lot with a pizza shop and I usually park far so I can just pull up and not have to worry about parking at an angle and backing up, the annoyance. I wish parking was better but at least there is parking unlike other places. Did I mention that they are family owned!? That should be the bonus to this place as you know that they work hard to get orders out and that's why you must be patient! It is worth the wait! Also, there is 1 table inside but I never really see anyone eat there besides this older gentleman that was there that ordered soup and something else (it looks so familiar but I can't think of the name). The price is beyond reasonable so don't hesitate when ordering. It's best to order on their actual website for a pickup order instead of ordering it via Yelp. I noticed a $3 difference. read more

Delicious and affordable for the area. You can share most of the regular portions (we suggest traditional family style) or you can get one of their combos and it's perfect for one! They're very accommodating with customizations and special requests. We love getting an extra sauce or two to make our own meals with too. Definitely not really a dining in place but we love the family feeling when we go pick up food there. It always smells delicious in there! read more

People complaining probably went on a bad night or don't realize this is literally a small family run business making everything themselves. This is strictly a take out and delivery Chinese restaurant. There's no dining in the restaurant. I ordered dinner here and decided to try the General Tso chicken since it was favorably mentioned in other reviews. The menu is pretty standard Chinese fare with a few Thai dishes. I ordered in person instead of calling in the order. The lady at the counter was friendly. The food came out in about 10 minutes as she had stated it would. They give you a large serving which was really enough for two people. This dish, which I don't think I've had before, consisted of deep fried pieces of breaded chicken that are soaked in a sauce, which was supposed to be spicy but to my tastes was more sweet than spicy. I'm not fond of sweet main courses so probably would try something different. It came with steamed rice, and thankfully they didn't give me an over generous quantity of the rice. This is a decent place if you're in the neighborhood and want Chinese take out. The price was about standard--$10.50 for the General Tso chicken. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch break with a friend and the service and food was wonderful. I ordered a beef entree and had mentioned I was allergic to chicken just in case and I believe the owner/cook came out and informed me that they're beef was cooked in chicken stock so he ended up making me a special sauce and beef entree. Which took a little longer but was definitely worth it and such a gracious offer. The staff was all incredibly nice and helpful will definitely go back if I'm in that part of town. read more

Worst wonton soup I ever had. I didn't even think it was possible to mess up wonton soup. To illustrate, imagine dunking a plastic container in a toilet bowl, adding a pinch of salt, and two wontons (one without filling). No scallions. No flavor. Just bland yellow water and soggy falling apart wontons. I was so mad as I ate it, expecting it to get better somehow with each spoonful. It reminded me of hospital food or jail food or something, it was a sad experience. The Hunan shrimp was blah too. There was, I believe, four shrimp in the dish. And sauce was kinda watery. The only good thing about this place was the vegetables weren't rotten, but one would expect that anyway. I wouldn't recommend eating here. read more

Note #1: Castle Place Chinese Cuisine sits in the small Castle Place shopping plaza. It's next-door neighbor is Nick's Pizza. Hence, the name. Note #2: They also offer a small selection of Thai entrees. Another trip out to this end of Mount Lebanon resulted in a take-home meal from this tiny, scantily-decorated, almost-nowhere-to-sit Chinese restaurant, and the results were fairly middling. A obligatory helping of fried dumplings, that appetizer Kay and I cannot get enough of, began this insurance seminar of a dinner. They were doughy, somewhat stingy in terms of pork filling, and overall, were unexciting. I came close to ordering Thai, but decided against it since I wasn't eating at a Thai restaurant, so I randomly went with an item called Capital Chicken. A rank-and-file dish centered around battered, fried chicken breast strips, a slew of vegetables and a "brown" sauce "complimented it, leaving my palate bored. This is why I'm tiring of Chinese or at least the "Americanized" variety: Everything I seem to order of late contains a protein, a sauce, and some vegetables in some sort of mildly-differing configuration. No matter how exotic it sounds, it turns out to be something I've had before under a different name. I want something new in my Chinese excursions. Castle Place doesn't have it. Perhaps I should have just stuck with General Tso's. It may not be authentic (who cares?), but I'll be damned if it isn't universally good no matter where I have it. That's what I get for trying to be adventurous: Capital Chicken. P.S. After moving to a new neighborhood, we started looking for a new Chinese take out place. We tried Castle Place, and it was good. The delivery is always pretty quick, and the food is always decent. The crab rangoons are sweeter, and ok. My hubby loves the General Tso's, I am still looking for something that is consistently good that I like. Hidden gem in Mt.Lebanon and Castle Shannon. My favorite part about it is that its been family-owned for over 15+ years and the food has always tasted homemade and fresh, which is rare in this modern world of restaurant chains (Sesame Inn counts as a chain!). The food is very reasonably priced (everything is under $15) and the serving sizes are super generous. Food is tasty, never bland. Even with the Asian restaurants competing in the area, I keep coming back! The only downside is that it is take-out and delivery only, but there is a table in there if you really want to sit down and eat! Recommended choice: Any of the beef or shrimp dishes and the egg rolls. Personal favorite: sweet and sour shrimp. read more

I called and requested a replacement which they did eventually bring at their convenience. It was ok but not notable. They didn't want the hard rocks chicken back. Would I order again? Probably not. Castle Place is your standard take-out-only Chinese restaurant. The location is a little bit run down, and I expected the food to be pretty bad, but my wife and I were sick of Sesame Inn and decided to try something new. Overall the food is hit or miss--some nights are better than others, probably depending on which member of the family that owns the place is cooking--but when it's good it's really very good.
