A little bit of the bar area

Visited the other night and was pleasantly surprised. I had the fried chicken wrap which was a nice size and tasty. Also had the dumpling beforehand and they were really good and crispy. The bartender, even though we sat at a table was really attentive and friendly. (No waitress, so the bartender took care of us). They seem like they had just finished a Halloween party for adults and kids, which was really cool and have off a really community/neighborhood feel. Really cool. They have a nice amount of TV's for sports viewing. I didn't realize they had a nice big backyard area and side area, definitely want to come back when it's warm to enjoy that. The decor is really cool with the front of a fire truck behind the bar and other fire themed items around. I did know the theme as I did see the Bar Rescue episode on this place several years ago. Overall a nice spot that is family owned. Go hit it up and enjoy.

Fried pickles...they gave me 11 pieces for $9

Finally got to try this spot after living in the neighborhood for over 10 years. It's a little out of the way from other bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. I wanted to love it but it was overall OK. I may try it again if I'm in that area but I wouldn't go out of my way. Fried pickles - Paid $9 for a sad 11 pieces! It was also too salty. Big Jack's Burger - Def a solid burger in the neighborhood and very flavorful. I didn't really taste the spicy kick from the ghost pepper cheese though. Fries were pretty good too though could've used more salt. Buffalo char grilled wings - my husband and I have tried wings all over the neighborhood and this was pretty average. It didn't taste char grilled to me but I'm happy they give you blue cheese instead of ranch Overall OK and may try it again though I would

I stop by here on a Tuesday, they had a tacos and a beer special for $10 today. But I was just here for the atmosphere, I sat at the bar and got the $4 colors lite draft . The bar is made very shinny , and parts are from fire trucks all around the place ! As you say by the Taps . You can see there's a fire truck windshield in front . I saw this place on a show called Bar Rescue! I didn't see anyone from the show when I was there . I wanted to see Bruce .. but maybe next time I'm here . I wanted to shoot a game of darts ! It has a spacious Backyard. And a patio on the side . Holds enough for groups here . Not far from the subway to get here there are 4 TVs in front . I like to come back here when they Buzy to get to know more people.

I saw this place on an episode of Bar Rescue and was really excited to visit a Makeover spot that was in the area and still open! We dropped by on a Friday afternoon so the place was not busy at all. The food was great, although they didn't have my first choice of dish. The high point of the experience was definitely the server who was friendly and made great substitutions. Unfortunately, although the cool decor (firehouse theme) was still there, the place seemed a little rundown. I might visit again but only if I happen to be in the neighborhood.

Great spot. Place is decked out with fire memorabilia and decorations. Awesome staff. They've got a nice patio and some darts. Grab a quick beer or hang out all night at Jacks!

I used to come here a lot in my 20s as an after spot. Fun place, good times. I didn't have food this time and can't remember getting food here before. It's a great casual spot for beer and a get together with friends. The service is friendly and attentive.

Favorite bar in the neighborhood! Great prices, great beer selection, so many indoor and outdoor seating options, darts, and occasional live music. They've definitely spruced up the ambiance in the last year.

I totally recommend Jack's Fire Dept if you're looking for a big patio to hang out in the afternoon, plus they do offer $9 for $20 Groupon deal which is a steal. We stopped by for some lunch and drinks on a hot afternoon. Beer selection wasn't the best out there, but good enough to quench your thirst. We were going to do the challenge, but since we had Thai food the day before, I guess our both ends are ready for anything spicy yet. We proceeded with two appetizers which were Burnt Brussels Sprout Chips (yum!) and Fried Calamari. As for entrées, we shared Ghost Pepper Grilled Cheese and Big Jack's Burger. Both items got some good kick of ghost pepper in them. Anyway, smoking is not allowed in the backyard, but you can smoke in the small patio on the side of the restaurant. Our waitress/bartender, Carolann was super friendly and attentive. I will definitely stop by again in the future.

We still come here pretty often for dinner or a drink, especially when it's nice out. Just recently brought some friends from out-of-town in and they loved it so much, they can't wait to come back. Beer/shot special is now $7 instead of $5, but it's still a great value. The Big Jack's Burger is still one of the best burgers i've ever had, no doubt that it's the best one in Sunnyside. If you want a great atmosphere, with a friendly staff, awesome food, and reasonably priced drinks, stop in Jack's.

I been craving for the best burgers near sunnyside so I went through Google type in as "best burger restaurants" in sunnyside. I clicked on the best 10 restaurants that had burgers. Some of the restaurant got me interested and Jack's fire Dept restaurant got me more interested in their burgers. I was greeted by a nice lady that worked behind the bar. She gave us the menu and gave us few minutes to choose what we wanted on the menu. I ordered the Jack's burger because on yelp I have seen great reviews on that burger. Also ordered nachos, and fries. The burger dish you could either get a salad or fries but I chose the salad. The burger was phenomenal! It had a little kick to it which I really loved about the burger. The fries were crispy and hot! Freshly made? It didnt felt like it was one of those frozen bags of fries. The nachos were okay nothing to complain about. The lady was very attentive asking how the foods were. I would definitely recommend to my friends and family. I would definitely come by more often and try other things on their menu.

They have a TV screen on top of the urinal :)

I been meaning to try this bar since its in my neighborhood and after seeing it in the show Bar Rescue. The bar it's nice and has a nice outdoor patio. I didn't get to eat just came for drinks and I just wished they had more than one bartender since it took forever to get a drink. It wasn't the bartenders fault she was working hard there were just way too many patrons for her.

They allow dogs in the yard - and they serve alcohol at the same time. Come on! Amazing staff, too.

They have other flavors as well. So far I've tried the hot honey, old bay dry rub, and of course the Buffalo sauces. I don't recommend getting Kerry's Way as a sauce, it's too sour. I highly recommend getting the hot Buffalo sauce, it's very flavorful. It's still a regular bar and has the same vibe as other dive bars. I haven't had alcohol here, but I'm sure it has everything. Service is consistent and the bartenders are all very friendly. They would also tell you that Plug Uglies has the best chicken tenders in the city.

While I had intended to leave a tip anyway, gratuity should always be at the customer's discretion. I was already slightly annoyed, but I chose not to point it out because I didn't want to create unnecessary drama. Additionally, we politely asked if the music could be turned down slightly, as the bar was relatively empty and the volume was excessive. In response, the bartender made inappropriate comments regarding tipping, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. I hope ownership is aware of the level of service being provided, as this experience reflected poorly on the establishment.

It's a pretty nice sports bar with large TV screens throughout the place so will definitely be on my list of places to hit up to watch a few games! What to make of this place?…read more When we visited in September (at that time), a wanna-be sports bar had just taken over the Greek taverna Blue Sea Taverna (before that, two iterations of Akrotiri). Both Greek tavernas had failed or gone out of business. So we were curious to see what changes had been made. When we entered, we were initially confused because the seating, especially the lounge seating, did not create a sports bar vibe. Even adding a bunch of TVs did not give us that feel either. Instead, our initial impression was that they were trying to convert an old Greek taverna into a gastropub, similar to other well-known ones in the area. And I should also add we had not been following the local news about the controversy regarding their name association with a World War II fortified bunker that was blown up at the end of the Second World War, and only read about the controversy over their name after we left, and on social media. Apparently, the owner(s) were most likely unaware of its historical context when naming their establishment. So we did not factor that into this review. Upon entering the Wolf's Lair, the seating was that of a modified Mediterranean restaurant. We chose the comfy seating looking out towards 29th Street and 30th Avenue. It had been raining heavily, and so we were just glad to be inside. Because our initial impression was that we were in a Mediterranean gastropub, we ordered lamb chops with lemon potatoes. The waiter, who may have been one of the owners, informed us that this vegetable was not on the menu; however, when our chops arrived, as you can see from the photos, we were indeed served lemon potatoes. We got what we ordered, which made us happy, and the chops were cooked to perfection. As we usually do not drink alcohol, beverages were not factored into our review. However, there was one thing we found a little strange and creepy. When we left, one of the employees, presumably an owner, insisted on coming out to help take photos. This was a little off-putting. Nevertheless, we got some good shots. In writing this review, we spent a lot of time deliberating our experience at the Wolf's Lair. We focused on the restaurant, service, food quality, and atmosphere. While the overall experience was excellent, we did not find Wolf's Lair to have a sports-bar atmosphere, but rather a family-dining atmosphere. On the day we visited, there was hardly any action at the bar, and most of us seated were into the food, if nothing else, with one family having a birthday party for one of their children. Overall, we had a good experience. Whether we come back to see if the Wolf's Lair becomes an actual sports bar, well, that's another matter.
