    Banana Betty Parfait

This review is more like 3 and 1/2 stars and not three. This was our first time coming here. Reading the reviews, I thought I was going to be highly impressed. After dining here I was left underwhelmed, unfortunately. Came here early for our reservation on a Saturday evening. We had to wait a bit to be seated, but that was expected. It was super busy! The restaurant is very sleek and gives fancy vibes, but it isn't fancy. They had cocktail specials for the day. I ordered one of the ones that had gin in it. The waitress came back and said they couldn't make that cocktail because they were out of that gin. Why they couldn't make it with another gin is beyond me because it wasn't a special gin, but I digress. I instead got the $17 Strawberry Gin Smash which had ZERO strawberry in it. So weird and confusing. For my entree I had the Angel Hair and Chicken. It was just meh. Nothing to write home about. Dessert was a bit better. Had the Banana Betty Parfait. It was good, but nothing that wowed me. That was the whole concensus of the night. Just okay. Nothing spectacular. At the beginning of our meal, I asked for a separate check and she obliged. She brought out 1 check at the end. Annoying. Probably won't be coming out of my way to come back here.

We had dined here about a month ago as we were in the Port Washington area and decided to come here on a whim for dinner. Walking in, it does appear to be what the place was described, which is a cozy restauarant with a pub like feel. Lots of ample seating both by the bar area and larger tables in the back. I ordered the steak sandwich cooked to medium rare along with sweet potatoes. I do like the presentation and it being on a ciabatta bread but wish the steak were sliced thinner...very minor complaint really. My son got the meatloaf which came with broccoli and roasted potatoes. He felt the roasted potatoes were a bit one note and found the overall entree to be just okay. My wife got the cedar plan roasted salmon with brussel sprouts. Her one major complaint was that the brussel sprouts came out so charred and really mushy as it if was over cooked. All in all, we had high expectation but the food overall felt like 3 stars. However, our waitress that evening was amazing and often checked on this.

Nice restaurant. Prices a little high I think for lunch , but food was good, service was excellent. Soda was $4.75 and no refills. Cappuccino was $6.50 for a very small cup . They put a small bread basket on the table with butter and humus. They have nice divided areas for smaller groups , and separate area for private parties as well.

The pasta was good but it was a bit more on the dry side for me, if it had a bit more sauce it would've been perfect. I got it with chicken but it tasted like frozen chicken just cooked. The texture wasn't the best. And the mashed potatoes were a bit bland for me, probably wouldn't order that again. It was busy on Easter, pretty packed so it made the service kind of mid. Our server gave us our check and probably took another 30 mins to check up on us again to take the payment. But overall, the ambiance was nice.

Second year coming here for Passover special dinner and again we were highly impressed! Not only was the food phenomenal, but great portion sizes and great price for a Passover-style meal. Seder plate included upon request, haggadah included upon request. Basket of matzo instead of bread for the table. Our server Angelo was so nice, helpful, patient and attentive. 3 people so we each ordered different items. First course - matzo ball soup (the broth was SO GOOD!), potato pancakes, chicken liver pate. Main course - lamb shank, salmon, brisket. The proteins were perfect (I sampled each!) and the sides that came with them were all good as well. We were full for dessert so only had a taste of the sorbet and the coconut flan, took the chocolate mousse home. There is also a matzo smores option as dessert for 2 ppl to share. We each ordered cappuccinos. Note that Passover reservations fill up quick so we had to take an early reservation. Next year we'll try reserving further in advance!

Ultimately, our experience ended up right in the middle--some hits, but a few noticeable misses that kept it from being a stellar meal. The Highlights: The Coffee: Easily the absolute star of the morning! Rich, smooth, and brewed to perfection--it was easily the best part of the entire visit. The Atmosphere & Service: The overall setting is lovely, and the staff kept things polite and attentive throughout our meal. Where It Fell Short: The Drinks & Food: We ordered virgin mojitos, but the orange juice base tasted surprisingly flat and off, almost like it had been sitting out too long. The Omelette: I ordered a classic omelette, and while the presentation was decent, the execution was just plain bland. It felt like it was lacking key seasoning or fresh herbs to give it life, making the whole dish feel pretty uninspired. All in all, it felt a bit sub-par compared to the usual Roslyn dining standards. That said, brunch can be hit-or-miss depending on the day, and I'd still be open to coming back to give their dinner menu or other options another chance.

They start you off with some warm buns served with honey butter and they were GOOD. So good that we asked for more and then tried to stop ourselves from devouring them before our food even arrived. For appetizer, we ordered the crispy calamari. The batter was very light and the calamari itself was so delicate and sweet. You can definitely tell how fresh the seafood is and that stayed true for the rest of our meal. For pastas, we got the spaghetti fra diavolo containing lobster and shrimp. Again, the seafood was fresh, sweet, and tender. The pasta was also a shocker, not only was it perfectly firm, it had such a nice chewy texture. You can feel and taste how homemade the pasta is. Next, the rigatoni eggplant was our unexpected favorite. The pasta texture was even better with the rigatoni shape and the eggplant was not even noticeable, it blended in so well with the sauce. The ricotta on top was the perfect creamy addition. For proteins, the pork chop was very tender and juicy. The sweet glaze wasn't overly sweet and it really complimented the savoriness of the meat. The brussel sprouts on this dish were also outstanding. I love when a restaurant doesn't treat the veggies as a side dish! The branzino was light and refreshing, it was a really great balance to the other saucier dishes we had. The service was extremely attentive and so friendly. We stayed in the bar area as that takes up the majority of the interior; there are, however, some booths and a separate room with tables. Decor was simple - typical bar/pub aesthetics. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived so we had our choice of seats which was nice. The menu was more extensive than I expected. There's a selection of apps, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, soups, fajitas, and burgers - with several sections having a "make your own" option. I decided to go with a sandwich - specifically, the chicken pesto was speaking to me. This was grilled chicken with mozz, pesto sauce, and roasted red peppers on a roll. The sandwich was good - flavorful with all the components marrying well together. The bread was also soft enough that it broke through my bites; I was concerned being a hard roll that it would be too tough, but the consistency was perfect. I opted for tots instead of fries on the side which were good as well. Service was good - our server was friendly and food came out at a good pace. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the Barefoot Peddler. The food was tasty, and I wouldn't hesitate to return if I'm in the area again.

We were seated immediately in the room toward the back left corner where we were the only table occupying the space. In fact, as the evening progressed, no other diners/groups were seated back there, which was nice. We observed that although it was a Friday evening at prime dinner hour, the restaurant never got too full nor was the bar area buzzing. Again, it was nice that it wasn't so hectic in there, but we noted that as curious for a spot like this, on a Friday evening, and when the weather was pleasant. Starting with a high point: our server was really good. He was a very nice young man who let us know at the end of our meal that it was actually his first day on the job. While we could tell he didn't know everything about the menu - which is totally understandable given him being a new hire - he was kind, personable, and went above and beyond to provide excellent and timely service. As for the venue, it was nice although not upscale and that was just our speed for this evening. We loved having the room to sit comfortably at a setup that could comfortably seat 8. As for the food, it was decent although I wouldn't call anything I tasted fantastic. For apps, we shared 2 orders apiece of calamari, crab cakes, and lamb chops (6 apps total) with the chops being my favorite out of those. The calamari were small and didn't pack a lot of flavor but they were fried well. The marinara sauce that came with it was also fine but not remarkable. The crab cakes were a little mushy for our liking. For my entrée, I ordered the Lobster Rigatoni. There was plenty of lobster on top, the portion was more than solid, and it came out at the right temperature but the flavor again failed to really impress and was somewhere between "fine" to "good". For dessert, I ordered the chocolate lava cake, and I was truly disappointed by that. For starters, there was no gooey "lava" as the name implied, and the edges were dry and seemed overcooked. The flavor again fell a little flat and I didn't bother to finish it even though I am usually a huge fan of chocolate desserts. All in all, we had an enjoyable evening as a crew, but the food could be elevated a bit from a flavor standpoint. I would give the food a little better than a "3" but I think they have enough going for them that amping up the flavors could do wonders for their desirability and drawing more diners.
