This is a dive bar for sure , but in a good area by the Train and the Long Island Railroad, drinks average about $6~ $10 a pop. And they do take cash here! They have a pool table and a darts board here ! No food here , but your can bring your food here ! The girl bartender on Saturday night was real nice .and the bar is long . I know I know.. I've been getting a lot of heat since writing my first review about my first experience at Station Cafe. Perhaps it wasn't fair to base a review off of one experience, but sometimes that's all you get. And lucky for Station Cafe I've given them multiple chances and they've proven me wrong. The 2 major problems I had before were the smelly bathroom (haven't gone near it still), and the huge guy-girl fights I witnessed. And let me also point out that I am not "a woman who looks completely out of place in Woodside" and have lived here for 4 years, and I've seen a lot. I love a good dive just like anyone else, but something I do not approve of in ANY bar anywhere is to see women getting hit by men. Pretty sure THOSE fighty people got off the train at the wrong stop and were just plain stupid, haven't seen anything like that in Station Cafe in the multiple times I've visited since. In fact, I've had very awesome experiences. Getting to know some of the locals, playing pool (and kind of kicking ass), and saddling up at the bar enjoying Magners with excellent friendly service from Tony. The bartender in this place is amazing! I'd give all the stars just for him. He's extremely personable, friendly, and helpful. If I ever find myself stranded at Woodside at night, I'd come back again just for him. There aren't many late night bars open around the area, and out of the few that are, this is definitely the best one. Yes, the atmosphere is very divey and they don't have too much of a variety of drinks. But the service, at least, is top notch, which is a reason they have so many regulars. A lot of interesting people gather here, so just make the most of it if you are stranded in the area. It's cheap, drinks are strong, service is good, and the people watching is on point. Great. Freaking. Bar. I came here a handful of times over the years. Was never a regular and never felt like an outsider. The staff and the many loyal patrons are all fantastic. Since reopening after the NYC covid shutdowns I've popped by a few times for socially distanced to go drinks. First class operation even if it is an affordable "dive". Not as bad as it looks. We came in here on a dare. This place looks like the it would be voted "Most Likely to Host a Bar Fight" with its grimy windows from the LIRR tracks overhead and the shady gypsy cab drivers waiting outside. But we'd been day drinking for most of the day, so it seemed like a good idea at the time. Station cafe turned out to be very similar to other NYC dive bars. The narrow room, abused furniture and the small crowd of jaded drinkers by the bar is something that you'll see anywhere. The barely legal boys playing pool was a bit of a throw back, but the inevitable drunk and the probable prostitutes fit right in. By the time we were ready to leave, I was having a discussion with the bartender (who was Irish, obviously) about how limited UFC fighting was in a bar. So if you're in Woodside, don't be afraid to visit the Station. They won't fight you, but they will be thinking about it. Have fun. G read more

I love this place. It's what a bar is meant to be - no pretense, no ritz, no remote effort to cover up the fact that you are going out to drink yourself to an adequate level of sedation. I'd guess that Station Cafe was last redecorated around 1973, and even then it was just addition of a couple new posters to the walls. What I like most is that the bartenders are fantastically friendly, always remember your name, mix a mean drink and are eager to keep you drinking. This is definitely not the place to go if you are seeking multitudes of draft beer options (there ain't none) or lots of drink mixers from a handy spout (they use 2 liter bottles). It's just a basic bar of the variety that is becoming increasingly rare in this city. read more

A great spot to grab a drink and just hangout. An old school classic queens bar, bar tenders are great. Pool table for a game. The place has changed very little since I was a kid short of all the flat screens and a modern jukebox. It's also in a great location, conveniently placed under the 7 train and plenty of cabs across the street to take you where you need to go... Station "Cafe" has a special place in my heart. It's a dive bar and you don't see them in NYC anymore. It's dark, quiet and there is always a game on. The drinks are cheap and plentiful. You want a cosmo or a fancy mixed drink? Not the place for you. Go to Manhattan and party with the bridge and tunnel crowd. It's under two train tracks (the LIRR and 7 Train) but it's quiet. The bar tender is friendly and quick to strike up a conversation. I hope places like this stay open in this Starbucks & Purell world. This place had it's 15 minutes of fame in Entourage when Johnny Drama bought out the bar and opened up his own place. read more

Music so loud it's distorted, this dive bar is filled mostly with senior citizens recalling days when you could buy a quarter with a nickel.

I came here on a Tuesday after work with one of my work friends. We just wanted a comfy spot to chill with a beer or two and that is definitely what we got. I don't know that I would describe this place as a dive bar in the typical sense. It's just an old, Irish bar that feels a lot like the workers and other older Irishmen that fill it. It's a place that seems unaffected by time, with the exception for the yellowed papers and dusty bits around the place. The bartender Patty is a solid dude. Like someone else said, you come for a cold beer and maybe some whiskey, but if you don't know that walking in here, there's no helping you. It's also been said, but it's cash only. read more

"cafe" is a fun bit of hyperbole, but who cares! This place had always looked (from the outside) like the kind of place where a record would scratch if anyone female or under 40 years old walked in. Thankfully we gave it a shot and had a great time. There's good music, lotsa space, Tony took good care of us behind the bar, and one of the old timers even said he was glad to see young people there. Overall the place has a great rust belt feel to it that makes you feel like you're in Allentown or Erie or Akron or Rochester. It's the kind of place that you almost see in NYC but there it is, under the tracks; a smudge on the face of a diamond. I'm glad it's there. read more

Walked into the bar and sat for about 5 minutes before I was acknowledged. The bartender was eccentric and nice, but I be damned if there was even a splash of vodka in my vodka and soda. The exterior of the building is not welcoming at all but once you make the brave step of going through the front door you will experience service second to none in nyc. It's a "what you see is what you get" kinda bar. No bullshit. Just a really cool friendly place to spend a few hours chilling or socializing with friends. Its a bar you can go to and be yourself. Once Tony the bar tender gets to know you, you are a friend for life. What an amazing dude!! I spent a lot of great nights in the bar and enjoyed every last one of them. There are lots of glitzy, modern bars in woodside but this is the only bar with real character. I love the fact they haven't redecorated since the 1970's. The decor or lack of it is what gives it the edge. It's a real bar for real people. If you're passing you should give it a try, you may just be surprised. read more

I used to think was purely a Viet Veterans Bar and I always had a quiet respect when I passed it, but then a friend asked me join for a beer one day and showed me the old NY saloon feel of the place. Wow, am I glad he did. This was the definitive pub experience for us. Real Old New York Saloon Type Feel. with years of stains, abuse, and memories on the walls. The bartenders were friendly, the drinks decently priced, and the seating areas comfortable enough. We spent a good part of the afternoon one Easter week one day, out of the cold, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Aside from the bathroom door needing a new latch we could ask for nothing more. I've been to the station dozens of times in the past year and consider it one of the best bars in new york. I've never seen a fight or even an argument, the people there have always minded their business or been friendly. The bartender, Tony, is a phenomenal human and does a hell of a job. I went in here after a day out walking around getting to know the area. As a Brit it was perfect (i like to drink cider and they have magners in cans and bottles). the clientelle were not overly friendly but I think thats just nyc. the bartender was absolutely great (speaking from having been a bartender) and I felt welcome and safe throughout, despite having a pretty seedy looking guy sat next to me drinking round after round of guiness with a whisky on the side. The station Café is a great place of interest. Lots of good clients and a great variation of music and staff as well!! I am not fortunate to go their on a daily basis, but, whenever I am there I have a tremendous time! Also the neighborhood is a fantastic representation of Queens, The Irish, and New York.
