I discovered this spot, despite living here basically my entire life, while doing a bar crawl and craving something at 1 in the morning. Walking in, immediately, the atmosphere was lively and everyone seemed to be having a good night with drinks and karaoke. This spot seems to have karaoke by their bar section quite a bit at night, especially on the weekends. Although a slight language barrier, our waitress was an absolute doll and she made such a great effort trying to understand our minimal spanish. She was super sweet and was checking on us regularly. The drinks came out pretty immediately, though I will say they are a bit heavy handed with the alcohol. Wasn't a big fan of the piña colada, as it tasted like only rum and no actual pineapple/coconut, but the other drinks looked pretty interesting. The actual food though, oh my goodness. It was genuinely so amazing that I came back the next day to have it again for lunch. The fish tacos are to die for. The tilapia is nice and soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside. Despite so many fried items, nothing felt too greasy and that's what really tied it together. The flavors in the items are impeccable, and I highly recommend anyone to go here. They're open pretty late on the weekends so definitely grab a bite before heading home. read more

I never felt this stretch of Roosevelt was the most vibrant, but it's gotten a little brighter thanks to La Casa de Julia. The food is on par with what one would expect in this part of NYC, but it is one of the more versatile Mexican establishments in this part of Woodside. Once past the bright lights, the restaurant is deceivingly spacious with a bar and plenty of tables. The staff primarily speaks in Spanish and the crowd as usually locals from the neighborhood. Prices are somewhere in the middle. From a food perspective, it's solid. Their tacos are on par with most of the restaurants in the vicinity. It's neither outstanding nor terrible but they are the perfect complement to their variety of drinks from micheladas to margaritas. The place is a very different experience for people who are coming to party, watch soccer, or enjoy with a group. Even though I think their Tex-Mex nachos are a near abomination, It actually works quite well when paired with any of their drinks. Their enchiladas are poblano appropriate, with a decent portion of refried beans and rice. Their menu is actually quite vast with plenty of Mexican classics. Their guacamole appetizer has nice chunks of avocado and good seasoning. Finish it all with some of their signature churros and life isn't so bad. They have free delivery and this place is both empty and busy all within the same night. If there's a good futbol match on and the drinks are flowing, I would be keen to order a spread out here and leave having had a good time. I would have never expected this little spot to bring out such nice looking dishes to the table. Not only did everything look great but everyone enjoyed their meal. I had my veggie fajitas (vegan) it was yummy but I also took pics of everyone else's food for you. Oh and my margarita packed a punch! Cheers!! I love the space at this restaurant. Not really Wheelchair accessible due to 1 step. The food was great , Fish tacos is really big, so u be stuff with it, nacos are really good, The soups are great. We had frozen margaritas, But I think that was overpriced for jar that only gives u 4 small servings, Also not that strong but they tasted good, The had Karaoke, one around 7, he was pretty good, and another one at 10, he really was not that great plus the speaker was really not tuned and so loud your ears would hurt . we left after that. Good place if u doing take out or delivery, prices are not so steep. read more

Casa de Julia is a Mexican restaurant with a bar for watching sporting events. Like most Mexican restaurants in the area, English is a bit limited here. I ordered to go and got the fish taco, lengua taco, and al pastor tostada. The fish taco was huge! However the taste was average. Soo... this is called the house of Julia really nice back story and whatnot. The restaurant itself is really cute and has a really pretty theme going on. :( I love my Mexican food but I didn't understand how this restaurant is so "welcoming" and they do the complete opposite. The food was mid. It was good but nothing that I'll crave again from here and miss except the Flan it was really good and fluffy. I also asked for no jalapeños on the nachos and they put hella of them. If it was packed it would have been understandable because I know the cooks have a lot of pressure but like it wasn't. I did like that they give you chicharrones instead of nachos. That is so cute, fresh and delicious and then with the Valentina uff. The waitress was nice she is new and just started working there not long. However, I did not feel comfortable as she was just looking at us eat and made me feel like they put something in my food or something. Like when Mr. Krabs & SpongeBob gave the "health inspector" that patty iykyk. The bill came (not cheap cuz everyone knows Mexican food is not cheap) and then the waitress comes and tells us we can't have outside drinks and that each water we bought has a $2.00 fee. We were like the only family and then 2 couples. I will not accept that they couldn't tell us before and we could have easily left or bought water from there. This has never happened and we eat out ALL the time. Anyways we asked to speak to the manager and basically the owner came and he said that the waitress is new so it was a mistake she didn't tell us before. Well if this was my restaurant and I had that policy I would set the waitress aside and tell her kindly that outside drinks are not permitted and there is a fee for EVERY bottle. And then I would tell her to remind the customers and that this was on the restaurant's part and that next time this happens there will be a charge. Unfortunately and gladly this is not my restaurant and the owner expected us to pay. While he was b***tching about this there was a drunk guy and he was hella wasted and was trying to pull the juice machine and it was almost going to fall I told the owner like umm hello the machine and he quickly went and stopped him. In the end we did not pay the fee and he was pretty cool and chill I just don't appreciate that type of service at all. We could have easily been regulars there but instead nope. I just felt not welcomed in that "home". So no thank you. But enjoy my cute pics. read more

After a couple of visits, I can highly recommend Casa de Julia. The food is tasty, and the service is both friendly and efficient. At our last visit, my husband had the beef enchiladas in red sauce, which he described as the perfect blend of spice and savory. I had the lengua en salsa verde. The lengua was incredibly tender, and the sauce was amazing. I tend to judge Mexican restaurants by their rice and beans -- Casa de Julia did not disappoint! I came here for the first time last week after reading a couple of posts on yelp and realizing this was a New Mexican restaurant that had opened up in the woodside area. I am glad I came to visit as I had such a fun time here, between the friendly bartender and dining locals. The bar area is spacious and has huge flat screen TVs with sports playing, they have an interesting selection of beers (they do not have their liquor license yet), such as the strawberry cider I had which was DELICIOUS. I have only tried their fish tacos thus far but I was really impressed; the portions were huge for the price and it tasted great! Huge chunk of fried white fish, shredded lettuce and sauce on warm soft tortillas with a glass of strawberry cider was the best decision I made that day. read more

I recently went to the grand opening of Casa de Julia, and it was a great ambience. I felt welcomed by the decorations and colors of the Mexican flag on the decorations. It was a warm and inviting atmosphere. Everyone felt like family. The owner came to speak to us and spoke about his hometown in Puebla, Mexico and was just super friendly. We had ordered the fish tacos, the chicken tostadas, cemita, and also the mole. The best thing on the menu was probably the mole and the fish tacos. Yum! I enjoyed the spicy tang of the sauce of fish tacos. I also thought the mole had a smoky and complex texture. I really loved the prices and felt this would be a great place for happy hour or grab a meal after work. I liked the pina colada and the sangria. It was a decent place to bring the family even the kids. I would definitely recommend to those who are looking for an authentic cuisine in the neighborhood. read more

Started out as a decent restaurant in the beginning however it has become part the same as all other mexican restaurants along roosevelt .I ordered the carnitas tostadas and was brought my food 1 hour later almost raw and uneatable , I complained and was told "thats how it is " i have eaten carnitas before and trust me jelly like pieces of meat is not how it should taste . They did offer to give me something else . However the waitresses lack of motivation made me feel like just leaving so i said no thanks . In the end i just ended up eating the other half of my wifes food. But when the bill came they made sure to add the food i didnt eat . read more

Went for my husband's birthday, worse decision ever. He initially ordered the pozole which was advertised in the menu, but they did not have it. He ended up ordering tostadas de carnitas. I ordered chicken tacos. We waited and waited for almost an hour. Then we see a guy coming out of a taxi with a bag of meat going into the kitchen. Five minutes later, our food comes out. My husband's tostadas with fatty, chewy undercooked pork. After one bite, my husband realized it was inedible. We returned the carnitas, I had to give my husband half of my food. When we got the bill we realized they had charged us for the carnitas, under "other" charge. We demanded our money back as the quality of food was bad but they did not return our money.
