No frills, but clean & authentic place to get Vietnamese food in Dormont. It's street parking, but there are some side streets nearby too where you can park for 2 hours without a permit. Our server was friendly and prompt and the food came out quickly. I had a craving for a chicken vermicelli bowl and the one here totally met my expectations. It was fresh, crisp, and perfect for a summer day. The veggies had a good crunch to them and the sauce was tangy and bright. The chicken was tender and the spring roll was very crispy. I thought the portion size was fair for the price. Can't wait to go back.
New Saigon GOOD: Top Notch Banh Mi sandwhich - serious wow factor BAD: Nothing much - a little pricey over 10$ but worth it I had a disappointing meal at another local place. Rather then finish it, I tried New Saigon nearby. I'm really glad I did. I wasn't sure what to expect with the banh mi sandwich, but I went for it and it was great. The meat was tender. The sweet and spicy sauce was excellent and the real star actually was the cucumber slices which gave it a cold, refreshing crunch. I just may put cucumbers on all my sandwiches going forward. i highly recommend new saigon in Dormont.

I've been looking for the most authentic Vietnamese food and so far, this is my clear winner. I can't wait to have their pho. So far I've had their bah mi, which was delicious and not dry, and their grilled chicken bun (vermicelli noodle bowl) which was MASSIVE and so fresh. I had a few questions about what the blood tofu was on the menu and if the bun bowl was a vermicelli bowl. I can't tell you the answers, honestly. Waters were refilled promptly. The ambiance is meh. Parking can get a bit crowded all over the street but we parked in a residential area and it was free to do so.
Bahn mi was pretty good! Got takeout from here and the bahn mi with pork was the star for me. Also got chicken pho and it was just okay. The broth and the veggies were great but unfortunately the chicken was dry and the noodles were all clumped together into a big mush (I got takeout) noodles were in a separate container. The daughter was craving pho so after searching yelp, decided to come to New Saigon and it definitely hit the spot. The broth in the pho was good. The best dish was the salt and pepper shrimp which was the best we've ever had, we've had a lot... so good that it was devoured before we could snap a pic. Excellent service.
Solid spot for Vietnamese food. Not a ton of this cuisine in Pittsburgh, especially in Dormont, so it's nice to see a spot like this. I got takeout. Honestly, I think the rating would be higher if I went in person. It's the kind of spot that doesn't really work well for takeout but may be quite good in person. Regardless, I got the wonton hu tieu and the pineapple boba milk tea with strawberry and passion fruit popping boba. The wonton hu tieu was quite unique. If you get takeout, they have the broth, the noodles, and the vegetables separate for you to assemble. The plastic container the noodles are placed in is too small to fit all the broth they give. Flavor wise, the broth was strangely a bit sweet. There were too many green onions for my liking as well. The noodles were alright, but nothing special. They were also somewhat clumped in the takeout. The wontons were the best part. They had a nice amount of filling (which seemed to be some kind of meat but I can't say which kind). The other meat on top was pretty fatty and just not really my favorite but it's nice to have a double meat portion. The boba was very good, though. It was a tad bit on the expensive side, but the quality was great. Sweet and perfectly milky. The boba was fresh and had great flavor. All in all, this is a solid spot. It's just that I think it would be better in person than with takeout, and the broth wasn't exactly my favorite. But the boba was great and I'm willing to give it another shot.
I have never in my life has such over fried tofu. Painful to eat. Side note- when packaging to go pho, the vegetables should NEVER be packaged in the hot broth. They should be place in the container on the side. Why would I want to eat soggy wilted vegetables ? And with that being said, the vegetables take up so much room in the broth container- how much broth am I even getting lol? Really utterly disappointing food for $20 a meal. General tso tofu is inedible and the pho is pathetic. Also, hot food in styrofoam is literally a major carcinogen as well as just horrible for the environment. A+ for you.
AUTHENTIC BUN BO HUE!! oh my gosh, i finally found some authentic vietnamese food here! I got the spicy beef noodle soup and it has all the authentic rustic components that reminds me of home. my parents are vietnamese immigrants and i grew up eating really good homemade vietnamese food. I recently moved to pittsburgh and was sad the vietnamese scene was lacking. happy i found this place! i know its authentic when it has the pork blood cubes and pork hooves. thank you for doing it right I ordered to-go, but will be visiting in person to try their pho
we came during the last couple hours on a sunday and the owners were super welcoming and made sure we were well taken care of during our visit. the food was great during a cold night and we came out satisfied from our pho cravings. we got the rare beef pho and shrimp fried rice which i'm sure are popular choices. the pho came in a large bowl so me and my friend were able to split one order in half, and still came out full.
I was here for dinner and got the vermicelli bun and a large bowl of just Pho broth. Food was very good bit $$$ were a little steep. $10 for the broth which usually is about $6 everywhere else I go. Bun was good but portion was about 20% less than most places I go to. Overall great food though and friendly staff. Hard to get into if you have disabilities because the front steps are sunken in and harder to use. I would definitely recommend and be back when I'm in the area.
I'm torn on rating this place, because on one hand the food is absolutely terrific. On the other hand, however, the customer service is absolutely atrocious. I came to dine on 1/14/2024 and the restaurant was pretty busy. However, that shouldn't mean customers should wait 30 minutes before even being acknowledged by the staff. It's very clear that the staff cannot handle busy times efficiently. After being sat, it took another 20 minutes to get a drink (after reminding the server twice) and my appetizer was already out at the table by that point. The crispy chicken dumplings were exactly as the menu described, with 8 stuffed dumplings to an order. I ordered the combination Pho and was pleased with the taste and portion size. It came out very hot, there was plenty of beef and the broth was very hearty. The restaurant itself is quite small so it does get cramped inside very quickly. It's not ideal for large parties and there isn't much room to move around in the restaurant. So be prepared to have people standing right by your tables if there's any sort of wait. Overall, the food was enjoyable but the service left a lot to be desired. While the staff was working hard, it's hard to look past their lack of professionalism and customer service during the busy rush. I would recommend going here maybe for lunch when it's less busy, but don't come if you're in a rush or hurry.

First pho experience: check! I've been wanting to try an authentic pho spot for a few years now, and after seeing a movie at the newly renovated Hollywood theater, my friends and I visited New Saigon for a cozy dinner. The space is quite small and very straightforward, but you can smell the delicious food from the street outside before you even step foot in the door. The table included hoisin sauce, sriracha, chili paste, and pickled peppers, and the menu was concise. I ordered rare beef pho and fresh spring rolls. Everything was SO tasty and tasted very fresh. We received a plate of requisite pho toppings, including basil, bean sprouts, and jalapeño slices. Everything was comforting and generous in portion! I will absolutely be back! read more
With the colder weather, New Saigon is a great place to warm up with a comforting bowl of pho or other noodle soups. I was very impressed by the depth of the broth flavors for both the pho and the bun bo hue (spicy lemongrass); I had several bowls of bun bo hue in its place of origin in Vietnam and New Saigon's version tasted very authentic (though for the less adventurous, does contain pork hock). read more

Food was fine, not exceptional, priced a little high imho. Big portion/ Server was a nice young man polite and accommodating when the order he delivered wasn't right. I'd really give it 3.5 but that's not an option. read more

Was estimated to take 50-60 minutes. My delivery driver kept texting saying the restaurant needed more time. It has been 2 hours and we still do not have our food. All very suspicious so you decide if this is an honest establishment. read more

Pho is my love language! And my favorite place is New Saigon in Dormont. It's a warm restaurant on the corner of Potomac and Glenmore. I usually park on the street but there is also a pay lot behind the restaurant. Take out is fast and the inside booths are cozy. I usually get a hot tea, crispy spring rolls and pho. The deep broth, fresh herbs and crunchy bean sprouts are flavorful and satisfying. Truly one of my favorite places to warm up in Pittsburgh. read more
Viet place in Dormont! The food is pretty good but portions are pretty small. Also this place is pretty small as well so it's gets really busy. Yesterday lots of people were waiting for a table right In front of our table, so was really crowded. Overall, a decent place to get viet food. read more

I saved this place on Yelp as one to visit when I got back to Pittsburgh for school..... and then I promptly got COVID upon my return. Luckily, my friend was ordering delivery from here and offered to get me a bowl during my quarantine and I'm SO glad she did. I ordered the rare beef pho. I genuinely think I could put this broth in a water bottle and carry it around with me for when my thirst needs quenching. In general, I associate pho with having a bit of a lighter broth, and usually having that lighter broth means sacrificing some flavor or flavor depth. I somehow found that this broth was simultaneously light AND was rich with flavor. Definitely a BTR (Broth To Remember). I heated it up when I got it so that the beef would cook. They included plenty of toppings (I'm talking bean sprouts, basil, lime, the works) and the portion was pretty substantial. The only down side was that the noodles were a bit mushy. It may be because of the transport, or it may not be. Either way, I am looking forward to going to the restaurant in person so that I can try a bowl when it's fresh! read more

I haven't eaten in the restaurant as I've only ordered takeout. However when I order takeout it is always super fresh and packed well to avoid sogginess before you can eat. I love their grilled pork bun only $16 and spring rolls $7. They're very flavorful, fresh, healthy and light on the stomach without breaking the bank for a good meal. I recently discovered this restaurant and so happy to have a vietnamese place close on the south hills. Highly recommend! read more

Loved this place! Charming and low-key atmosphere, the owner is super sweet and friendly, but the bun was amazing. The spring rolls were crispy and savory, the vegetables crisp and fresh, and the meat marinated perfectly. Plus, the portion size is generous. Service was fast too. I really enjoyed Little Saigon and hope to come back and try more menu items. read more

Can't figure out how this place has such high reviews. $11.99 for a Banh Mi dac biet (reference photo) that looks absolutely horrendous and disgraceful. I'm absolutely mortified, I understand the lack of competition in a small suburb but come on .... read more
My daughter was hungry and had mentioned New Saigon. She's had prior experience with New Saigon and was happy with them, so I agreed when she wanted to get takeout. My first order from New Saigon I decided to stick with 'safe' orders to gauge whether I'd be a returning customer and I have to say yes. I ordered Fresh Spring rolls and the beef Pad Thai, definitely tasty and just what I was expecting. The Fresh Spring rolls were nice and chewy, filled with fresh veggies, noodles, shrimp, bits of pork and mint or basil. The peanut dipping sauce had a light topping of Siracha sauce which made a great combo for the Fresh Spring Rolls, a definite taste of goodness. My Beef Pad Thai was a generous portion. The noodles were not the wide cut Pad Thai noodles I've had at other establishments, but more like the noodles one might see in Pho. None the less, the dish had good amounts of tender, tasty beef, and a great flavor overall. Not sure what else to add to my first try of New Saigon, but that I will definitely keep them on my radar for my Vietnamese food fix. Living near Dormont and having another option for good food makes me a happy camper. read more
I've been craving pho for the longest time and wanted to try somewhere new that was close to home. It's a small place and not too much seating but was there on a Friday night and it didn't get too packed but definitely more people came in as the night went on. The restaurant itself doesn't seem the cleanest, though, but it seemed fine. We ordered the fresh spring rolls which weren't my favorite, they were a bit chewy and i did not like how they put the Vietnamese ham inside of them. It made it taste a bit gamey which threw me off for sure. The pork skewers were delicious but way too small. They're accompanied with mint, basil, noodles and lettuce to wrap them in with a sweet sauce. I loved that dish, just wish they had more or were bigger for the price. We both ordered the spicy lemongrass soup but substituted for chicken and my mom just did rare beef. Let me tell you, it was definitely spicy! I think the level of spiciness took away from the flavor, sadly, though. It definitely could have been way more lemongrass-y and i felt like there was hardly any chicken in my bowl, my mom agreeing with her rare beef. They did not skimp on the noodles, though. I was a little confused at how thick the noodles were, too. The aromatics and such you put in pho were plentiful, which i appreciated. I'd like to go back and maybe try their regular broth for pho and their crispy spring rolls because those looked delicious. read more

My friends and I visited New Saigon for the first time over the weekend and we all left the restaurant feeling amazed! To start we tried the fresh spring rolls and these were by far the best spring rolls I have had. Not only were they a great size and packed with flavor, but the homemade sauce these spring rolls were served with was amazing. For the entrees most of us ended up ordering the General T'SO Chicken with lo-mein instead of rice. Hands down, this was the best General T'SO's Chicken I have ever had. The portion size was extremely generous, the chicken was cooked perfectly and was crispy, and the sauce for this dish had the perfect ratio of sweetness to tanginess. I loved this dish and would definitely order it again. We also received a very generous portion of lo-mein noodles with this dish that also tasted incredible. In addition to the outstanding food that we received, the service was also fantastic. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and ensured that we had a fantastic dining experience. I will most definitely be back! read more
Best Vietnamese restaurant in Pittsburgh. The restaurant was very clean. Went on a Sunday night and it was quite busy, but the staff was very friendly. Got the BBH, combination pho, vermicelli, and fresh spring rolls. Everything was 10/10. Highly recommend!! read more
