I haven't been to this bar in literally ages.. I must have been 21 years old in fact. I returned the other day with a group of highschool buds and was pleasantly surprised. It's got such an old feel yet is clean, well kept and run by gentleman behind the bar. It was busy but didn't feel overcrowded. I loved the modern jukebox- I put on old school N.O.R.E and the bar was jumpin! I especially appreciated that they had heineken zeros, another pleasant surprise! Loved this spot! Such a solid place for an excellent drink. By far, one of the most delicious espresso martinis iv ever had. That foam was so on point and delicious. My husband & I went there with our friends on Thursday night and it was semi-crowded. We picked a booth in the back and I totally enjoyed the chill vibe and decor -- gave me the feels like we were in a bar in the east village, but paying a few dollars cheaper per drink! I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but it's gotta be 4 for now due to the slowness. We should have just been sat closer to the bar and near the bartender. At least there's some popcorn served while one of us trying to get any staff's attention so we could order drinks! After maybe 20 mins or more, one of us had to walk up to the bar to order our drinks. Took awhile for them to show that we were joking at least we had free popcorn and walkout if they would just continue to ignore us. I had Prickly Cactus Pear Margarita ($10) which I really liked while the rest got Maple Old Fashioned ($11), Rosemary Maple Bourbon Sour ($12) and Smoking Bulleit ($12). We wish we could have ordered more drinks but the place got super packed as the time went by and no one had come for us. We would def come back to try other drinks though. Perhaps be back on a much a slower night since we aren't so keen on the forever wait. Cute spot with nice cocktails. My dad, brother in law + sister loved Maggie Mae's - I didn't enjoy my cocktail, but I think it's just a one-time thing. The bartender was really sweet and accommodating, so that helped enhance our experience. I ordered the blackberry fence hopper but it was kind of sour, so I asked for a simple syrup which helped! I think if I go back, I'd other the rosemary maple bourbon sour because that was DELISH. The pink lemonade drink is decent too, and my dad loves their old fashioned so it worked out. Maggie Mae's bar is a rustic old looking style local bar on Sunnyside neighborhood. It is spacious, dim lit and organized. Interior decor is a mix of rustic and divey style. It has two 20" tvs on the bar. Staff were attentive and professional. They have a Whiskey bar section (lower level) which is reserved for special events. Prices are reasonable and competitive. I ordered Bell's ale. There's a two beer minimum for ccard. A great place to chill and watch sports. And meet friends. Side street parking only. The #7 train subway is 1 block away. I rarely travel to Sunnyside Queens, so you know I came here for a special occasion. My friends boyfriend set up a private birthday event in the Whiskey Room downstairs and I was pleasantly surprised by the decor. It's no surprised that I'm a big fan of a dim light setting with lit candles around the room and this setting was just that. Big shoutout the Chel the bartender who was on point all night and a super chill individual. The cocktail menu is interesting as they offer some fancy signature drinks, but I was sipping on Old fashioned all night which I just couldn't enough of (until I actually had one too many). Around 10pm they have a DJ that comes on playing mostly hip hop with some other genres of music. I'm a fan of this place and so was everyone who attended the party. I would honestly travel all the way back to Sunnyside Queens to enjoy this spot again. Next time I'll give the upstairs a try as well as their food. If ever in Sunnyside and looking for a place to dance while enjoying some delicious cocktails, then this place is for you. read more

It was my 3rd time at Maggie Mae's. I went to the bathroom and came back. Sat down at the high top table and my hair was on fire.The server had placed a candle on the wooden ledge instead of leaving it on the middle of the table while I was gone. My long hair must have grazed the flame because I am short and at the same height as the wall, and caught on fire. My friends noticed it, but it caught very quickly and I burned a large piece of the front of my hair. When the waitress walked back to the table instead of being rude, I suggested to her that she should not leave the candles there because it's a fire hazard because it's on a ledge and aside from it being close to hair, it could fall from the ledge onto the floor or table easily. She said she's "so sorry" and removed the candles from the table. I hadn't ordered drinks but the two friends I was with had, so we asked to close out our tab. She asked my friend what her name was again 3 times, we wanted to leave because the smell from my burnt hair was unpleasant. Then my friends got the bill and noticed she had not comped anything... not even a single drink although if I hadn't caught it quick, my whole head of hair could have been ruined. I wasn't drinking so I understand why she may have not comped their drinks, but overall the bad experience, lack of customer service, and down right inconsideration for the situation was unprofessional and makes me question the people this establishment has working for them. Anyone would be upset if their hair caught on fire, I was not even drinking... but candles being lit around alcohol probably isn't the best idea. I addressed her politely once it happened. She put two candles on our tiny high top, when everyone else had one in the middle of the table ours on the ledge that I even saw her leaning on while giving orders to the bar... very stupid. I do believe Maggie maes has been fine in the past, but this was a terrible experience and the continuous lack of awareness from the server, to make us wait about 10-15 minutes before bringing us the check even though we told her what had happened. this is a bar at a fairly easy to find location in Queens BLVD, right by the train station and plenty of street parking available here. this bar has ID checks at the door so make sure to bring your ID with you , they also do bag checks and do not allow water bottles in, so make sure not to bring your personal drinks with you. as you come in you will notice that this is mostly a whiskey bar so plenty of choices here for those oak taste lovers. I drink sweets and they also had a selection of liquors for me and I was happy that they do have a little for everyone there. I went in a Friday night and I really liked it. they have 2 floors, the main floor or street floor is like a regular Irish bar, I didn't see any food being served but they do have booths so I assume they perhaps have food service at some point during the day but don't count on that cause I am not sure. there is no difficulty to find sitting here which is a great thing, we found ourselves a booth pretty quickly, here they don't have table service at the night time so open a tab at the bar and carry your drinks to the table to have your fun. downstairs is the restroom and the whiskey room where they have a live DJ and some dancing going on. also they have another bar down there so you can sit with your friends do a little dancing and drinking while not having to go up to the other bar for anything. overall my impression was pretty good, they have a great ambiance music at the main floor enough to enjoy the music and to talk to your friends without having to screen at people and if you want the loud music you can go to the basement floor, it is perfect. The greatest staff, coziest environment, and free popcorn. It doesn't get much better than that combo! Try the maple old fashioned or the smoking bulleit, either are amazing! Sometimes I switch it up and get a jameson mule or create my own concoction (as long as it isn't too busy). we were party of 8 and on walking into restaurant we had to wait to be greeted. the bar was empty but for one couple he back room which had a nice fire stove blazing. the restaurant was a little cold. we had silverware and napkins on the table and the waitress disappeared? 10-15 minutes later she came back and asked if we wanted drinks. sodas and waters were brought .. she then took our orders afterwich she brought bread and as an after thought came back and asked if we wanted oill or butter for the bread. she did n't ask me how i wanted my burger cooked!? the group multiple dishes from shepherds pie to chicken pot pie bbq ribs and chicken francais chicken amalfi. All the food was underseasoned little salt or garlic or peppper. i had the hamburger delux and ordered a side of vegetables. i had cut the burger in half and started eating it and got to the middle and saw it was raw! i called the waitress over and showed it to her and she brought it to be refired.... as an after thought i asked her if she could drop the burger chaqrge as it was a waste anyway. after the french onion soup i was pretty full. unfortunately the chef had already fired a new burger and she ran back verifying i wanted no pink in the burger! i got a new burger cut in half to check for pink which was half the size of the orginal burger with a small portion of fries. the restaurant doesn't accept charge cards of any type! i have found this to be a sign of business loss. overall it's not a bad place but the service yesterday was too slow. also not the front entrance has a full step up to go in. the bathrooms cannot allow a wheelchair to pass into them. handicapped people would have to be carried into the place and helped in the bathroom. read more

He was so professional with incredible ability to make a good drink to all our guests. Everyone was happy! Cozy place to go in the cold weather months with some nice dim lighting and exposed brick. The bar is long and the space is pretty narrow despite there being plenty of seating. Service was friendly and prompt. They had about 10 beers on tap, about 15 craft cocktails and some wine options as well. I tried a couple of the drinks and I was not super impressed but I do appreciate the variety. Not sure much about the food menu but seemed pretty generic. Overall a nice cozy vibe with a pretty average drink selection and ok cocktails. read more

Love this place! The cocktails are always delicious and well made. I'm also starting to try more of their rotating beers and each one has been unique and yummy: strawberry sour beer, an IPA with hints of mango and pineapple. Not much flavor, just tasted watery. They usually have a few different drinks on happy hour, but it can be a little confusing because they just asterisk a couple drinks, which can be hard to ID.
