a variety of foods in a styrofoam container

Tofubox has always been a staple of mine. Vegan and a well balanced meal for anyone who wants a taste of Chinese food. This place offers crispy tofu, spicy tofu, braised tofu, and any sorts of tofu imaginable hence its name, Tofubox. The ambience is very quiet with a couple of tables and retro chairs. There's a rail on your way up to the counter and ordering is pretty simple. They have lunch box sets where you can choose which tofu and rice you want. They have purple or brown rice for you to choose, which is very healthy. I usually get the crispy tofu lunch box set with purple rice. This set includes sweet potatoe fries, purple rice, crispy tofu, broccoli, and seitan! So healthy! I love the purple rice a lot and how it's cooked! Not too dry or wet. The tofu is crispy and skin is always separating. Fries are kind of on the soft side. Wish it was harder! Broccoli is steamed so it's very healthy! Overall, a good healthy option for anyone who is trying to maintain their health and weight.

    Mock beef summer rolls

Out and about in Williamsburg before hitting Haven, my friend and I decided to fuel up on some vegetarian dim sum. Tofubox is geared towards takeout/delivery, with just a couple small tables inside. The menu is pretty expansive, covering meatless versions of typical dim sum staples. We snagged an order of sweet potato spring rolls, mock beef summer rolls, and a steamed dumpling combo. This turned out to be considerably more food than we expected, but made for good leftovers. The spring rolls were piping hot and crisp, filled with a a springy filling not unlike mochi and covered with shredded coconut. The summer rolls were fresh, but packed too loosely, leading the rolls to fall apart. The dumplings had a tasty, savoury hit with fillings of veggies (bok choi + shitake), tofu, and egg & tomato. Worth a repeat visit

My old phone can't do justice to the skewer but you need to try it.

Opted for the double-cooked pork this time, and it offered a stunning impersonation of the original, with an assertive medium-spice sauce. Tofubox isn't content to get by with Nice Try Vegan Chicken Nuggets. Exploring vegetarian spots for curiosity rather than necessity, I've often encountered situations where, say, a jackfruit sandwich is just fine, but I'm still full after spending $20. Tofubox, however, offers a surprisingly good value proposition. If you're reading this review you're not a regular yet and thus should start out with a box set, preferably Box Set B.

My favorite place in the neighborhood to get vegetarian food! Super tasty, affordable, huge portions, friendly service....I mean, there is nothing missing from this experience. I highly recommend the kung pao chicken bento box. As a meat eater, I did not miss the meat.

    Drunken seitan with visible vegetables

Some of the best seitan I have ever had. I was also excited to see vegan soup dumplings because I wasn't sure if I'd ever get to try them. They were delicious. The mochi dumplings were also awesome - hot and light and flavorful. The service was very good and food was excellent. No notes. Everything was delicious and perfect. The iced tea was also enjoyable. This was an unplanned stop - just looking for something near Metropolitan Station and this was perfect. 10 out of 10, would recommend.

This is a super unassuming place in Williamsburg and it surprisingly has a small indoor seating area. Everything is super informal here - everything is served in disposable plastic containers and the waitress serves both the tables and the take out counter. Everything is almost vegan (including the noodles and "meat"). It had a great MaLa flavor and I liked everything we had. Pretty cheap overall too for the portions. Sweet Potato Spring Rolls ($6.50) - comes with 4 pieces. Honestly looked unappetizing when it came, but was actually great. Outside is perfectly crispy and the sweet potato on the inside was soft. Best eaten warm though, the texture is off when it cools down Double cooked pork slices ($13.50), crispy tofu box ($14.50) - these honestly tasted the same but with different proteins. The crispy tofu was so good, very flavorful and crisp. Buddha's Delight ($13.50) - this was your standard pan fried noodles. The flavor was good.

    General Tso's tofu box
    Alan S.

Excellent takeout option in Williamsburg! I love the vegetarian-friendly variation on the bento box theme, and all of the many varieties of tofu and seitan I've tried here have been delicious. My favorite was the tofu puff - so soft that it melts in your mouth! Plus it's served with my favorite mushroom, "mu-er" (wood ear). Although if you feel like a guilty pleasure on a given evening, the cherry-red General Tso's tofu is your move. Drunken seitan is also perfectly crispy and a repeat order.

I too am Chinese and love eating animal protein, but you'll want to set your prejudices aside for Tofubox because they are making delicious, healthy Chinese dishes. I liked the mapo tofu and Buddha's delight. Great service too!

I was super excited to come here for a quick lunch because of the rave reviews. Maybe I didn't order the right thing, but I am disappointed. I got the Box A spicy ssamjang with braised tofu and what I got was just a box of sautéed vegetables and flavorless soft tofu. No sauce, no nothing. As you can see from the picture, where is the ssamjang? Where is that glorious thick sauce? The tofu was barely coated in anything, so nothing had much flavor. While the food wasn't bad, it wasn't worth the trip or money. The rest of the menu looked good though, and judging by other reviews maybe I came on an off day. Who knows.

Are all the vegan items orange chicken, loaded fries, and tofu curry or are there other items that just aren't labeled vegan by chance?

I just visited the restaurant and almost all of the dishes are vegan, except a few dishes that include eggs. Hope this answers your question.

The food here genuinely surprised me because everything came out super fresh and hot. We ordered a BUNCH of dishes that I lost track of taking pictures, but a few really stood out. The steamed spare ribs were hot, tender, and flavorful; the taro pieces mixed in were great too. The chicken feet were cut in half for convenience and the taste and texture were spot on. The hargow surprised me with filling that was mostly shrimp which is sometimes too much to ask for sadly. My favorite might've been the honeycomb tripe (not the one in the stew). It came out steaming and had that ideal bounce without being chewy, I'm pretty sure I cleaned more than half of it. Overall, the freshness and heat of every dish made a huge difference. The restaurant had a great vibe and service was good although they accidentally charged us an extra order of chicken feet (which was resolved when we pointed it out). Definitely worth checking out if you're craving dim sum in the city.

However, the real negative here is the operations. It is a chaotic mess for the volume they are trying to do. It's not about adding more manpower, it's about streamlining. The Yelp waitlist is useless here - wait was supposed to be 5-10 minutes and it turned into almost 40. All this could have been avoided with more planning, better organization, and training. Went here on a Thursday night to catch up with some friends. I'm not really a big sushi person, but…read moreI've been giving it more of a chance lately. The ambiance is calm and cozy -- definitely a good spot whether you're grabbing a couple drinks, a quick bite, or sitting down for a full dinner. I ordered the Joker roll, and that's where things started to click for me with sushi. The tuna and avocado paired with the spicy red sauce really made it stand out -- honestly tasted great and something I'd get again. Also had the Mongolian steak with rice, which was another highlight. Presentation was fire -- it comes out still heating on a hot platter, which makes the whole experience feel elevated. Flavor matched the presentation too. Service was solid overall, no real issues there. The only downside was with a deal they were advertising ("3 for $33"). It was shown on their website and even posted outside the restaurant, which was actually one of the main reasons we chose the spot. When we tried to use it, we were told they weren't honoring it that night and that the deal had been causing them to lose money. I understand adjusting pricing if something isn't working, but if that's the case, the promotion should be removed or clearly communicated ahead of time. Having it still advertised and then not honoring it was frustrating and took away from the experience. Overall: good food, nice vibe, and a solid option in Brooklyn -- just make sure to double-check any deals before going.

They promote happy hour and it's good but, I'm going to say it "They SHOW NOTHING BUT, SPORTS Channels" Like it's so annoying. Ok but the food is really good, the fried rice is everything. All of them. And the happy hour menu you CAN NOT TOP prices awesome. Service is amazing as well, I mean they put up with me bitching about the TV all the time. And the worst part is that I bring my phone to watch. So am I just bitching... ugh Anyway see yall in a few weeks
