Honestly I haven't been here since 2010, 16 years later I strolled in. The bartender was on point and quick with our drinks. They have a pool table, darts and good vibes. It was negative degree weather and the place was on point with the heat. :;Bathroom alert:: Look there is a waiting area before you get into a stall. The actual bathroom is so warm! So my exploration continues this is the first time I ever even heard or saw Veronica's bar once I walked in I saw that this definitely my type of bar the vibe was definitely awesome. To my surprise the service was such incredibly fast they had juke box atm they had everything that I love in bars and honestly it's such an awesome thing. And in Superball weekend they have calender and to buy a box if you watch the super and you love football then please I highly recommend coming to veronicas bar and playing and having fun maybe youll make some money. I don't think they're food here so if you are bar hopping like I've been recently then I recommend looking for place to eat before it but they do serve food for certain holidays and like i assume like Christmas and like thanksgiving and from what I heard also super bowl Sunday. If you are interested in boxes for the Superbowl I highly recommend coming to veronicas bar and have a good night for the bar is so chilled and so fun. read more

Came on a Sunday early evening and it was practically empty. It's very warm in there. One room has most of the bar seats and the other room has a pool table with a few seats. The bartender was friendly and chatted a bit. Law and Order SVU was playing on the tvs. Card minimum is $10. Drafts were only $7. Definitely seemed like a cozy neighborhood spot. read more

What a great neighborhood bar. Some friends and I stumbled into this place after dinner at Astoria Seafood. I realized that I have been to this bar many times in the past for a few "let's get the night started" drinks before heading deeper into Astoria and the place has not changed at all . . . which is a good thing The bar itself has a very old school NYC vibe to it (a few barstools and a random pool table in the back) . . . something that you are beginning to see a lot less of in NYC. The drinks are very reasonably priced, something else that you are beginning to see a lot less of in NYC. The other patrons of the bar seemed very laid back and on the chill. a cool dive bar thats just the right place for me as its not loud and no annoying ass wipes to deal with. what i like about veronicas in long island city is that i can go with a few friends , have a few lite beers , play pool in the back room , have a few laughs with the bartender, respect the simple old school irish vibe and decor and not feel rushed to leave. they dont serve food but i did notice a few folks at the bar have outside food delivered. what was supposed to be a hour visit after dinner at one of my fav greek food joints turned into a 3 hour hangout with the boys and time flys when having a good time is had. overall veronica's bar gets 4.5 stars on my yelp meter for not being fancy or over the top douchey. read more

Following a seafood feast at Astoria Seafood, a group of friends and I made our way to Veronica's to continue the birthday celebration. As pitchers of Bud Light (not recommended) and shots of whiskey and tequila flowed, a pint full of beer fell off the pool table, spilling everywhere. However, the staff was extremely understanding and friendly as it was mopped up, and we happily continued in our celebration. A great old-style New York bar. read more

This spot is full of interesting characters, but that's what makes this place great. They're all so welcoming, they make you feel like you're around long time friends. The drinks are good. Drink specials were great, quiet bar had a really great time. Bartender's friend would confront patrons about how much they would tip. It was inappropriate and really soured my entire experience at the bar. We gave the bartender an appropriate tip but yet the friend kept belittling us on how our tip wasn't enough. Pretty quiet for a Saturday morning, just the way I like it. A few regulars-some speaking broken Spanish, some slurring English already. Pretty good Guinness I would point out. Real Guinness glasses as well-which is the only way I drink it. Why would I have Guinness in a @&&)$ Budweiser glass? I don't like telling stories in my Yelp reviews but it's the only way to justify a four star review of this dump. Chauncey and I stepped in on a Thursday night for a few $3 Yuengling pints. The time was 8:30 PM. There were 3 people in the bar - a drunk Irish guy sipping Bud out of a wine glass, a drunk woman eating pizza and complaining about a variety of things, and a Santa Clause lookalike mumbling and probably also drunk. Eddie (the owner) was also there, sitting at the end of the bar and avoiding everyone. He was watching some sort of sixties drama on mute while every other TV showed the Rangers game. All three patrons would occasionally harass Eddie - just some friendly sass - and he would fire back at them, although I could never understand what he was saying because he was either drunk or Irish. The bartender bought us a round and we talked about hockey fights. The lone woman joined in, gave us two slices of her pizza and put about $20 in the jukebox. Every song she played was a jam. I was so impressed that I asked her to DJ my birthday party. She handed me a three page print out entitled "Songs To Play". It was a list of 200 songs that she had put together - and yes, they were all jams. I thanked her and she asked if I was from Atlanta. Long story short, this is a bizarre place with strange people. I don't know if you'd call it authentic, but it certainly isn't normal. I'd imagine that the crowd is a little different on Friday and Saturday nights, but then again I'm not sure. To compliment Nick K.'s review, I was also encouraged to go to V's with Chancey at a strange hour of day, 3 pm after a flight from Florida on a Thursday. To make a blurry experience short, 5 shots of Jameson and 2 cheap Yings to the face whilst we were the only 2 in the bar made me feel like an extra in The Departed, or a Ben Affleck look alike, which ever gets me to the Irish faster, I was feeling it. I dont know what kind of people go into this place after dark. I'm not going back to find out. read more

I don't go here often as I have to be in the mood for it. I would give it 4 stars for being one of the most unique bars in NYC. However, this is something in between cool under the radar dive bar and an old fashioned neighborhood bar catering to an older crowd. The decor is that of a very clean well-appointed Irish bar with a nice pool room and good jukebox. It has unique NYC touches with a little commemorative plaque of one of the people who died helping victims of 9/11. I also love the facade of clear blocks of glass and the awning - very cool and welcoming. So, I give it 3 stars ONLY as it is not a bar for people seeking trendy dive and featuring bands from Brooklyn and Queens. Maybe it will change maybe it won't - I know the owner's husband and he tells me he likes to keep it a low key Irish bar but he does welcome new patrons. Also, it can seem almost dead on a Friday night at 11 pm but then you could have a crowd at 4 pm in the afternoon, or they'll share some hot dogs and bbq with the neighbors and patrons on a warm summer afternoon. The patrons tend to be older with some small groups of younger people coming in to start the night or end it. Yet, Out Astoria has done their nights out here and young groups do a pitstop here and have a good time. The bartenders are great - Veronica works quick and is very professional. My other favorite is the Sunday night bartender. She told us how she was evaluating patterns for a new get-up as she made great tips whenever she dressed as Marilyn Monroe or another famous star for her shift. TO boot she is from LA! The prices cannot be beat with Guinness at $3 during Happy Hour and good cocktails. During my last visit, one of the patrons was a serious Bowie fan. I could tell when he rocked out to Bpowie's Queens Bitch and the bartender and he enjoyed Cracked Actor. And yes, the bartender buzzed us in as she said she was the only one manning the bar. It was puzzling as the area is safe, but I understand as a woman the extra precaution. So these are some of the quirks of the bar. So, definitely a must if checking out Queens. If you are visting NYC for your 2nd or 3rd time or staying in the hotels in LIC, definitely worth including into a trip to Queens as nearby are some good to excellent restaurants and further away museums, beer gardens, and a few salsa clubs. read more

A funny find really late at night in Queens. Never had I been to a bar where the owner lets you in and then closes the metal gate when you are inside... You begin to wonder. Then the bartender asks you to be quiet because people are sleeping upstairs. I wonder again, "but why did you let us in in the first place?" Interesting times in Queens, never a dull moment. Had a really great experience here on Friday night. A group of us had decided to go bar hopping to bars we'd never been to in Astoria - we had planned to try to hit 4 or 5, but we ended up stopping at number 2 (Veronica's) for most of the night. It was pouring, so that helped make the decision easier, but we were all enjoying it so much that on one wanted to leave. Definitely a place where it is mostly regulars sitting at the bar, but everyone there was very friendly to us. The bartender Susie was terrific - gave us a round of shots on the house and also recommended local restaurants to order in from. The owner also gave us a ton of Old Bay chips. $10 pitchers kept us happy most of the night. Decor isn't fancy - it's a neighborhood bar through and through but everything was clean. The only way you don't like this bar is if you go in expecting anything other than a great neighborhood place. Some dude called this place a dump. I don't think he's ever been in a real dump bar (or he's some foreigner/aristocrat). The older crowd keeps the place clean, with a bathroom you're not afraid to piss in for fear of getting an STD. Veronica's is where you go to grab a quiet drink with your friends when you're not looking for a crazy night, but still want to have a good time. There's seating, a pool table, and an authentic Irish vibe to the place. They don't do food, but the bartender said if we wanted we could have brought food in from somewhere else, a pretty generous offer. My buddy and I walked in around 8:30 on a Thursday night, sat down with the intention of having one beer, and didn't end up leaving the place until five drinks later around 11. The bartender had us laughing pretty much the whole time. When she wasn't tossing us free drinks the real estate agent sitting next to us was buying them for us. It was easily one of the most welcoming bar experiences of my life. Really you'd have to be a jackalope to leave this place and not appreciate it for what it is, a local bar with a good client-el. You almost can't find places like this in Manhattan anymore. Only in the boroughs, and for a place like Veronica's only in Queens. read more

This is my favorite bar in Astoria. I work on 36th st and my weeks are so much better when I stop by Veronica's after work for a whiskey ginger.
