    Roll appetizer
    Daniel M.

Came in for dinner, had reservations table for 3. The ambiance is really nice, you forget where you once you enter the restaurant, seems like the hussle and train track noise of the 7 train dissipates completely. The menu while its not just sushi, sashimi or rolls, does have other items that are not raw seafood. I wanted to try grilled eel which is a signature dish. The eel was very well seasoned, the hime made glaze was cery savory bit of sweet and salty but enough that you can enjoy it with the omelette. IMO the omelette could have been cooked less, presentation was very nice, giving the dish a lot of volume. Overall a good choice and very filling. my wife had the chirashi donburi. I did not try it but she thought it was very tasty. For appetizers we had the Shimesaba tartare (mackerel salad). This dish came with 4 slices of lightly toasted baguette abd the mackerel was similar to the way a tuna salad is made, mayo flavor and all. The dish itself felt did not have the expectation of a tartare dish, which i had many in the form of seafood or beef tartare and bobe if them ever had mayonnaise as part of the dish. Kind of a misleading name, setting me for the wrong visuals. the Une Takowasa (raw octopus). The raw octopus was as the least liked appetizer, extremely salty, the octopus was very chewy and the dish itself while it was decorated with thinly straws of cucumber, it was not enough to dissipate the strong salt flavor, i say skip it. Both of the appetizer were more of a passing fad but not something i would ever try again. I was surprised that while they have a very good cocktail menu utilizing Japanese whiskeys, the beer menu was at best basic. Dinner for 3 with 3 appetizers and 3 main courses was $228. Last but not least, i get it that restaurant want to suggest a minimum dollar amount for tip, when the bill came over the machine is programmed to start off at 20% gratuity, personally the meal is already a high price meal given we only had water. Dont get me wrong the staff is nice, friendly and very cordial bit i dont agree i should have to tip 20% tip. Overall a different vibe in the neighborhood, i have to be honest that my experience felt rushed. I have not finished my appetizer when the waiter came in to remove plates and we were not all finished, felt like maybe they were running out of plates in the back. Maybe that is why he came and removed empty plates before everyone in the table was done. Felt somewhat rude and rushed. As always, i like to give new restaurants an opportunity as they thrive in the neighborhood.

They were busy on a weekday evening, but there was still a lot of seating available. Reservations are available on Resy, but not needed. The tables are pretty small, so eating space is a little tight. Iced Genmaicha: comes with a small cup of simple syrup to adjust sweetness to your taste. The genmaicha was light in flavor so I added some simple syrup for more flavor. I will try the hot version next time. Shirasu Salad: they mixed the egg and pour it on top tableside, which felt a bit awkward. I'd prefer to do it myself. There is an interesting mix of flavors; the pepperiness from the mizuna (like arugula), creaminess from the cream cheese, and the saltiness from the whitebait and tsuyu dressing made for quite a flavor and texture combination. Hokke (mackerel): watch out for the bones! Tender and cooked well. The radish cuts the saltiness. I would get a different fish appetizer next time to avoid dealing with the bones. Una Tama Donburi: nice big chunk of eel and omelet. Love the eel sauce and the yuzu kosho (pepper) on the side! Very flavorful. The pickled radish helped cut the richness. A must get! Maguro Handroll Donburi: fresh chunks of tuna. I enjoyed the egg yolk mixed with the rice. You can make the perfect bite (nori, egg, rice, maguro, cabbage, wasabi, soy sauce). An interesting idea to DIY handrolls, so that the nori stays crisp. Parfait (Hojicha): did not have much hojicha flavor. It was more vanilla-y than anything. The matcha mochi, red bean, cornflakes and strawberry are an odd combination as it leads to a confusing texture and flavor profile. I would get dessert elsewhere (this is their only dessert on the menu with 3 flavors of ice cream: hojicha, vanilla and matcha). Overall, a mixed menu. That said, I will definitely be back for the Una Tama Donburi and to try other things on the menu.

I often get the urge to give a place more stars than they deserve because I admire the uniqueness, or appreciate them doing something slightly different, or having a particular vision. I feel Tomoni ticks a lot of those boxes, but I'm probably being more generous than my first experience here warrants. The vibe of this place was hitting for me. I like the mid-century modern decor in combination with the Japanese aesthetic of quiet harmony of natural materials tossed in with a throw back soundtrack of NYC gritty 70s/80s. This space is something seldom seen in this section of Woodside. The two top we sat at was disappointing small, and unfortunately our servers didn't know how to space bringing our dishes out because at one point all 4 of our dishes were trying to occupy a space barely just enough for 2. I think they can be a bit more mindful because it made for an uncomfortable and rushed eating experience. The Una-Tama is a 5 star dish hands down! I have no idea where else in NYC you are going to get satisfying slab of eel draped across a flavorful omelet and expertly made rice bowl. (edit: Izakaya Nana in Flushing does a slightly smaller version of this dish) I love how they have one edge sitting in the eel sauce bowl (I doubt they would do a presentation like this in Japan, or maybe they would, I haven't been YET) with a little brush to add more. There was a powdered seasoning that added brightness and some wasabi. I will be back for this dish alone. The fish in Maguro Handroll Donburi had my expectations high with Bluefin tuna (diced), negitoro, chutoro, and raw egg yolk, but they weren't met. Flavor of the fish was mediocre. Some pickled cabbage on the side was non descript. Fantastic rice like the Una-Tama. I'm not too big of a fan of making my own handrolls, but I can see the appeal. I enjoyed the contrast in the shirasu salad. The arugula was very fresh. The whitebait, cream cheese, poached egg, homemade tsuyu dressing was a bit gloppy and unappealing to me. I wanted to order the shimesaba tartare (which I will try next time) but mistakenly picked the other mackerel dish, Hokke which is just a grilled piece of fish. If you don't enjoy bones in your fish don't order this dish. The fish was tasty, but a bit of a pain to eat with the small bones. The hojicha parfait was a bit overpriced for what it was and not an actual parfait (looks like a sundae) - I made a note to check out Purple Dough nearby which has a more extensive and interesting looking dessert collection. Come with a group because the dishes are made to share, and to avoid those undersized 2 tops. Grab a booth if you can. Enjoy the vibe. The Eel is a must - Una Tama for the win! Despite the negatives I left here feeling hopeful and happy to see someone opening something different besides the same old same old that has been happen in Queens lately (Mamdani, can we put a moratorium on opening Hot-pot, Boba Tea, or KBBQ spots for the next couple of years?). I wish Tomoni much success!

Wow, we were seriously blown away by the quality and freshness of everything here Every piece of fish was incredibly fresh, and the unagi was so flavorful, soft, and perfectly cooked. The dessert was also a MUST-try. They also have some really unique cocktails that were so fun to try Such a great spot and definitely recommending this place to our friends!!

5+ stars, enjoyed my first visit here. A chill space once you step in from the busy Roosevelt Ave., just under the 7 train line. We were here on Mother's Day (reservation a must), and was seated within minutes of our arrival. Every staff member was welcoming. The dining room was pretty packed, just past the bar. The space is cozy and has warm lighting. The tables and banquettes provide for optimal seating no matter the size of your group. Like the name, you'll enjoy "together" wherever you sit. Way in the back, there is counter seating where you can dine and watch the sushi chefs at work. Interestingly, this Japanese restaurant does not serve a la carte sushi and sashimi. They are mainly a DIY hand roll spot but also serves "bowl" entrees and plenty of starters if you just want to nosh on appetizers. Great spot for drinking as well as I noticed yuzu beer and a signature Mocktail in addition to other sake options. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach on this visit, and with 3 of us, we had an opportunity to try a selection of things. Onto the food - everything was shareable and on the smaller side but they were all great to sample. The sushi options and seafood were magnificent - super fresh and very well prepared. Starters: - Ume takowasa - raw fine pieces of octopus. some were tender and pliable but there were a few that were too firm to the point I didn't want to finish. Mixed reviews on this. - Goma hamachi - excellent app - super smoky and the flavor of the sesame sauce was outstanding - Misozuke cream cheese - 2 day miso marinated cream cheese served with nori. Just yum! Rich and decadent but fun to eat. - tuna special which was the closest thing to a sashimi style dish. Two kinds of sliced tuna served sashimi style. Bluefin Toro (fatty) and Akami (lean). Super appetizing and fresh. Entrees - perfect portion of rice and proteins: Hubby chose the three make your own hand rolls: salmon, uni, and spicy tuna. All of the fishes were well prepped and delicious. The nori and sauce on the side. I had the Chirashi bowl, which contained bluefin tuna, salmon, hamachi, scallop, chutoro and ikura. So good. I couldn't stop eating! To finish the meal, we ordered the Hojicha Signature Parfait. A bowl of goodies, think ice cream, cornflakes, sweet red beans, whipped cream and mochi. All served with strawberries and kuromitsu syrup. Something for everyone. I'm itching to return to try the rest of the menu! This was a phenomenal dinner and I cannot wait to bring my peeps.

As you enter, the wait staff greet you. They take reservations and also answer questions about the menu items. The ambiance is pretty quiet but also convenient for a conversation. The menu has different appetizers than other restaurants like yellowtail collar, cured mackerel, salmon collar. It also has delicious entrees with option of having a hand roll. I had the chirashi, and it was really good.

Another Japanese spot checked off the list, and this one definitely impressed me. I love Eel in general and first time seeing such a huge eel ! Felt very contented eating it with that big portion. Sanshoku (assorted sashimi with raw egg on top) tasted fresh, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully prepared. We also like their A5 Wagyu Donburi which is flavorful. @tomoninyc is definitely great spot if you're looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience that's both satisfying and memorable. What we ordered : - Sanshoku Donburi (Sashimi) - Una Tama Donburi (Grilled Eel) - A5 Wagyu Donburi - Tokyo Love Story - Geso Karage (deep fried squid legs) - Shimesaba Tartare (cured mackerel) - Assorted Sashimi - Signature Green Tea Parfait

I've been seeing the viral eel omelette don in Japan and can't believe you can get it in NYC now!! Tomoni just opened in Woodside, Queens with a cozy izakaya vibe, and the sashimi quality is honestly on par with (if not better than) some omakase spots. We went on a weekday night and the restaurant was busy! Service was still very warm and attentive. Highly recommend getting a res. *Una Tama $39 * It was stacked with an extra-long grilled eel and a fat piece of japanese omelette over a bed of rice. The tamagoyaki went so well with the unagi. The eel had a nice charcoal-grilled aroma and a soy glazed exterior, with crispy charred edges and a tender center. It was already well seasoned, but they give you a mini brush so you can add more sweet soy sauce if you want, so it never gets too salty. *Sanshoku $36 ** It was beautifully arranged with bluefin tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. The raw egg yolk made the chirashi extra creamy, and the salty pop from the ikura tied everything together. I didn't even need any soy sauce! *Yakiniku $25 ** I wasn't expecting much from a gyudon at first, but I WAS SO WRONG. The beef had a smoky jbbq aroma, and the rice soaked up all the yakiniku sauce and the runny onsen egg. *Goma Hamachi $14 ** We also got a couple of their most recommended apps to share. The goma hamachi was seriously out of this world. They marinated the yellowtail with sesame sauce. But a bit pricey for just four slices. *Tsukune $9 * The tsukune (chicken meatball) was delicious, especially dipped in the raw egg yolk. *Geso Kara $14 The fried squid eggs were a solid snack with mayo on the side. The squid was meaty with a thin fried batter, but nothing mind-blowing. *Hojicha Parfait $15 ** It came with a generous scoop of hojicha ice cream, topped with kinako powder, red beans, kuromitsu syrup, mochi, matcha warabimochi, and strawberries. I devoured the whole parfait by myself. Definitely save room for dessert!

Thai + Japanese A favorite restaurant Sammuk in Queens is now gone and replaced with a totally new restaurant concept. The same owners partnered with a Japanese friend and reopened as Tomoni. We somehow guessed because the staff is the same as Sammuk so we asked and got a confirmation that this new restaurant is from the same group. It's a beautiful renovation that looks like I was transported to the fancy parts of Brooklyn --- very gentried, classy lighting and general vibes but still has that unmistakable welcoming and friendly Queens feel. It has certainly leveled up as a neighborhood restaurant. I love the menu options. My favorites were Una-Tama and the hojicha parfait. Congratulations, @tomoninyc ! Love the food and the new space. #curious_eater #tomoninyc

Yeah honestly I thought the place looked beautiful and I'm always struggling with Japanese food, we went a few weeks ago and I really appreciated how nice the staff were this review is 100% not concerning them but the food itself. I feel like it was just overpriced for what you got if that makes sense? Portions weren't that great for a party of four we definitely left hungry for $80 per person. It kinda felt like an instagram spot that's getting inflated as opposed to a place I'd tell my friends about if that makes sense? Maybe it was an off day but the don we ordered had every ingredient taste the same, it was very visually appealing but we couldn't pick apart flavors at all. Would I go back? Maybe honestly I think everywhere deserves a second chance and they're just opening. But I wouldn't buy into the influencer videos I'd try it yourself and give your opinion. Just keep in mind it's more about the value of what we got for the price than anything else. Def not somewhere you'd go every week more so special occasions if you enjoy the food.

We went to Tomoni for my birthday because recently a few people have raved about this space from the Eat Something New in Queens group. We went on a Tuesday night so it was pretty empty except a table that came before us but as we were eating more people came in so two more tables got filled up. The recommendations that we got was the homemade cheese, the yellowtail for appetizers. Hubby and I both got a chirashi each and we ordered the Uni as well to share. We also had some sake to go with our meal. We throughly enjoyed the cheese appetizer to our surprise! It was so delicious! Definitely worth getting it. The chirashi and Uni entrees were delicious but what stood out for us too was the rice! It didn't look like white but brown rice which I actually like better! The seasoning in the sushi rice was phenomenal! Since it was my birthday and because they asked they actually gave us a mango & ube mochi ice cream. OMG the flavors are real fruit and freshly made. Definitely would love to come back! The price was about $120 pp with alcohol so definitely a treat and not a regular place to eat at but definitely wouldn't mind coming back for special occasions.

The concept is so needed in this neighborhood and felt like a great addition as the menu stood out and there aren't many Japanese izakaya style restaurants in Queens. We went for a late dinner around 11pm and were advised that we can only order from the late menu as the sushi bar was closed. The appetizers were on the small side but expected. We thought the hamachi collar was well seasoned and very good. We then waited over 20 minutes for our entree and the staff were apologetic about the wait so offered dessert for the trouble which we also waited for over 20 minutes for this said dessert. This became a very long dinner, over 1.5 hours. There were many staff that came to check on us but the pace was off and it felt like our food was forgotten about or not sent to the table who ordered the dishes first. A table that came in 15 minutes after us got the same eel entree we ordered before we did. It felt slow and disorganized. I hope they work on this and can improve.

The food is all so fresh and delicious. The service is great and portion is very generous. And Oh my I love the interior design and all the colors they used on the wall and on the furniture. Very pretty and they truly have great taste in putting everything together.

The place is pretty large despite it looking somewhat narrow outside but there's a lot of seating inside as well as some seating outside in the case the place gets crowded, fortunately I didn't have to worry about that. Credit to the service, two waitresses went above and beyond their duty to made sure I had a satisfactory time at their Restaurant and I will always give credit where it's due to the wait staff doing a solid job. Even though I'm giving this place a 5 star rating, there were two small grievances. I did have to wait for some time for my food to get to my plate, like an almost 15 minute wait, but for what it's worth, the food was solid. The other one, which was a small annoyance was that the empanadas I ordered along with the Pollo A La Brasa were forgotten and if I hadn't brought that to the waitresses attention, I would've went without my appetizers. They did make it up by giving me a complimentary margarita. I do appreciate the gesture, but I'm not a strong drinker, I'm a lightweight and after one sip of that, it was powerful enough to almost knock me out. I tried to endure it but I only finished half of that before giving up. Despite that, just the show of them caring for the customer is enough for me to know that they value their patrons here. That's more than enough for me. I like the vibe of the place, it has a Latin fusion feel but majority of their food is affordable. I'd make a 2nd visit here in due time.

He even took my godsister's margarita without her noticing, even though there was some left. I'd understand if they needed the table back and wanted us to wrap up but the dining room was pretty empty. Cleaning up aggressively while we're clearly still eating just makes an unpleasant experience.

Food: 9/10 Space: 3/10…read moreVibes: 10+++ Don't be like me and get blindsided by the loud music and tight space. But I should already know that chill and Steinway never mix--ever. Our group came here to celebrate a happy occasion with such good vibes, so the vibes were definitely off the charts. The little "dance floor" they carved out in the middle barely suffices as one, but I guess they really made do with what they had. They definitely try to overpack this place to the max. Food was amazing, though. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share, like the yuca corquettes (probably my favorite), coconut shrimp, shrimp ceviche, guac, and the tostones rellones. They were all so, so good and not overly expensive, that we made another order of everything. My drink (Mori Sanado) was very good and came with a cute fish-shaped glass. It's an overstimulating place, to say the least, so I'd mentally prepare for that alone. Since we came on a Saturday night, it was expected that it was a party vibe but I expect it's the same during brunch. You really do have to come with good company to be able to slightly enjoy this place. I wouldn't come here with people that I expect to have a conversation with, because you really can't hear anything.

Ordered 2 Happy hour drinks in a classic flavor, received both, and a check for 1 HH drink and 1 "classic margarita" for $14 Tip already included and unfortunately I ran to the bathroom or I would've only paid for what I ordered and not what they charged me for. The food was nonexistent, the service bad, and the ambiance was lacking! Do so much better! No thumbs for Boske, will not return. I do NOT recommend.

The ambiance is very chill. Last call was at 1:30am pride sunday into Monday. ::bathroom alert:: Disgusting had mold. So glad they dont have to serve food. The drinks are super cheap. I love that the NA beers are only $6. Not too shabby when you wanna hang out with your friends who are drinkers. This place is way smaller than their sister site madem Marie on broadway. Had a great time would recommend they also have a jukebox.

The bar itself is very much dive bar vibes, with a really solid draft beer selection and decent outdoor patio for folks to enjoy during the nicer weather. We were two of four people here when happy hour kicked off and were served right away. Drinks were strong despite it being happy hour, and we appreciated the free popcorn too. The Old Bay seasoning on the hot popcorn straight out of their vintage looking popcorn popper is ::chefs kiss:: I ended up getting another round because why wouldn't you at these prices? We were tempted to stay (or even come back) for trivia night since it was starting in a few hours at 7, but decided to save it for another time. Really a gem of a bar in Astoria, 10/10 no notes.

The atmosphere and ambience was warm and inviting, while people were engaging and having fun it never got too loud where you couldn't have a convo at your table. It was also still happy hour, so we enjoyed a few glasses of wine, the QR burger, and the Roast chicken breast. Both equal delicious. We also wanted to try the crab and avocado dip to share, but we weren't sure if the chips were safe for my friend to have, who has a GF allergy. Our waitress was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The waitress knew which plates could be modified to accommodate dietary restrictions which was super helpful in decision making process. Overall the food, service, and atmosphere were great. Def a nice place to check out!

The staff was nice about it and we were able to give our extra seats to another party who gave in. Unfortunately we were there too late for happy hour specials and the cocktails are a little on the pricier side. Drinks in my photos: La Isla Bonita Like a Virgin (mocktail) (I love the Madonna-themed names) We really wanted the Halloumi Fries but were told they ran out. Food shared between 2 people: Chicken Wings (lemon parmesan flavor) Seared Tofu (comes with asparagus, broccolini, spinach). French Fries (large portion so others at the table had to help us with it). One of my other friends had the Cacio e Pepe tortellini. He said it didn't taste like "authentic" cacio e pepe but that it was still delicious and he finished it all. Great staff, location, ambiance, food and drinks.
