Donovan's Pub was an awesome Irish pub and dive bar, and I loved everything about it! It had a really cool old-school ambiance, but still had enough TVs for everybody to catch the pertinent sporting events, and one of my friends absolutely loved the music video that they were showing on one of the monitors. While their selection of beers wasn't the most extensive, I did enjoy the IPA that I got, and they had a pretty wide selection of your typical bar foods, with my mozzarella sticks tasting exceptional. Finally, the bartender on shift was such a cool guy, and an excellent bartender as well! He was very attentive without being overly bearing, kind enough to chat with us about the surrounding area, and an excellent steward of the establishment! Overall, I loved my trip to Donovan's, will definitely be back in the future, and couldn't recommend it enough to anybody in the area! read more

I've been to the pub before, but its been awhile since my last visit. I still haven't tried their burger, which is one of the things they're known for and have even received an award for. I'll have to give it a try next time. They offer lunch specials during the weekdays, which is a nice option if you're stopping by earlier in the day. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and was surprised to see a large party there, so it was livelier than I had expected. The pub itself is fairly large with plenty of seating. Sat at the bar. The young bartender Christine was so delightful, talkative, efficient. My date arrived 30 mins later. By that time Christine had already engaged me in discussion with other patrons. So much fun. My date got the Irish brunch, I had to get the famous Donovan's cheeseburger (with sweet potato fries) Yum! So good! Christine kept returning to us to see if we needed anything else. In my youth I bartendered and waitressed so I absolutely appreciated the kind attention. By the time the two piece singer and guitarist arrived I was loving the musical vibe!!!! This is a Cheers-style bar where everybody knows your name. The crowd seems like it is comprised of regulars. Another Yelper and I had drinks at the crowded bar, which had multiple televisions airing professional sports. The crowd was fun; and the noise, moderate. The bartender made us two cocktails: a Cosmopolitan for my dining partner, and a Rocket Old Fashioned for me. My drink was strong and tasty. We ordered two hamburgers: The Jack (3/5 stars) and The Woodsider (5/5 stars). We also ordered the Shepherd's Pie (3/5 stars), the Baked Clams (5/5 stars), the Sweet Potato Fries (2/5 stars), the Onion Rings (2/5 stars); and the Bocci Ball (5/5 stars). I would definitely come back to try some other burgers. Their burgers are big, juicy and hearty--one of the best that I have ever tasted in NYC. I would also have the baked clams again. The stuffing was well seasoned and moist. My least favorite foods were the sweet potato fries and onion rings. They were both incredibly greasy, and the fries were not seasoned enough. I had to add a lot more salt. Jamie our server was attentive despite it being relatively busy. The food prices are reasonable for NYC. Finding a parking space was tough when we went--on 1/31/26, a Saturday evening. 1/31/26. Bar was jam packed on a Saturday late afternoon, especially with regulars. Christine was friendly, not the best cosmo, a bit too sweet. Had to wait for our drinks since she was the only bartender, which is bizarre considering the crowd. Started with the baked clams and the mini shepards pie. Clams were great, really flavorful but the pie needed more seasoning, it was too bland. We came for the burgers and they didn't disappoint, the bacon cheddar (best one) and the jack. Definitely the best burger in queens! The inside is larger than expected, don't be thrown off if the bar is crowded when you walk in. The servers are great and they have fantastic live music! I've had their shepherds pie and would definitely get again as an appetizer. That or the french onion soup. I've been countless times and every burger combination is definitely worth trying. Came here for lunch after the burial of my dad's ashes. This place has been here forever and the food has not changed. Constant delicious. Their baked clams are the best I have ever had. They come on a steaming black hot plate. The staff makes you feel like family. Service was outstanding above and beyond. We were a party of about 24 of us. All who like our beer and wine. Haven't been here in well Over 15 years. Came with my wife some friends. This place is known for their burgers and it was very good but I can't say it's the best I've had. I do like the nice homemade french potatoes they make. Wife and I split the Sheppards pie mini for an appetizer. This was delicious. I live in NJ and from time to time I like to visit Donovan's pub for a few beers and also because they have the best pub food in queens . Specially their garlic Parmesan wings . However I must say I was a bit disappointed with a few things yesterday 7/12/25 . I went in and specifically said I was opening a tab but wish to pay cash at the end and I was told that would not be a problem . So we sat there for about 2-1/2 hours and I feel like we had to look for a bartender because they were just busy carrying on a conversation with someone else . I get it you need to be nice but please pay attention to the other patrons . Aside from that at the end when I asked for a BILL , instead I got a CC receipt to sign . I was under the impression I was supposed to get a bill first and then decide whether or not I would charge my card or pay cash for it . One of the bartenders apologized to us and said the other bartender wasn't aware of the fact that I would probably choose a different payment method , but either way I asked for a bill and not a CC receipt to sign . I've been going there for about 7 years now and honestly I never had this issue . I must say it was a bit disappointing :( The place wasn't really that crowded so there wasn't really an excuse for lack of attention. #Sad :( read more

Finally made it to the famous Donovan's Pub for their burgers! The place is way bigger than I expected, packed with people, and such a lively atmosphere! We ordered online for pickup and had a 15min wait once we got there. Tried the Sebastian and the bacon cheeseburger - both were meaty! I had to take out the lettuce just to get a proper bite (personal struggle, not a complaint). The burgers were definitely greasy, but in the best way - it does not make you regret it after. I can see why this spot is such a go-to for Mets fans and casual goers! The food hits the spot and it's affordable, but it's really the atmosphere that makes Donovan's special. We came in for one of Queens best burgers the night of a Mets game that was postponed for rain-- so the whole kitchen and dining staff were much busier than they'd anticipated. We did wait for some time for a server. Hard to blame them entirely, but it is the only thing stopping me from a 5 star here. The Santo burger was incredible. Cooked perfectly as requested. Paired well with battery, homemade onion rings and excellent pairing. I'd also say if you're looking at the potatoes skins -- get em. Well come back here to try another burger. The space is very big and the hostess was nice enough to ask if we wanted to sit in a quieter area since near the bar it was louder due to people watching the game. All the staff we encountered were very nice and our waitress was very sweet. We started with an order of wings which were cooked well and the sauces had good flavor. Ranked best burger in queens so I wanted to see what the hype was about. It was definitely a solid burger but I fear the chatter about them losing the it factor may be true. It wasn't the BEST burger l've had but definitely up there. The mozzarella sticks were yummy. The pretzel was also pretty special (if it were the thing I was eating at a baseball game). Service was friendly and attentive despite it being decently busy. There's ample seating in both a dining room and bar area. It's not too noisy on the weekday we went. My old co-workers from a past life had a dinner at Donovan's Pub. We all tried their famous burgers and they have a good selection of beers! I had the Donovan with sweet potato fries. I ordered medium-well it came out just right for me. The burger was very meaty and larger. Server with some sweet pepper and a side of lettuce and a slice of tomato. Always wanted to eat here but never had the chance. Staff is welcoming and accommodating with food recommendations. Happy hour is great. One of the best burgers I've ever had. I couldn't pick fries over onion rings and she told I could do half/half! The candied bacon was thick cut and sweet and peppery. The popcorn shrimp was lightly buttered but to perfection and the tartar sauce was delicious. This spot was on a Top Burgers list for NYC. Was visiting a good friend who lives in the area and he hadn't been so we decided to stop in for a late lunch. Around 3, it was quiet with some at the Bar and a couple of tables. Throwback interior with wood accents-they don't make cool Pubs like this anymore. I was here for the Woodsider Burger-the Spicy Grilled Chicken Sandwich was also ordered. The Burger didn't disappoint. It's a Pub Burger-thick, juicy with quality ground beef and cooked a perfect medium as ordered. Bacon, Cheddar and I added grilled onion-Delicious and most definitely a top NYC Burger! Been to Donovan's twice in the past month after not going for 20 plus years. I had never eaten there, only had a cocktail, but kept hearing how good the burgers are. My first recent visit, I had a burger where I asked for caramelized onions with cheddar cheese and I think sweet potato fries although in the pic they look like steak fries. My date had a burger with raw onion and goat cheese (was he trying to send me some kind of message)? I got mine medium rare plus cause I love a rare burger but sometimes when you order them rare, they come out raw....it was perfect. We both enjoyed our burgers. Had some kind of espresso martini that was very bitter. The back room is quite lovely with the stained glass and fireplace. Very euro feel. Came back again last week, this time I ordered the Woodsider (I think), has bacon and cheddar. While my last burger was good, this blew it out of the park. I've been coming here for most of my natural life, and it never disappoints. While the burgers are the star of the show, the wings are also quite delicious. Went with the classic burger, medium, rare, steak fries. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, the meat is tender and delicious. Crispy fries and a cold pint of suds. The wings are plump and well done. The food is very average here, and I was underwhelmed. I think there are definitely much better burgers in NYC than the burgers at Donovan's Pub. Burgers come with a choice of fries or onion rings. I asked for onion rings but received fries which was disappointing. We had waited so long for the burgers already that I didn't bother asking to change it. Kitchen and wait staff seemed overwhelmed and busy. The food was overall okay, but I don't think I will be returning here. Service: Service was very average and very slow. The place was busy and maybe understaffed. Our server was trying her best and did come to check on us from time to time, but getting the food and even the check just took a very long time. Ambiance: The place is big with a lot of seating throughout the place. Good for both small and large groups. My family and I went after The Mets game. A first time for my daughter. They absolutely loved it. They ordered boneless buffalo chicken wings app and I had the old be bag o' Joe's fries in a bag. We've been coming here for years and recently brought family for dinner. We all ordered burgers, and my son and I asked to substitute baked potatoes instead of fries. When the check came, we noticed we had been charged $4 each for the potatoes. We asked the waitress to confirm the charge, and she said it was correct and the price listed on the menu. We then asked what's going on if we would have still been charged the $4 if we had kept the fries and simply added a baked potato, and she said yes. This pub is located in a residential area part of Woodside. Under the 7 Train on Roosevelt Avenue makes it a bit of an adventure to find street parking that is not metered. Taking the subway should be easier. This place has been here for quite a bit. The interior is dimly lit, but the bar area is quaint and nostalgic. I had been here once before and as memory serves, the burger is the goal. I got my burger deluxe, with steak cut fries, lettuce and tomato with pickles on the side. It was great to bite into a nice thick burger for a change, since many burger places are now serving up smashburgers. I like those, too, but there is nothing like a thick burger.
