Seriously, this place was awesome from the minute we walked in. Everyone was inviting and our server Alex was one of the knowledgeable I've seen. Food was beyond outstanding and the chef even made a special menu for my 3 year old daughter. This is coming from a guy who's lived in Vegas and Cali for the past 4 years, and I've eaten in many decent places. This is on par with some of the better dining out west. Delicious! Amazing! Great and quick service!! We tried the ribeye which was seasoned so well and tender. Also the butternut soup was my favorite with fun presentation of maple cream apple salsa and pumpkin seeds. Polenta was also good. One of the biggest highlights was homemade brownie with caramel sauce and toasted marshmallow ice cream. Good atmosphere and very nice servers. Little bit limited on vegan options. My gf and I road-tripped from MI for her birthday. I chose this place online after I did a search and was impressed with the menu. We were NOT disappointed. The dishes were amazing: great presentation and everything danced on your palate! Brussels Sprouts rocked (the secret's in the fish sauce!) and the salmon was fresh, tender, and cooked to perfection. Tolon's menu offers some really fantastic family meals-to-go. We got 12 Fam members together and ordered the entire to-go menu - Lol- bc they all sounded so delicious that we couldn't pick just one! Apple Kale Salad, Beef Bourguignon, Duck Ragu Pasta with herbed goat cheese, N'Awlins Jambalaya, Coconut Curry Shrimp; and for dessert: Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Brownies. WOW! We called 24 hrs in advance so that Chef Matt Nolot would have everything ready for pickup before their busy dinner hour the following day. Each item came in a half tray aluminum deep dish pan with carefully prepared toppings for each dish placed in plastic to-go pint or quart containers so that they would remain fresh upon eating. *We like our food SPICY* so Chef Matt assured us he would make it "the way He as a chef would like each dish spiced" (which has nice heat!;) and then he also surprised us with a house-made Arbol & Fresno Chili roasted pint of hot sauce he threw in on the house so that we can add more heat to each dish if needed- how thoughtful and exciting that was for us?!! :) Each dish had many layers of flavor, we could tell a World Class Chef had created these dishes! Our family was so excited as we sampled each dinner choice: the Duck Ragu with Italian-cut,thick and holey, pasta shapes soaking up the incredible saucy flavors then topped with fresh herbed goat cheese was everyone's #1 favorite! The Kale-Apple Salad was crunchy and full of Umami- yummm; the spicy creamy shrimp curry was divine as well! And the Beef Bourguignon with its red wine infused herbaceous taste was absolutely-intensely-delicious.... and then the NOLA inspired Jambalaya made us reminisce of our past trips to that great food city... Happy Sigh: it was all such a positive gastronomic journey experience for our tastebuds and emotions which are all tied into the food we ate! :) The salted dark chocolate caramel brownies were just naughty;) HA! -the deep, dark chocolate flavor with a chewy, gooey, chew to end an amazing, fun meal together was 'The BEST'. Did I mention the amount of leftovers? Enough to freeze them all into smaller meals which reheated beautifully- Woo hoo! We probably had enough food for 30+ ppl, but for the price(~$55/$60 per tray of food; $30 for each tray of salad or brownies) it was Well Worth it!! Tolon is an absolute must-eat in Fort Wayne. We were fortunate enough to host a dinner after our wedding here, and our guests are genuinely still talking about the food. Between our friends and family we were able to enjoy the apple kale salad, brussels sprouts, and the French onion soup for starters, as well as the chicken, ribeye, and salmon for entrees. Everything was PHENOMENAL. Our videographer even posted about the food before sharing our sneak peek! Nicky was so helpful, calm, and flexible in helping make this happen, and we couldn't be more grateful for the entire Tolon staff. No meal we've ever had here has been less than exquisite. read more

A friend and I finally made it to Tolon for the first time. It was found it just as reported in the reviews. She enjoyed the Bok choy salad; I had the salmon sandwich. Both were beautifully presented and delicious to eat. The server was prompt and well versed in the menu options and their preparation. The atmosphere was perfect for lunch; a pleasant number of people able to converse easily. The growing season is changing so the menu will as well next week. Tolon has great food and a nice selection of cocktails. You can drop quite a bit of money here if you want, but you can also have a great meal at a nice price too. Wait staff have always been happy to give their opinion and favorite suggestions without trying to inflate my bill in the process. We had a party of six, reservations got us seated right on time. I ordered the duck fat frites with a basil aioli. One word: WOW! Addictive doesn't begin to describe it. I had the heirloom tomato and avocado salad. It was light, fresh and very tasty. For my entree I had a pork chop that was juicy, flavorful and very filling. My friends and I had a girls night out on Saturday. It has been forever since we've done this, so we all were looking forward to it. We ordered 3 appetizers to share between us. The brussel sprouts were wonderful and I think our favorite! There were five of us and we each ordered 2 drinks. The drinks were pretty good, the mule was my favorite though. We all ordered dinners which we enjoyed. Our server was absolutely great and attentive! I should mention that we had reservations made earlier in the week for 6:15 for a Saturday night. Two of us got to the restaurant at 6:15 and the other three arrived around 6:20 or so. Everything was going great until around 7:40-7:45 the owner came to our table to tell us that a party had been waiting for 20 minutes for our table and insinuated that we needed to leave. I couldn't believe what I just heard come out of her mouth. I've been to fine dining restaurants and I've never had this happen. We all thought it was extremely rude and unexceptionable for her to do that. So about 5 minutes after that we all got up after paying our bills and tipping our server very well may I add. Like I said before he was a great server and her rudeness shouldn't reflect on him. So saying all that, I won't be going back to Tolon ever again. read more

I forgot to do this review from January 17, 2018 during the Savor Fort Wayne event. Went on a Thursday and chose to do the event offerings. For starters the Duck Fat Frites were outstanding and the Cheese Fondue with a soft pretzel was delicious. I would return just for these two. Well, my wife and I both really like shrimp and grits and these didn't disappoint. The sweet potato "grits" was a unique twist. Finally, for dessert I had the oatmeal cream pie which was good and my wife being gluten free had the blueberry sorbet which she said was the best she has had. The atmosphere there was tremendous, really appreciate the fun vibe and energy. The Midwest craft brew selection was perfect and our waiter, wish I could remember his name was great, but that's what happens when you wait. I would definitely return. read more

My wife wanted to try Tolon. I was not feeling adventurous. Fortunately, and again, She was right. We had a great meal. I had the steak and she had the salmon. Both meals were excellent! On a Wednesday night they were busy. We were able to park on Harrison and got a quite table. As we entered I noted a number of local "movers and shakers" in the place. A good sign. The waiter was good/pleasant and fun and we had a nice long conversation with the owner. It's great to see to see the transformation of downtown Fort Wayne and Tolon is a good example of it. We are constantly meeting folks around town who have yet to try Tolon, and we always encourage them to do so without hesitation! This is another hit for Fort Wayne!! Of the downtown eateries I went to, all of them were pretty much a hit. This was no exception. I ordered appetizers and a couple of drinks, and both of them really hit the spot. The service was great, food was great. It was a little spendy, probably at the higher end of what I expect to see at a place like this, but compared to value vs. taste I did not feel like I overspent there. Had an opportunity to visit Tolon for date night. It has a great hipster vibe and is very warm and inviting. We had the bone marrow mac and cheese for an app, it seemed to get better as we ate it. Not sure I would get it again but an interesting idea. My wife had the warm apple cider cocktail that she really enjoyed. For the main couse my wife had the ribeye and I had the Braised short rib pasta. Both were really good with a couple simple flaws. My dish needed a different texture. Lots of smooth and creamy, a piece of crostini would have been amazing. My wife ordered her steak medium (typically orders medium rare) and got well done. Her duck fat fries were less than crispy. For dessert my wife had the smores sundae and I had the chocolate layer cake. Both were fantastic. Service was on point, my one bit of feedback was the waitress loved 75% of the dishes when she was talking about them. read more

This place surpassed all expectations! We stopped in for drinks and an appetizer and sat at the bar. We had excellent service. The atmosphere had a nice laidback vibe. The frites were so good! They had the perfect amount of crisp and saltiness. And the dipping sauce was a nice change of pace. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we came back the next day for brunch. We sat at the bar again. One of the same bartenders was working and recognized us from the night before. We had an excellent brunch! We enjoyed French press coffee, drop biscuits, mushroom toast, and Nashville hot chicken and waffles! All of the food was spot on! The drop biscuits were an amazing start. The crisp on the outside and the warm soft inside mixed with the butter and blueberry jam was mouthwatering! My husband enjoyed the mushroom toast and raved at how good it was. At the recommendation of the bartender, I had the Nashville hot chicken and waffles. This did not disappoint! The waffles were fluffy and had the right amount of syrup on them. They were topped with two pieces of chicken. I can't even put into words how perfect the rub and outside crispy layer of the chicken was to enjoy. And yet the inside of the chicken was moist and juicy! Even though we live 2 hours away we are already trying to plan another trip back. If you haven't been to Tolon, do yourself a favor and go. This was our third time dining here and have loved every plate we tried! Tonight around the table we shared the fried Brussel sprouts, pork belly and shrimp appetizers. For the main meals chicken and waffles (definitely try the homemade hot sauce), braised pork shank with heirloom beans, and veal chop with whipped cauliflower. Everything was fantastic - the braised pork shank was huge, enough for 2 to share. For dessert we had French pressed coffee and split the spiced apple cake. Fort Wayne has greatly benefitted in recent years from downtown revitalization, and from the interest in farmers' markets and the farm-to-fork concept. Diners now have numerous choices when looking for local establishments striving to impress with freshness, creativity and service. That being said, we were entirely underwhelmed by our visit to Tolon. The food was fresh and service reasonable but I cannot say that the preparation, flavor, or presentation justified the price. Our appetizer and both our entrees were bland. The "God's butter" appetizer certainly failed to live up to expectations. Entrees were ala carte, naturally. All told, we might someday decide to return here, but with so much fine competition in town, it probably won't be soon. It takes more than trendy ingredients and pricey offerings to impress an experienced diner. read more

We went after lunch hour no one was there. I had to ask 3 times for a drink. The drink was good but 3 times really. No one was there the place was empty. Placed an order for appetizer and guess what wait for it wait for it wait for it. Wasnt impressed. If the food is good the service is lousy so i could care less about it. After only a week of being open, everything went off without a hitch just as if Tolon had been open for years. Wine recommendations/selection were perfect. My wife, who I continually prod and ultimately fail to enjoy red wine, shared a Pinot Noir and loved it. That alone made me happy! Kudos to our server, Randy. (Extra bonus for having Zombie Dust. I died and went to heaven). We started with the Duck Frites. Most amazing fries I have ever had (crispness, thickness, flavorness, dipness, all were flawlessness). No exaggeration there. My sister and I both ordered the NY Strip steak. Over-the-top delicious flavor and perfectly cooked. The accompanied vegetables were delectable with inspiring flavor. You can tell Tolon means it when they say its ingredients are locally sourced and in season. I had every intention of taking pictures for the review, but each time a plate was set near me there was a Pavlovian response that lead to inhaling food. Next time I will try to go slower. No promises, though! My brother-in-law ordered the pork chop. It looked amazing (and that's all I can attest to...it was difficult to share anything due to our fallen nature and selfish desires). We did however manage to share the side of brussel sprouts between the four of us. It was a perfect amount. Continuing, in a race of pinnacle thoroughbreds, my wife ordered the best meal of the evening, the scallops. You close your eyes, put a succulent piece of the scallop in your mouth, let it melt on your tongue, and you would begin to believe you were transformed to an aquatic locale with the divers proudly carrying the fresh gathering of the day straight to the chef. Open up your eyes and a tinge of sadness creeps into your thoughts, because you are actually in landlocked Fort Wayne on a cold February evening. However, the moment you put another bite of the tenderly-seared mollusk into your salivating mouth, the day dreaming happens all over again. When things are this good you don't question whether to have dessert, you ask yourself how many desserts a reasonable person would order. Typically, my wife is begging me to order dessert. We fit the stereotype of male savoriness and female sweetness. Tonight, every single taste bud (even the sweet ones) cried tears of joy. The desserts of choice were the chocolate cake and crust-less pecan pie. I loved the chocolate cake, because I am a sucker for density and richness. My wife was enamored by the presentation of the pecan crust-less pie and ice cream. She loves all things in a mason jar. Presentation was amazing for the entire meal, but the flavor and preparation are the all-stars I chose for my team. Nicky, the better half of the dynamic duo with Chef Matthew (no offense Chef Matthew, it's the burden we bear), was so sweet and made her rounds to speak with guests at the tables. She shared that the investors tried to get them to open a restaurant out Southwest 7 years ago. They held off because they knew downtown was where they wanted to be and the timing wasn't right. Selfishly (there it is again), I could have been experiencing Tolon seven years ago!? Kidding aside, we are so thankful the heels were dug in and Tolon is now coming in to raise the bar for downtown dining establishments. Competition has been significantly elevated and those who choose to ignore will be left out in the cold with only a glowing Abita beer sign to show for. From my seat at Tolon, I looked across the street at the Abita beer sign and let the thankfulness for Tolon wipe away the memory of that awful experience in the dungeon below.
