Down here in Washington theres not really any good sushi places, we didn't wanna travel all the way up to Robinson AND we wanted to do take out. Sesame Inn was a perfect option for us. Called it in and stated it would be ready in 20 mins. Which was perfect because that'd be the amount of time it'd take me to get there. Got food home and everything was as ordered. It's unfortunate how the quality has dropped since it became Sesame Gourmet. Grabbed take out the other day for lunch and I'm disappointed to say the least. I had been to the Mt Lebanon location, but not this one and was always happy with my food. We went for lunch, and were easily seated and given our drinks. They have a nice lunch menu and the combo plate comes with soup, or egg roll, rice and your meal. I settled on wonton soup and amazing chicken with fried rice. My mother, who has to eat a gluten free diet, was struggling to find something she could eat, but our server was very patient and helpful. My soup arrived and looked great and tasted even better. The amazing chicken was fried chicken in a spicy sauce and was very good. The fried rice was nothing special. What I was amazed with was the size of the lunch portion. 2 of us could easily have split the meal. What was really annoying was that they were doing some work up near the register and were pounding and pounding, so it was hard to hear each other. read more

Atmosphere - Very nice. It has been ages since I last dined at this location. The restaurant is fairly small, but has a nice atmosphere. There is a combination of booths and tables. Service - Very Good. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Food - Very Good. The menu huge and the variety amazing. We were there for lunch and ordered off the luncheon menu. I ordered the Lemon Chicken. It came with the option of a few sides. I chose the Hot & Sour Soup. I also chose fried rice. The portion size is huge and two could easily share it for lunch. The chicken was pounded nearly paper thin as was the deep fried breading. The chicken is cut into long strips. Because it was so thin, the ends of the strips were a little too crunchy. The lemon sauce was very good. The fried rice was just OK. Not a lot of flavor. The Hot & Sour Soup was delicious. Overall Value - Very Good. The Sesame Inn is a small chain in the Pittsburgh area and they are always a good option for Chinese food. read more

I haven't had Sesame Inn since long before the pandemic, but I've been having a hankering for good Chinese food and decided to meet up with 3 other family members here for lunch on Saturday. The complimentary tea with your meal is a nice touch. Service was fast, I believe our server's name was David. The other three people in my party all had general tso's chicken and I had the orange shrimp; everything was better than we remembered! Their fried rice has always been a personal favorite of mine because of the large chunks of egg. I appreciated the fact that menu's lunch prices also applied to weekend lunch- most places do not follow similar suit. Lunch prices are more than reasonable for the quality, quantity, and area. We also all elected to have a pork egg roll as part of our lunch combos. My only gripe with the entire experience was the hot mustard that accompanied the egg roll. I remember it being SO spicy, today it was no where close to that level of spice. It was still good, but I liked it spicier. I also had a kani salad before my meal and it was excellent! I've had a struggle finding good quality kani in Pittsburgh's South Hills/Washington region, and this is definitely a new top choice. I forgot how extensive this menu is and look forward to going back and trying some more things! read more

I love this place. Everything they make is excellent. After reading over the other reviews, I am a bit disgusted with some of them. The things they complained about were actually not to do with the restaurant. I have been eating at this restaurant for years. I live in McMurray and have for 30 years. The restaurant has a quaint look, comfortable seating, and the food is absolutely delicious. Over the years I have ordered everything on the menu and never had a complaint. My favorite is the shrimp fried rice and their wonton soup is so warming. The people working there are the kindest and courteous and always make sure our food is good and that we are happy. I am glad they made it through covid without giving up. They are an icon in McMurray. read more

this restaurant changed name it was Sesame Inn before , I went this past Sunday , two of my dishes were so sweet it was almost inedible so much sugar it was unreel , the shrimp walnut and the pineapple chicken they should call this desert wow I also had General Tso chicken but I knew this was going to be sweet , it wasn't as sweet as the other two dishes . I got shrimp Chop suey the taste was good the sauce was so thick and no mung bean sprout ! I have been coming to Sesame Inn since I was a kid! The food is always great. However, we have ordered the sweet and sour shrimp the last couple of times, and it has just been sub par and rather flavorless. The general tsos is the real show stopper though! It is fried to perfection and the sauce is amazing! I also cannot pass up a delicious egg roll and wonton soup. They also have sushi, which we had yet to try. They are doing a great job with Covid-19 response. They are taking all the precautions you would expect for takeout. Portion sizes were good and the food was hot. I had sesame chicken which was disappointing. I've had it here before with better luck. This time the chicken was fatty and was in huge chunks. It was not easy to eat. There were a few sesame seeds on top but not what I would expect for sesame chicken. The spring roll was over cooked and was burnt. Ordered delivery for Christmas Eve and it was delicious. The best part was, we called earlier in the day for 6 pm delivery and it arrived at 6 pm on the dot! I ordered the veggie egg roll, veggie dumpling, general tsos chicken and ginger salad. The egg roll & dumplings were maybe the best I ever had. Perfectly proportioned between being doughy with a veggie crunch inside. Yum! I will say I had the general tsos chicken years ago and thought the chicken was too big of hunks like other reviews stated. That was not the case this time. The chicken was perfectly crisp with a tangy, slightly spicy, general tsos sauce. It was perfect. I will definitely be returning to sesame inn more! Excellent! I'm vegan and used to love the general tso tofu from China Palace in shadyside bc they had a special brown rice blend w/ . I just moved to Peters Twp and Not many Chinese places offer tofu options. I came here for takeout and received what I believe to be a fantastic dinner! Sauce was great not too spicy but has flavor, tofu was cut small. They added mini corns. Ask for brown Rice, there was $1 up charge but it's worth it. I will definitely be back! read more

i'm hoping it was just an off night, but I will tell you the Sesame Inn in Mount Lebanon and the Sesame Inn in Washington are not the same. We started with sushi; yellowtail and a spicy salmon and both were very fishy. The presentation was awful; the spicy salmon had blobs of Yum Yum sauce on top, no pretty drizzle. Hey, if the sushi is good, I can look past the lack of a fancy sauce design... this was not good. I go to sesame Inn in Mt Lebanon for the general Tso's shrimp end I know general Tso is basic, but the general TSO shrimp in Mount Lebanon is so good you wanna lick the plate, the General Tsos shrimp I had in McMurray was very bland. The sauce was extremely runny and a huge disappointment. I will go back to Mount Lebanon a thousand times before I try the McMurray location ever again. read more

This is a great place to go for a special lunch on a budget. You get a classy and quiet environment, free hot tea brought out as soon as you sit down, soup or an egg roll and an entree for less than $10. That's what I'd expect to pay for take away! Although the environment and the plating is very nice (and don't get me wrong, the food is too), you still are getting classic American Chinese food, just slightly better. I got orange chicken and the chicken wasn't super greasy and the sauce was thinner and not gelatinous like a lot of other places. Seating was fast. It was rather empty. However I did run into one of the owners of one of my favorite Steak spots .. "The Maples" there. Took a good while for food to come but when it did it wasn't a bad experience. The duck was amazing .. the chicken tenders came with no sauce and they charged $3 for sweet and sour sauce for them. I don't like that you can't substitute noodles for rice. Portions were good and the kids really enjoyed the spinning glass in the middle of the table to get the dish they wanted in front of them. read more

We also really like the shrimp tempura roll- super fresh and good. The only reason it's a 4 star review and not 5 is the value. It's relatively expensive. Under new ownership. The recipes have changed, & it's quite noticeable with the first bite. Even the tea is different, it's earthier Mongolian flavor. The new management is friendly, accommodating & forthcoming about the changes to the menu. The Sesame Inn is one of my all-time favorite Chinese restaurants. I have never gotten anything from there that I didn't like as well as the freshest ever. My hats off to them and I couldn't recommend them more. Some of my favorites are general TSO chicken, Mongolian beef, we love the chicken fried rice as well as the shrimp fried rice. My favorite Chinese food! My family has been coming here since I've been a kid, and the food has always been solid, but has been excellent over the past few years! I've moved out of the area but always make a trip to sesame inn when I'm back to visit and get: the wonton soup, egg rolls, and the beef and broccoli. I don't consider myself a Chinese food buff by any means, since I only get it when I'm really in the mood for it, but this place hits the spot without setting itself apart. I love the Mount Lebanon location. This one, not so much. Something about this location put me into somewhat of a depression and I can't pinpoint the exact reason. I came here for lunch and the restaurant was really clean, but the lack of windows made it really dark, even when it was bright and sunny outside. The service was really quick, almost too quick if that's even possible. We ordered and the waitress came out with our soup and egg roll in less than a minute. I can understand the quickness of the soup but the egg roll, it goes to show they probably just have them pre-fried and sitting under a heat lamp in the kitchen. I ordered the Chicken with Garlic Sauce and the hubby ordered the Amazing Chicken. The chicken with garlic sauce was sweet and savory, loaded with a lot of veggies. It tasted ok, but a little heavy on the ginger for me. The amazing chicken wasn't all that amazing, according to the husband. It was way too sweet and lacked any vegetables to cut the sweetness. Although the service was quick, our waitress wasn't all that friendly. She was straight-forward and did not have a smile on her face at any point. The only staff member to ever smile while we were there was the hostess and perhaps that's why she's the hostess. Compared to the Mount Lebanon location, the food seems to taste consistent since the soup and egg roll were identical. I haven't eaten here in years & tonight I wasn't feeling well so decided to order delivery. I ordered the Singapore Rice Noodle & hot & sour soup. The only thing more disappointing than the food was the rude manner in which I was treated by the manager when I called to inform them about the problem with my food. The soup container was only half full & there was ONE mushroom slice & maybe 3 pieces of sliced bamboo shoot. It was pretty pathetic but I had an entire container of mei fun, so I just let it go. The mei fun was so dry that the entire container of noodles had seized together into one hard clump. It was dry & tasteless, which is odd because this dish usually has a lovely curry sauce. No flavor. Zero. I transferred it into a mixing bowl thinking that perhaps all of the curry had gone to the bottom. But the only thing at the bottom was a scrambled egg that the cook had burned & they served it to me anyway. It was literally burned & black. I called the restaurant to inform them & the manager was very rude & defensive. He said that nobody has ever complained about the Singapore noodle before & that in order for him to say anything to the cooks about it, that I would have to drive it back & return it, that he would need to see it & that he couldn't just take a customer's word on it. WOW! I explained to him that I wasn't asking for my money back - that I just thought as a business owner he would like to know if there was a problem with the food. He continued to argue with me & try to convince me that this bowl of dry noodles & burnt eggs was fine and that unless I provided proof he was not even going to mention it to the kitchen. Wow! Love the General Tso chicken steam dumplings crab ragoon and my wife love the eggs rolls say they are by far the best ! Just Great food and always good service, the only I don't like is getting in and out of the parking lot. It kind of tight and not the easiest to get back on to RT 19. I've eaten in just about every Chinese restaurant with a decent rating within a 45 minute drive and The Sesame Inn is one of the best. The food is hot, tasty, and visually appealing. The restaurant is clean and cozy, too. I've talked with the manager a number of times and they'll even make dishes not on the menu. When a mistake is made, they're quick to fix it, just tell them. They have a number of line cooks and each has their own style, but that's great because the food would get boring, otherwise. If you like genuine Chinese food, this comes pretty close. read more
