We came here for a friend's birthday celebration. We tried their hibachi and it was decently presented by the master. Food is just okay but fairly priced. The place is a bit outdated but what I loved about it is that they install a wonderful photo galley wall of all their guests celebrations. It was so pleasant to be appreciated on its simple way and a good reason to return ( to look up also where they posted your photo!). Staff is nice and very pleasant. By the way, they allowed to bring your own cake and they cut it for free. read more

It saddens me to say this is the second time ordering from here. I ordered today 8/11/2025 and I ordered 3 rolls lunch special this time not 2 rolls. However, I was eating it and something didn't taste right. As I looked at the eel rolls the avocado was so dark, so I opened one and then opened another one and they were dark not good to me. I don't eat avocados that look like that. Needless to say I won't eat there again. I called and spoke with Eric the manager and he sent me pictures of how his avocados came in a case from his supplier and I told him that should never have went out to anyone. The price really was on the higher end. Granted it was in Garden City. The fried stuff was a little dry. The udon was good.

I think this place is really great. It's been in Garden City for at least two decades and it's highly frequent by the locals which is a good sign in my opinion. We had a delicious hibachi steak and I must say the chicken fried rice was 10 out of 10. I think this is a great spot to try in a great neighborhood with great people. read more

Sushi Ya is a pretty solid sushi place tucked away in Nassau. It is conveniently right next to a Chip if you're feeling dessert after! My friend and I went and had the sushi + sashimi plate and it was the right amount of food- not too much and not too little. I've had better sashimi but it wasn't bad. What made the meal full circle IMHO were the strong and inexpensive drinks. I forgot exactly what I got it was something with passion fruit but it was absolutely delicious and definitely strong- it's a current trend in the city to skimp on the alcohol so nice to know that places in LI don't, at least not Sushi Ya haha. All in all, I would visit again if the opportunity arises. read more

Ordered take out from here several times as it's one of the few sushi places we keep in rotation when we are craving sushi. The service is great as the food is always prepared quickly and packaged well. The rolls are delicious and very satisfying. My boyfriend's favorite of this order was the sushi ya roll and my favorite was the Eric-San roll but I requested it without eel and extra tuna. The beef fried rice was made well, not too oily and flavorful. The restaurant is in a perfect location right across from cold stone and chip city. Highly recommend! read more

The staff is courteous and attentive and the wines and beer selection is superb. Make sure you ask about the sake and Japanese whiskey selection as well. my favorite sushi cuts are the yellowtail and fatty tuna. I usually love this place but FYI there menu online price is not the same price they charge my receipt before paying. They charge so much more it's actually shocking. I'm not sure if this is the regular prices in the restaurant or they haven't updated their online menu but they shouldn't be charging someone like this at this amount. In my photos that I have posted are highlighted items that I ordered, plus the receipt that they charge me for. My previous order a seafood udon - there menu online said it is $15 they charge me $26, I also ordered 2x spicy yellowtail for $6 each and they charged it for $16 each and a DJ roll which was $12 online and was charge for $18 my totally came out to be $60 + tax so $65.18 but still this is a wake up call. So here's the deal. We were visiting my son who's a freshman at Hofstra and for family weekend they had some restaurants offering discounts. And these folks were one of them. So I made a reservation on the yelp app and when we got there they were not busy and our table was ready. Tables are low and there wasn't a lot of room. I am 6'6" and my two boys are both 6'2" so we were pretty squished. The menu is a bit weird a ton of choices but a lot are the same and repeated. They also had a lunch menu with more repeats. We order drinks and an app and then we waited. It was probably 10 minutes before we got drinks served. It seemed like a long time. Sure they were good when we got them and so was the app. So the food was really well done. They served us all a salad and a soup before our meals which were great. The dressing on the salad was absolutely delicious. My sushi was good not great like the pictures. My sons looked better. My daughter had the lunch ramen and she enjoyed it and my wife had some noodle and crispy shrimp dish that looked good. I'm the end I'm not sure if I'd go back there or not. Service is the most important aspect of eating out for me and there was a serious lack of it there. read more

Stopped in here for dinner last night . The spot is very nice and the staff very welcoming .. we got the chef salad , monster roll ( so so good !) , spicy tuna roll , spicy salmon roll and the vegetable fried rice . Everything was tasty and fresh . I only have four stars because though our waiter was attentive he wasn't the friendliest.. but hey we all have our bad days right ? After a long morning of shopping, we were all hungry and craving sushi. Sushi Ya was close and had good reviews, so we ended up here and ended up happy. Service was friendly. It was a late lunch, and we were one of the only groups in the place, but not sure how busy the Village of Garden City gets for Saturday lunch. Sushi Ya had lunch specials, which is appreciated. Between four of us, we had the garlic edamame, mona rolls, sushi bento box lunch special, sushi and sashimi lunch special, and an order of tuna sushi. Everything was good and everyone liked everything. The sushi bento box is huge and your best bet. It comes with miso soup, salad, tempura, beef teriyaki, vegetables, shumai, three types of sushi, and rice. The tempura is perfectly crisp and was delicious. I had a piece of eggplant, which I don't usually see, so I was happy about that. I thought the sushi (tuna, white tuna, and salmon) was fresh and the cuts were big. My other favorite item was the edamame. Coated in garlic, it's quite addictive, and I highly recommend. When I ask people what makes them crave Sushi, they tell me about the grade of fish and they enjoy the different rolls. The other Japanese beer I like is made in California. Well now, lets get the party started! I ordered my bento box and the fish looks off. The tuna didn't have a bright color, it just looked off. Also, Miso soup should be served after the fish. We as Americans with rice on the outside of the roll, eat the Miso soup when it first comes out. Just a heads up. Also, don't douse the rice in soy sauce. The rice should never touch the soy sauce. See? All these rules with Sushi. That's why I like pizza. I really liked this place from the moment we walked in and left. They have two hibachi stations and a whole bunch of booths and tables. If you walk through the back there is a bar and few seats you can probably sit at. I'm the front entrance you are basically walking through the restaurant. You can walk through either entrance. They have a sushi menu and hibachi menu. They pretty much have something for everyone! I ordered chirashi, which was portioned beautifully. It was great the right amount of rice to fish. It was not too fishy for me and the fish all tasted very fresh. We had an order of shrimp and scallops, which also was portioned nicely. It comes with a soup or salad and a choice of ice cream at the end. We went with the green tea and it was just the right finish to cleanse our palates. We also had an order of the sashimi delux. Same goes, soup or salad, and your dinner. With dinner we ordered some drinks. They have a Nu- vodka, which is a gluten free vodka. I'm not sure if I haven't drank in a while but to me the Nu lemonade vodka was strong. Overall was a great dinner and going to have to go back to bring my fiancé to try the hibachi table! Came here for the outdoor seating on my lunch hour. It was a really warm, sunny day but the outdoor tables had umbrellas that kept perfect shade. I ordered :: The green salad w/ ginger dressing- All iceberg lettuce. Average flavor ginger dressing, a little watery than I'd prefer texture wise. Chicken Hibachi lunch- Comes with side of clear soup and green salad. The "clear soup" had a very off taste. Almost sour. Miso soup shouldn't be replaced with this! The chicken hibachi sauce wasn't anything to come back for, but satisfying enough.
