My husband and I were passing through and decided to give it a try. Given that it was mid-afternoon, we were the only diners. We both ordered one of the listed specials, mine was the beef and noodles with green beans, potatoes and a dinner roll. My husband got the hamburger steak with the same sides. Everything came out hot and the flavor was spot on. Sometimes comfort food is just what you need, am I right? We ordered a slice of the strawberry rhubarb pie and a slice of the Dutch apple. Both were yummy! Our server was friendly and made sure we had what we needed. My only real negative was that it was a little chilly inside! I'd definitely bring a sweater next visit. read more

The Harlan Cafe has the best BLT that my mama and I have eaten. We ask for the bacon to be deep fried xtra crispy and it is so delicious deep fried. We rarely order anything else, although the rest of the food that we have tried is good, but the BLT is our favorite hands down. I would highly recommend stopping in to eat there. ​ read more

Stopped in Harlan's while visiting northern Indiana on a brief trip. Someone suggested we try it since it was open on Sunday. What an unexpected treat. When we went in there were lots of local folks eating there. Got mostly breakfast items. Everything was cooked to order and prepared perfectly. Felt like a good home cooked meal. Salad was very good. Onion rings were crunchy and not greasy. The fish looked good, was not greasy, but the one side was so tough that it could not be cut with a fork. I picked up the pieces and bit off bites with some difficulty. Waitress wasn't overly attentive. She didn't ask if we wanted dessert. She lost some money there. We treated ourselves to frozen treats at the Dollar General next door. The water here used to be nasty since Harlan's water has a strong sulphur odor. The water was good today, so they are either serving bottled water or they have a good filter. read more

Mediocre food, most of its canned or frozen, slow service, drab decor. If they weren't in a small town they wouldn't even be open I don't think. They have a captive audience. I think next time I eat I'll drive into town and get real food and quick service. The only thing this place has got going for it is it's convenient. If I keep having a terrible experience I'll quit coming here. Oh btw don't get seated in front dining room because it's freezing even with a light jacket on! read more

First I would like to say that I have been eating there for many years and have always liked the food. The waitresses are friendly and food is served fast. What gives me pause right now at eating at the Harlan Cafe is that I looked back into the kitchen and not one cook was wearing any face protection. We have a serious problem with this virus and the state of Indiana has issued wearing a mask. How are we protected if a cook should be sick and not wearing a mask. I may have to wait until I know this business is safe to once again eat there. read more

We'd made a stop in Grabill and were looking for a place to eat, and I saw a few reviews for this cafe online. We weren't disappointed! It was a late lunch on a Friday, so the place wasn't busy. I had the Frisco burger with fries, and my husband had the fish sandwich special with fries. It was all delicious! The portions were pretty big (the fries are so, SO good, but don't finish them---you'll be stuffed!) and the sandwiches were great. This is the kind of place to go when you want comfort food, for sure! read more

This is my first visit in about a year. It was pretty busy on a Tuesday evening, and the servers were a bit flustered. 3 in my party ordered the roast beef manahatten (cannot find too many places in Ft. Wayne that serve these), the fourth person just ordered a baked potato. The manhattens came out fast and they were good. However, 1 person ordered a cup of vegetable soup and it came out the same time as the manhatten - it should have come out first. Also, someone ordered the cottage cheese with peaches. Had to remind the waitress, and then she served it without the peaches. When this was brought to her attention, she said "oh - you wanted peaches with that?" It was a special that was advertised on the menu board - shouldn't have been a surprise that someone would order it. Also, the 4th person that ordered the baked potato - she is kind of picky, mind you. She said the potato overall was good, but was a little hard in the center. She said she could not bring herself to order any real "food" because of the smell outside the restaurant. Well - this is Amish country, and Amish have horses - enough said. Get over it. Food is good - I will be back for the manhatten. If someone knows another place I can get a manhatten- please let me know! read more
