Oh what a cool menu! We mainly looked at the box sets. They have two options on box sets for "sides". Option A has broc, crispy mushrooms on cauliflower, rice and sweet potato fries. For 75 cents more, Option B swaps out those fries for 2 soy nuggets and a mini mushroom skewer. Hands down pay the 75 cents and get Option B! We got the crispy tofu box and the drunken seitan box. Also an order of avocado summer rolls and loaded fries (crinkle cut, veggie bacon, minced bell peppers, garlic and onion). The crispy tofu was good- large chunks of tofu- crispy outside with soft inside and a slightly sweet dipping sauce. The drunken seitan was a homerun! Crispy chunks of seitan lightly tossed in a flavorful sauce that had us wanting more. The fries were cooked perfectly and the flavors of the minced toppings allowed for a nice pop as we chowed down. The avocado rolls were gigantic and the dipping sauce that came with these was so good we dipped everything in it. Now these sides- broc was steamed with a nice sesame oil kick, the skewers would easily fool you- they didnt look like mushrooms and the cumin seasoning was a nice touch. The crispy mushrooms could star on their own by the plate full. Our rice was purple and had a nice nutty flavor- would prefer white rice and may ask for that next time. Lovely staff and food comes out fairly quickly. Loved the box concept as we got a nice variety of things to try! We cant wait to go back as this is now near the top of some of our favorite vegetarian spots in the city. read more

Out and about in Williamsburg before hitting Haven, my friend and I decided to fuel up on some vegetarian dim sum. Tofubox is geared towards takeout/delivery, with just a couple small tables inside. The menu is pretty expansive, covering meatless versions of typical dim sum staples. We snagged an order of sweet potato spring rolls, mock beef summer rolls, and a steamed dumpling combo. This turned out to be considerably more food than we expected, but made for good leftovers. The spring rolls were piping hot and crisp, filled with a a springy filling not unlike mochi and covered with shredded coconut. The summer rolls were fresh, but packed too loosely, leading the rolls to fall apart. The dumplings had a tasty, savoury hit with fillings of veggies (bok choi + shitake), tofu, and egg & tomato. We ordered delivery from here. I was in the mood for vegetarian food. Chinese vegetarian food has always been surprisingly good with amazing places like Buddha Bodhai and Spicy Moon. Spicy moon is my absolute favorite. The menu was extensive so it was hard to figure out what to order. I got the fried vegetarian dumplings. They were ok. I prefer more chives in my dumplings than what they put in theirs. We split the Mapo Tofu which was delicious. We also got the crispy tofu box which came with an eclectic array of side dishes including crispy fried tofu with a sweet shell, broccoli, cauliflower, rice, fried "chicken nuggets" and different types of mushrooms. I really liked the variety. I probably wouldn't come out of my way to eat here but it would remain a good option if I was in the neighborhood or am within deliverable distance. This is a super unassuming place in Williamsburg and it surprisingly has a small indoor seating area. Everything is super informal here - everything is served in disposable plastic containers and the waitress serves both the tables and the take out counter. Everything is almost vegan (including the noodles and "meat"). It had a great MaLa flavor and I liked everything we had. Pretty cheap overall too for the portions. Sweet Potato Spring Rolls ($6.50) - comes with 4 pieces. Honestly looked unappetizing when it came, but was actually great. Outside is perfectly crispy and the sweet potato on the inside was soft. Best eaten warm though, the texture is off when it cools down Double cooked pork slices ($13.50), crispy tofu box ($14.50) - these honestly tasted the same but with different proteins. Tofubox is now in my regular, I don't feel like cooking today but I want something healthy to eat for delivery option. My go-to favorite order is the braised tofu box, which didn't come with purple rice the first time I ordered, but the brown rice was excellent. Excellent takeout option in Williamsburg! I love the vegetarian-friendly variation on the bento box theme, and all of the many varieties of tofu and seitan I've tried here have been delicious. My favorite was the tofu puff - so soft that it melts in your mouth! Plus it's served with my favorite mushroom, "mu-er" (wood ear). I got the Box A spicy ssamjang with braised tofu and what I got was just a box of sautéed vegetables and flavorless soft tofu. No sauce, no nothing. As you can see from the picture, where is the ssamjang? Where is that glorious thick sauce? The tofu was barely coated in anything, so nothing had much flavor. The added benefit of dating someone who's addicted to DoorDash is that I get to sample restaurants in many neighborhoods I would otherwise have trouble traveling to. By far the best outcome of this situation is when I came home to my sweetie and her biffles eating Tofubox. They don't eat much at a time cause they're dainty so that means I come in for the delicious rescue. Her friend got the Gen Tso's Tofu, which yeah it's the best replica of general tso's chicken as you can get with tofu. That's my favorite dish in normal takeout, and this tastes leagues ahead of bad general tso's. Trust me, I'm from the Bronx, so I know where the good hood spots are. But what really takes the vegetarian cake is the Spicy Braised Tofu. I legitimately thought this was pork. Not the lean parts of the pork but the fatty gelatinous tendon parts. I know it's not pork and I'm still not convinced. I would very easily make the switch to tofu if this becomes a thing and I'm convinced a lot of other people would too, if they gave this a try. I was intrigued by Tofubox having a 5.0 rating and over 100 reviews -- although I am a self-proclaimed huge chicken and protein fan, I was EXTREMELY impressed by how filling and generously-portioned the meals were! We ordered box B8 (broccoli, rice, mixed veggies, tofu), spicy tofu dim sum (6 large tofu dumplings in a hot chili oil soup sauce), the sesame tofu (comes with broccoli and delicious purple rice), and an iced tea. Came out to $42 including tax -- and got an iced tea on the house as they wanted us to try it. The female employee was delightful and the food came FAST. This place is so Effin delicious. Hole in the wall with the most insane Szechuan tofu. Can't really help you with any other dishes, because I've been eating this nonstop since discovering it and haven't really strayed. I've also tried the green onion pancake (the best I've ever had), even as delivery/takeout. Incredibly crisp after the trip. My least favorite though on my bout of an overeating dinner was the chili oil wontons. Overall, good but it's pooled in more of a soup than an oil. Much prefer the oil. So disappointing--I really liked certain dishes at this place. The Singapore noodles and the tofu boxes are superb. But I wanted to get a "healthier" dish tonight and ordered the spicy pot tofu/veggies through Seamless and it was inedible. Attached a pic of what they showed (top photo) vs what the dish came as. The entire dish is bright red oil from top to bottom, all the tofu and veggies are soggy from it. Called Seamless and they called Tofubox who refused to refund this dish. So they don't take customer feedback and just lost a customer. I don't think anyone finds a pot of oil appetizing. read more

I'm really glad I finally checked out this place after living down the street from it since it opened a few years ago! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the Lunch special meal (Drunken Seitan) I got was very reasonably priced and delicious! The seitan, bok choy (i asked for it instead of the broccoli), and purple rice are really amazing. I didn't care much for the salad part but I feel that way about most Lunch special side salads.
