So this is a cute little Taiwanese restaurant. The food is okay, price is good. Spicy-ness pretty strong especially the spicy wonton. This place has some seriously tasty eats for a decent price. I can order the braised pork on rice and a large hot tea for about ten bucks after you add the tax. Not bad. Also I think their minced pork on mushroom is under 6 bucks! And it comes with a stewed egg, pickled mustard greens, and rice. I have yet to try their famous stink tofu.:P read more

Tiny parking lot. I imagine it can be a nightmare to get into during peak hours. Prices and food is very reasonable. Ordered the minced pork rice is quite good. Pork is cut instead of ground (like other places) and includes some shitake mushrooms mixed in - overall very traditional and yummy. Also ordered the stinky tofu - smelly and crispy as it should be. Garlic sauce is pretty good as well. The kitchen included is more sweet than spicy. Also, the stinky tofu is not in cube form - the thinner (but wider) slices probably cook faster thus the faster turn around time. Good authentic Taiwanese food, but another cash only place that's hard for someone like me that rarely carry cash. They tend to use garlic on almost all of their sauces which I like but my wife is very sensitive to the smell. I've been to a lot of taiwanese places and this place is on the bottom of my list. Stinky tofu was barely stinky. Dumplings are whatevers. Beef noodle soup was too think and flavor as weird. Veggies were good but you can't mess that up. Minced pork rice was probably the only good thing there but that was still mediocre to me. New favorite spot for Taiwanese food. Authentic with friendly service. And it's MSG free! IMHO, this place deserves much better ratings. Many people seem tripped up by the name "Tofu King", expecting STANKY tofu like the ones in Taiwan where the health codes and regulations are completely different. I have to say Tofu King's as good as it gets for stinky tofu outside of Taiwan. Besides the stinky tofu and other Taiwanese fares, they also offer homemade frozen goods such as dumplings, wontons, Taiwanese sausages and more to bring home. As with all casual Taiwanese restaurants, when the waiters see you are Asian, they will speak to you in Mandarin, automatically assuming you understand. With that said, however, Tofu King is known for their Taiwanese style "stinky tofu" and it is good (once you get past the odor). The waiters are extremely friendly and talk to you like you are one of their close friends. The restaurant is small enough that you will be noticed the minute you need service. The food is super cheap: $3.50 for a bowl of mushroom and minced pork rice with egg, $5 for stinky tofu, $4.50 for a soy sauce combination plate. You also get to enjoy the Chinese music... Pretty decent Taiwanese food here with old school taste and prices. The boneless chicken rice is my go-to order at this restaurant. They also do pretty good stinky tofu either fried or steamed (hence the name). Minced pork rice and sesame noodles are great too. Customer service = 5 . Friendly staff, especially the outgoing guy who regularly works there. Place looks clean for your typical chinese restaurant in SGV. Food = 3 ~ 4 . Like most restaurants, there are some forgettable items and some wellknown ones. My favorites are the lu ruo fan (braised minced pork on rice) and stinky tofu. Tofu is not as stinky as I prefer, but it's still tasty. The more tolerable stink is a major plus for my korean husband, who recently learned to like it. Price = 4 . Affordable taiwanese food. Relatively authentic Taiwanese food. The stinky tofu is really good (yes, stinky tofu is good). Didn't smell as much as what it's like back home (Wuhan, China), but the taste is there. The, um, dunno what it's called in English, but the 胬肉饭 (pork rice?) was delicious. The chicken cutlet was delicious. The soup (I forgot which one I ordered) was delicious. It's a medium-sized shop. Nothing fancy. Cash only. The staff is really friendly. The old guy (we call them "uncle" in Chinese) who takes your order is really nice. He might be the owner. Their grade on the window when I visited was a "B", that kind of made me to have second thought of going in, but I tried it anyway since I've been wanting to for a while now. Their stinky tofu was good, but I wish it can be even more stinky. I have tried other place in SoCal that had stinkier flavor. I wanted the sliced pork rice but mistakenly ordered ground pork rice, which was good anyway. Their pork blood rice cake was a little to mushy and soft, lacked texture, but the sauce and peanut powder they use made it taste good. I would probably return again. Minus 2 stars because my wife and I both got stomachache afterwards. Hope it won't happen again the next time we come so it can be a 5 star. read more

This place has its up's and down's. The best thing I had here was probably the SLICED PORK RICE. That's right, caps to that in case anyone misses it. This is literally sliced pork, but using the really FATTY meat. HOWEVER, IT'S DELICIOUS! As for the stinky tofu, I've never had it before. So I can say it tasted pretty good although it didn't particularly 'wow' me, but good enough til I try other stinky tofus. As for the taiwanese sausage rice, it was mehhhhhhh. I guess the sausages taste are the same anywhere, but I must say I think Old Country Cafe tastes better. The beef noodle soup was ok, but I didn't particularly like the soup base. It is definitely from the other shops I visit, but I'll just leave it at that til next time. And yes! There will be a next time because it wasn't bad for some munchies. :) read more

this place is a great homestyle Taiwanese place. I ordered the minced pork belly and mushroom rice...it tasted wonderful and all the juicy flavors penetrated every grain of rice. it's pretty cheap and comes with some pickled vegetables and a whole tea egg. also, the stinky tofu was superb. though i wished it could be even stinkier, it did the trick. that comes with pickled cabbage which goes well with the tofu. knowing some mandarin helps with ordering, as it is a typical chinese restaurant...little service, little English, but great food. they do have english translations, and the items are numbered. as of 3/26/13, the signage from the previous place "Chan's Paris N" is still up, so hopefully they sort that out. takeout is better than eating in...atmosphere is a bit odd. read more

I honesty dont know how this place can get 4+ stars! Since everyone ordered/raved about the mince pork rice. I ordered it. OMG, I felt soo sick afterwards... Its was nothing but grease! I thought I was gonna die from a heart attach! The worst Ive ever tasted. Every bite was nothing but fat and grease! Gross! Yuck! The stinky tofu was ok. I had better.. We also, ordered the spicy oil wonton.. The wonton was kinda small with not much meat it in..every bite was just skin of the wonton. I think the ingredient they use at this restuarant is very low grade! They probably buy the cheapest of everything. Hence the pork rice! I still cannot get over it.. It was so gross! FYI, I am normally not a picky eater. but I after a couple of bites.. I couldn't eat it anymore...Back to the rest of my review. I think the only good dish we ordered was the A-vegetable dish. I would have given this place a 2 stars, but I cant get over the rice dish.. I rather eat at Arcadia food court than here.. they have better food there. read more

woot woot! affordable taiwanese street food right in our backyard! so my mom, sister, and i have been experiencing a bit of a taiwanese street food craze lately. we happened upon this lovely little place after driving 20 minutes to monterey park and realizing that another place was closed :( once you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell of stinky tofu that almost knocks you out; for those of you who don't know what it smells like, think feet that haven't been washed for years + public bathroom. the second thing you notice is the haphazard looking decor. the fact is, if you want to enjoy stinky tofu, i'm sorry but you're going to have to put up with the smell. it may be off-putting, but the food itself is yum. and hey, the decor, or lack thereof and the smell makes it feel like taiwan, plus it probably contributes to the low prices :) don't waste money on the frilly, unnecessary lights and fancy wallpaper! what i have tried: the ground pork with rice noodle-- pretty good but not the best. the stinky tofu!-- i actually can't get over the smell but my mom and sister adore it! three large slabs of tofu fried to perfection served with pickled cabbage and garlic dipping sauce. lu rou fan--basically meat on top of rice with preserved vegetables, but it's so much more than that! they make a very good stewed pork... *droool* the meatball--mehh more coating than meat and the sauce is mediocre. the meatball soup (the premade ones, darn i wish i could explain it with my english words...) with noodles-- yum yum yummmm! good soup, good texture on the noodles, bean sprouts make anything good. sausage rice-- comes with sausage, corn, cabbage, and rice with ground pork stew. it's alright but there's other delicious food to distract me! pork leg rice--yum! my mom and my sister enjoy this! it comes with the same sides as the sausage rice. my mom says the pork leg tastes more than authentic!!! overall, the portions are a little small but that would probably not be the case if you're eating your own individual order. also, the prices make up for this problem; you get what you pay for and more!!! if you're looking for some awesome, authentic taiwanese street food, this is the place to go. p.s. seems like they only speak chinese, or maybe it's just a preference. broken english is a small price to pay for awesome food! read more

Happened upon this place after yelping. Stinky tofu wasn't that great. I've eaten better ones. The dumpling in chili oil wasn't that great either. Though the sliced pork over rice was quite tasty and salty at the same time. Would I go back there again? I don't think so. read more
