This is an American pub in Queens (mostly for locals) with the benefits of a good selection on the menu. The clams were the best part of the meal and the popcorn shrimp was nice. I had their famous blackened steak (medium rare) which was good but I would not order it again. It looks burnt and we eat with our eyes first but the sizzling pan was a nice touch. They forgot the mushrooms and fried onions I ordered on top but did not charge for them. The steak comes with a house salad and a side (I chose mashed potatoes which were good). My friend had a colby jack burger. We loved the fries but his medium well looked like a hockey puck and came on a sandwich roll not a burger bun?! More on him as I think medium rare is the only way. He tried my steak and thought it was good too. I had a blue moon. They refilled our waters once but it took a bit long as there was not an insane amount of customers eating at lunch, just a few tables and a full bar of beer drinkers. Stopped in here recently and I've got to say, this place really impressed me. The foods top-notch fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can tell they don't cut corners. I tried a few different things off the menu and everything hit the mark. Fillmore tavern has been a neighborhood joint for years and it looks like it. I had heard the burger is the thing to order from here. I went with it. The burger was cooked to my liking and had decent flavor. Wouldn't say it was anything too special. They did have good cole slaw. 1st time here after a few recommendations, specifically hyping the wings, French onion soup and the main burger on the menu, The Fillmore. Old pub/tavern vibes, nice crowd. When I walked in, I saw a plate of the baked clams and immediately smelled the aroma. Ordered a plate and it was just okay. The breading had a sweet flavor to it, so it threw me off a bit. I like the fact that they chop the clams, not many places bother. Also had the mozzarella and tomato crostini with a side of balsamic. The bread for the crostini was delicious and the balsamic tasted almost homemade but was delicious. The French onion soup was just okay. I don't know if it's because we got all of our appetizers and the soup at the same time but the cheese for the soup wasn't very melted, in fact there was no broil color from the oven, almost like they barely had it in there to bake the cheese. Broth was tasty but nothing spectacular. Ordered The Fillmore burger with Cheddar cheese. I could be wrong, but I thought I read on the menu under burgers that all the burgers come on a brioche bun. Apparently the Fillmore does not and comes on hoagie bread. My burger was overcooked, asked for medium and it was dry. My friend's cowboy burger was overcooked, asked for medium got well done and my friend was undecided what to order and the waitress suggested the steak tips sandwich, said "it's the most popular". My friend and I couldn't even chew the steak from her sandwich, it was also so overcooked when she asked for medium, came well done and CHEWY. Didn't even bother to take a pic of my burger. Recently moved to the neighborhood and this place has great food. I was going to get a bunch of apps at Applebees one night but decided come here instead. They have fresh food not frozen like Applebee's and it is a local spot. I much prefer supporting local than international corporations. Great, local authentic and small family owned business. Came here on a Saturday night and the place was pretty busy, but the service was on point. We started out with the stuffed mushrooms which were delicious and juicy, it was a delight that it was stuff with crab meat. For our entrées, we opted for two burgers and the grilled fish sandwich which included a large piece of a tuna steak. It was tasty and served with a generous portion of steak cut french fries. Prices are reasonable. You can't go wrong when you're looking for a small local spot for dinner or to watch a game at the bar with a nice beer and friends. I can't believe this place is down the block from my house and I didn't know. Granted I just moved to the neighborhood, but I can see this becoming a favorite spot. What a shame! We've visited Fillmore's often with great service and even better food; tonight 's experience undid the great experience we had had...we arrived for a late dinner a little before 9 pm. I will blame it on the young lady who served us "having a bad day" although there should be no such thing in the hospitality business...after taking our order it took 45 minutes to get our entres - a burger and I had the specials meal of grilled pork shop which came with a salad. Neither one of us finished meals... This young lady didn't come back to our table once to give any excuse or just say "sorry" for the delay...when we had finished packing our leftovers, I mistakenly (she corrected me without hesitation) thought dessert was included with my meal and asked her for a scoop of ice cream. We never complain, but this young woman's attitude when I gave her the bill with payment and said, you know when you keep a customer waiting over half an hour and one asks for ice cream - customer service goes a long ways. She looked at me with disdain, again never even saying "sorry", quite the contrary after saying "she didn't hear me asking for the ice cream - I must have said it too low", her last comeback was, "on Saturdays when you order dinner it takes half an hour to get your meal after the appetizers" (mind you, my appetizer was a Caesar salad, my hubby had none. We're not the types to expect groveling - the young ma who was doing an excellent job cleaning up & setting tables made small talk with us as well as the other young waitress, whom we have received excellent service from; this young woman's attitude and demeanor was a detriment to this great neighborhood tavern! I am new to Filmore's Tavern but I have visited about six times and I am on the road to making it a regular in my books. The atmosphere that includes the employees , the regular crowd and the decoration makes you feel right at home with how a tavern / pub should. They have three sections. A bar area with booth seating, the restaurant area and even a outdoor section I have not experienced yet because it is winter time. Every one that I have met from Courtney, to Donna , to Jenn have made the experience amazing. I recommend this place for a quick bite to eat, a couple of quick drinks after work or a Sunday funday of marathon drinking. Let me not forget about the kitchen and the menu! The sandwiches are a safe bet, filling and pleasing to the mouth. Don't skip the appetizers, though: onion ring tower (and accompanying sauces) should be given consideration. Mozzarella sticks are tasty, but overpriced for just six sticks. Meanwhile, the buffalo wings are a low-key stunner. Last night I split a 20 piece order with a couple of friends, and we had a delicious experience. They hit the table steaming hot, crispy, and super tasty. I consider myself a burger connoisseur. That being said, this place has arguably the best burgers in Queens, NY. Better than Donovan's, God bless that Woodside staple. Better than Neptune's. Better than your OG Greek diner. Filmore's burgers are hand packed, perfectly cooked (ask for medium rare to retain those juices), draped with the perfect amount of cheese on a the establishment's quintessential long roll. I pair mine with a bit of Mayo and BBQ sauce in each bite. This is the burger I think of when I think about the movie "The Menu." The service is personal, and the mood is one of old fashioned Queens camaraderie that is rapidly disappearing in this city. So come here, treat people well, and eat to your heart's content. When all the shops close at 8pm and there's nothing to do, there is Fillmore's with drinks, great food, and good times. When we walked in, we noticed we were the only black people. Nobody seated us but we grabbed seats right at the bar. Everyone there seemed to be regulars. Everyone knew each other. Everyone sat themselves. The bartenders spoke to their regulars. We were eventually greeted. We were offered food from their "buffet" which consisted of zucchini sticks and French fries but we didn't want any. The bartender had cookies from Lulu's which she shared with her regulars but didn't offer us any. Not a big deal but could have offered and let us say no rather then offering everyone around us except us. The food was nice and fresh. We got the beer battered onion rings and fries and 20 piece wings. The flavors were hot, garlic parm, honey bbq, and their signature sauce which is like a hot and spicy sauce. We got the honey bbq and the signature sauce. Both were good. Despite the food being good, I wouldn't go back only because I felt out of place. This place is such a neighborhood place, like it is the only business in the entire area since it is located in a completely residential part. You will only really know of it if you were told about it or if you live in the area, if you live outside the area, driving is a basically a must. Angus Burger- Certified black Angus beef hand formed, club roll, lettuce and tomato. The burger was kinda a surprise since it was served on a club roll, it was kinda like a burger hero, if you will. I really enjoyed the burger which I added American cheese, onions and mushrooms. The bread was nice and crusty and the burger patty had a nice crust which was great for some nice texture. The burger was surprisingly not messy to eat at all, kudos to the construction of the burger. Sweet Potato Fries- The sweet potato fries were very unusually cut but who cares since they were awesome! They had the perfect crunch and really good flavor. The sweet potatoes fries should be ordered. Angus Meatloaf- Angus beef and warm gravy. This was just OK. The meatloaf was cut into 3 thin slices, the flavor was good but not sure if I would get this again since it really wasn't all that exciting. My wife and I visit NYC from Texas pretty often and we like to visit different dive bars. The location, atmosphere, and drink prices, were the best we've had so far. Stumbled on this place in my quest to find wings in my neighborhood. Turns out that its not quite my neighborhood but it'll work. This place is a hidden gem and definitely an awesome bar Lobster bisque... that was one of the best soups I've ever had in my life. Omg!! They put their whole being in to that soup. It was such a great recommendation by the server. She also recommended the blackend steak. I was not of a fan of the steak. I feel like the blackened seasoning is actually what ruins the steak. Beef is such a great meat that it really doesnt need much manipulation. I really didn't like it but my steak was cooked well. My husband ordered the the corned beef sandwich..that was one wholesome sandwich. They managed to pack in so much corned beef that the sandwich was struggling to be held together by the toothpick lol they could do better on the bread but the sandwich was very tasty Overall, their food is good. I only remembered to take a pic of the wings as i was taking a bite in to the last wing. Their wings are off the chain. I really can't find any fault in the wings, they were really really tasty. I'll add a little note. I was was a tad uncomfortable because my husband and i were the only people of color in the restaurant. We werent treated any kind of way and the hostesss was extremely lovely and friendly to us but you know that feeling of not belonging? Thats what i felt during my entire meal.
