My sister has wheels so I hit her up and we hit the road. We ended up grabbing lunch but I want to return for brunch. I loved the old school aesthetic from the outside and all the details on the inside. THE BETTY BOOPSSSSS are the absolute best! I could not get enough. Didn't take too long for a table, maybe 15 minutes. It's popular for those who know. We got seated in the back. Out waiter was nice but new so there was a couple miscommunications but it was all good. He was in training. Judging by the people around us, they knew what they wanted. They came over and gave us pickles for the table. My sister was not a fan, so I did not partake. The father/son duo next to us got entrees but shared pancakes and the son got a milkshake. I think next time, I need to take their lead. I got a fish filet sandwich and my sister for a tuna salad sandwich with fries. I had potato salad but her fries were better. I've been anxiously waiting to eat at a classic diner since watching a documentary on Netflix a few months ago. I had several hours to kill on my way back to the LaGuardia airport and spotted this location just off the highway. Everything about this location screens nostalgia. Please keep in mind. This is a cash only operation however they do have an ATM machine by the restroom if needed. I started with an order of Diet Coke, which was served with a side of Housemade pickles. They were delicious. Since it was later in the afternoon, I went for the classic Jackson hole 7 ounce cheeseburger serve with steak fries. One of the juiciest hamburgers I've had in quite some time. I'll always have warm memories of Jackson Hole's monster sized burgers at the upper eastside location from my high school days. For a bunch of teenagers, the Hole was a splurge meal. I'm really glad that this JHole is still slinging the same 7 oz burgers in Astoria. This one looks a lot more like a traditional Queens diner with chrome steel exterior, counter top seating, vinyl bench booths and jukebox selectors at some tables. The menu is more diner-ish also, with breakfast all-day and a full page chicken sandwich menu to match the burgers. Plus they have soup, which I love and if the Soup du Jour is Split Pea, I'm all over it. We used to watch them make the burgers on the flat top grill behind the counter and they still do it this way. This was the original smashed burgers, as they put a giant meatball on the grill and smash it down with a cast iron bacon press. Then it's covered with a steel bowl to cook thoroughly and later, toss on cheese to melt and other toppings. Whatever happened to the Kaluba Burger? The Baldouni Burger with fried onions, mushrooms and cheese is a close 2nd, though I miss the ham on the Kaluba. If you get your burger deluxed, it comes with lettuce, tomato and thick steak fries. If you don't like your fries chunky, you can substitute waffle fries or even home fries. Chase it down with a nice thick milk shake and you've just absorbed your calories for the week! read more

Once again we were in the mood for some good breakfast or at least I was and my company wanted a turkey sandwich so we decided to go to none other than Jackson hole in Queens Astoria Boulevard. Our food came out perfect as usual. I had a short stack of pancakes two eggs over easy and some toast. And my friend had their turkey club sandwich which they really enjoyed. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating. Very attentive. Very pleasant lady. Made our experience even better. As far as the ambience, this place is incredible. The decor is beautiful. Vintage like the 60s. Like a old soda shop. It feels nice and warm. And they play the classics. So it really brings you into an experience. A fun one. The shakes are not as good as they used to be, but the burgers are still colossal. The breakfast is great too! One thing that has changed is there are no credit cards accepted and the only form of payment they accept is cash. This might be my new favorite diner. We stopped by on Saturday. The place was packed inside but there were seats outside. We opted to wait for a spot inside and it only took 10 min. The decorations are 100 - retro 50s style diner. Our server was very nice. I ordered the chipotle homemade veggie burger with a side of waffle fries. The burger was delicious! Usually at diners the veggie burger is a typical impossible or beyond patty, but theirs was legit homemade. They also have freshly squeezed orange juice and other great shakes and smoothies. This is a classic diner you may have passed multiple times within a vehicle, like me. It's not particularly close to a subway station, but it has its own parking lot. Stepping inside Jackson Hole is like winding back the clock. The employees are all super welcoming and nice. We were a big group there for breakfast, and they easily accommodated us. The kids in our party were enamored of the tabletop jukeboxes and selected a few current pop hits (a quarter each) for the whole restaurant to enjoy/endure. Speaking of quarters, be sure to bring cash since Jackson Hole doesn't take credit cards. On the food front, I ordered the guacamole omelette ($16.75), and it was filling and in true diner style, not bad. The eggs are served with your choice of home fries, steak fries, or fruit as well as your choice of multigrain, rye, or white toast or muffin. The home fries could've had more excitement in the seasoning and salt departments but they were all right. Everyone else seemed pleased with their choices. I wanted to come here based on an article on FB on diners. The place did not disappoint! The service was very attentive and the food was fabulous. I had the smokehouse bbq burger and it was so good. I also had fries with that too which were good. To wash it all down, I had a vanilla egg cream which was fabulous. I had a cup of their coffee which was extremely good! Anyway, I decided on the "Make your own omelette" which you choose 3 fillings - so I chose Spinach, Mushrooms & Swiss cheese, & Yum-Yum !! I have to admit, that actually almost didn't finish it - Almost, but I did in time - while my friend's had already just finished theirs . Anyway, it was huge & not skimpy with the filling's (& spinach & were Fresh & sautéed, & the Swiss was very cheesy ), the home fries were amazing as well, & I chose toasted buttered rye bread to complete the dish - oh & I just had to order a side of & country style sausage patties to share & as well no complaints - Oh, & I don't wanna forget to mention that their was very fresh, tasty, & gave me a nice jolt ..... Jackson Hole is near Laguardia Airport, just off of the Grand Central, and you've driven by it a thousand times. It's the place with the cool old sign that you've seen in Goodfellas or other things. What does that mean in terms of the food here? Absolutely nothing. There's parking in their lot (not much but enough) or on the street, which also has nothing to do with the food, but people like to hear about that stuff. Now onto the food. It's super fresh because the place is literally always bustling, the portions are immense. If you get a chance, take a look at the person cooking the burgers on the flat top. Those things are massive. And yet, he gets the patties perfectly done to your specs. Impressive! There are a number of topping combos that are on the menu, or you can pick your own. I know that isn't rocket science, but it's nice for some people who suffer from indecision issues. Whatever you choose will be piled on and fill you up (for at least one meal, maybe more) The service is attentive, and the whole experience is a cool throwback to when diners were actually good. The waitress was amazing and friendly, gave us awesome recommendations and accommodated to our needs! We really enjoyed the waffles, they were the perfect balance between fluffy and cake like, moist with a little honey and butter was a delicious combo! Jackson Hole has been one of my fave diners for many years now. I usually go for the super juicy turkey burgers and crispy, jumbo size onion rings. Today I had a breakfast date and I decided to actually try their breakfast food. I ordered banana stuffed pancakes with turkey sausage. Excellent all the way around. The pancakes were extra big, fluffy and brown with bananas throughout. They were served so hot that the little chilled butter pats, melted all over my stack of three, right away. The sausage could've been more brown and crispy but that didn't ruin anything. A really cute mason jar of milk with ice made it all go down very nicely. My portion was so large, I had to take half home in a doggie bag. I really did enjoy my first Jackson Hole breakfast experience. Can't wait to go back for burgers and shakes. read more

Yes, Goodfellas was filmed here. Now I can review this diner. The food is okay, maybe the burgers are better so I will not write this diner off just yet. The shakes have zero flavor and my French toast was over-egged. Perhaps the breakfast item to get here is the omelettes but I am deducting points for screwing up French toast. The eggs I had were good and the ham was fine. My server was cute and friendly which helped add to my experience but it was not life changing. Prices are very high for a cash only joint. That is backbreaking. It is also across the street from St. Michael's Cemetery, for those with a morbid curiosity. Therefore the restaurant is car friendly but not terribly far from the Astoria/Ditmars station on the N and W train for those that do not have one. I am open to giving this diner a second chance, but for now, three stars it is. No wise guy is going to change my mind. read more

These little mini pure beef "masterpieces" with tiny little buns. Spare me. The worst thing millennials have produced since stylish beards . Anyway, if you just want a damn good burger that's too big for your own hands and comes with real steak fries instead of these stupid little skinny McDonald's size fries-- or God forbid, artisanal truffle fries, head over to one of the Jackson Holes. So this dinner is really nice, very 60's feel, really nice and attentive staff. I had the southwest burger, it came with onions, tomato, lettuce, guacamole and pepper jack, the burger was very tasty, however, all the condiments were brought separate and so I had to build my burger, the patty was really thick, I ended up cutting some meat off because I couldn't fit all the condiments they brought for me, making it very messy and hard to eat. I think when it comes to this type of burgers, it's a matter of preference, some people would find this great cuz it was a giant burger, but I just found it messy and like I was wasting too much food cuz I got so many condiments, it's not like I can pack those to go lol.. The fries that came with it were thick but they were very good, I asked for a side of honey mustard and although the taste was good, it too runny, almost like water. Very busy Sunday brunch. In spite of how packed they were, we were seated in under the 15 min. wait they told us it'd take. Highly appreciate real wait time frame (unlike those establishments where they tell you it's a 20 min. wait and it's really an hour). Off the bat, big negative... I have never considered Jackson Hole a diner. I think this place is more a burger joint with an expanded selection. They serve multiple variations of the same thing. Unlike a diner in NYC, they don't serve Greek specialties, pastas or like a pot roast for example. I go there for brunch exclusively. Their food is "OK". I was not impressed by their home fries during this visit. Their decor is definitely pretty unique... especially for nowadays; with their 5-60s theme and very legit looking trinkets. Ate here again, today, and after a few years hiatus. And...I felt compelled to write another review. This place is a real gem...a diamond in the rough. First off, it's in a somewhat odd location, which IMHO just adds to its appeal. It's at the border of Astoria (Astoria Heights, to be exact), and right alongside the Long Island Expressway (LIE), with traffic heading to/from nearby La Guardia airport, as well as traffic heading to/from the Triboro Bridge, which in turns leads into Manhattan or the Bronx. So it's an interesting mix of drivers who are in a rush to get here or there. Further across from the diner, on the opposite side of the LIE, is a big cemetery...right alongside a highway. Classic NYC. Also, if you sit in the front half of the diner, and you sit facing 'East', you can simultaneously see planes making their descent towards La Guardia airport, as you eat. All or most tables have their own private little jukeboxes, that take quarters. And surprisingly, most of them DO seem to work properly. As soon as I made my music selection, some KC & the Sunshine Band, followed by Heatwave, immediately came over the speaker of the entire diner. ;-) The crowd there is a great mix of NYers from all walks of life, along with the occasional tourist. The staff there are fantastic. I feel so blessed, to be able to WALK to this place, from my apartment. I went with my family for breakfast. First, when I received my coffee there was lipstick marks on my cup. I ordered the Greek omelet, the feta cheese was two large clumps in the middle of the omelet. My daughter ordered a burrito with onions, peppers and cheese and received an egg and cheese burrito. My husband ordered waffle with fruit and two eggs, he literally received a waffle with one thin slice of orange you could see through, two blueberries and half a strawberry.
