Came in on a Saturday afternoon for dessert and seated immediately. Got the banana split with cookies and cream and pistachio ice cream and it was delicious. Real pistachios in the ice cream, rich and flavorful. Ambiance feels like a classy diner, would come back if i was in the area.
I have never been disappointed with the service, ambiance, or food when dining here. The vibes are classic. The restaurant is clean. I personally prefer the chairs as opposed to the booths but the booths add to the charm, especially paired with the barstools and tiffany-esque lamps with their name across the shades. I've known this place for its homemade ice cream and I highly recommend the mint chocolate chip with walnuts, chocolate fudge and whipped cream. Their food is awesome too and one doesn't need to ask for salt or pepper. They don't add it because they're aware of people's preferences and dietary needs. The food is always fresh and good. They're able to accommodate different meal requests. They have a huge menu so even the pickiest of eaters can find something. They have two unisex bathrooms, which are quite large, but since there's a door to get to the other two doors, it can be a little tricky. The employees are friendly and helpful. Payments are done at the front desk after eating. They accept cash and card. Happy eats!
3.5 Old fashioned diner and ice cream palor that has been around for over a century. Service was good but could be better. They have an extensive food and ice cream menu! We had a cheeseburger and pancakes with fresh fruit. While the pancakes looked delicious, it was served lukewarm. The butter would not melt. I wasn't fond of the batter's taste. Had much better. Tasted too floury. The burger was pretty good though. I ordered a burger that was way too big. Stick to the 6 oz. Buffalo wings and milkshake were also good.
As a kid, would walk past this place but would not go in. The only eatery for me was White Castle. Now I can get a big boy meal. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes with gravy. Now that's the ticket. The portions, as with any diner, are massive. I had a cup of New England Clam Chowder too. Unlike others I have had before, this version had less heavy cream, and I liked it that way. My only regret is no room for dessert.
I was in the area passing by searching for some brunch, the signage since 1897's caught my eye, of course it's no where near my time. I decided to go in, it was interesting looking, inside looked like a 70's movie diner. I was seated with a menu real quick by the hostess, the people where very friendly. The waiter took my order right away, I ordered the Romanian steak and eggs, since I was in the mood for brunch. Steak was done perfectly as I like it medium, and the waiter was also very attentive. The place made me feel very relaxed, food was great. I do highly recommend this spot, as I will definitely be coming back.
Perfect spot for spontaneous breakfast! I usually get the burger but today I wanted to try out the omelette. It was greattttt and the pancakes it came with was delicious. My boyfriend had the burger and it was also another great choice, I've had it before and it never fails. We sat at the bar and received great service :)
Came here for a simple meal with my family, and we stopped by this place. The inside looked nice and clean, and it had the usual look of a diner, which I really like. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash with Eggs over easy, and I chose the pancakes as my side. The eggs were juicy and delicious, and the Corned Beef Hash was a really good portion, with enough for me to eat about half of it there, and take the rest home to eat another day. The pancakes were fluffy, and paired with the butter and syrup, balanced my meal with something sweet alongside the savoriness of the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs. The service was great, and our waitress was always smiling and checking in if we were alright, so we never had to worry about missing something. After eating our meal, we also decided to get some ice cream there, and I split a Banana Royale, which had 3 scoops of ice cream, a whole banana cut in half, whipped cream, chocolate sauce (on the side), and two cherries. The ice cream was sweet and creamy, and an amazing way to end off my meal there. Overall, I'd love to come back here again!
Jahn's is a dying breed for sure! An "old school" soda/ice cream shop with the long counter seating with it's red leather swivel stools! This brings back memories for anyone that isn't.....25!! Jahn's has been around a long time, and I must say, this particular spot in Jackson Heights is quite the cool neighborhood! A lot of activity outside with the street vendors and quaint shops, but step inside to a time gone by for sure! Ice cream done well is their claim to fame and they didn't disappoint! The banana split was delicious with it's three large scoops, the bananas were fresh, but not so much that it had that "green" taste to them. The toppings were enough without having the ice cream swimming in the sauces. It reminds me of going into places like this as a kid and ordering a hot dog and fries, and of course, followed by some delicious ice cream creation!
Everyone should come for brunch, but more importantly, for the sundaes and the milkshakes and the ice creams! They've got an entire separate menu dedicated to just the desserts! I've been coming here with my family ever since I was a little girl, then on dates as a teenager, then to treat my parents to brunch - and thru it, all of Jahn's charm and hospitality thankfully remains now that I take my son over for a meal or a sundae ever so often. I especially love how nostalgic and quaint the diner still feels. Never change Jahn's!
Ate here today by myself on not so hot but rainy Saturday afternoon after my bike group ride. I had only ordered the banana royal ice cream and the 3 choices of ice cream I chose is strawberry, vanilla and chocolate and it tasted really good, sweet and delicious. The service there was also attentive and super fast. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time. read more

Located on busy 37th Ave. We walked by Jahn's one time and got reminded that morning so we went. There was a parade so cross streets were blocked and finding parking was more difficult. Meter or residential parking spaces around. Not far from Roosevelt Ave/Jackson Hts/74th St station hub. Loved the ambiance - like an old fashioned ice cream parlor/diner with the stained glass lampshades and dark wood/maroon upholstery. Narrow and long space up front, more tables in the back. Was full when we went but glad wait wasn't too long. 3 of the waitstaff asked to take our order, but the one who actually took it became assigned to us- was patient and kept returning to check on us. Our coffee was refilled a few times. Thought prices were ok on the menu but noted later of $1 more for egg dishes (i really should check the bill while there in case have questions). I did see a note at the cashier stating a $0.50 surcharge due to the egg shortage but this was when I was already paying. Large menu - breakfast served all day, to lunch/dinner options. Got a corned beef from the egg sandwich section. Portion was ok for me, corned beef a bit dry so coleslaw and pickle helped, fried egg overwell (wasn't asked how I wanted it). An order of Chocolate chip pancakes was big. Regular buttermilk pancakes can be picked as a side, instead of toast and hash potatoes. 3-egg Omelets - quite a few to choose from. German one had the hash potatoes already in it so can opt for pancakes. Was looking forward to some ice cream but disappointed when I learned the hot fruit toppings were not real fruits. Maybe will still order next time just to try. Ice cream menu needs more details. Had to ask what each section was about: Tummy Tickler =1 scoop, Double Double =2 , Large Tummy Tickler= 3-5 ; Banana split =2 , Royale =3 (so shareable!). Went old-school at Jahn's Ice Cream Parlor with my sons -- because sometimes a man needs burgers, breakfast sausage, and dessert that requires teamwork. This place is pure nostalgia -- wood-grain panels, vintage decor, and the kind of friendly service that makes you feel like you've been coming here since 1972... even if it's your first time. I ordered the Cheeseburger -- melted American, toasted bun, cole slaw & pickle. Simple. Classic. Perfect. A real dinner cheeseburger. One son went with the Western Omelette with home fries and breakfast sausage -- and I'm telling you... they might make the best breakfast sausage in NYC. My other son kept it classic: 2 eggs over easy, home fries, and breakfast sausage -- because real men respect breakfast... even at dinner. Then came dessert... Banana Split -- house specialty. Chocolate. Vanilla. Banana. Sprinkles. Whipped cream. Cherry. Basically a celebration in a glass boat. And because we clearly had no self-control... we added a Black & White Cookie too. Half chocolate, half vanilla... 100% gone in 30 seconds. Historic diner. Massive sundaes. Incredible service. What an absolute gem of a diner. Incredible atmosphere, wonderful waitstaff, and the absolute BEST Belgian waffle I've ever had. Everything I've eaten so far (working my way through the EXTENSIVE menu) is simple and delicious. Jahn's has become a staple in my life. Love this place! read more

The food is great if you dine in. Otherwise, you risk missing items when ordering through a delivery app. I've ordered a cheeseburger twice, and both times I was missing fries, lettuce and tomatoes. If you're not going to include the items, don't claim that the order comes with it. So stupid I have to contact support and possibly risk my reputation on the app due to the restaurant's incompetence. read more

Jahn's is that one old school place that most people have in their hometowns or neighborhoods. It's alright, there's really nothing special about it to me other than maybe some of the ice cream. I would never talk about Jahn's poorly though because it's a Jackson Heights staple and the people there are always nice. It's retro and a nice spot for the kids. Food is a little pricey for mediocre food but it is expensive rent in the area. I remember the food definitely being better a long time ago, and the ice cream isn't bad. Nothing special though, yummy banana splits however are yum. And DEFINITELY waffles with ice cream. Sometimes my friends or family go late just for a waffle with ice cream My favorite thing about Jahn's is on your birthday you get a free Birthday sundae. read more

Basic diner food but old school classic decor. I ordered the French toast with a side of turkey sausage. The French toast was pretty good but the turkey sausage was salty. The coffee was decent. Everything just tasted very okay but nothing wowed me. read more

Saturday morning, one of the few places in the area that could accommodate a table of four last minute. Comfortably decorated interior that's reminiscent of an old-school diner. Got seated in the back and was eventually greeted by a waitress. Fairly typical menu filled with everything you'd expect from a diner, as well as an eclectic dessert section. Settled on the German Omelette w/ Pancakes ($11.25) and a regular drip coffee ($1). Omelette is stuffed with a large helping of peppers, onions, bacon pieces, and potatoes - very filling and a good blend of ingredients. The short stack of three pancakes tasted fresh as they are super fluffy and served with some butter. Simple meal that was the perfect amount of food for breakfast. While our waitress was certainly friendly, it took a while for her to come around (busy day) and forgot one of the drink orders (not on the bill thankfully). Good place for the first meal of the day if they're not too slammed. read more
A 3.5 star review. Its basic diner food but it is a throw back to the old days of Jahn's when there was a chain of them around the city and you came for the ice cream. The breakfast are good but definitely have some ice cream if you want to feel the nostalgic. read more
