Party of 4, came here for the Monday/Tuesday lobster dinner special (comes with a side and salad), but we didn't realize it was also restaurant week! 3 courses for $39. 3 of us has the lobster dinner (our sides were string beans, rice, broccoli) and 1 person had the restaurant week menu (fried calamari, seafood pasta fra diavolo, slice of chocolate cake). He requested a surprise birthday candle in the cake and they also put it on a plate that says happy birthday. Really nice presentation! He unfortunately didn't love their version of fra diavolo because it has a ton of peppers. Otherwise it was tasty, he just picked out most of the peppers. The seafood in it was cooked well and he said the shrimp was his favorite part. We also added extra tapas - -brussels sprouts (VERY good) -baked clams (these have stuffing with shrimp and a slice of bacon on top. So good!! We came here for dinner on a Saturday evening with friends for a birthday and had an amazing time! The staff here is very friendly and patient as we spent a good time catching up with our friends and took our time looking through the menus. The decor was very home like. Always fresh and delicious, there is consistency no matter when you go. Sebastian is usually our server and he is truly a gem. I am so happy I decided to come here for a family dinner. The service was great and the food was delicious. They get 5 stars due to their service alone. First, I would like to thank them for having lots of patience with us. Part of our party was running late and they were very accommodating and didn't rush us at all, even when it was close to closing time. Second the food was tasty and plenty. I would order different dishes and share. We ordered some tapas, patatas bravas, fried calamari, lamb chops, and shrimp. All were fresh and delicious. For entrees, we ordered their lobster dish, paella, seafood pasta. Their Paellla is really good and they give you ample protein. My family enjoyed the other dishes. Even their salad hit the spot. I have ordered catering from this restaurant a number of times and in that regard, the food is always a good value. Because of this, I wanted to try the food here dining in. We had made a reservation and upon arrival was informed there would be at least a 20 minute wait and were directed to sit at the bar. The wait for a table had to do with a party going on simultaneously. The bartender was kind and attentive. We ordered sangria that was strong, but good. As appetizers we ordered the bacon wrapped scallops, shrimp pil pil and brussel sprouts. The bacon wrapped scallops were good, the presentation could be better though. The shrimp pil pil was also good but pretty forgettable. The brussel sprouts were surprisingly my favorite however the charring and seasoning was a bit uneven, specifically resulting in some random very salty bites. At this point, we are still waiting for our table. A couple who sat at the bar maybe 15 minutes after us somehow managed to get seated before us even though we had been kind and patient with the waitress. They tried to allay us by offering us more sangria and eventually comping our drinks but I found that pretty insulting. Eventually we were seated, likely 45 minutes after our reservation time. Once seated, the service was fairly quick and the waitstaff was pleasant. Before getting seated we ordered their paella valenciana. If the paella was marketed as a seafood rice I would be on board, but paella? No. For what it was, it was just fine but it might have been the most disappointing item we had. It felt like a nicely seasoned yellow long grain rice with an assortment of proteins, no socarrat. For dessert we got the tres leches and the flan. We had sangria, to start, calamari, seafood salad, and a tower of appetizers. Our entrees ranged from Fettuccine & jumbo shrimp cognac, lamb chops, Pollo al limon, Paella, and Pollo a la sangria, and of course everything was delicious! Paella Marinera - Fairly nice portion size for 2 adults and 2 kids. I usually like the bottom of my Paella rice to have a little texture or socarrat. Not easy to do for these types of restaurants because they need to get the food out quick and don't want to risk burning the food. So risk/reward is not there for them to make the socarrat. As far as the favor and the cook of seafood it was okay. Nothing special. Churrasco Platter - Asked for medium rare and got medium rare which is good. Nice portion size for 2 adults and 2 kids. Taking my previous star down... Sorry guys. But my visit yesterday for lunch was so disappointing. Seems eating here after 1:15pm was a bad idea, the cozy dining room (first room with the burnt sienna colored walls) was full. My party of three were seated in the more formal dining room and we were the only ones there. Our waiter was less than attentive and our waters were never refilled throughout the entire lunch, we had to ask and by then, we were done eating. We ordered lunch specials as I mentioned to my companions that it was the best deal in town but to my surprise, the food was underwhelming. I had the grilled pork chop which was delicious and hot. I asked for potatoes as my side and they were neatly laid out homemade chips. My hubby ordered the Paella Valencia and his seafood was semi dry and overcooked. But my friend ordered the seafood combination on a hot place with rice on the side. The shrimps were totally overcooked and the rice was cold! And to boot, we each asked for soup with our lunches and all of our soups were lukewarm. Almost room temperature. Why was it not hot? No idea! Sangria was not good this visit either. Sad face. Early dinner at Sangria 71. Excellent service it was quiet, the restaurant was not crowded. At our table: Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Caldo Gallego, Steak Veal, side of homemade potato chips. Drink: Cosmopolitan and for dessert a tart with almond paste, delicious. To start, I have been here before and it was a pleasant experience. This time everything started out fine. Then, the waiter we had got a bit of an attitude. Our appetizer, brought by a different server, was delicious and then when my entree came, it didn't have what the menu said. I ordered a steak and it was pretty fatty, but it was supposed to come with mushrooms, peppers and onions. Since our waiter never came to check, another waitress did and when I mentioned it to her, she just looked at me and said nothing. My dinner guest ordered dessert which we split and it was not good at all. It had a very strange taste to it. We didn't finish it and asked for the check. Then the original waiter gave us the check. Since he was rude for no reason, we gave him a 15% tip, but it really should have been 10%. After this experience, we decided that we will not return anymore. The portions were very generous (and they gave us two baskets of house bread for a table of 3) and appetizers on the set menu, intended for individuals, were really large and were definitely sharable. The food though honestly wasn't that great. I tried the seafood paella and it was so over salted while peas were undercooked. No hint of saffron and rice was rather starchy. Seafood was cooked well and not overdone. The dessert was also sizeable. The set menu for dinner (appetizer, main, dessert) was $39 per head and made for a few meals after. Of the appetizers, I tried a calamari which lacked crispiness and flavor in the batter, and the fried manchego cheese with honey, which was rubbery and did not have enough honey to cut the cheese. Skirt steak was very tender and cooked as ordered. Salmon had a flaky texture and was very flavorful with the capers sauce it was served with. Chicken breast in a wine sauce was very tender and not overwhelming with the onions and mushrooms. Great experience at Sangria 71 Thursday night...I had to be in the area for a Wake and was unsure of a restaurant to grab dinner prior as I made great time from NJ Monday thru Thursday Sangria 71 offers a beautiful 3 course dinner for $39 The choices were incredible I went with their avocado salad, garlic shrimp and the Skirt Steak while my wife went with the caldo soup, fried manchego and paella The skirt steak had a $14 up charge which was well worth it, the steak had to be at least 12oz maybe more and it was cooked perfectly. The salad and soup were very good while the garlic shrimp were the best I have ever had, I was eating the sauce like soup...seriously fantastic rendition The paella was solid, the mussels were Sandy but everything else in the dish was excellent. We were very happy with how big our portions were but we felt like some of the food could've been better. The wait time between courses was a little long (we were running late for our next engagement)--especially given that I, in particular, felt like some of the seafood may have been frozen, so I don't know if the paella warranted such a long cook/wait time after the second course.
