This feels more like a 4 1/2-star experience. We had a lovely dinner at Kissaki this evening. We started with an espresso martini, which was excellent--smooth, well-balanced, and a great way to kick off the meal. My husband and I each took a few sips before I remembered to snap a photo--always a good sign. For appetizers, the wasabi rock shrimp and spicy tuna crispy rice were both standouts--fresh, flavorful, and nicely executed with great texture. We also ordered the 10 piece nigiri flight, which was consistently impressive. The fish tasted fresh across the board, with the uni being a highlight--rich, creamy, and exceptionally fresh. The shrimp tempura roll was delicious--crispy and well-balanced. The only dish that didn't quite land for us was the ebi hamachi futomaki. It wasn't bad, just not a favorite for my husband--I only remembered to take a photo when we were nearly finished. From the kitchen, we shared the black cod and sea bass--both outstanding. Tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked--definite highlights of the meal. For dessert, we shared the peach cobbler, which was a great finish. Warm peaches with hints of bourbon and cinnamon, paired with Japanese vanilla ice cream--comforting and well-balanced. Service was warm throughout, and the quality of the food was evident in nearly every dish. While it leans toward the higher end in price, the overall experience fell just shy of a full five stars--but was nevertheless very enjoyable. read more

Kissaki Manhasset is a great place for a special night out and delicious Japanese Cuisine. They have table side Omakase, small bites, full size entrees, sushi, cocktails, and dessert. The Sea Bass is outstanding and is a must try; flavorful (no strong fishy smell/taste), super soft and tender, like cutting warm butter with a fork. Another must is the Matcha Tiramisu, outstanding and unique! I am not a matcha lover and this was one of the best deserts I've had! The lights are dim, there's live music certain nights, comfy intimate seating and a modern flair. Service was excellent, the waitress was extremely helpful and patient with us. Parking is limited and a task in itself, so plan accordingly. read more

Today I tried Kissaki for happy hour. Their happy hour runs from Sunday-Thursday. They have $10 drink specials and a handful of happy hour small plates and sushi options. The place is really cute and the bar is decently big. It kind of has a luxe vibe to it. The happy hour drinks aren't really anything out of the ordinary, so we got drinks off the regular menu. We got an umami martini, lychee martini and a momo sour. The sour was my favorite. The flavors felt cozy from the cinnamon but you still got a hit of sour. For food we got everything off the happy hour menu. kani salad, the 3 roll special (unagi, yellowtail scallion, and the negitoro), and the sashimi special. The kani salad had a big chunk of avocado but otherwise wasn't my favorite. It had a lot of lettuce in it. The rolls were amazing! The sashimi was standard and the pieces were small for the price. Our server was very patient as we took our time considering there were only two other people there. I would go back for drinks and maybe try some other rolls or something off the kitchen menu. read more

Second time dining at Kissaki and this time we went for the tuna cutting experience. We sat at a communal table and really enjoyed chatting with the people on either side of us. As the evening went on, it definitely got very noisy with all the ohs and ahs and libations. It was fun, watching a very large tuna being sliced for serving by an expert chef. I wasn't sure if I would like a full dinner of only tuna however, the way each course of the tasting was prepared was unique. It was absolutely delicious. A fun and lively experience and I'm very glad we did it. Looking forward for Omakase next time we return. read more

I appreciate the experience overall but the food left much to be desired. The overall ambiance was dark, great for a date night. Service was attentive and presentation of the food were very aesthetic. No complaints here. However, the food overall was not that great, especially when the menu says the fish is sourced from Japan. The wagyu crispy rice was flavorless and the caviar did nothing to enhance it. The rice was crispy though, I'll give them that. We got the kani salad (not pictured) and it lacked a lot of crab meat and lettuce was placed as a filler. Seemed as if they cheaped out on the dish and it was not cheap. The sashimi flight and the chef's sushi selection were not fresh at all and slightly warm temperature. It was pretty, but it seemed as if the fish went bad or not kept in the right temperature in the back. All of the following are good dishes: TORO SUNDAE (Tartare, egg yolk, nori puree, osetra caviar); WAGYU DUMPLINGS (Scallion, truffle-sansho ponzu); NASU (Asian eggplant, miso glaze); BRUSSELS SPROUTS (Ume teriyaki, togarashi); GRILLED MUSHROOMS (King trumpet, maitake, brown beach, ginger miso); SPICY CUCUMBER SALAD; 10 PIECE NIGIRI FLIGHT Service: We had a carrot allergy at the table so the server updated that in her POS device. And what dish comes out? The kani salad with shredded carrots. Great. Now we have the rest of the evening wondering what other allergens may have slipped into the table. The server had to rely on a mobile device or consulting the kitchen or bar for any questions - servers should be more professional and familiar with your beverage program and know the menu better. That's just not acceptable at a restaurant of Kissaki's attempted league. Ambiance: Dining room furniture is a random assortment of chairs that resemble an 80's kitchen or a banquet hall with upgraded upholstery. Place settings and tables need help. Why do we have to play the 'rearrange our entire table settings' game every time a dish or two is presented? If these small plates are all way above average cost, they should be served and placed with some level of sophistication- not like a diner food runner. I found the music and lighting comfortable. TLDR: Kissaki has landed on Long Island. Very good looking restaurant. Sandy futomaki, spicy tuna and negitoro rolls were great. I was meaning to try Kissaki for awhile and recently I was able to. The restaurant while small was renovated very nicely. Toro Sundae was a nice bowl of all the premium stuff. Uni, caviar, toro, egg yolk. Pretty good started. Miso soup could have been a bit more flavorful but definitely the most well-plated miso soup I've seen. Sandy Futomaki was solid. Uni, ikura, toro, we opted to remove the cucumber due to an allergy. Very flavorful and satisfying. Spicy tuna roll had decent heat and the negitoro was solid. Uni pasta was a good portion but just wish there was more uni whipped into the sauce. It tasted more butter forward but might have been an off night. The textures were very good, crunchy, everything clinging to the ramen noodles. Ambiance was on point. It's a bit smaller than it looks in pictures but the from the furniture, lighting, paint colors...it was tasteful and felt high end. Service was spectacular. Our servers were attentive and came to check on us frequently, gave us menu recommendations, smiled politely without being overwhelming, and I said servers because more than one kept coming over and making sure our tea was filled. Food is where it fell short. The Yelp photos looked delicious but it left a lot to be desired. The uni pasta just tasted like buttery heavy cream with a few pieces of uni on the side, it didn't taste like uni at all. The 10 piece nigiri sushi fell short as well. While the rice was flavorful, it was just too much per nigiri. We (4 of us) felt we were just getting stuffed with rice. The fish quality was also underwhelming, the cuts weren't the best and it didn't have that fish freshness taste to it, it was just bland, many pieces were drier and the salmon looked anemic. The wagyu fried rice was delicious with a nice char taste, the scallops and mushrooms were flavorful, pretty salty but that's my preference. I really wanted to love this place and be my "spot" for high end sushi without going to the city but the almost $500 bill (all food, no alcohol) paid for ambience and service, unfortunately , I value food the most. Maybe I will come back if I hear that they upped the game on the food, otherwise I'm still on the lookout for a perfect sushi restaurant on the island. read more

The service and atmosphere were excellent. Our server was attentive, changed our plates between each course and constantly refilled our water. We had pork and shrimp skewers, pork was very flavorful (highly recommended) while the shrimp was grilled to crisp but the flavor was mild. I've been eating sushi for over 40 years and have never had sushi so bad in my entire life. The sushi rice was so poorly prepared. All I could taste was vinegar and salt. The flavors from the rice were so overpowering that I couldn't taste any of the flavors of the fish that was on my plate. I should have ordered the sashimi but even my friend said her spicy tuna roll tasted weird (made with same rice). The spicy scallop uni roll had absolutely NO uni in it whatsoever. Uni lovers out there--uni has a VERY distinctive taste--and you will know if it's in your food! Management did comp us for that very expensive roll when we brought it to their attention. And yes, this roll was made with the same rice and all I could taste was cucumber. The toro Sundae started out delicious but the sweetened nori was too sweet and slowly became the star of the show...instead of the toro. It's so unfortunate because I was really looking forward to an amazing experience. Any Japanese restaurant should know that your rice has to be perfect. Visited today for the first time. When you first walk in it feels as if you've left manhasset and gone to an upscale restaurant in Manhattan. It's definitely a treat having this in the neighborhood. We arrived during lunch time on a Sunday. We got "The Sandy" futomaki, hokkaido Uni nigiri, chutoro nigiri, and otoro nigiri. We also got the edamame and tuna tartare. The quality of the fish was amazing - all of the dishes were great and incredibly fresh. Prices (even for lunch) were definitely on the higher end, but the quality was commensurate. After having been to the original Kissaki and waited forever for this restaurant to open near us, we went to Kissaki Sushi full of excitement and high expectations. We were disappointed sadly to say. The restaurant was dimly lit (so dark that we had to shine our phone light to see the menu), the music was extremely loud (that we could hardly converse), and food was mediocre (especially at the prices charged). Among the dishes we tried, chicken thighs yakitori was the best. The sushi flight is worth a try. The rest was a waste of money. The service was excellent. Came here for lunch in Friday, and was seated quickly. The restaurant is gorgeous like a page from Gatsby. Our waiter June, brought us water and made some small talk. We ordered the chicken karage, tuna flight, bara chirashi and chefs selection sushi. The chefs sushi came with tuna, salmon, sea bream (already consumed) and scallop and choice of roll (salmon, tuna). The food was delicious and fresh. And we are planning out next event here. The design details were well executed so I expected the food to as well. Our service was also nothing to complain about. They were attentive and king. The food; however, was SUBPAR- a huge disappointment. The sushi was dry, the rice had no flavor, the Kani salad was fishy, the rolls were just blah. Their pricing does not match the food. I do not mind paying for good food, but when it is not great, it's frustrating. I think this place needs to step it up a notch given the location, and clientele. I waited a LONG time for this kissaki to open up and had been raving to everyone about the one i went to with my boyfriend in the city and how lucky we were to have one so close to home. Giving this place two stars, let me tell you why. Star number one goes to service. Service here is spectacular, above and beyond. You're immediately created at the door by the host, and the servers and staff are all very attentive and informative. Second star goes to the ambiance, the decor, the plates and utensils, the dim lights and the vibe. The bar area, which is the room that you enter the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, the have a little lounge area in the front as well, just gorgeous. Everything else however was a letdown. To start, they were out of not one, two or three things but our server listed off about 10 items that they didn't have available. Uni being one of them, and to be out of so many items including such a major one like uni at 7pm on a friday is huge. But still, although starting off disappointed, i had high hopes knowing that the fish was amazing when i had it in manhattan. However I didn't enjoy anything that was ordered. We tried the crispy rice, which was more chewy than crispy and tasted very much like oil. The amount of spicy tuna that came on top was laughable and it came with four pieces. Just to throw in a comparison, you can get 2 extra pieces of crispy rice and double the amount of spicy tuna per piece at toku for an extra 5 bucks. My friend ordered the chicken karaage appetizer that was also, not crispy. But the biggest upset for me was my main, I ordered the chef selection of 7 pieces and was shocked to see two of the same piece on my plate....I just could not understand, with all the fish they have to make sashimi and nigiri i'm going to be given two pieces of salmon!??? I've seen photos of the selection with toro and caviar...so how i could end up with two of the same piece of fish was beyond me. And one of the pieces, I was TOLD upon the arrival when the waiter was explaining which fish was what, was bontan ebi (one of my favorite pieces of nigiri)...obviously as you can see by the photo the shrimp was cooked, and it was NOT bontan ebi. The rest was mediocre, rolls were okay, and the rice had no flavor. It was just a total let down. I don't know if the guests that are coming here just don't know good sushi and high quality fish like myself, but the quality of the food here for the price is outrageous, and the fact that they're serving a cooked shrimp and calling it bontan ebi and serving 2 pieces of salmon in a 7 piece chefs choice is just not the vibe. I hope that there's a turnaround here and the quality gets better, but until then I won't be returning or recommending it to any friends. read more

We had a reservation for 6pm. We were running late about 15-20 min so I called the restaurant. No one picked up so I left a message to inform them. When I got to the restaurant at 6:20 the host said - Oh I just canceled your reservation. I explained that I couldn't get through on the phone so I left a message. He said next time I should've text them instead of calling. I let him know that I left a message and tried calling but apparently they said they are too busy to pick up the phone. They need to fix this. He then said that he could seat us but we have to leave by 7:40pm which was a bit rushed but we were fine with but I'm not sure why it was timed...I can't believe it's because we were late- Would you kick us out at 7:40 if we sat down at 6? In any case once seated the service was good. We had the sushi flight, sashimi flight, seared flight with Wagyu and Toro, and lastly the uni pasta. Fish was fresh- it would've been nice if they presented the sushi flights and let us know what kind of fish they were. The uni pasta was delicious and creamy with quality pasta. The decor was polished and nicely done. I wanted to have a better experience here but I guess we got off on the wrong foot. read more

Got the 6 nigiri flight for $45, smallest pieces in a huge box, and there pulled out a thick bone from one of the pieces....never have I ever found a bone in sushi, not even at the cheapest spots. I've been here twice now and the food has been spectacular. The ambiance is chill. It can get noisy during peak hours and weekends. So if you want a quiet night out, I would try a weeknight. We had the toro sundae for appetizer, which was beautiful. It was hard to taste the flavors after mixing it up as instructed. Both nigiri flight and sashimi flight were top notch entrees. This new spot in Manhasset first and foremost is absolutely stunning. There are gorgeous banquettes throughout the restaurant for larger groups and the bar room looks perfect for a first date. I started with the Spicy Crab, which was so flavorful it had me picking out every last morsel before letting go of the plate and the spicy tuna crispy rice is always a hit. Then it was onto the sushi, which is a place Kissaki shines (they also have two locations in NYC) - My server Roshad who was the absolute best told me to get the chef's signature selection and I couldn't pick a favorite because they were each so uniquely satisfying (and change regularly). For mains my friend and I had the Uni Pasta which was so decadently delicious and the Black Cod, which was light and sweet. I can't wait for an excuse to come back and would highly recommend this spot to family and friends. read more

One star is for the ambience of the bar and front lounge area. The service was fine. The waiter tried to be attentive. The food was good, but frankly, it was underwhelming. All this was fine and good until everything went suddenly downhill. The waiter asked if we wanted the check, even before offering dessert. We told him that we wanted dessert, especially bc we were celebrating a birthday. The dessert came with no candle (we had requested one). He apologized and got us a candle. We were midway into dessert and still working on our cocktails when the hostess came over. They needed our table and the next reservation was waiting. (It was 8 o'clock and our reservation was at 6:15pm). We were surprised. The hostess said usually reservations were for 1 hr and 45 min. No one had told us that. Frankly, it felt like we were being chased out. They suggested we relocate to the bar. We decided to just rush through the rest of our dessert and leave. The whole interaction was so odd and off-putting. While we were paying the check, we noticed the hostess, our waiter, and another server discussing the incident and looking over at us. I have never experienced such treatment before and I felt mortified. On the way out, I discussed these feelings with the hostess and she said very coolly "well, you were 15 min late." First of all, we weren't. Second of all, she made it seem like we could have had more time to eat if we weren't late. It was our fault. There was no apology about the way we were treated, except from the waiter. This was supposed to be a celebratory dinner for a special meeting among friends, but it ended on such a sour note. I will never come back again. It was overpriced and we barely digested our food before we were sent away because we overstayed our welcome. read more

The food was exceptional, the service was fantastic and the vibe was great!
