Despite being right next to the 61st St stop, The Dugout is one of the lesser frequented Irish pubs in Woodside. It reminds me a time in the neighborhood when Irish folks were the majority and when times were so much more simple. This pub is low key, rarely crowded, somewhat easy to miss, and extremely local. The place reminds me a ton of the Courtyard Ale House in Sunnyside, from the exterior to the darkly lit interior with an intimate bar setup. They too had an outdoor setup during the pandemic. The bartenders are friendly enough and the clientele is a lot of older folks that drink alone. There are some TVs, which are as small as the pub itself. The drink selection is pretty basic with some bottled beer and some limited taps. Whether it's a glass of Stella or a pint of Guinness, it's what most of the place is often drinking. There are some TVs playing sports and no food that I'm aware of. The plus side is that the drinks are going to be affordable and there is vibe is the least pretentious in the area. If one is looking for a simple ambiance with a little sports and a lot of local vibes, The Dugout completely fits the bill. Indulge in the personalities and have a pint while playing something from their jukebox. If one is lucky, it might just be on a night where there's a little live music. read more

Fantastic Irish pub to grab a drink or a few. Since it was HH (Mon - Fri until 7pm), I decided to get the 3 domestic beers for $12 and my partner got a freshly made frozen marg for $7. Lots of TVs and the bartender was friendly and very talkative and attentive to everyone at the bar. She even was happy to change the channel on the TVs for specific events. Good time, funny people, bartenders always friendly and welcoming. Jukebox gets played nice and loud and they have multiple tvs that show 2-3 different sports - you can request games to be on. The Dugout which is located right off the 7 train on the Woodside 61 Street stop is a nice neighborhood bar. I have been coming here for a few months and have always felt welcome. The Bar is full of regulars who enjoy the camaraderie of their fellow Irish countryman, but welcome newbies like me. I like the no frills atmosphere were real men can enjoy a great pint of Guinness and watch some sports on TV. The Bar is heavy into soccer, but all ESPN, MLB, MSG, etc are shown on some nice HD TVs. There is always someone to chat with about the local Teams or some politics. There is a dart board which you can play anytime and a weekly Dart Team sponsored by the Bar. On Wednesday's they have free poker sponsored by New York Free Poker. This is a lot of fun and everyone is welcome. No charge, just have a couple of drinks while you play. Great way to spend an evening without damage to your pocket book. Charlene is a great bartender who will make you feel welcome anytime. Joe the owner, funny guy who runs a clean safe Bar. Close to the train, with a good basic beer selection and live music. Even though it's pretty small, they manage to fit a band in the place.

A good place to grab a few drinks while waiting on the 7 train to Citifield. Bartenders friendly great service .

I understand now why there are so many bad reviews of this place. So I'm in the bar having a beer when the bartender decides the song on the juke box is so great he has to crank up the volume to painful levels! I tried to wave to him to get his attention but he seemed more interested with his phone than service. I'm not coming back, ever. read more

Was always a little unsure about this place because of the gaggle of highly-lubricated folks that are always outside all hours of the day and night. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for getting my drink on but The Dugout always seemed a little fratastic - in an Irish way - and over the top. Turns out its not that bad at all. Popped in on a Sunday night for a beer while doing my laundry and definitely, well, dug it. Pints are $5 so they're a buck less than at the other Woodside watering holes. One of the best Irish bars in NYC. Real proper hot whiskey (hot toddies) in the winter and real frozen (not actually ice just very cold) beers in the summer. Always received a smiling face to greet me and always a positive experience whether it is slow or packed. **PLEASE, NEVER LEAVE YOUR DRINK UNATTENDED** I was here on Wednesday night, it wasn't too crowded of a place and was filled with mostly regulars according to the bartender. (Bartenders and management need to be keeping their eyes on the regulars then) I was here with my friend and her boyfriend, and the moment we walked in the regulars were making fun of the way we looked for the entirety of our stay. For some reason for the first time in my life, I left my drink unattended to go smoke a cigarette, thinking I could see it from the window. We only stayed at this bar for a short while and I had two beers. Some of the Irish men there tried to buy us a round and I politely declined. They swarmed me and started telling me I had nowhere better to go and nothing to do tomorrow and that I was going to stay. Things started getting creepy and one of the men started getting touchy feely so we immediately left. As I was making the ten minute walk home I instantly started feeling very sick, I had only TWO BEERS that night and suddenly felt like I had 15 shots and wanted to die. I blacked out right after leaving the bar and don't even remember making it to the bed or calling my boyfriend in the middle of the night to tell him what happened. I finally woke up with vomit everywhere and had the worst hangover I have ever had in my life, I physically couldnt move from my bed all day fearing if I stood up I would pass out. It was extremely scary. I spoke to a Woodside native who lives in my building and he's been hearing about this happening around in the bars in Woodside the past year- I wanted to post this here so everyone knows to watch out and please, please be careful. I'm very lucky worse didn't happen to me and will never leave my drink unattended again- it can happen to anybody even in a split second. I hope the creep who drugged me gets caught in the act and never does this to another person again. Please stay safe. The Dugout needs to know that this is happening right under their noses. read more
