Came here for dinner for a friend's birthday celebration. Place is located right across the Glen Head train station (if taking public transportation). Parking is available right outside the restaurant. Recommend making reservations. Staff was friendly and overall service was good. Complimentary warm bread. They have specials for the day - both appetizers and entrees - worth taking a look. There is a full bar as well for coctails. Menu has plenty of options to choose from. Appetizers: Shared grilled octopus and tuna tataki - both were good. French onion soup. Entrees: Linguine with shrimp and clams, french dip (very filling), blackened swordfish (a little gritty /sandy which made it) side: Brussel sprouts - very good...mmm. Dinner- Lobster Cobb Salad is on the appetizer menu but is large enough for a dinner portion. Light and refreshing, lobster was delicious. 10/10 The mains come with 2 sides. Filet Mignon with roasted cauliflower and brussel sprouts. Filet was very tender and well seasoned, roasted cauliflower was perfect. Brussel sprouts were okay, a little soggy. Overall 9/10. Brussel sprouts 5/10. Left hand drink was like a Negroni but with whiskey. 8/10 Mezcal mule like a Moscow mule but with mezcal. 10/10 Finally, dessert. Cookies. Do not recommend. They were the lightest, hardest, crumbiest discs I have ever encountered. They were hard and not in a crispy edge delicious way, like stale. The chocolate wasn't melted and the parts where it should've been melted they were burnt. 0/10 Service was attentive without being suffocating. Efficient. Ambiance was cozy without being too homey. This place is a little diamond. Not what you would expect accross from the railroad parking lot. The old fashions are very impressive, food is excellent and the service is warm and friendly. The calamari, grilled octopus and the Ahi burger made an excellent dinner. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at the Heirloom Tavern. We are not from this area and we searched "where the locals eat", and this was the first restaurant to pop up. From the moment we walked in we had a very comfortable feeling. Jordana, the hostess/server, was very welcoming and she made you feel like a local. Speaking of the locals; this restaurant had plenty! Jordana knew everyone who came in. Pete, the bartender, was also excellent! You could tell he also knew the locals. When they sat down he already knew what they wanted. Even the regular customers were friendly! Sean, a regular, gave us recommendations where to get the best slice and the best bagel in the city. Now to the food-- one word: outstanding! It's all made in house and from scratch. It was restaurant week and we took full advantage of that menu. The pumpkin in the pumpkin ravioli was like cream. The coq au vin was better than any we'd had in France. The caramel bacon bread pudding proved that bacon goes with everything! Probably our favorite local restaurant. High quality upscale food. Wonderful staff. Always delicious. Great drinks. My husband loves the sangria. We try to go at least once a year. During Covid they were awesome and inexpensive. Please consider doing the mushroom soup we had a few years ago again. It's is what made my son start eating mushrooms! Love this place!!! In a deep-rooted Asian culture, we often get brought up being a stoic. But I am a black sheep in that very highly considered a virtue. So now I going to honestly fan out a few words. The food we ordered earned 3.5 stars. After being a non-stopping cheerleader for two boys for the entire day (my best friend s son and mine). I was too inert to cook. I chose Heirloom where we didn't have to go through an ordeal of the notorious soul-crashing 495 traffic to enjoy a simple dinner. There were some misses but luckily most dishes we ordered were to our likings. Appetizers: Fried calamari: coding stole the thunder (3 stars) Guacamole: standard, corn chips could be a California grade if had thinner cut (3 stars) Bread: fabulous! (5 stars) Other dishes: Beets salad: very creamy goat cheese with right amount of crunchiness toasted almond pieces. Greens were clean and fresh. If you have sweet tooth, the dish could be a healthy mood lifter. (4 stars) Tuna burger: pleasant standard. Garlic sautéed broccoli rabe was good. I liked its natural bitterness. (3.5 stars) Grilled octopus: very nice veggie underneath the tender and flavorful octopus. (4 stars) Skirt steak: 3 stars. Baby ribs: a disaster of the night. Boiled and smothered into cheap bbq sauce. Horrible!!! (0 star) Sorry for being honest. Slider: miniatures did a carb guilty free magic. Lol (3.5 stars) Save the best for the last. Mussel: what a relish! the absolute star of the night! So, I needed a quiet place with Wi-Fi and food and drink to take care of some timely computer work related to my business (WiFi is a rarity up in and around Glen Head). I popped into the Heirloom Tavern and discovered a beautiful, charming, warm and inviting spot to pop open my laptop, eat, drink and get some work done. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. Though I did not have a full meal, I really enjoyed the French Onion Soup and the Scotch Egg. When I asked the bartender/waiter "How is the Scotch Egg?" he replied "sick"! That's all I needed to hear. By the way, the bartender/waiter (Pete) was awesome. He's pretty much running this whole joint with an ease and confidence that makes you know that you are being cared for and ensures that you are being served. I will definitely make the trek back out here to check this place out again. read more

As a long-time lover of The Brass Rail, I was excited to hear of another restaurant in their group. Located on the Riverhead-bound side of the LIRR in Glen Head, Heirloom Tavern is what I would call a hidden gem. We were seated promptly for our early dinner reservation of 5:30. The bar had guests seated apart, all dining on apps and entrees while enjoying a beverage. Our table was tucked in the back and there was at least 8 feet between us and the table in the corner. The interior of the restaurant is on the small side, and I could imagine what it once looked like, pre-COVID, with tables packed in. They have a significant takeout business, with family meal options, and throughout our meal I saw people from the kitchen running bags up to the table where takeout items awaited their pickup. The menu could be accessed via QR (one note to the restaurant: you might want to consider having the "guest" wifi username and password available to guests--terrible cell phone reception which made accessing the menu difficult). They also had a paper copy of it and a paper copy of daily specials on the table for us. We both wanted to try to the Scotch egg as an appetizer, looking to share it. Our server told us it was rather small, so he suggested ordering one each. He was right! The egg was perfectly soft-boiled, surrounded by fresh pork sausage and rolled in a delightful crust. The egg was sliced in half and served over a small, yet adequate, amount of sausage gravy. It was savory and the perfect beginning to our meal. We shared our two entrees, both of us wanted to sample as much as possible. Me: horseradish-crusted salmon, which came with two sides of my choosing. I opted for the mushroom risotto (I could devour a bowl of this!) and the asparagus with parmesan and truffle (notice a mushroom theme here?). Him: the bronzino, accompanied by roasted fingerling potatoes and sauteed mushrooms. Of the two dishes, I preferred the salmon, but it wouldn't be torture to eat the bronzino again. The sides were steaming hot and cooked perfectly. Risotto is hard to nail, and asparagus can be woody and bland if not approached correctly. We rounded out our meal with cups of freshly brewed coffee and decided we would come back. I also plan to try one of their family meals in the future. Wishing this venue continued success, and I cannot wait for the day the restaurant can be packed again, with smiling, happy diners! read more

Had to visit this place because a friend of mine was raving about how great it was. Finally stopped in on a random weekday & everything was great. It's a small place but the menu is very large. Everything was good that we ordered, started with baked clams which was $10! My husband had the salmon & I had the clam & shrimp linguini which was *chefs kiss* I literally ate my whole pasta & debated to order another one to go. The portions are a good size for one. Of course we had the chocolate cake for dessert which was soooo good! I will definitely be back. Everything was great & I wasn't mad at the check at all. Not quite sure what happened to this place. We use to go and dine either at the bar or table. We would feel at home, and the class of people was always great. Meaning, they acted appropriately and dressed the part. Food was always so fresh and enjoyable. The food was still good. Its been maybe a year since we had been back as its a drive. We arrived and the awning was all green and dirty. Just immediately felt differently. There was a table with kids sitting apart from their parents. The kids were loud and playing music off their phones or ipads. I don't ever blame this children, but you do blame the parents. I wish the parents would have said something and I wasnt going to. Its not right to do and put the kids in a weird spot. The parents were dressed as if they were at TGIFridays. Two dads had hoodies and one of them had shorts and flip flops. I mean come on. I do wish the staff would say something. You can hold that rule in place, and make it a better establishment. Not sure we will now be back. The entire feeling from the past was gone. If the restaurant will remain this way, then rethink the prices you are charging customers. Otherwise, change some things that are reasonable to change. My friend and I came here on a Saturday night. It was packed! I honestly didn't know there were many restaurants in this area so it was a pleasant surprise. This place was packed! And for good reason, it's a solid dinner place. The sourdough bread came out warm and crispy, just the way it's supposed to be! For my entree, I got the pork chop. Kind of tough but very juicy and flavorful! The entree comes with two sides and there are a handful of great options. I got the Mac and cheese and the green beans. The Mac and cheese isn't thick or creamy, it's very lightweight. The green beans were cooked perfectly, not too hard not to soft. We were so full we couldn't eat dessert, so that will have to be for next time. Overall, I will be coming back and I would recommend it to a friend! read more

This is a very unassuming place located in a train station parking lot. When you walk in you won't be wowed by the interior, however, the food will blow you away. Just like Brass Rail (the sister restaurant), the food is executed to perfection every single time we come. They recently had a lamb chop special that was the best lamb I've ever had. Other highlights are: the filet mignon sliders, the strazzopreti pasta, and just like Brass Rail, their ice cream! My friend had chicken wings we were at the bar) and said they were amazing - crispy fried delights! I had the lobster bisque which was completely on point. Then my friend had the beet salad (which looked delicious and obviously was as not one morsel remained.) I had a special- which came in two sizes appetizer or main course. Having chosen the appetizer size I was immediately disappointed after my first bite, as I wished that I had gotten the main course size. Really wonderful meal at Heirloom Tavern. We sat on their back patio which they've set up really nice for Covid-safe dining. It's a cozy patio with about 6-8 tables safely spaced out. As usual, the food was excellent. Their menu is large and diverse -- ranging from burgers to seafood to Pastas. Everything is cooked with care and comes out consistently delicious. I can't foresee The Heirloom Tavern becoming an actual heirloom in the food realm for myself and my family, but that won't stop me from coming back some time soon (gotta at least try for a "Regular" status, right?). As a birthday celebration for myself, Mom, and sis, the three of us (accompanied by dad and my girlfriend) spent a tasty meal here this past Saturday. Coworkers had been raving about HT, though they heeded warning to make a reservation, and so we did. That reservation is key because Heirloom is tiny. They have a quaint bar when you first enter complete with a few local taps (Garvies Point Prybil Ale for me) that give it that tavern feel. Turn around and you'll find a handful of tables running perpendicular to said bar. We had a lovely circular table all to ourselves, though we were literally rubbing elbows with some nearby restaurant goers because, as stated, it's quite tiny. Beyond it's physical dimensions, Heirloom's menu is a decent size. Bar plates, small plates, pastas, sandwiches, salads, entrees, and daily specials. Plenty to choose from. A small plate and a soup were shared five ways via crispy calamari and lobster bisque. The squid were tiny rings with three dipping sauces. Light and definitely crisp, living up to the name. The bisque was creamy with chunks of lobster in the middle. Different than what I'm used to, but still a quality broth. Moving on to the main meal I dined on fettuccini lobster carbonara. It delivered on scrumptiousness with a nice sauce filled of thick bacon pieces, fresh peas, arugula, and of course a healthy portion of the titled crustacean. It surprisingly wasn't too rich which helped me leave without leftovers. I dabbled in a few other ordered entrees (strozzapretti bolognese, goat cheese bacon burger, ricotta gnocchi) and all were awesome. For dessert, we split the beignets and the ice cream cookie sandwiches (choice of ice cream: coffee toffee and chocolate hazelnut). I thought the cookies would be softer, but did the job of any dessert-used cookie. The beignets weren't New Orleans level, but completed the meal in the sweets category. Overall, Heirloom Tavern put together a delectable meal. A tick on the higher end in price, though worthy of a visit if you ever find yourself in Glen Head. Who knows, maybe it'll turn into one of your edible heirlooms....if you can eat an heirloom? read more
