My favorite restaurant in long island is Toku. I have tried the entire menu by now lol

Hands down one for the books. Great for a date night or good time with friends and family. Drinks were very good got the lychee martini and the mezcal margarita. For appetizers we got the shrimp dumpling and the fried dynamite shrimp both very well cooked and the flavor was bursting. Main dishes were fried rice omg one of the best it was soooo flavorful I couldn't stop eating. The seasoning wasn't overwhelming at all and everything blended well. We also ordered the wagyu steak it was super soft and buttery with the sauce so good. Definitely something to try if you love steak. The sesame chicken was very good as well had a nice crunch to it nice and hot and the sauce was perfect. Love the service and the ambiance of this place. Always a good time! read more

Food was delicious. I always go for the Chilean Sea Bass. They add mushrooms to the dish, that are uniquely cooked and very tasty. I always recommend the beef bar-b-q to people i dine with, and they are always happy. Lastly, don't leave without having the world's best Lychee martini. read more

Visiting my former hometown for the first time in a decade. Stopped for lunch. Cordial and quickly accommodating host. Simple, beautifully elegant decor. Server and runners quick on their toes. Started with pork dumplings. Delicious and crispy skin, seasoned meaty interior. Nicely done. Selected the Sushi/Sashimi lunch platter. Artfully composed. Chef's selections were good. Fresh fish and enough of it to be satisfied. An excellent experience. Not sure there is anything beyond the interior design that differs from any other Japanese restaurants that properly attend the quality and presentation. If I'm town, I'd certainly return. read more

My Valentine's Day brunch at Toku was a complete disaster. From the moment we were seated, the experience was nothing short of awful. We were crammed into a table right next to the busboy station, making it incredibly loud and disruptive. Servers and other patrons were constantly bumping into us. The atmosphere was chaotic. Plates were dropped with alarming frequency nearby, adding to the already unbearable noise level. The staff seemed oblivious to the mess and noise. We were forced to request forks repeatedly, as they were consistently missing from our table. To add insult to injury, the food was served before they even bothered to clear the previous plates. We eventually decided to take our food to go, as we couldn't possibly enjoy a meal in such a stressful environment. This was meant to be a special Valentine's Day brunch, but instead, it was a deeply unpleasant and disappointing experience. Mind you this is one of my favorite restaurants on LI and my boyfriend wanted to take me here and I was very upset this happened. read more

Fun venue, lively atmosphere. A nice mix of families, couples and groups of friends. Very attentive service and very large menu. We opted for sliders, pork buns, sushi, chicken veg soup and yakisoba. Weakest link was the pork bun- would definitely skip this next time. Sliders were fine and very filling. Great sushi. My daughter loved the soup and noodles. This place is beautiful. From the food to the ambiance down to the staff. One star off due to its unbelievable pricing. But everyone seems thought worthy. I may need to make another visit to justify a 5 star rating or if it is worth a visit. I have noticed though that the cuisine listed on the menu has given a lot of thought, it has unique preparation and ingredients on it. I started with beautifully crafted mandarin cocktails, the taste is magnificent. We tried its Kobe beef Riverstone bbq for our appetizer and the new experience of grilling your own meat with its cute little grilling stone added a pleasure to the dining. For our entree , we tried special rolls combo / sushi and each roll is fresh and delectable. To close our dining experience, we had the mouth watering apple tart with ice cream on top. If it weren't for the prime location, I doubt this place would get much traffic for business. Nothing is authentically Japanese including the executive chef. The sashimi is fresh and they likely washed the salmon roe a few times to reduce the saltiness until it was sweeter, but nothing is special about their omakase. Plus, it's almost blasphemy to call rock shrimp with a creamy spicy sauce "tempura". The staff was helpful with recommendations and seating upon request, but the menu wasn't as appetizing in light of its Japanese name and fancy decor. Skewered meat was too large to be bite sized such that you need a knife to cut the duck or chicken, which were either dry or over cooked. Overall, I wouldn't come back for $$ especially not at $$$$. They're charging as much as the high-end stores for food that lacks the artistry, flavor or branding to warrant the price. read more

Toku deserves more stars than it has. Let me tell you why. i've been frequenting toku for years now, as it's about a 5 minute walk from my house. I've been eating there for about 18 years now. Yes, it is expensive, Manhattan expensive, but it's located in Manhasset...at the Americana Mall, so I wouldn't expect anything less and neither should anyone else. The service is impeccable here, from the host, to the bartenders, to the bus boys and servers, everything is top notch. It's dimly lit, minimalist decor. It's modern and dark and vibey. The food has never once disappointed me, ever, in all the years that i've been coming. Some of the best things include their spicy tuna crispy rice, their edamame dumplings and shrimp dumplings, any of their sushi, nigiri and rolls are incredible, the lobster udon noodles are to die for and their pork fried rice is still the best i've ever had, it is otherworldly. Also their ice cream trio is great, they have some of the best black sesame ice cream i've ever tasted. Great date night spot or just regular dinner if you're looking to splurge a bit. They also have a great lunch deal which includes an appetizer, main and dessert for less than $40 read more

Came here for a weekday girl's night. Made a reservation the day before without any issues, but probably could have walked in as well. I have also been here a few other times for work gatherings. Overall a very fancy place as it is also located in a very upscale shopping center. The restaurant has a nice ambiance; it's dark, well decorated, very classy, great for a professional dinner. The service was very nice, waiters were attentive, overall no negative feelings about the service at all. We received the wrong flavor of ice cream for dessert from what we ordered and they gave us an extra scoop for free, which was appreciated. The food was pretty good, definitely a lot of varieties, so if your friends/family are of all different backgrounds and have different food preferences, this is a great place to be. We had the rock shrimp and it was delicious! Loved the creaminess of the sauce. The salads were very good portions, larger than what I expected, sushi was pretty standard. Overall, I feel that Toku excels in their ambiance and presentation more so than the actual food taste, which depending on what you get can be pretty standard; but the variety and environment are what draws me and my colleagues here all the time! read more

I've gone to quite a few sushi places across the island and NYC and although it was good I felt the price was a bit much for the quality. The ambiance was great the service was good. Drinks were good but definitely got slighted a bit on the alcohol. I wouldn't go back unless it was for a drink and something to share though. My husband & I came here for our anniversary dinner and we had such a wonderful dining experience. This restaurant is conveniently located in the Americana Manhasset shopping center with plenty of parking. Reservations are mandatory because of covid occupancy restrictions and the never-ending high demand. We decided to go for just sushi & sashimi-the large size sushi chef's combination, eel avocado and salmon skin roll on top of that. All the food was ranked in the top 3 in terms of freshest and tastiest sushi we have ever eaten. Pricing was on the higher end of the spectrum but you pay for the quality of the food. This is the top tier in terms of customer service because our waiter, Danny was as accommodating and flexible as humanly possible. He was always around and had a mind reading ability to predict our needs before we mentioned them. The decor was modern and clean with some Japanese caricature art hung throughout the restaurant. This was the perfect anniversary dinner and we would recommend this place time and time again. read more

I came for an impromptu late lunch on Saturday without a reservation and the hostess was able to accommodate us. The atmosphere was modern and sexy, and the food was delicious. For an appetizer we split the lobster risotto (we're still salivating when we think about it). For my entree I had the salad with green papaya and filet mignon, which was tasty and the beef very tender. My cocktail was the double espresso martini, which was crafted exactly how I like it- sans cream liquor, and it was perfect. The only draw, which can't be helped and isn't really a big deal, is that the crowd was uber snooty. I guess that's just what you get on the Miracle Mile, and that can be overlooked. We sat toward the back and everything that came out of the kitchen looked tasty and appetizing. I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning soon! read more

One of the dishes I ordered was the sesame chicken with water spinach (which clearly is read on the menu) so when I received it with steamed plain brocolli, I asked my waiter and he said oh we only serve water spinach with BONE IN sesame chicken and everyone just orders this one so I just assumed you would want this. First of all this is the first time I'm ever hearing of bone in sesame chicken at toku and why would just assume I want plain boiled brocolli Instead of water Spinach? Why didn't he ask me? I had such a nice outdoor dining experience by myself here. The outdoor seating is beautiful, with plants and fire lamps. Part of the seating area contains a cabana. I took the first available seat next to some shrubs not covered by anything and I was happy. I ordered the maki rolls. Two soft shell crab rolls and one California with king crab roll. It came with a good hot and sour soup with lots of mushrooms. The rolls were good, although probably not the best rolls I've ever had. Nice to have soft shell crabs in a roll though. The lobster salad is similar the one I used to get at Nobu: a de-shelled lobster, tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms, garlic chips-- I was in my glory eating this beautiful salad outside on a gorgeous fall day. My meal also came with a bowl of rice, warm and so satisfying. Yes, this was a lot of food, so I took the salad in a doggy bag and had a great late night snack later. I mean, in a place like this you kind of expect a lot of swanky decor, hip music, and good service - but the food should at least be passable! The sushi and rolls were underwhelming and the water spinach was actually snow pea leaves with old stems. For the pricing where most items are $30-$50 ($23 for shrimp dumplings!! $8 for rice! I have been to some places, where they prepare the Peking wrap but I prefer to do my own. The service was spot on with plenty of servers and busters. Very polite. The Crispy Rice was also delicious with a good portion of spicy tuna on top. The crispiness from the rice, the softness from the tuna, to the spiciness from the tuna and jalapeño; it's a great bite. Okay, they must use some special, magical potatoes from the Handcut Toku Fries. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside is an understatement. And the wasabi aioli was a unique accompaniment to the appetizer. The fish in all the sushi rolls were fresh and the rice to fish ratio was spot-on which is always appreciated. This place deserves 0 stars. The food is below average. A normal mom and pop Chinese restaurant could better appeal your taste buds. On the top of the food being mediocre, the drinks are subpar to say the most. I ordered sushi, I had to take a photo of it for the review because it looks so silly. I don't even know how the sushi chef let it leave the counter, but beyond alllllll of these horrible things, can you imagine the service is horrible? Not so much the wait staff, more the management and the man named Franklin at the front kiosk who must have a corporate shoe shoved up his bottom because he picks and chooses who he wants to seat first or seat at all. And after being called on it, tries to brush you off and act dismissive about it. I found it so funny, that as soon as I opened yelp to leave a review, the first bad review I saw stated MY SAME SENTIMENTS! I even called the manager who I told about my disdain for my introduction to the restaurant & proceeded to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO MAKE IT BETTER, back from his fake running up and down to look busy to show him our favorite employee as the first person you see in a negative review and he found it amusing. I found it amusing as well. I wouldn't return nor would I recommend anyone else to come here. There are much better options. Or go and experience mediocrity for yourself. We also had the lamb ribs, HORRIBLE. Fried rice with pork, bland with 5 pieces of a chopped pork Chinese sausage & the sesame chicken. I'm not even going to describe the sesame chicken. Just go to the nearest Chinese restaurant instead. Trust. My waiter Miguel was amazing. I really liked him.... Before I left, I spoke with the manager over everyone and explained to her my issues with what had happened that night. She seemed far more understanding that the first manager & I'd like to make that clear. I'd also like to clarify that my main issue was with Franklins disrespect and the people next to him at the time allowing it. The manager who was told these things did a lot in her power to help the situation, such as send me over a new roll which was was better than the first as well as comp'ing our drinks and one more thing. Although it wasn't about the money for me, I did appreciate this & will say that I would very well possibly go back and try other dishes in the future due to this. First impressions: Very swanky. Tastefully decorated. I can tell this is where all the "fancy folks" like to go for their sushi. My husband took me here for lunch while we were waiting on our appointment to upgrade our phones to the iPhone 13 Pro. The location is well lit, servers were polite and attentive without hovering too much. We really enjoyed our meal and didn't feel rushed (we arrived just before the lunch crowd and sat on the low lounge tables by the bar). The Noms: The food was very good. We had the Pork Fried Rice, which is a favorite of my husband's (he's been here once before, for me it was my first time). I really enjoyed the PFR since the cuts of pork had just the perfect amount of fattiness to it. The dish was well seasoned, It wasn't over-salted like a lot of places, which allowed the flavor of the pork to shine through. Definitely would order this again, I probably could have finished the whole dish by myself but we are trying to be mindful of portion control going into the new year for our usual new years resolutions, lol. We also shared the Wagyu beef plate, medium rare. The steak was good, the sauce was perfect as well. I didn't really like the frites that came with it. Too soft and starchy in the middle and not enough crispiness. I could have done with another side or more PFT (Hahah) all in all, highly recommend if you're in the mood for Asian but not take out. read more

Honestly I was expecting more from this place. Location alone led me to believe it was going to be really good but it was was pretty standard. Interior was really nice, classy, upscale Japanese lounge vibes. Plenty of seating, and the place was packed at 12:00 on a weekday. -Lamb Chops: 3/5, these were highly recommended by my friend who had eaten here before so we got them to start. They were good but nothing special at all. Flavorful but also pretty fatty. I probably wouldn't get these again. -Salmon Roll & Tuna Roll: 3/5, two pretty standard rolls but just mediocre compared to your run of the mill sushi spot. The lunch special was way overpriced (on brand for Manhasset) but $34 for 3 sushi rolls you'd get anywhere else for a max of $13 is criminal. Especially when they're nothing to rave about. -Edamame 4/5: you have to try to mess this up. Pretty standard, and a nice portion size. Overall, the experience was good. Am I dying to get back here or shouting from the rooftops that everyone needs to try Toku? No. I probably won't voluntarily come back but nice to know it's there just in case I want to overpay for decent Japanese ;) read more

Our sister-in-law came from the City to Manhasset to take us out to a favorite restaurant, one she hadn't been to. We suggested Toki for its unusual and tasty menu. She was immediately instructed to remove her hat in the outdoor seating area. We were shocked, embarrassed and insulted. This has never happened to any of us anywhere.
