Cheeseburger with bacon
Sarah K.

My boyfriend and I came back to celebrate his birthday on a Thursday night. We didn't make a reservation, but the wait wasn't long. We got a drink from the bar until they called us. We ordered a crab cake, a slice of bacon, a steak for two, hash browns, and creamed spinach. The crab cake was delicious and overall we enjoyed the meal. It was a lot of food, so we packed the leftovers. Then we ordered a hot fudge sundae and a key lime pie. I really like their whipped cream. It isn't overly sweet. We left full and happy. Of course, the service was great.

Seating for 10 - no problem. Food was great. Everything cooked to perfect temps. Steaks at 3 temps. Black-blue, medium and medium rare. Enjoyed the Brocoli, baked potato, German fried potatoes and the wedge salad. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Sunday Service Done Right, the best damn steak house period. We had a lot to celebrate so we came down and enjoyed a beautiful Sunday meal. Service is fantastic as always but that steak. That's a real damn meal. So glad to have been back it's been awhile.

From start to finish, its all about the service. The greetings at the front door, the waiters shaking your hand, the appropriate sizes of the tables, the constant attention. The quality of the food, drinks and desserts. Luger's always stands out in the attentive staff. I have dined at most of the steakhouse in NY and the service is never top level as Luger's. Even if its been a while since you dined there, if the previous server sees you, he will come over to greet you and remind you where you sat and welcome you back!!!

As always Peter Luger was delicious. This is my go to birthday meal. This time around we had a fantastic waiter who knew exactly what kind of angles to capture of this steak! The ambiance is nice. BE warned, if you are coming for dinner they cram you in this terrible bar space while you wait for your table. There seems to be no way to avoid this, they have a great house beer.

If we go at night, we get steak, but lunchtime means burgers. And these are so good. Unlike a diner burger, these are top notch. Mine came with a nice slice of raw onion. Hubby ordered fries with his and we split them. Mine was requested to be medium well. It came out rare. The kind waiter took it back and delivered a perfect burger. We also split a wedge salad. It was my favorite part of the meal. It comes with thick cut bacon, the sweetest cherry tomatoes, the freshest Iceberg Lettuce and Blue Cheese Dressing with tons of blue cheese. The waiter brought it out already on 2 plates for us. I could have had a whole one to myself and call it a day. I could only eat half my burger. We took it to go along with a piece of apple strudel and their world famous schlag. I don't even like whipped cream, but I could jump into a vat of schlag and be really happy. The bread basket was also a hit. It's on your table once you arrive. The table next to us didn't touch their's and I wanted to grab it when they left, but I held off - this time. I love the dark woods all over. Like an old time Library. Comfortable and beautiful. Go and experience it for yourself and bring cash. They don't take credit cards.

This restaurant is always busy, especially during the holiday season. Please note, they are cash only! We made a reservation for 2 on a Sunday evening and got seated a few mins after. They start you off with some bread, butter and their own house made sauce. We ordered the Steak for 2, Creamy Spinach, and 2 bacons. I didn't think the steak for 2 would be enough, but it was more than enough especially with other dishes and sides. The steak was cooked nicely to medium rare and was tender. For dessert, we ordered the Holy Cow which is vanilla ice cream with fudge and whipped cream. Their whipped cream is super heavy, so be sure to share this with everyone else! I would definitely come back and try their other dishes as well.

Still the best steak in ny!!! Service is amazing just like the food !! Parking lot on premises and the reservations are great usually no wait unless its a holiday!

My mom chose to come here for her birthday dinner last night so I had made us reservations. It was pretty busy. I think our server was named Francisco, he was great. The food was delicious and I think reasonably priced. Its definitely a nice place to go with your family. We had the bacon to start which was good. I think my favorite of the night was the creamed spinach, that was so good! We had the steak for two, which my mom and I could not finish. I appreciated the bread basket. My dad enjoyed his steak and french fries. We then had the homy cow sundae for dessert which was classic and delicious. Overall we left full and we definitely will come back! I want to try the onion rings next time. The table next to us got it and I was jealous haha. I definitely recommend bringing your family here for your next special occasion!

Key Lime Pie with a mountain of schlag -- the perfect finish.

Classic Luger experience. The steak for two was perfect -- charred on the outside, juicy medium rare inside. Potatoes and mushrooms hit the spot. The Negroni isn't traditional here, but it worked for me. Went easy on the bread, and the famous steak sauce goes with everything except the steak. Finished strong with the Key Lime Pie and their massive bowl of schlag -- no regrets. Old-school vibe, straightforward service, and still one of the best steakhouses in New York.

Came here on a Friday night without a reservation. Waited about 1 hour for a table. It is cash only Got the steak for 2 and ordered it medium rare. However, that's rare. I feel like for a steakhouse in which steak is their specialty, it should be perfectly cooked according to your preference. The steak is tender but isn't fully seasoned all the way. Normally, I wouldn't care as much if it's a regular restaurant but I had high expectations coming here Also got the thick cut bacon and it tasted more like ham The creamed spinach was okay. I'm not sure how to really describe it but I didn't finish it Service was good and everyone was friendly Total bill with tax and tip came out to 250

I went for an afternoon lunch with my sister. She was very eager to introduce this restaurant to me as she raved about the quality of the food at this steakhouse. We were escorted to the bar while our table was prepared. Even though, she had a reservation, it took some time so we had a couple of drinks at the bar. We ordered the ribeye steak for two and a slab of bacon to begin with. The service was very professional, and we were well looked after during our meal. The ambience of the place was busy, but not too busy for us to be disturbed by the chitchat that was going around the room. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5

I was in the neighborhood. Couldn't pass up Lugers. Made a 5 oclock reservation and was seated on time. The waiting area is kinda tight. But they have it figured out. Our waiter was great. Prompt and knowledgeable. Lots of families and birthdays. So it felt festive which is great. Got the wedge salad. I normally go tomato and onion. But wanted to try the wedge. It was good. Not great. Martinis were nice. Steak for 2. Cooked nicely. Hash browns and cream spinach. Everything was good. But not great. I would still come back. But there are better steak joints at this point

Ask the Community - Peter Luger Steak House

How is the service? I dislike paying good money for snobby attitude and being rushed out by waiters. I want an experience where I can sit down with my family and enjoy our meal.

I've heard the Brooklyn location is like that, but I always go to the Great Neck location. I always have a wonderful experience there. The waiters are friendly and willing to accommodate all your needs. If you make reservations for a weekend,… Read more

No prices on the menu. How much cash do I need to bring for dinner for two on average?

maybe $500 for two. if you're over that (drinks), they will take one debit card per table.

Would order of steak for 2 and lamb chops good for 4 persons?

The waiter will guide you. Based on people sizes and ages. Prime rib for 2 and lamb chops for 2 will feed at least 5 to 6 people.

Does this restaurant provide any cooked steak n dessert deliveries to TX through any site?

No no no

Do they charge "sharing fee" if we don't order the entree for each adults?

They charge $5.00 if you order a steak for one and two people eat it.

Does the Great Neck location require vaccination card to dine in?

No. It's not mandated on Long Island.

Are they still cash only ? Heading in tonight!

yes

Has anyone tried the take out option? Do the steaks "travel well?" Do they just throw the steaks in a styrofoam container or is it more like Goldbelly where it is professionally packed/freeze dried with cooking instructions?

I have done the takeout and it travelled pretty well (about 25 min home). The bacon was not as good as in person and the steak cooled but it was still enjoyable. Served in normal take out containers.

Do they deliver?

Yes, if you're within their delivery zone (you can find out via their website). Otherwise you can do pickup!

Do they accept credit card?

Cash Debit or Peter Lugar credit card

Do they do anything special for birthdays?

They bring you a desert with a candle on it and they sing happy birthday as well . I pulled my waiter to the side and just asked him for the dessert with the candle , no singing he happily complied

Is it wheelchair accessible?

I don't believe so. I'd call to ask whether there is a wheelchair entrance I don't know about though. Good luck.

Do i need to make a reservation even im tryin to visit by myself?

Absolutely! You definitely need a Reservation! Don't forget that they take Cash and Debit Card ONLY. No Credit cards! I hope this was helpful.

If we reserved for 5 but 1 is late. Will they not seat us? And If one out out 5 cant make it, how…

Typically no, they won't seat incomplete parties.

Do they have Happy Hour?

No, but every hour spent at Luger's is a happy hour

They don't serve filet mignons?

They don't have a separate filet mignon on the menu but the steak for 2, the porterhouse, includes a filet mignon. One side of the T-bone is filet mignon and the other side is a NY strip.

How is this location compared to BK?

The Queens location is more upscale and sophisticated. The Brooklyn location is "divey" and feels weird to dress up there. Both locations have excellent food, both are very pricey. Queens has better service. Brooklyn feels like the server hurries… Read more

How do they do with large parties/private banquets?

Not good, too expensive

They are attentive and courteous, even when they are super busy. They expanded their menu since they renovated the interior. I still stick for the classic Greek fare like chicken souvlaki and gyros. Their French fries are soo good! Their breakfast omelet with home fries are also so good. My friend said Louie's eggs Benedict is the best and therefore she never orders it anywhere else. Highly highly recommend! Owned by a lovely family!

Omelet & Home Fries desperately needed seasoning on all levels. Chicken and Lemon Rice Soup was adequately flavored with a nice pucker but the Olive Oil used was flowery and overpowered the delicacy of this soup. The Grilled Chicken Salad (lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes) on it's own was DELISH. The Caesar dressing that was different but edible, a little on the sweet and thin side. Thankfully, had some Homemade Caesar at home to compensate. Also, had a TEC (Turkey, freshly sliced off the bone, Egg (scrambled), and Cheese (Cheddar) on a large, pillowy roll. Enjoyable. Service...1 person put a SOUR taste in our mouths. Was immediately greeted by everyone, except the older lady who was supposed to take our order. We LITERALLY stood in front of the register for almost 10 minutes, while she greeted and helped EVERYONE around, on the side & behind us. An older jovial man finally greeted us and was apologetic and swift. If it wasn't for the long morning and afternoon we had, we would've taken our money elsewhere! It stayed busy and packed so get there early. They do try to be efficient when seating. Overall, we could give them another opportunity to see if the "selective service" by that 1 team member was a one-off! Street parking.

Imagine the sound decimal of Applebees. However it's not off putting more so welcoming so as to not make you feel uncomfortable in an environment that is just the cutting of steaks. I don't remember how the food was because I don't recall being able to taste anything. Well we've been told we needed to try it so we finally did. Daughter and hubby are big foodies and love steak so we took the plunge. We started with a Caesar salad, tuna tartare and melon prosciutto. The Caesar dressing was thinner than expected so the salad felt it was covered in liquid rather than a dressing. Taste was fine but not necessarily Caesar like. The tuna tartare needed the wasabi sauce to flavor the fish. Favorite app was the Melon with prosciutto. The melon was refreshing and sweet and paired really well with the salty meat. We then ordered the porterhouse for 3 medium rare, baked potato and creamed spinach. I guess we're used to a more buttery and moist steak, the steak temperature was right but hubby and daughter had to salt it which I rarely see them do at high end steak houses. We enjoyed the creamed spinach. Hubby ordered coffee and we shared a pecan pie Ala mode which we finished. All in all I couldn't give 4 stars because I won't choose to return. There was a rotating staff service, dirty appetizer dishes and service was not very attentive. I know people love this place but I just couldn't get there...
