My wife and I had lunch today at The St. James. We had a two hour break between doctors' appointments at NYU Langone. I've been going to The St. James for years. Drinks after work, Happy Hour with friends, dinner with my Mom and family. A lot of great memories there. The St. James is an Irish Pub and looks the part both inside and outside. A long bar, several bar height tables, several booths and a separate room with regular 2 and 4 tops. The bathrooms were nice and clean - important to my wife. The service was very very good. Our waitress was training a new employee and did a great job taking care of us. Upon arriving we told the waitress that we were on a tight schedule and she made sure our schedule was accommodated. She took our order quickly, came to check on us several times and made sure we were able to pay quickly. A member of the kitchen staff also came out to make sure our food was good. I ordered the James Burger - perfectly cooked patty, fried onions, cheddar, Irish bacon and their special sauce. It came with a nice pile of French fries. It was very good. A very nice portion - I couldn't finish it all. My wife had the Shepherds Pie. Very large portion. Was served piping hot - she really enjoyed it and could only eat half. I tried a bite - I think I'll order it next time. My wife also recalled her last visit to The St. James - with my siblings after visiting me in the hospital. She had the Pot Roast, which she loved and was able to bring home half which became her next night's dinner. I'm introducing the Big Guy Comfort Scale with this review. I'm a big guy and I'm always anxious about whether I'm going to fit and be comfortable. Flimsy outdoor seating is my nemesis. I'm giving The St. James a 9 on the scale. We sat at a regular table and the chair was very sturdy. I did not check out the booths or the outdoor seating. I didn't try the high top table either. I used to prefer them when I was younger, but now I find that my legs hurt (and fall asleep) if I sit at the tables too long. I'm giving The St. James my recommendation and 4 stars. This place is a lost cause dive bar with zero business running sense. Ordered simple buffalo wings with extra buffalo sauce and ranch instead of blue cheese, and also got mozzarella sticks. Hostess is a socially awkward and extremely rude Gen Zer who can't communicate or take a customer order because she's mentally blocked scrolling on Instagram.. Needless to say the simple short order took 45 minutes even though the kitchen wasn't busy at all and of course as expected the order was wrong for the umteenth time ordering here and the derelict kitchen staff are also too busy playing on their phones the manager Pete asked to make it right instead of just taking initiative without having to ask to make it right. this place needs to reevaluate how they roll. I would not suggest this place if they were giving out food one beverage for free. DO NOT GO HERE! Managers and party planners are sketchy criminals. I booked a private party here as I do at other places every year for my holiday work party. Typically cost is about 80 per person for food and drinks for a few hours and I'm talking about nice private party rooms with top shelf and dinner. St James, appeared to have about the same deal but for well drinks and frozen appetizers. I booked anyway because I work at NYU Langone Long Island right near there. Despite my effort to communicate with the party planner (MICHELLE) about tip being included and a final price for the bill, I was avoided and ignored the entire night. When the bill came. They charged ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY DOLARS PER PERSON including a 1,000 tip, on top of what I already collected extra from co workers, on top of filling the tip jar they left out multiple times. For WELL DRINKS and pretzel bites/nachos. 160 PER PERSON. I read the party menu and missed the part that it was 15$ pass around apps, per person (and in small print) "PER HOUR." Mind you they did not pass around anything l, they left them out in trays. If it were communicated with me, I would have said no refills thats absurd, just 1 hour and leave the trays. Any considerate human party planner would have said this was not needed as soon as she saw no one was eating or even prior to that. But she intentionally lead me to that ridiculous option without explaining and intentionally avoided me all night to get a bigger tip. So we were charged an extra 60 per person for just appetizers that were barely touched. The planner came out apparently and threw a few extra apps on top of the already COMPLETELY FULL TRAYS every hour and ran away, Instead of just speaking to me. it was a sketchy dupe job and they would not accommodate us despite the clear massive overcharge for what we were shafted with. So I am currently requesting my co-workers DOUBLE of what they paid because my dispute was declined. I never write bad reviews, this really hurt me. Do not give this place your money they are slimy people. Any nice workers or good workers there can blame the party planners for this review. Also the beer taps are never clean, the burgers are always burnt to a crisp when ordered medium rare, and the food is WAY OVERPRICED. Stay away. read more

I was getting my nails done at Next Door when I spotted a familiar face that beckoned me to come in. It always starts with, "Let's just have one drink," and despite my better judgment, I stepped inside. Rich bartender was incredible. I ran into a few acquaintances and we started chatting. Yesterday myself and my cousin stopped by the popular St James for lunch.Both the exterior and interior are quite nice.They have a full and vivacious bar.The dining is separated from the bar.They have a lot space for eating including an outside area, nice for large parties. The food is good and the server was very helpful.I I had Minestrone soup and the Shepard Pie. They have plenty TV's for the games.Parking is curbside but there are big parking lots near.St James has been a staple in Mineola for a long time right by the NYU Long Island Hospital campus.This is a fine Irish pub. I came here for a quick drink, it's a little off the beaten path but seemed fine. The crowd was there. Apparently this place has new renovations but i've never been to the old st james so I can't comment on them. it seems busy, big dividing beams or walls separate bar area and dining area. There are a lot of saints out there, but one that I always hear about is St. James. On Long Island you'll find that name all over, between the hamlet/town, brewery, and a few restaurants. This (or The) St. James happens to be located in Mineola and was dinner for my girlfriend and I a few weeks ago. The consensus was this St. did a bang up job. For starters, The St. James totally taps into that tavern/pub feel. The decor and setup is cozy and there's a hint of "regulars" that keep the place busy. Luckily, it wasn't too hoppin' on a Thursday night and so we sat right away. Our initial waiter came by, asked us about drinks, took our order, and then disappeared. Well, we saw him again, but in street clothes and probably at the end of his shift. A different waiter (waitress) picked up our table and was friendly enough. Part of why we came was my mother raving about their French onion soup and my girlfriend desiring it. We began with a crock of that and it definitely hit the spot with its cheesy topping and tasty broth. For main meals, the GF went for the grilled chicken tidbits and I ended up in the water with fish and chips. Her tidbit sandwich had tender chicken pieces with crispy onion straws and melted mozzarella on garlic bread. I took a bite and found it was a great combo of flavors. My fish scared me at first from its shape as they almost looked a little too formed (i.e. perhaps they were frozen), but upon first bite it tasted the exact opposite of this. Nice and flaky fish with some good tarter and fresh coleslaw on the side made for a lovely meal. Oh and don't forget the thick cut French-ish fries that came with both our meals. Overall, The St. James brought a little more meaning into the name through a delicious dinner and comfortable setting. Prices were also legitimate though we were rockin' a Groupon so many of our dollars stayed safe in our wallets. Regardless, I'd pay full price for this meal and probably will one day because a return trip is in order. Now if only they could start selling St. James beer.... read more

Food and service were terrible today. We usually go here Sunday to watch football. We've had some good times, but some horrible ones also. I'd like to start with the positives....the owner and most of the bartenders and servers are really nice, so welcoming. The owner always puts on the game for us. Our server Brian, this last time, was the rudest guy we've ever have. So condescending and apparently unhappy. After putting the game on for us, he changed the game 15 minutes later because someone wanted another game on, keep in mind they have 10 TVs! The food today was also terrible!! For brunch, we had the avocado toast and "waffle and fried chicken" (pictures attached)....it's $14 of salty guac toast and literally Eggos with chicken ($18). Came on a Saturday night around 7pm and the place was crowded! They have a bar area and the seated area separated by a wall. The hostess was very sweet and friendly. We waited about 5 min to get seated. Our table was strangely in the middle of a few other tables so not convenient having wait staff walk behind us constantly. Our server was fine but honestly not memorable. He stopped by to take our order, checked in once and gave us our bill. He was either overworked or just hates his job. Another reason for the star reduction - the food took FOREVER to come out! The waiter came in to let us know that our food should be coming out soon - 30 min after we ordered it. We had apps and a kids meal. Rule of thumb - apps and kids meals should always come first. I had a kale caesar salad - are they picking my greens from a nearby field? It shouldn't take 30-40 min for food to come out. That's just ridiculous. My kid ordered the King burger - it wasn't a hit. It was "too much meat" and the meat came out dry. He had a hard time with it... The wings were good and my salad was fine ...again the problem is lack of communication in telling us the food would take a long time to come out. Don't go if you don't eat meat. This is not a good place for vegetarians or pescatarian. When I first visited the food was good they had a salmon burger special which was good. However,after visiting 3 more times the salmon prep got worse. ...Over cooked...under cooked...no flavor. The Guinness is still good. I had high hopes, that this place would be like Bk Sweeney in terms of food. I can't believe their cook can't prepare a tasty salmon dish. No comments on the salad. I didn't want to get sick. Came here with a sizable group for drinks. Staff was very friendly. We initially ordered a pitcher of beer but realized it's actually slightly cheaper to get individual beers (there was enough for 4 beers in the pitcher for $30, but the beers were $7 each so 4 for $28 so there is no reason to get the pitcher). It was Sunday night so football was on, but the commentary played really loud. They eventually put on music after the game, but just know if the game is on you will see and hear the game. All in all, it's your typical Irish pub, conveniently located near the train station. read more

I have to echo Marisa's comment...I regret every moment of being here. Bad choice, Glo. As a bar serving bar food, I guess it might be acceptable. It's lost the pub feeling though because the walls, including in the smaller of two dining rooms, are lined with huge flat screen TVs, giant images flashing at you from every turn. It's like the monstrous offspring of crossing a traditional tavern with a sports bar. The decor was...confusing. We were seated in the central smaller dining room next to the bar. The bar crowd at happy hour was just SO loud. Seating was awkward. The abundant staff were marching up and back from the entrance to our room to the kitchen and back, nonstop through the entire meal. I've never experienced anything like this. They have access to the kitchen from the bar and from the other dining room but for reasons unknown everything had to parade past us. The food: we shared the hot pretzel appetizer and I must say it was excellent. In fact, the reason I'm giving two stars not one is on account of the pretzels. They were fresh, hot, soft, salted, and accompanied by some crazy good dark brown mustard. My husband had a 'special' that was recommended by the waitress, Irish Lamb Stew. He said it was okay. Just, you know, okay, as in edible. The same waitress recommended I get the panko chicken tacos (vs. the salad). These were so boring. They struck me as something that a kid might put together in one of her first meal prep experiences. Chopped iceberg lettuce and tomatoes, diced American cheese slices (probably Land O'Lakes) and cut up breaded chicken breast. Assembled on bland untoasted soft tacos in a way that was impossible to pick up and eat without it falling all over the place. Consdering we each had only one thin paper napkin, it was particularly challenging. Did I mention the soda was flat? No, no, and no. Wowwww St. James. I hate to say this but after coming here for some lunch we were not impressed and won't be back. Such a disappointment 'cause it used to be SO good. My mom, my aunt and myself were famished and decided to come here. It was here or Biscuits & Barbecue and I regret every bit of this meal here at The St. James. Usually come here for lunch, the service is extremely slow, food is delicious but takes 25-30 minutes to come out even when ordering simple dishes. Not the best when you're on lunch break. Not sure what the kitchen is doing back there but it always takes more then 25 minutes for a simple grilled chicken salad. The rice pilaf was under cooked white rice and the salmon was so rare it was still swimming Finally the most insulting thing was the bill. Social distancing was very comfortable, food very good, staff very friendly! In todays world The St James is a gift from God. I also had the chance to speak with the manager Liam about how much I was enjoying myself. What a polite and warm soul. I recommend the appetizer sampler so you can try a few different things but I also have never had anything that was not great from this restaurant that is under new ownership and renovated within the past 2 years I believe. I live in the city but when I go see family in Mineola The St James it is! I honestly don't think I would try anything else in fear of disappointment, which i'm sure I would be when comparing to this establishment. This is my first time at The St James in Mineola and I felt a review was necessary.. This place sparkles! I do not think there is one spec of dirt or dust anywhere in this place. Not to mention the food is delicious, the drinks are made properly, and the staff is professional and friendly. I will come back for sure. Every bar should be like this. read more
