I've been here a few times before over the few years and I came here as a party of 5 for Mother's Day. Toku is part of the Poll group which have about 7 different restaurants. I had a reservation and was seated about 10 minutes after my reservation which was ok. They were very busy and believe it or not there were walk ins that did not have reservations. There were a few seats for 2 at the bar or in the front otherwise they were booked to 9:30 pm. They have a nice room and decor, there was a lot of children which is to be expected and it was noisy almost to the point of being chaotic. It was a good experience overall and I gave them a 3 although I would rate them 3.5 if I could. Past experiences were much better so I don't know if it was the fact that it was a holiday but it did not measure up to what I experienced in the past. I really wanted this to measure up or beat my expectations. I looked at recent reviews and most of the negatives were on the service and price. I agree that they are a little pricey although just looked in the parking lot at all the BMW's, Mercedes and Range Rovers and what do you expect?? This is a pricey area with a lot of people that are into brands. Just look at all the Chanel bags and jewelers the women are wearing. Lots of LV, Hermes and young kids were wearing Gucci sneakers. Lol. I found the service was the opposite of the poor reviews and was excellent. Amanda was very accommodating and made the meal enjoyable. The bus boy was attentive to the water and cleared the table quickly. My issue was the food. It was just missing something from my previous visits. It was good but did not wow me or meet my expectation. For appetizers we had Edamame, grill calamari salad, chicken skewers and the lobster tacos. Main courses were the Seared Salmon, Angry Chicken with Pad Tai noodles, Sweet Soy Marinated Skirt Steak, Roasted Lobster with noodles. They were all good but not great. Desert was the warm chocolate Brownie and Apple Tart. Overall service was a 4 and food was a 3 this time. What I did not like was that the manager was active and only greeted the regulars he knew. On a day like Mothers Day everyone should be wishing the women a happy Mother's Day amd maybe give out a rose to each. We were not greeted by the manager or made to feel special. It wasn't a bad experience just did not meet my expectation or past experience. I'm on the fence if I will come back. If I had not been here before it would be a definite "no " on coming back. I went here for the first time a few weeks ago and was really really impressed. I've always heard good things but thought the food may be overhyped (and probably overpriced), but I was pleasantly surprised. The drinks were great and I don't think you can go wrong with their cocktail menu. We started with their spicy tuna crispy rice (which they are well known for and with good reason) and the Asian caesar salad (so delicious). I had one of their special rolls with lobster which was good but not great (especially for the price), and some nigiri which was spectacular. More often than not, restaurants with much hype fail to live up to expectations. However, Toku bucks that trend and lived up to all my hopes. Not only was the food extremely well prepared, seasoned and tasty but the service was quick and accommodating. The three highlights of my meal were the crispy fried rice topped with spicy tuna, the braised short rib pad thai and the soy marinated skirt steak. After checking in for my party of 3 for 8pm, another party of 3 (Caucasian women) checked in about 5 minutes after. 8:23pm comes around and the group of 3 gets sat before us. I inquired with the host (short man with glasses) on why they were seated before us. His response was "your table is paying". I told him it was unfair that they checked in for the same time after us and still got seated before us. His response again "miss your table is paying the bill now". I said that's not the point, we came in and checked in for our 8pm reservation well before this group of white women, do you understand where I'm coming from? On a positive side, their cocktails are very good according to my wife and friend (I was on medication and driving that night so only had ginger ale). We started with lobster tacos, pork belly bun and crispy rice appetizers, The crispy rice is very good but also very filling so probably could have done with only 1 order. The buns were ok but lobster tacos were tasteless. For entrees, we got a bunch of rolls, hoisin duck and the short rib with Pad Thai noodles. The rolls were just ok, nothing special. The sauce for the hoisin duck was too watered down, the pad Thai noodles were horrible. The short rib was just ok. Too many misses and not enough hits for us to be back. I visited Toku for the first time yesterday with my husband and what a delight! We each got our own prefix lunch special and I was honestly blown away by the portion sizes (see pictures) -- we could have easily gotten one special to split between the 2 of us! For $30 you get an appetizer, meal, and a dessert. I had the Asian Caesar salad, the vegetable udon, and the banana wonton. The portions were much larger than I've ever experienced for a lunch special and the food was delicious. I especially loved the salad, what a nice twist on the traditional Caesar and the dessert, which was something I've never had before but will dream about until the next time we go! *drools* The staff was friendly and worked quickly to get us everything we needed. WOW! This place is a gem I came here with family on our way to Long Island. It's located in a pretty high-end outlet mall and has the ambiance to show for it. Very beachy vibes. It's decorated beautifully. Usually I'm a bit suspicious of "fusion" places but everything on the menu looked fantastic. We got a myriad of dishes but I personally ordered the Ponzu Yellowtail and the Miso Black Cod. Both were incredibly delicious. The cod was cooked perfectly and is up there in one of my top pieces of fish. the sauce it was served with was also delicious and complemented it beautifully. I wasn't the biggest fan of the shishito peppers it's served with so opted for some steamed broccoli on the side. My girlfriend got the Chilean Sea Bass over some mushrooms and it was also really good. Was fall apart flaky and the mushrooms were earthy and cooked well - a perfect complement. To top it off, the service was excellent as well. The bathroom was also epic and had the best hand soap. An extraneous detail? Perhaps but just make sure you make a trip there. Highly recommend this place if you're nearby... order the Cod! read more

Toku has a very modern and classy ambiance. The service is top notch. All to be expected from a place that has a $9 salmon avocado roll and shares the same parking lot as Gucci, Cartier, and Louis Vuitton, to name a few. Outdoor seating is comfortable and great for people watching and car watching (where Lamborghinis seem to outnumber Honda Civics). Unfortunately, that's about all Toku has to offers. The crispy rice was okay; but for a $24 appetizer I expected more. The rice was nice and crispy, but IMO there was just too much of it. The salmon was a little bland. The slice of jalapeño was a nice touch. The tuna tataki salad had great quality fresh tuna slices. The salad was delicious; great combination of flavors. Rock shrimp tempura did not have much of a crunch, which is too bad since the sauce was actually pretty good. For $26 I expected more. The shrimp tempura roll was mediocre. I'm not a fan of the asparagus with the shrimp tempura roll. My fault for not asking what was in it. Spider crab roll was the biggest disappointment. The soft shell crab itself fed was either not fresh or poorly prepared. The spider crab roll is usually my favorite roll when available at other restaurants. The king crab California roll was the best of the three rolls we got. I defiantly recommend it. Overall, great atmosphere. The food is kind of hit or miss. After tax and tip for a lunch for two for $200, I expected more. read more

It's located in the Manhasset Shopping Center, great place to fuel up before you run out for shopping after eating! The place was crowded during lunch and we asked for a table inside. There is outdoor seating but the weather looked a little iffy that day. We shared the kurobuta pot stickers, the braised short rib sliders to start. Then we had the seared salmon and the steamed sea bass bundles. The salmon was seared perfectly and the sea bass bundles were fantastic. One of the best meals I have ever had. I went on a Sunday night and it was packed so thankfully I had a reservation. We were sat promptly and had a really amazing server who got us drinks right away and was super attentive. The lychee martini is a must have (beware they are strong) and so delicious. We got so much food and I truly believe you could order anything on this menu and it would be amazing. While everything was delicious, the highlights were the crispy tuna rice, yellowtail & pork buns. I also recommend getting the black sesame ice cream for dessert, it tasted like vanilla with a nutty taste and crunchy corn flakes. Lunch with a friend. The ambience: It's along the row of the luxury stores so not surprised at the grand feel of the restaurant. Very nice, open spaced, white tablecloth, luxury feel dining. The outdoor looked attractive and nicely laid out but we chose indoors for the AC. The food: Unfortunately, the shrimp fried rice was not hot or warm, so were the ribs. The fish was steaming hot which was good. We had to send the fried rice back and it came back steaming hot which was way much better; very tasty too. The ribs, I did not like. It was too sweet, sticky and fatty for me. I also ordered spicy tuna sushi with crunch top. The crunchy was missing and the sushi was loaded with rice. Way more rice with a tiny sliver of fish. I did not like it. I took apart all the rice and there was hardly anything left to eat. The Seabass was good. The best for me was the fries!! Omg! Best fries on the planet! Period!! I will go back there over and over for the fries. Fries topped with pellets of sea salt...so unique,, so tasty and so beautifully presented. The service: There was a delay in serving our table but the food came out quickly. Oh Toku, how I wanted to like you so bad. If you want the short version of this review, the restaurant is nothing more then just okay at best, and does not live up to the tremendous hype surrounding it. Ambiance: This I have to give to Tuku. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, with a dark and romantic kind of feel. The one thing I have to knock Toku on is they do pack the restaurant very full. Not sure if that meets covid guidelines, but it's just something to keep in mind. Service: The service was phenomenal. They say the best service is when you don't notice it, and we definitely didn't notice it. Glasses never went empty, and dirty plates never stayed on the table more then a few seconds. Drinks: The drinks were pretty okay, nothing special but not bad either. I had gotten the hibiscus, and it was just okay as I said. Was strong, so that's good at least. Also got to try the mango martini, which was barely any mango, and the majority of it was alcohol. It was good if you're into those kinds of drinks. Appetizers: As for the appetizers, we ordered a ton of stuff, as we were a party of 10 people. We started with crispy rice (x2), rock shrimp tempura (x2), pork fried rice (x2), teriyaki burger sliders (x2), spicy tuna tar tar (x2), shrimp dumplings (x2), and steamed white rice (x2). The appetizers that stick out in my head are the rock shrimp, which you definitely shouldn't miss, crispy rice, and the shrimp dumplings. Everything else was just kind of average unfortunately. Sliders were overcooked, tar tar was good but can get that anywhere, white rice is nothing more then white rice, fried rice was below average (besides the egg on top, which was surprisingly soft and basically perfect). If you go, get the first three I mentioned, and skip the rest. Entrees: As for entrees, I split two plates with my friend, so I can only speak on those two. They had run out of the peking duck for one (just my luck), so we went for the hoisin duck cooked medium rare. It was cooked perfectly, so that was nice, and the flavor was decent. The miso black cod was also cooked perfectly, but too be honest the plate was just to small. Not enough food for the price of the dish. Dessert: For dessert, we brought our own birthday cake, so unfortunately cannot comment on that. They did slice and plate it for us which was nice. Bill: The bill came to $1,230 for 10 people with tip and tax. When you take out the two birthday celebrants, and divide the bill by 8, it was $154 per person. So, what I'm trying to say was don't expect to come here for less then $$$. The Verdict: Overall, this place is all hype, and the value is not very good at all. Even after all the appetizers, entrees, and the dessert, half of us walked out just barely full. For $154 per person, I honestly expected more. While nothing was bad, nothing was so good that I could see going out of the way to go back. If you're down to spend that much per person, go to a nice steakhouse, and skip Toku. read more

This place definitely lives up to the hype. We had 8:00 reservations and arrived at 7:50 and were seated right away. Everything on the menu sounds amazing. We ordered the Spicy Pear Martini and Chili Passion to start. Both were good however if you want more of a kick go with the spicy pear. For food we went with the Rock Shrimp (you can never go wrong with that) we also ordered the south beach roll, crispy calamari salad, soy sesame chicken (nothing special same as if you ordered from a Chinese restaurant) and kimchee Chinese broccoli. We enjoyed everything it was way too much food. Our waiter Kevin was fantastic! He was on top of everything and very helpful! For dessert we tried the warm brownie with green tea mousse. Returned today 2/10/18 Ordered 2 spicy tuna rolls and they were fresh and flavorful. My other dish was a chopped Cobb salad. I do not recommend this salad . It was carelessly chopped and really wasn't up to par with the rest of the food that I have seen this restaurant serve. Reviews for this place are uneven but I have to say, I'm a fan (and I fully did not expect to be). Run by the same group that owns Cipollini down the street and Bar Frites in Greenvale, this is their modern Asian restaurant. The decor here is modern and clean and the ambiance is good. The food here is excellent. The menu has a lot of dishes from all over Asia - Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, most of the big hits are present. We came to celebrate a birthday and we went all out. 1. Duck and Lychee Skewers - juicy and cooked to perfection 2. Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna - spicy tuna was great, crispy rice was good but a bit too thick 3. Salmon Crudo - rolled with pear and covered in shoyu, excellent 4. Yellowtail Crudo - fresh, topped with a jalapeño, top notch 5. Chinese Sausage Cha Han - Great fried rice, excellent texture and spot on taste 6. Sushi Chef's Special - Large plate of sushi and sashimi for 3 people ($100) - fish was exceptionally fresh and rolls were tasty 7. Jjajiang Noodles - Inspired by the Korean noodle dish, very tasty albeit not your traditional noodle used in Korean restaurants Desserts were pretty good too. The ice cream mochi was homemade and had unique flavors (Thai basil mango, lychee etc.), the lychee sorbet with passionfruit cream was sweet and tangy and the banana wonton was crispy and sweet. Service here was excellent and highly professional. Only reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is the prices are pretty high so the value isn't all there. I came here for the first time several years ago and loved the service and food. My friends and I came here often to celebrate our birthdays and were always seated in the back private dining area. I recently came back to introduce a few of my favorite dishes to my friends. I would recommend the rock shrimp and edamame dumplings. Everything else was too salty. Note that this restaurant is not really an authentic Japanese / Asian fusion restaurant and prices are a lot more expensive. They served bibimbap but did not know what was gochujang... for a place that serves asian food I would assume that its servers knew the different sauces that go with the dish.
