Looked so cute on OpenTable... but don't let that fool you!!! Got here at 6:20 and didn't see an appetizer until 7:20. An entire hour for food that was nothing special and the smallest portions I've ever seen. The staff was nice but seemed unprepared and unsure and no one knew the specials, no one could answer a single question, and everything moved at the speed of a snail!!! on!!! sedatives!!! And honestly, the food is just not good. Nothing stood out, nothing worth waiting an hour for, and definitely not worth the price. And the thing is... if they were busy, I'd honestly be like "okay, fine, it happens." But I was literally 1/3 tables in the whole place. Hard to give any grace when it's that empty and still this bad!!! When it's finally Friday and you're excited for dinner out... this ain't it!!! No wonder OpenTable offered me 1000 points to come here lol. Update: We were so over it that we asked for the dessert (included with the prix fixe) to go. Very nice spot hidden in an apartment complex. The brunch was delicious. Very tasty Bellinis with a bottomless option for $45. Stack of pancakes was not only gorgeous but very fluffy and tasty. The French toast was a bit soggy, the manager was kind enough to replace it with an even bigger portion; bruleed banana was a nice touch. Stopped by yesterday evening for an early dinner with my family and had such a great experience. The restaurant is beautiful, with a great patio out back that overlooks the pool--it honestly gives off vacation vibes. Really enjoyed this restaurant! The complimentary bread was served soft with a butter and olive oil mix. The cocktails are good, I got the lavender margarita and my husband got an old fashioned. I wasn't that impressed with the wine list. The wines are expensive and mostly only from California or Long Island. The skirt steak was very good and well cooked. We split that and the mushroom truffle flatbread, which was great. The Brussel sprouts were sweet and drowned in honey. Would have appreciated if they were a little spicy but they were still good. For dessert we tried the cookie skillet which we really enjoyed. The indoor dining is really comfortable, we were in a booth. Service was friendly. Easy parking. The food is not bad, but the ambience makes the restaurant seem majestic and out of place from the local area in a good way. We had the pre-fix Valentines menu, we both ordered the mushroom flatbread and the steak chimichurri. It was an incredibly long wait and the food was lukewarm and subpar. We ended up leaving the restaurant around 1155 at night. The drinks were good, they were definitely heavy-handed. I had the Cosmo and he had the mule. Our friends recommended this place after their one random date. Since then, they have been back a few times with other friends. This time, my husband and I finally got time to stop by for some drinks. The bartender Jack is a wizard, let's just say. We were truly amazed at his craft! We tried a few specials that our friends recommended, and they were tasty like the lemon drop. I gave Jack free reign to make me something as long as it's not vodka. One of those was the passion fruit bourbon smash? I forgot the name but it was delicious!! Also, he made me his version of a pisco sour. Yum. Oh, i missed a good pisco sour. It was comparable to some good ones down in Miami. It's been so long since I had really good cocktails, and he didn't skimp out on the alcohol ( a lot of places do when they see it's a female). So, 10 stars, for Jack and the scene. The -1 star is for the food. I tried the salmon tartare, wild mushroom flatbread, and Cinco de mayo nachos. The flatbread was delicious, but everything else needed a lot more flavor. It needed salt, especially for anyone drinking. The creme brulee was grainy and wasn't smooth. The service was not good at all, but the food was great and restaurant was nice. I think the seller here is the 'bottomless brunch special 'they have, but it took way too long to take our order, the server went missing for almost the entire time we were there, and it took an hour for our food to come out from the moment we sat down - and that was only for 3 dishes. If I have to wait over 15 minutes and then get up and come find the server for something, we're already losing here. They also had a portable console checkout where the server hands it to you to do yourself and then they have the % tip and they awkwardly hover over you while you fill it out. For the expensive price per dish and the upscale restaurant they portray, they should simple take my card and run it like a normal high end place - not hand me a basic iPad like we're at a Chili's. Again I can't deny all the food we had was delicious, including the shrimp and grits, cobb salad, and wild mushroom flatbread - but expect to spend your whole afternoon there waiting for nobody to come often. read more

DONT GO I was looking forward to trying out juniper as it was the closest restaurant to me that was participating in LI Oyster week. I went last night. I even called ahead to make sure. The manager was wishy washy but said they're participating. When I got there the staff didn't know what I was talking about so they said they would honor the $1 oysters as if they were doing me a favor. I wasn't looking for a handout, I only came because they're listed as participants. Well, my friend and I both got sick. It was the only thing we ate there. The bartender said we had the only dozen they had left after we had already eaten them. I'm guessing they gave us some leftovers just to appease us. I would've rather them told me despite being equally disappointing because now I'm unwell. On top of that the drinks were just okay. The second one I got was supposed to be fig blueberry and lemon. A gorgeous luxury apartment/hotel building, truly beautiful especially when you walk inside. Super duper clean, quiet, and the restaurant is straight ahead when you walk in. Walking In , we were greeted by the host and given a table of our choice. Food , we started with multiple different appetizers such as Lamb Ribs , Tuna Tartare , and Fava Bean Dip. I have never been a Tuna person , but the waiter convinced me to give it a shot . And oh boy, it was worth trying. All 3 appetizers were really good and different . This is an update, but as it was Valentines Day and there was only a price-fixed menu (see photo), it's not necessarily reflective of their norm. First, the base price tab was $90 per person with up charges for various dishes, for example the branzino we ordered was an extra $25 per person. Thus branzino for two was $230!!! With tax it was about $250 and then a 20% tip makes it about $300, and that's without ordering anything besides tap water to drink. Second, everything we ordered was shared and was either good, very good or great. Our first appetizer was a spinach artichoke flatbread with ricotta, mozzarella and garlic. It was basically a very good but wierd thin crust pizza. The artichokes were overpowered and barely discernible. Our second appetizer was the coconut crusted medium sized shrimp with pineapple chili sauce, also very good, albeit not as generous a portion as the flatbread. The portion for two of branzino was generous and came in what seemed like a pesto sauce - it was great! The sides were mashed potatoes (whipped ultra light and bland) and okay spinach. The desserts were a small slice of unremarkable banana bread pudding (and I don't know why they call it "pudding" because there was nothing creamy about it) and a very good pineapple molasses cake that reminded me of dark honey cake with small hot chunks of pineapple on the bottom. read more

Just returned from a fabulous dinner at Juniper, located in the Vanderbilt on Corporate Drive in Westbury. The restaurant occupies the former space of Kingfish. We sat in a very spacious rear outdoor patio, which is one of the nicest outdoor spaces we've eaten in since Covid began. The inside portion of the restaurant is beautifully done, and would certainly be apropos for any occasion. Now to the food and service. The menu highlights a raw bar with a wide assortment of oysters, crudo, shrimp, lobster, as well steaks and seafood. We began our meal sharing a very tasty wild mushroom, tallegio cheese and black truffle flatbread. For our entrees we had grilled branzino and center cut tuna steak. Both dishes were prepared perfectly. Many of the menu entree items are ala carte, and we ordered whipped Yukon potatoes and roasted cauliflower as side dishes. Again, both were prepared perfectly. For dessert we had a vanilla bean cheesecake which was accompanied by a berry sorbet, which may be the best tasting sorbet that I've ever had. They have an extensive wine, beer and cocktail menu. The service was very professional, and we're very knowledgeable of the menu. One item of note, is the menu prices, at first blush, appear to be on the high side, but they include an 18% administration fee in lieu of a tip. You obviously can increase that amount on the final check. I personally like this, and I wish more restaurants did the same, allowing the servers to be properly compensated for a job well done. Such a lovely ambience. I would never have known it was there if it wasn't for popping up in my searches for local places. It's situated in a residence and hotel near great shopping. I was very impressed by this restaurant. It had a really nice ambiance and decor. The food was impeccable. I had swordfish and loved it. The little mango salsa went perfect on top of it. The lemon was good on it too. I tried some of my mom's branzino and that was good too. I got to taste my dad's veal ossobuco. Holy cow. I'm getting that next time. The tender meat melted in your mouth. It was divine. Looking forward to coming back! My only gripe with this place was the chairs. If you're eating here, request a booth! The ambiance was amazing. It's a beautiful building to begin with. The menu choices were diverse and very appealing. The service lovely. Just lovely. Everything was perfect. Even perfectly presented. The cocktails should be avoided. Ask for the liquor you want specifically or you will receive an unsatisfactory surprise. The appetizers were disappointing but served their purpose. Over priced for what was received which was mediocre. You could tell just by observation some of the appetizers were not fresh. Freshness was especially defined by the meat that was the main course. I had the privilege of staying at The Vanderbilt this past week and stopping by the on-site restaurant Juniper at The Vanderbilt for dinner. My bestfriend and I decided that we would split the dishes beforehand, as to sample more of the menu and we were so glad we did. Everything was so delicious! We ordered the Wild Mushroom Flatbread with Taleggio and Black Truffle as well as the Kale Salad with apples, goat cheese, and walnuts as our starters. The Kale was definitely massaged and trimmed of any bits of stem beforehand making it so much easier to eat and enjoy. The flatbread was insane, crispy and cheese and covered in savory mushrooms. We enjoyed every bite and while waiting for entrees, were able to enjoy live music outdoors. They had two guitarists performing original music throughout the evening. Our server Danny was a champion, he hung on to every word we spoke and answered every question we posed about the menu and recommendations. He was unbelievable. Under his expertise we ordered the NY Strip Steak, Spanish Branzino, 6 Cheese Mac, and Cauliflower topped with Tahini. We also ordered the LEMONADE and it was sooo refreshing and pure ( hear me out - the lemonade was so goooood - YOU MUST HAVE IT- maybe before cocktails as a warm -up). The steak and branzino were both so tender and juicy, we devoured them and the side salads they came alongside. The mac and cheese serving was so big that my friend and I were able to take some back to the room with us for a midnight snack session. The cauliflower was crisp and drizzled with nutty tahini which contrasted well with its savory seasoning. I was pleasantly stuffed and dazzled by both the food and the service. To end the night, we ordered the dessert special which was a Peach Tart with a torched caramelized top and vanilla ice cream scoops. I also had an herbal mango tea and my friend got an espresso. Ambiance, convenience of location and the staff are all amazing. The main dishes/entrees are where it's at. The side dishes, appetizers & cocktails leave a bit to be desired. Granted I've only had three brunch reservations there. Also every single time it's been completely empty. As in, we're the only diners. The average of 3 stars is because for such a nice build out of a restaurant space the cleanliness isn't all the way there. We were first seated at a booth that had fresh settings but crumbs all over the booth seats. Hair & crumbs on the table & next to a booth that wasn't cleared yet of dirty dishes & leftover food. When asked to have it cleaned we were simply moved to the third & final booth that had food/drinks stain on the white beadboard divider. Cocktail smoked Manhattan was very good...appetizer of charred octopus failed even though the octopus was tender & cooked well..I saw no evidence of "charred". It was edible but bland....no flavor whatsoever. Believe me I've had great grilled octopus (think greek) & this was disappointing. Entree was skirt steak & this was unfortunately another miss. Accompanied by roasted potatoes & onions (both excellent) the skirt steak missed the mark. Good cut & tender however Steak either needed to be marinated or served with a marinade. So incredibly meh! In a hotel, one expects very high standards. Customer needs to be respected and not given lessons on Greek salad. A salad must have lettuce (and I don't care if that's not considered authentic). A bowl of green peppers, feta and tomatoes is NOT A Greek salad and I can't eat green peppers. They remade it, but grudgingly. The only really good thing about this "salad" was the feta. Prices are high, service is surly and not overly present. I want to start off by saying the head chef here used to work for THE Daniel Boulud. Enough said! Juniper is located in The Vanderbilt (luxury rental/hotel). Front of the entrance was very well decorated with a nice Christmas tree along with a table full of ornaments and mini trees. All of the staff from hostess to our server and manager were super nice and welcoming. My friend and I started off with some Cabernet and ordered the "Grand Charcuterie & Cheese Board", "Baked Long Island Clams" and "Pastrami Spiced Lamb Ribs". The cheese board was an amazing compliment to the Cabernet. I really loved the fig jam along with the prosciutto. The "Baked Clams" were probably one of the best baked clams I've ever had. And the "Pastrami Spiced Lamb Ribs" were SO tender and it had the perfect amount of pastrami spice! It was recommended we try one of their fish so we ordered the "Spanish Branzino" and their special for the night "Veal Chop with Mushroom Sauce". As recommended, the Spanish Branzino was perfect!!! Fish was cooked to perfection as it was so soft and moist and the skin wasn't too crispy but crispy enough (I can't wait to go back and try all of their other fish dishes). Now, I had high expectations for the veal chop and boy were my expectations met. Once again, cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and not dry at all. The mushroom sauce went very well with the veal. It wasn't too strong in flavor but mild enough where the flavor of the sauce didn't overwhelm the taste of the veal. By now we were both super super full... but because we enjoyed literally everything we've had so far it left us with curiosity on their desert menu. We had a cup of cappuccino and shared their "Vanilla Ice Cream Sundae". It came mixed in vanilla ice cream, hazelnut crumble, and caramel sauce along with bite sized brownies. Really enjoyed how the brownies were bite sized so we can get a little of everything in 1 bite. Over all super nice experience in a beautiful luxury facility. We held a surprise 80th Birthday party in the private room last Saturday. Everything turned out beyond our expectations. Starting from John the GM, Danny, Amanda, and the rest of the staff, they did a stellar job. The room was perfect with all the decorations.
