I was out on the Island running some errands when I suddenly felt a hunger. Since it was lunch time, I looked around and noticed Barefoot Peddler was steps away; it looked decent enough at first glance, so I headed in. BP is very much a no frills spot. We stayed in the bar area as that takes up the majority of the interior; there are, however, some booths and a separate room with tables. Decor was simple - typical bar/pub aesthetics. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived so we had our choice of seats which was nice. The menu was more extensive than I expected. There's a selection of apps, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, soups, fajitas, and burgers - with several sections having a "make your own" option. I decided to go with a sandwich - specifically, the chicken pesto was speaking to me. This was grilled chicken with mozz, pesto sauce, and roasted red peppers on a roll. The sandwich was good - flavorful with all the components marrying well together. The bread was also soft enough that it broke through my bites; I was concerned being a hard roll that it would be too tough, but the consistency was perfect. I opted for tots instead of fries on the side which were good as well. Service was good - our server was friendly and food came out at a good pace. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the Barefoot Peddler. The food was tasty, and I wouldn't hesitate to return if I'm in the area again. read more

This pub has great food and is a lot of fun! We went with a group of 8 before going to an event at the Tilles center. We sat at a round table near the bar, which gave us a little privacy and allowed us to be a little loud which no one seemed to mind since everyone at this restaurant was having a great time. The bar was packed and the energy was awesome. We all loved our food and the service. I can't remember our servers' name, but she was amazing! We never had to wait for anything and she was also a lot of fun. This is a great place to go if you want a fun, relaxed place with great food. The bartender is also awesome. He's funny, attentive and you can tell he really enjoys hanging out with the people he is serving. We will definitely be back! read more

I've eaten here a handful of times when I've been in the area. The food is consistently good. The atmosphere is fun and jovial- perfect for a pub setting. I love the memes posted throughout the establishment. They are great for a chuckle and create a friendly vibe. My recent experience was mostly good with the exception of a particularly long wait for our order. It was early afternoon on a weekday so I'm not really sure what happened. Also , why isn't the seal removed from the ketchup bottle before it's placed on the table? (See photos). All in all I do recommend. read more

I must have driven past The Barefoot Peddler at least 100 times and have never been here. Shame on me. What a great night. Just 10 minutes from my home and a really easy drive. It was busy and parking was a bit of a challenge but having a small car always helps. We walked into a very comfortable bar / restaurant. It ws the perfect place to meet up with some friends and catch up. After relaxing for a bit, watching the game and having a few drinks we decided on some dinner. Appetizer: Wings - These were great and prepared exactly how I like them. Nice size crispy wings with the perfect amount of a mild buffalo sauce. Dinner for me and friends: Chicken Pot Pie - This was amazing. I have not had a Chicken Pot Pie in a restaurant for years and this was perfect. Plenty of delicious chicken in a wonderful tasty-savory cream sauce with plenty of vegetables and potatoes. The flaky toping was perfect. Fried Shrimp - A healthy serving of crisp tasty fried shrimp Grilled Chicken - My wife truly enjoyed the sandwich and I truly enjoyed the second half for lunch the next day. We ate here for the first time prior to going to a show at The Tilles Center. The atmosphere was great, especially the funny quotes that are posted throughout the establishment. The food was awesome! We had the crab cakes and the chopped steak (one of the best I've ever had). We also had the bread pudding for desert. It was delicious. Our only issue is that the side salad was priced a bit high ($8.50), otherwise everything else was priced fair. If we are in the area again, we will definitely return. read more

I love their burgers and cookie skillets! The quality of the food is always great. The older male waiter is always great when he takes care of us but the younger waiters don't check in as often and sometimes I need a refill or I wait for a while just to tell them I'm ready for the check. We absolutely love this place and will definitely be regulars from now on! We started our evening with a drink at the bar, where Tommy welcomed us with such warmth and friendliness--it truly set the tone for the night. Once seated, we kicked things off with what has to be one of the biggest pretzels we've ever seen, served with a deliciously creamy cheese sauce--an instant favorite! For our entrées, we ordered the steak fajitas and the sliced steak dish. Both were outstanding--the steak was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the fajitas were hands-down some of the best we've ever had. Highly recommend this spot--you won't be disappointed read more

I used to go here all the time--about 15 years ago! It was fun, sitting in the seats that looked like barrels, etc. The food was always okay--never bad, but never great. I recently went to the bar to hang out on a Friday night. The bar scene was lively, and quite a few people ate in the dining area. I ordered wings and other stuff from the bar with many people in our party. I should have stuck with the drinks because the food wasn't good at all. It was greasy and not fresh, yet the prices were pretty high. I probably wouldn't go back anytime soon. The parking lot alone is enough to make me NOT want to return. It is a NIGHTMARE, with only about 10 spots available. So you have to park around the corner somewhere or across Glen Cove Rd and play chicken trying to cross all the lanes! Not my favorite thing to do after a few beers! read more

The first bartender we had, Tom was excellent. He introduced himself, was friendly and attentive, but at the shift change there were two bartenders who could not have been less attentive and one had to be loudly flagged down and then had a a sour countenance when we finally got their attention. For only 7 people at the bar and 2 bartenders to cover them it was pathetic. Sure bartenders can chat and visit with friends but they also have to check the whole bar and others besides whom they are speaking to. The food was a mixed bag; the fried chicken sandwich was very good, but the mussels were extremely salty and 4 of 20 were dead (who wants to gamble with bad seafood) when they were cooked so therefore inedible. We had to chase down some salt and pepper after our food arrived and were never checked on. Having worked in the industry I would recommended retraining the night bar staff. The bar was NOT busy but they were dreadful at checking on anyone but who they knew or were talking to. I normally tip at least 20% and we left 15% as it was so disappointing to have such poorly trained staff. They were either utterly disinterested or annoyed that we had inconvenienced them by being there. Having worked in bars for years when I was younger it was a disappointing experience and with prices being so high these days, you should get you something for it other than resentment for spending $100. Not a good way for the owner to keep their doors open. One of the three times we looked around to try and get service we noticed other patrons with empty glasses or not having been served. Granted, everyone has off days and maybe that was the case but then the other bartender should have picked up the slack, but neither seemed interested. I doubt I would ever go back and if I did only before 6. Money is too hard to come by for most of us to experience bad food and poor service when we finally do get to go out and treat ourselves. I did like going there until I had an unpleasant interaction with the owner. By mistake was given an appetizer that we did not order, told the waitress we did not order it as she was putting it on our table. Waitress said don't worry about it and left it. We started eating it. Then an older gentleman came to the table, took the appetizer away saying wrong order. I figured it was the guy that actually ordered the appetizer. We then asked our server who was that guy and the server says that's the owner. Server mentioned to the owner that we were asking about him so he came back to our table. We told him we started eating it and would have paid for it. He said he "threw it out". It was the strangest experience l've had at a restaurant. Two women out for food and drinks. Watched as multiple men were served first, both at tables and at the understaffed bar. No water, one menu, vanishing table service. First order of nachos liter last burnt black from being under the salamander, but then allowed to cool. This was delivered to the table with no drinks, no table settings. My wife had to go to the bar to re-order the drinks while we waited for nachos 2.0 Turns out we should have just refused them anemic cheese, canned chili taste, oddly sweet tomato... Sauce? With jarred salsa. Nothing fresh, no onions, cilantro, not even a single jalapeno slice. Drinks were fine once we got them But never again. read more

I've been coming to Barefoot on and off for the last 5 years and this place never disappoints! If you're sitting down for a pint to watch the game or sitting down for a meal with your family - this place has it all! The bar is pretty typical...lots of TVs and random bar games. Great local and craft beer selection. Staff is always very friendly and accommodating. The food is awesome here! Buffalo chicken pizza, wings, sliders, fried pickles and the burgers are some of my favorites. Any burger you pick here is prepared perfectly - I've tried a few of their burgers and have never been let down. It's a notch above regular bar food. For dessert, you MUST try the cookie. It's a chocolate chip cookie in a skillet with ice cream on top. DO NOT LEAVE HERE WITHOUT TRYING THIS!! Will be visiting Barefoot for many years to come! read more

We came as a large group of four families after our collective daughter's gymnastics practice was over on a late Sunday morning. We arrived just as the Peddler was opening so sitting was not an issue. We joined a couple of tables together for the adults and the children sat in a large booth just next to us. A good space for the a larger group of friends to hang out and get a meal and a drink. We adults asked four a spicy Bloody Mary and received exactly that. In some places, the mix is not so good, but here it was delicious. We had all sorts of things from the menu and not one was bad. Favorites were both the pretzel and the inside-out burger. I also really enjoyed the French Onion soup. Parking was a snap with the lot adjacent and we had no problem navigating that. Overall, we had a great time, the food was good and our server was a trooper with all of the various foods we ordered and the way he took care of our children so well. read more

It must be 15 years since I had been there, so yesterday we visited and found nothing had changed the decor was all the same, old but Pubby. We both ordered the Bison Burger and they were fantastic, a side of Onion Rings matched in taste everything was served in an appetizing fashion. Brian our waiter was personable, knowledgeable and very pleasant. Many years ago my Company had offices less than a mile away so we were regular customers and once a month when the Salesmen came for meetings than always preferred the Barefoot to most others in the area. Never been to an establishment where the place takes it customers for granted more than this place. Being the only bar in town allows them to have average food and awful service. Food for most of the table eventually came out after 45 minutes. For fast food type cuisine, not sure what took so long in the kitchen. And then took 20 extra minutes for 2 of the dishes to finally make its way to the table. Owner refused to apologize (server told us he was "figuring it out" - not sure what that means - it's not rocket science to make the food and then serve the food) and owner argued with us when we asked to remove one of the items that we didn't touch given the wait and we were ready to head home. Told us that we didn't eat the dish since we "were too busy picking on other stuff". Well maybe if food came on time, person would have eaten it rather than picking on everyone else's food. When people go to a restaurant together the novel concept of eating together (or at approximately the same time) should try and be respected as best as possible. When we told the owner it was 20 minutes after the rest of the food - we were told it was "only 15 minutes". Owner could have just apologized and acknowledged that the waiter botched the order and forgot to put in the 2 dishes. Incredible that this place has lasted this long but when you are the only game in town, I guess you can treat people like crap and get away with it. I am going to "figure out" another place to go next time. Won't be going back there and wouldn't recommend it to others. read more

Driven past a 100x and really wanted to experience running "barefoot". Nice lunch crowd and extensive menu for that time of day. There is seating on the non-bar side that looks like you are in a giant Barrel. Too funny. Attentive server and reasonably priced lunch menu. One to satisfy all tastes and palates. It was my second time at the Barefoot Peddler. My first trip was pretty bad. We sat in the restaurant section and paid way too much money for mediocre-tasting fancy bar food. My second trip was a whole lot better! My friends and I had come from taking our state ethics exam and figured we'd blow off some steam at one of the few bars open at 1130 AM. Our bartender was great. He checked in on us frequently without hovering, seeming to understand that our group was pretty self sufficient. Our waters were constantly refilled and he promptly refilled drinks when asked. We ordered cheese fries, mozzarella sticks, and fried pickles. I've never been a fried pickle fan but my friends liked them so I guess that's a good sign. They came with this nice orange sauce that cut the pickley taste. The fries and mozzarella sticks were delicious - bar food at its finest. Ordering at the bar also gave each food order a discount which was greatly appreciated. Our bartender took our group pic upon request, we paid, and were out the door around 130. Our 2 hours of fun cost 52 dollars for several drinks and the appetizers, so not a bad deal at all. The bar had several TVs playing various sports if you're into that sort of thing. Averaging out my two visits, the barefoot peddler is a fun bar (keep your shoes on tho!) but not a good restaurant. read more

Before there was Applebee's, before TGI Fridays there was the barefoot peddler. THIS OLD DINOSAUR ROARS ON ! Serving up great food, in a great atmosphere, with great service, and an great bar scene. No flair here boys and girls. You will find great and constantly updated American traditional good at a good price. This place has been around when my baby boomer parents used to go to nearby CW post. It's apparently still just as popular and has lost none of its character. The menu is always fresh, and evolving. The place is always clean and fun. You can sit in a booth shaped like a barrel for gods sake. Come on. Actually I have to admit, I often just go here bc I want to talk to someone privately, and calm down in one of these barrels with an alcoholic beverage. This place has all sorts of different specials on different days so it's worth it to give it a try sometime, even in the middle of the week. Worst place i've ever been to in my life lmaoo. waiter started off by telling us that if we misbehave that we'll get kicked out. that's the first words i heard from the bartender. after that, the bartender claims to have heard me say that my id is "real". what that meant, from me as a californian, was that my id was an official california state law real id. which meant the id could be used to travel. the bartender stated that "he heard me calling the id real, and he knows my type" . My id is a california real id, which is sanctioned in the nation and also used in the state to fly cross country?
