Wild Ginger - Asian Fusion Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I brought my bestie here based on reviews I saw ages ago. They were good at the time. However, recently, based on our experience, the place and food was not as expected. Since we already sat down and were quickly served water, we decided to stay and give it a try, even though as soon as we reviewed the menu we noticed that there was no meat. For reference: we were the only ones there. Occasionally people would peek and pass by, but no one came here to eat. The tofu (designed to taste like meat) still tasted like tofu. I ordered a salad and it was nothing special - something I could easily have made myself. No special design or anything to make it worth what we paid. My bestie ordered some noodles with some "meat-like" tofu and vegetables. Her dish was literally 90% noodles, 5% tofu that tasted like tofu and 5% vegetables. She was really unhappy. As we ate, there was a loud noise - someone listening to a game on a tv in the background and we couldn't enjoy the background music, nor our conversations. There appeared to be one or two people on staff, and no one came around to check on us. We wound up going to the counter to pay, to save on time, and to go get a burger from a spot we noticed one block away. Overall, the food tasted fine, but it didn't match the reviews I had previously seen for here. There was a time when I was on a vegan kick, and that's probably why I saved this place, but even from a vegan's viewpoint, I was extremely disappointed. Happy eats! read more

Wild Ginger is located between Driggs & Bedford Avenues on N 10th St. in Brooklyn. This Vegan Chinese-Thai restaurant serves up some delicious, savory, delicately prepared food that you would swear you're eating non-vegan food. The Miso Soup, Rolls, Salad, Chicken, Rice, etc., were all mouthwatering & delicious. The staff is courteous, friendly & quick. The ambiance is casual, quiet yet elegant & tasteful. Good for intimate dining as well as group & family dining. I'll definitely be making the trip back to eat here again. read more

I already knew Williamsburg has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to dining choices, but it was the first time Jamie W. and I walked on Bedford Avenue. We were tempted by several choices after crossing the Williamsburg Bridge and traipsing through Domino Park. This pan-Asian vegan restaurant is actually on North 10th Street a half-block away from Bedford. A local vlogger in Brooklyn recommended it, and well, we wanted to have a healthy lunch since we had been gluttons on our vacation. Overall our choices were OK but definitely not outstanding. We shared an order of the $8.50 Seitan Skewers with Satay Sauce (photo: https://yelp.to/LzNm8onMVD). Shaped into spheres like meatballs, the consistency was "meaty" and the sauce helped heighten the flavor. Neither of us cared much for the $7.50 BBQ Vegan Ribs which were slices of soy protein covered in a too-sweet citrus sauce (photo: https://yelp.to/K5ZEpY0Hhr). The $10.50 Avocado Salad was pretty decent with vegan cheese, cucumber, and a carrot ginger dressing (photo: https://yelp.to/dHuxlnduVc). The $3.50 Miso Mushroom Soup was satisfying (photo: https://yelp.to/ohErzvD2dH), though we just found our overall meal less than memorable. FOOD - 3 stars...rather unmemorable vegan fare though not for lack of trying AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious enough SERVICE - 3.5 stars...on the quiet side TOTAL - 3 stars...need to be choosier about which vloggers I can trust RELATED - Exploring Brooklyn? Food was ordered at 5:53pm. When I first called at around 7pm to check on the order, she couldn't find it. Then miraculously she found the order and stated that it was being prepared. When I called again at 8:10pm, now the excuse was that she was waiting for the delivery person. At 8:25pm, I called to ask if I could pick the food up. After much discussion with the "chef" that I could not understand, I was told yes. I arrived at 8:40pm. $152. Terrible service. NO stars. read more

Honestly, I'm very mad at the reviews on this place. I was confident when I looked at peoples pictures and I read reviews and it seemed like everyone was very satisfied with this place. Me and my husband decided to give this place a try and it was horrible. I ordered the soy nuggets and a mixed green salad. Those were the worst nuggets I have ever experienced. They were soggy and weird and too soft in the middle, then they had big pieces of edamame in it. The sauce that came with the nuggets were also just yucky. I was not that mad at that, I was like OK just not for me so let me just get a big green salad. He said they had a very good mango dressing to go with it. When he brought that salad out it looked beautiful with the variety of all types of greens but that sauce tasted horrible! It was like they just took mango juice and just poured it all over the salad. My husband ordered the basil soy and a spring roll with a ginger tea. He can eat anything but he couldn't finish this. The spring rolls was just full of cold thick cut vegetables. He also offered basil soy ,the vegetables was not fresh. It looked like it was some leftover vegetables they threw together. I would never go back here again and I suggest no one else does because I don't know what happened that day, but it was horrible. read more

While this is not my first visit not even my second but I will say it will be my last. I have never come to this establishment and been dissatisfied as I am right now at this current moment. First my guest and I were seated for (first time visitor) about 5-7 mins before the waiter came to ask if there was something he could get us after serving guest that came in after us, then failed to inform my guest that the order she ordered was served with cold broccoli under hot shrimp, I then watched the waiter take a hand full of broccoli using no gloves and put in the microwave and brought to my guest, what kind of mess is that...also she ordered a cup of coffee which took all of 20 mins to get her. If people of color are not welcomed any longer in your establishment maybe that should be made known! In conclusion like I stated earlier this will probably be my last visit and judging from the treatment I'm sure it doesn't matter... read more

I really enjoyed the food here. The mushroom dish was really cool and unlike anything I've had before. The soy protein dish was good but I personally found the sauce to be overwhelming but the texture of the soy was great. Not pictured was the miso soup and brown rice it came with, both of which were great. I would come back here. 2 entrees was about $41 read more

Finding good vegan food that has both clean ingredients and amazing taste is difficult in my opinion so when I saw the reviews on wild ginger I had to experience it for myself. For starters we had tom yum soup, crispy soy protein nuggets and the bbq vegan ribs. For our main dish we ordered Thai basil fried rice along with Malaysian Curry Stew and basil soy protein. Then ended with the pumpkin cheesecake and peanut butter bomb. My favorites were the crispy so protein nuggets cause it literally almost tasted just like a chicken nugget and the sauce that came with it was delicious. Basil soy protein which has so much flavor and just the right amount of veggies to so protein and the peanut butter bomb. I am big into dessert and the peanut butter bomb was just the perfect touch to satisfy my sweet tooth. Now the rest of the food was just as equally amazing and to top it off the service was impeccable. We were greeted with a friendly smile and the waiter was very helpful in helping us decide what was the best dishes in the menu. The food portion was plenty and the price affordable. The food came out in a timely fashion and the atmosphere was calming and inviting. Overall we had an amazing time and will definitely be back again. read more

This is an all vegan restaurant with tons of options on its expansive menu. The orange seitan is an absolutely delicious option that tastes just like its chicken-based counterpart. The sauce is sweet and spicy, comes with rice and soup. The inside is standard, it's seems like a lot of locals in Williamsburg order takeaway from here. read more

One of the greatest vegan Asian restaurants in NY city , food is fantastic, prices average. Im eating over there as often as I can

Just visited again on Saturday for the first time in such a long time. Everything was fresh and delicious. I love that everything is 100% Vegan. I really hope they evolve, and add more items to their menu. The Vegan scene is constantly changing, it would be wonderful to see new items on the menu, new desserts on the menu also. We got the Red curry Seitan, It was delicious , but it was missing the vegetables eggplant, cauliflower , just FYI. General Tso's Soy Protein , amazing! and crispy soy protein nuggets w/ plum sauce, also a Wonton soup. everything was fresh, and tasty. We will be back again soon!!!!! Ps. everything is served in plastic containers, due to Covid19, the staff, cleans and sanitizes after each customer. Thank you read more

Always good vegan food. Try the peanut butter bomb for dessert! Great lunch special.

I went to this establishment last week. I was unaware that it was vegan, but when I asked the waiter what dish she recommended as their signature dish, she paused and did not have an answer. That was not a good way to start off this experience, but I was told to go with the Thai Basil Fried Rice and I ordered vegetable dumplings as an appetizer. I said I like my food Thai hot, but I don't think this place is Thai owned. I will explain why in a moment. It's Covid times and it's not like they were busy, so I waited a very long time to get the above simplistic dishes. Only one take-out order was prepared during my wait time. I waited about 20 mins for my order, which is unusual considering how dead it was there. Back to my order, if this was a Thai owned place, they would NOT use Sriracha sauce into the rice to spice it up. Sriracha is NOT Thai, nor will it ever be. I get my dumplings - 20 mins later and they were ok. Not hot, but warm. Another 15 mins and the Thai fried rice came out. Talk about unimpressed......it was over $ 11.00 for rice infused sriracha with corn, some carrots and peas and diced tofu. All in all....wackness. I saw maybe 3 pieces of basil, but that was it for a vegan dish. No substantial veggies ie broccoli or spinach for this vegan dish. I would not recommend this place. If anyone wants to recommend a fantastic vegan place to eat at, I'm willing to try it out. I love veggies, but I can make better fried rice that this. read more

Food was good but it was thrown off by being to covid friendly/conservative. Everything good item was in plastic to go containers. Plastic utensils. Only outdoor seating, which was uncomfortable. The in house dining experience was o overshadowed by being to careful. I just wasn't feeling the all plastic everything. A free appetizer came up on my Yelp upon checking in, the server said that it was old and no longer applicable. Like I said the food was good, the service was above average. I'll maybe go back if I'm around that neighborhood, but won't go out of my way to go there, like I do other places I like. Very average dining experience. read more

There's a reason why vegan stalwart Wild Ginger has been in business for so many years. It is awesome. Their new location on North 10th is even better and more aesthetically pleasing. My family (mostly huge meat eaters) and I have been eating/ordering from Wild Ginger for years. The food ranges from extremely healthy to hearty, rich and decadent. My favorite dish which I have probably ordered 7 times in a row is sauteed organic tofu and mixed vegetables with gluten free white sauce. The white sauce actually tastes much better than the regular brown sauce. I noticed the portion sizes seem to be better when ordering delivery versus dining in though. Other favorite dishes are seitan skewers, cilantro tofu, malaysian curry stew, and all of their dessert cakes (which are from the incredible bakery Vegan Treats). These dishes all have gluten though. The servers are very knowledgable about the menu and they can tell you which dishes are gluten free or can be served gluten free - There are many. read more

Love this restaurant, the food is always fresh and delicious! Last time I came I had the Lemongrass Soy Protein, I strongly recommend it, very flavorful, light but filling at the same time. The Soy is served over a bed of steamed shitake mushroom, bell pepper, zucchini and carrot, with a pretty little flower in the corner or the plate. Im not vegan or vegetarian however I still enjoy coming here and trying a variety of dishes. The interior is nice, clean and inviting. The entrees are reasonably priced with good sized potions. Waitress was friendly and attentive, I stopped in on Sunday around 6 and the restaurant was surprisingly empty. read more

This is a new place in Williamsburg and I was there for lunch on Christmas Eve. The place was pretty empty as expected, and we enjoyed a quiet time and good service. We selected 2 options from the lunch menu which was really cheap and worth it, and we added avocado salad. Then when I checked in on Yelp we received also free edamame - so eventually we had a huge meal. Taste wise - was good. Quality - high. Location - prime Venue - cool. read more

Went there for lunch with my girlfriend. It's a pleasant cozy restaurant with adequate decor not overdone unlike most Asian restaurants. The place is beautiful and clean . We ordered two different kind of Sake(Japanese wine). The mango one was refreshing and smooth . For appetizers we ordered mango rolls which was great. They have very reasonable lunch special deals. We ordered- eggplant and beans in garlic sauce and my friend ordered tofu cutlets with spicy sauces. The lunch special comes with Miso soup, veggie roll and brown rice. The portions are good and nicely presented. I loved how clean and simple the decor was with good service! Our server was sweet. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

I only gave this one star because I had to. Extremely POOR and inhospitable service. We arrived to find the restaurant empty on a Saturday 9/21 at 1:00 pm. We were a party of 4 (2 adults, 1 kid and 1 high chair) we ordered an abundance of food as we were all planning to share. Aside from the lackluster, inattentive service we had to respectively send the Pad Thai back as it was flavorless. The server before taking it back to the kitchen asked what we didn't like about it (normal). He then proceeded to bring the same plate back and said the chef said "this is one of our top sellers. Try squeezing lime on it" (not normal!) How Unprofessional is that? I spent 4 years in fine dining restaurant management and that is a NO NO. They forgot to bring out our rice and spinach Shumai, then dropped the check without asking if we needed anything else (and we were celebrating a birthday at the table). Needless to say we were ready to leave. The shumai (which we never received ) and the pad Thai (which we took 1 bite and sent back) were both on the check. We then had to waste another 5 min speaking to a rude manager (female, ponytail, glasses) who apparently understood English but surprisingly didn't know how to respond so she told her employee "we made the food for you so we'll give you a discount " as she snickered behind the counter. Not looking me in the eye once. I told her she was to remove the Schumaj and pad Thai as we did not receive or consume it. Subpar service would be a compliment. Do not give these people/this restaurant business. read more

I apologize sincerely if this review is premature, but I just ordered from this place on seamless for the first time and it was the most disgusting meal I've ever ordered in the city of New York..ever.. in all 5 boroughs. The dish was the cilantro tofu..the taste itself was OKAY (nothing special by any means and nothing I would ever want to reorder) If nothing else was wrong with the dish..I would've moved on..kissed the $18 I spent goodbye and get on with life and stick to the two places I use when I order takeout for a treat once in a while. The problem and reason why this won the distinction of the worst meal I've ever had from takeout was how it was presented and texture and gradient of the various ingredients which is ironic because I like many others do not and should not care about that kind of stuff., but this was the first time it ever bothered me. This dish is $15 and truly is gross. Everything from the size of the pieces of bean curd, seitan to the (canned I believe) miniature mushrooms resembling micro penises (shiitake my a**..update your menu) to the red and green diced peppers swimming in goo brown sauce resulted in the least visually pleasing dish I've ever seen in my life. Every ingredient (red, green and brown) used in this dish is cut into miniature (identical sized) pieces and all just swim in tasteless brown goo, think alphabet soup but replace the noodles with the tofu. I am someone who doesn't give a fuc* about visual presentation with food..but this literally looked like wholesale vomit. No idea how it has such positive reviews, it's a little weird unless I literally picked their worst dish.. or modern day Williamsburg yuppies are just very easy to please.. not sure read more

I love Wild Ginger. I usually can't eat at most Asian-style and Asian cuisine places because I have a shellfish allergy and most broths use shellfish shells and have bad cross-contamination practices, but Wild Ginger has allowed me experience food I wouldn't otherwise be able to eat! Super good!! I Really enjoy this place and look forward to trying something different..

Found this spot in Yelp. The whole restaurant is vegan Thai/Chinese food. I'm not much into vegan food, but my friends are and this place was perfect. TBH the vegan wonton soup with spinach tasted better than regular wonton soup with pork. I was pleasantly surprised. They also had a great check in offer for edamame. Will get an entree next time to really test the menu. read more

Ok: this place is really good. The food was flavorful and tasty. There's a wide variety of things to order on the menu--I actually felt kinda overwhelmed by choice, which is unusual for me as a vegan! I got the papaya salad which was crisp and refreshing, as well as the tofu nuggets which were GOOD. Finding well prepared tofu is a challenge, and wild ginger nailed it. My friend got the mango scallion pancake which was also delicious. I'd definitely order it myself. For my friends out there with hyperacusis/audio processing disorders/tinnitus: this place is pretty quiet. They played 2000s pop music softly in the background (around 70 dBs) This places seems fairly accessible to me, since you don't need to walk up stairs or anything. There's also a clean, gender neutral restroom in the back. So yeah! Definitely worth checking out. read more
