However, they still do sell tasty roast pork or chicken banh mi. A warm French baguette is filled with the meat of choice and topped with the tasty ingredients. The heat of the jalapenos are cooled by the pickled vegetables and the mayo helps bring all the ingredients together. By Pittsburgh standards, it's worthy of 4 stars easy. On the other hand, their pho has much room for improvement. The broth wasn't as savory and flavorful as I've had elsewhere and the noodles were a bit on the tougher side. A banh mi will run you $5-$6, which is definitely on the pricier side given it's size, but as a niche food in a small market, I'm definitely not complaining if I need my banh mi fix. The fried calamari had a light, crispy batter and came with good sized rings and tentacles. The crispy imperial rolls were exactly what you'd want from a classic egg roll. The flavors of the crispy bánh khọt were great, although they weren't quite as crispy as I expected. We were the first customers of the day, so I'm not sure if it was due to the circular grill not being full heated up yet. I ordered the hot stone pho with 12 oz ribeye steak in beef broth. The stone bowl kept the broth piping hot throughout the meal. The ribeye was served perfectly medium-rare, and briefly dipping each slide into the hot broth made it incredibly tender and flavorful. I did feel it was a bit too fatty, because they added the fat globules from the steak into the soup. I also tried the Bela Pho Combo during another visit, which had a variety of different meats. I learned that both the combo and the hot stone pho use the same broth, but the stone bowl keeps the soup much hotter. I'll probably alternate between ordering these two dishes depending on how much I want to dent my wallet--the hot stone pho is a fun splurge, while the Bela Pho Combo is a great everyday option. The prices are a bit higher than at many other pho restaurants, but the quality of the ingredients, generous portions, and overall experience make it well worth the extra cost.
