If you're looking for a different take on sushi, head on over to Sushi on Me - where Thai flavors meet sushi. A great place to celebrate birthdays (but be warned: it's more like a party, haha). Sushi on Me is a sushi speakeasy located in the heart of Jackson Heights. They usually have 2 seatings per night and just a fair warning: it's cash only! As I mentioned before, it's like a party so be prepared for loud karaoke vibes, haha!

I came here for a birthday celebration as suggested by a family member, and was met with an absolutely fantastic experience--especially considering this was my first omakase-style dinner; I had no idea what to expect, particularly since I heard this wasn't what one would call "traditional omakase" as well. On entry, we made our way down into what was effectively a basement, with a staircase flanked by multiple pieces of well-painted art directly on the walls. Walking inside revealed a pretty cozy room with a seating area next to the sushi counter where you wait before you are called for your reservation, which did not take long in our case. The meal itself was (if I recall correctly) a 15-course affair, which included multiple forms of sushi including Otoro, Scottish Salmon, Scallop, Japanese Squid and Hamachi. It's difficult to think of any one particular dish that was the standout, as they were all quite exceptional--however, I would say I leaned towards the scallop and smoked salmon overall, particularly because of their great combined flavor and texture profiles. Throughout the whole experience, we were treated to some great music in the background (singing along is optional) and sake on the house to go with our dishes--a fantastic addition, as long as you can pace yourself, of course. Overall, this is an excellent place to stop by, especially in the case of special occasions; the layout makes the experience very intimate with fellow patrons and with the chef and staff themselves, making for memorable moments throughout the meal. I definitely can't wait to make my way back here the next time I'm in the area or for the very next occasion. Big thanks to Yammy, alongside the rest of the staff, for the fantastic meal and an even better experience overall!

Not a traditional omakase but fantastic regardless! The owner knows how to party. It feels less like dinner and more like being swept into a rowdy celebration where sushi is only half the fun. My favorite part was the coconut curry. I had two servings because it was just THAT good. Go for the fish, stay for the vibes, and don't be surprised if you leave with fuzzy memories. -AD

Heaven exists. And it's in Jackson Heights, inside Sushi On Me. We showed up early. No rush. No attitude. No "wait outside." They brought us straight in, poured sake like we were already family, and set the tone immediately: you're welcome here. Not tolerated. Not managed. Welcomed. The service is unreal, not stiff, not rehearsed, not performative. It's warm, open, confident, and completely locked in. From the jump, Chef Palm runs the room with the calm control of someone who knows exactly how good this experience is, and has nothing to prove. And then there's Sake Boy aka Egg. Pure energy. Pure hospitality. The kind of presence that turns a great meal into a night you won't shut up about. Always pouring, always moving. The sake never stops, and somehow neither does the vibe. The music is loud. The room is small. The energy is intimate in a way that feels rare now, like you didn't book a reservation, you got invited. Shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers, everyone in it together. And the food? I can't name a favorite. I refuse to try. There wasn't a single miss, lull, or forgettable bite. Just relentless execution from start to finish. This is omakase without the bullshit. Luxury without pretension. Chaos with discipline. I cannot recommend this enough. Stop everything you're doing and get here. Do not wait. Do not overthink it. Just go. If heaven has a soundtrack, it's loud. If heaven pours sake before you ask, this is it.

Excellent sushi! But beyond sushi, there is unlimited sake. The chefs are so entertaining. It is so much fun. It is a must try experience if you enjoy sushi and you're in nyc. Chefs constantly refill your sake glass. Great music, friendly environment. You can show up alone and start making friends with everybody else by the end of the night.

We couldn't have chosen a more unforgettable Omakase to enjoy with friends. The moment we sat down, the energy was absolutely infectious and the sushi chefs were incredible at making our group feel like VIPS from start to finish. The curated menu leaned more on Tuna, personally not my favorite but it was a big hit with rest of the group. I would love to see a bit more variety with Uni, Amaebi, Sake Toro, and a more Yuzu to brighten up the palette. A little contrast in temperature could've taken things to another level, since most of the dishes were served at room temperature. The Sake was generously flowing, the Music selection was so perfect that we couldn't help but burst into song, wave sparklers, and dance between bites. Not your tradition omakase by any means, but easily one of the most fun and memorable dining experiences I've ever had.

A young modern take on omakase. The vibes on point, the food was delicious, and the drinks were endless! We had so much fun eating, drinking, and vibing. I recommend this to people that enjoy omakase. The chefs were great and the server kept pouring. Will definitely comeback again

The vibes here are amazing and it was definitely a fun night overall, but I have to give it three stars due to the food quality. I came in knowing this wouldn't be a traditional omakase, which I was totally fine with, but the quality of the fish fell below what I would expect at an omakase-level experience. One of my pieces even had small bones in it (which is a fear of mine!) and made me feel uneasy about the rest of the sushi that night. The spot is cash only and reservations are easy to make online. They text you in advance to confirm your reservation, which is helpful. The entrance is a bit hidden, but once inside, the space has great speakeasy-style vibes. The servers are fun and friendly, and they do a great job keeping the energy up. Unlimited sake is included, which is a nice touch. The presentation of the dishes is beautiful, and the Thai influence comes through clearly in the flavors. Unfortunately, while creative, none of the pieces stood out in terms of freshness or quality for me... and the small bones really dampened the experience. That said, I think it's still a fun place to celebrate with friends if you're going for the atmosphere and social experience. I hope my experience was just an off night, and I do wish them all the best.

My friend brought me here to try this omakase. It's very different from the usual style, the Thai chef is incredibly funny, and the whole meal was filled with laughter. The food themselves are fairly standard, but the atmosphere is wonderful. The team took great care of us. If you're looking for a fun, happy experience, this is the place to come.

So this is a hole in the wall basement venue that looks like you're walking into a crime scene from an 80's movie about the city... on the outside. Inside is a small dark space with a few tables to wait at before you get seated at the bar with the up to 11 other customers. They have seatings every 1.5 hours. It's an omakase, so you don't know what you're going to get, but it's 15 courses and unlimited, decent sake... they also have wine if that's your preference. The can accommodate for shellfish allergies.. You really come here for the experience. The fish is good, some of it great, and couple of pieces even fantastic... but for the price, it's not what you'd expect of the fish... but again, it's the experience that you're paying for... and that is well worth it. This not a place to bring the kids or anybody conservative... language is explicit, but fun! If you want a more calm experience come for the earlier seating, the later the seating the wilder it gets... Hydrate before you get here, because you will consume plenty of sake... Bring friends for celebrations here. It's a party.

I would say this was an amazing sushi spot but the truth is the experience at Sushi on Me is SO much more than sushi. It's the music. The food. The vibes. The energy. The staff. The ambiance. Just go. Here's the breakdown: Vibes - the space itself is small and cozy. 12 seat sushi bar in a small underground den that you wouldn't know was there unless looking for it. Neon signs and exposed brick create a very cool vibe, not to mention a retro piano that will inevitably make its way into the night. Sushi - it's 15 course omakase and it's all stellar. The first 4-5 courses are culinary creations -- all kinds of deconstructed and reconstructed sushi bites with a wide array of flavor profiles and gastronomical techniques. Very awesome. All the fish is very fresh, and while there's so much going on around you, the fish itself is not to be overshadowed. People - the team here maybe is what takes the cake. A few guys from Thailand with amazing energy, infectious smiles and a clear passion for what they're doing. It's rare to find something like this - a team that serves you with genuine kindness and warmth. They are SO awesome. Shout out to woody and Mikey and sake boy!!! Music - well curated playlists are a big part of the experience here. Great music spanning a variety of genres. Really makes the night a lot of fun. Sake - all you can drink, so come thirsty. (And it's not dirt cheap sake that you might find at other lesser all you can drinks). Pro tip - come on a weekend and book the 9:30 seating. It's their final seating and so you don't get kicked out right after your 90 minutes as you do with the 3 earlier seatings. Because it's the last seating, it turns into a fun party after. Highly recommend. Love this place and the people and will be back soon!!

GOOD TO NOTE: - Don't attempt to walk in because you will be immediately rejected. - Make a reservation on Resy. [Even if you don't get one right away, keep checking. You might find one just days before.] - They do have a $50 cancellation fee for each reservation - It's a cash only establishment - Only street parking available - best to utilize trains - Unlimited sake - Don't be late! They are very timely. Better to be a bit early - they have tables on the side so you can wait. - Rotate menus on a several months basis. So if you are here from one week to the next, you might be trying the same exact foods. When everyone for a specific time slot arrives, you are moved to the counter seats and that's when the omakase starts. Your first dish is ready and the introduction begins. The food is really delicious. Each course is bursting with unique flavors. The whole omakase session is really a visual (eyes) & sensory (taste buds) experience. I've noticed that since the main chefs are from Thailand, they do incorporate Thai flavors into some courses, which was very unique for an omakase. The best thing about this whole experience is the overall vibe. It's super cool! The staff of this restaurant all try to keep the whole ambience light and fun. The staff are very easy to talk to, make jokes and keep the energy up. They play music so you can jam out while you eat. With the unlimited pour of sake, the whole experience is lit. It's really fun and makes for a memorable times esp if it's a birthday celebration.

This was a very fun dining experience! You feel very connected to the staff and even the other guests in the restaurant. There's so much going on during your dinner, just be prepared to be entertained and have a great time!

It's the kind of place that works for a night out with friends, a date, or even a small celebration. What really stood out was the presentation. Every dish and drink was brought out with intention and creativity. You can tell they care about how the experience feels, not just how the food tastes. It made the night feel elevated without being pretentious, which a lot of reviews online also point out. Food-wise, everything delivered. The jerk chicken egg rolls were a standout. They were actually real egg rolls, crispy and well-structured, not soggy or overstuffed like you get at places that try too hard and miss the mark. They had a nice kick of heat but were still balanced and enjoyable. We also had the guacamole with shrimp, which was lightly fried and really well done. The shrimp added great texture and flavor without overpowering the guac. The sea bass came out whole, which was impressive on its own, but we asked if it could be cut in half so we could share and the staff handled it perfectly. It was cooked beautifully and ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. Presentation again was spot on, and it tasted just as good as it looked. Drinks were solid across the board. Based on both my experience and what others have mentioned in reviews, I'd recommend sticking to the cocktails as they're listed on the menu. They're clearly well thought out and balanced. Trying to modify or reinvent them doesn't really add anything, since the menu drinks already do what they're supposed to do. Overall, The Newsroom lives up to the hype it gets online. Great vibes, creative presentation, strong food execution, and a cocktail menu that works best when you trust it. Definitely a spot worth returning to, especially on a weekend night when the energy is high.

They ask that you bring the full party. The mood here is calm and not as noisy as other resturants. This spot has 2 dinning areas. You pick from an ipad. The food here is the same quality and has not downgraded. The service here is pretty quick. When your time is almost up, they ask if you finish ordering. I love ordering their sashimi. Service here is great and if you pay in cash, there is a slight discount. I came during their lunch deal and it was ~$30pp for AYCE sushi. You get an iPad to order and you can order as much as you want, and they bring out your food fairly quick. We got a variety of their nigiri, a couple of their rolls, and tried a bunch of their appetizers. I wasn't the biggest fan of their takoyaki or their sushi pizza as I felt that it was mostly just flour and rice--with barely any sauce. On the other hand, their unagi fried rice was flavorful, their nigiri and rolls had an amazing fish:rice ratio, and their fried scallops were delicious. Overall, unbeatable deal and solid quality sushi. Would definitely come back!
