El Sol GL - Mexican Near Me - Mineola, New York

Before beginning this review, my wife and I would like to thank Alyssa Guidice for mailing us a 15% coupon to be used for this dinner. Now to the review. If you have an insatiable desire for the best Mexican food around, grab your sombrero, and stop by El Sol Gl, on Old Country Rd., Mineola. Upon entering, you'll be serenaded by Mexican music, and have the feel that you've been transported to Mexico, and will be dining at a local Cantina. As soon as we sat down, warm homemade tortilla chips, along with homemade salsa were placed on the table. We've had this combo at many Mexican restaurants, but none that even came close to this. My wife ordered a glass of red sangria that she absolutely loved. After devouring the above, we order a chicken quesadilla for an appetizer. Once again this simple dish, far exceeded our expectations. For entrees my wife ordered a steak & chicken combo fajitas, accompanied by rice refried beans, guacamole, sour cream along with homemade tortillas. I ordered the enchiladas mixtas. This dish consisted of 3 separate enchiladas, one each of chicken, shrimp & steak topped with 3 types of salsa, & melted oaxaca cheese. The combination of textures & flavors were beyond the taste of any enchiladas I've ever experienced. We passed on dessert, but they have a number of homemade items highlighted by tres leches cake. I also would like to give a special thanks to Romeo for his outstanding service & recommendations. They have various daily specials such as Taco Tuesday, 1/2 price margaritas, and a weekend brunch. If you want to enjoy a homemade Mexican meal you don't have to fly to Mexico, just get in your car and head for El Sol Gl. The meal will be Fantistico!! read more

One of our new regular spots - gone twice in 2 weeks! El Sol offers great service and delicious Mexican cuisine. Nice relaxing vibe and very friendly staff. Started off with the empanadas and ceviche. Both were excellent and super flavorful. For entrees, we had the pollo relleno, steak ala Jalisco, el sol signature steak and the fajitas mixtas. Pollo relleno was a unique dish with great sauce. The steak ala Jalisco was fine, but the el signature steak definitely stood out with its marinade. All of their meals are great value for the price but the stand out was the fajitas. The mixtas offers steak, chicken and shrimp. We all ordered these on our 2nd visit. For me, the steak and shrimp were the best. We finished the meal with churros and tres leches. While it was delicious, $19 for the dish was as a bit high. Overall, this place is one of our new favorites. My fiancée had left his credit card and we appreciated their honesty about it. Will be back soon to try some of their weekly specials. read more

Came in for lunch. It's quiet and fairly empty on a weekday afternoon we were the only ppl there. We were served chips and salsa which was delicious. Could tell it was freshly fried chips. Service was attentive. Food came out hot and all tasted fresh. read more

I found this place on (9.9.25) without even trying to look for it. I was by the bus terminal which wasn't far and was curious to see what this restaurant was all about. I had a few minutes before my next bus so I walked over and it was the best decision ever. As I walked inside there were a few customers sitting at the bar area and I also took a seat. The server gave me a menu and proceeded to bring some chips and salsa. Yum yum yum! Then, the bartender took my order for both food (tacos de birria, tacos de sol and tacos de camarón) and a drink (passion fruit margarita). TACO TUESDAYS IS $3, great deal and its delicious!!! My food order was approaching (yes of course had to take my pictures) I got very excited to try each one. When I tell you that each taco bite was out of this world, just wow!!!!!! It was hot, fresh and very tasteful. Each taco was just right! I love a taco that is full to the top and even if it gets messy!!! Oh my birria taco came with a small consume on the side which was delicious but a little too salty for me. By the way, my passion fruit margarita was so good too! As I was still eating, I had asked the bartender how long have they been opened he had responded only three months. Wow, that's amazing and they are in a great location too! So for anyone reading this come to El Sol GL, you will enjoy! I will see you guys soon! read more

We just dined here and had a great time and a nice Saturday evening dinner. We also left feeling really great and not overly full to our bellies. You know that feeling? Everything tasted so fresh. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and thought they were absolutely delicious. The pieces are chopped up chunks and not shredded chicken *** thought I would add this for the readers just in case you have a preference. I ordered a side of rice and beans (each I believe $5 each). We also ordered Mexican corn as a side. My loved ones loved their burritos! It was a combination of chicken and beef. They loved the sauce. The only thing that was difficult is the music is very loud and lively but we were with our senior loved ones and she left feeling the music was too loud for her dinner. The window also had a draft for her. Just wanted to put this just in case you are coming for a meal with your loved one. read more

I had the pleasure of having brunch at El Sol GL on Sunday 7/20/25 and wow this place is truly a hidden gem. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by friendly waiter who sat us down. We were invited to this special brunch by a friend of the owner who wanted us to give our honest feedback. He also greeted us and was super friendly. The food: I ordered the breakfast bowl because it had a little bit of everything I was craving. It was true mix of breakfast and brunch but latin style. This dish had Moro, which is essentially rice and beans cooked together with special seasonings that make the rice dark. Let me tell you, as someone who makes Moro at home, I was very impressed. The flavors were there and the rice was cooked to my liking. The Moro included a fun twist, it had pieces of tater tots which gave it a little crunch. The dish also came with skirt steak which was flavorful and cooked to perfection and finally it also had two friend eggs on top. I give this dish a 10/10. For the drinks, they have a variety of flavored mimosas. I ordered the Hawaiian mimosa. The flavor was good but it's def on the sweeter side. This is something that I'm sure can be adjusted. The vibe and music: the music was good! Honestly made us wish we could dance. My sister who is huge on music and dancing was very impressed at the selection. It was trending Latin music with the perfect variation in genres. If you're in the area or just simply want to have some flavorful Latin food with a twist. I highly suggest you give EL SOL a try. There is plenty of parking in the meters in the block behind. Go check them out and let me know what you think! read more

I have been wanting to come to this restaurant since it opened, but I was hesitant. I was concerned that it was just another Mexican restaurant pretending to be authentic, but it's actually incredible! After reading the menu I got very excited about coming here and I made an amazing decision! The bartender, who was also our waiter, was amazing. The drinks are creative and fun and the food is everything! I hope this place packs out for lunch and dinner every single day! read more

Love coming here for their tacos, so authentic tasting and delicious. Margs are strong and really reasonably priced!

I just had a pickup order from there. Nachos were dry, the chips were greasy and soggy. The whole thing looked like it was sitting around and baked in a tin. I didn't try my fajitas yet because they forgot the flour tortillas. What's more is when I called them, they wanted me to come and pick them up. Cya. read more

Tried the tacos el sol for delivery. The delivery price for 3 average sized tacos was $21 not counting mandatory service charge and tip. And for $21 there wasn't salsa or even lime included and the tacos needed them (fortunately i had some at home). Quality was good but nothing about it was memorable. read more

Best mistake I've ever made!! Ordered pickup from here on a total accident thinking it was another place, and thought I guess this is a sign to try something new! Guillermo took my order of the phone and helped me when I arrived and he was not only so incredibly friendly but when I told him what happened he threw in fresh chips and salsa (which were fantastic)! He let me know I was about to find my new favorite burrito and he was completely right just WOW!! the carnitas is INCREDIBLE there is so much fresh cilantro in the insanely flavorful sauce I was instantly in love! the ambiance is also so so nice I cannot wait for date night because my husband and I will 100% be back! Food is really good. Busboy was awesome, server was a little overwhelmed but overall great experience.

Great place ! Incredible deals for taco Tuesday .. $3 steak, chicken, or shrimp. Also had quesadillas- excellent!!! Highly recommend :)

The restaurant was small and quite loud, with music as the main noise. There was also a large, loud party celebrating a birthday. The noise level came down to a loud but bearable level after the party left. My dish was very well prepared and very good, my wife's dish had a meat part that she really liked, however, the vegetables were soaked in oil and not really edible. Still not sure if we will give them another try. read more

The drinks are pretty good! I had the Mexican mule and my friend had the mexicalita Rita. Both really good. The food is served in pretty good portions, definitely had to take some home. I had the pillow relleno. The Rice and Beans were delicious, so was the chicken , but so many places mess up rice and beans, it's worth highlighting. Right now this place is a hidden gem, no wait, and everyone is friendly. The inside decor makes it feel like you've stepped out of NY. read more

El Sol GL is absolutely fantastic! From the moment we arrived, the service was friendly and attentive, and the food was outstanding. We loved the Quesadita with chicken, steak, and shrimp. Each bite was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The enchiladas were silky smooth and practically melted in my mouth. The tequila list deserves a special mention, it's filled with authentic Mexican selections, and their margaritas made with true Mexican tequila were simply out of this world. With excellent food, great service, and very reasonable prices, El Sol GL has quickly become one of our favorite spots. We will definitely be coming back again soon! read more

Had such a great lunch today with two girlfriends! We started with a delicious margarita and shared the guacamole and salsa with chips--so fresh and flavorful. We split a salad and the platter for two, which was more than enough for the three of us. Everything was perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. We ended the meal with churros and vanilla ice cream, which was the perfect sweet finish. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, and we never felt rushed. Overall, such a relaxed and enjoyable experience. We'll definitely be back! read more

I can't say enough good things about this incredible restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and attentive service set the tone for a perfect evening. The margaritas were outstanding and made with top-shelf tequila. Easily some of the best I've had anywhere. We ordered the steak, and it was cooked to absolute perfection--The seasoning had just the right kick without overpowering the meat. If you go, do not skip dessert. The Churros were amazing. If you're looking for a place with authentic Mexican food this is it. read more

I went here on a whim because I drove past it a hundred times and the other restaurant that my daughter and I wanted to go to was closed . We were greeted with enthusiasm and smiles , the service was fantastic, the owner Guillermo is a super nice guy , the type of restaurant owner that I really root for that his restaurant takes off . The food is fantastic... fresh , tasty , came to the table piping hot ! My daughter and I will be back for sure and next time with a bunch of people! The only problem is parking , if you don't mind parking down the block then there's no issue. Go and enjoy fantastic Mexican food with delicious flavors!!!!!! read more
