I love this little Waialae restaurant! Everything I've bought here has been delightful! I'm not someone who eats out a ton, but this is a go to. The best part? They can and will make almost anything in the menu gluten free! Win for us allergy folk. The pad Thai is something I've craved my whole pregnancy. It is delicious and filling. I come here every few weeks for a fix. I'm also a big fan of their curries. The other noodle dishes I've tried are yummmmmm! I can't speak to the service other than friendliness at pickup. My toddler makes eating out no fun. So, take out it is. They've always been quick, kind and friendly. You have to ask for napkins, cutlery, chopsticks. They're happy to provide. I'm glad they don't just hand it out though. I hate wasted plastic. Keep in mind their spice levels. If you order three stars (Thai low), it's not going to be American medium. To Thai For, a small business restaurant, has delicious homemade authentic Thai curries. The two sisters and mom trio have a variety list to offer. Our favorite is the panang curry with a spicy upgrade from mild. The additional order of green papaya salad and pad Thai noodles is always a winning combination with just enough peanuts sprinkled. The friendly waitresses come by if not one of the sister owners, always gracious and accommodating. She's suggested some great specials, too. read more

My friend and I came here while in the neighborhood. To our surprise To Thai For is a great fine. We ordered the summer rolls, panang curry and pad seyu. The food came out fast, but we we're the only one here for lunch. The summer rolls were light and refreshing. We ordered the panang curry with chicken. I would have recommended it a little more spicer, but my friend likes it mild. The curry paired welll with the sticky white rice. The pad seyu noodles was sweet and smoky. Covid-19 Takeout It was lunch time and I couldn't make up my mind on to eat, so I decided that stomach wanted Thai food. To Thai for was takeout only during my visit and they have a nice menu that you can combine tofu, chicken, beef, shrimp or other seafoods with the different variety of dishes. My choice was Thai Basil Chicken with Sticky Rice, medium heat. You have a choice on how hot you want to go. I found the dish pretty spicy, but the flavor and heat was delicious with sticky rice. The restaurant itself does have seating area to dine in, I'll come back when to eat in one of these days. I Love this neighborhood Thai restaurant! The evening I visited, the ambiance is nice and cool with some soft jazz music. The service is homey and personal. The lady seems to know all her old timers, which is always a good sign. For the menu, other than your usual Thai curry and noodles, I highly recommend the fried tofu. It is served with a home made peanut sauce. It is so crispy and tasty! We also ordered the mom's radna noodle dish with flat noodles. The veggies and the sauce are so delicious. When I needed help to understand the menu, they were patient and understanding and provided clarifications always with a smile and nice-tone of voice, unlike many other Asian restaurants where you feel like you are being scolded by a foreigner in your own home country, right? Food was excellent!!! I was told that the 80 year old owner was cooking and the daughter was our waitress! We had chicken pad thai, labb tofu mild spicy, and chicken satay. Everything was super tasty without being too salty! This is probably in the top 5 restaurants in Kaimuki!!! Highly recommended! I have not eaten Thai food in forever and was craving some, so I have decided to check out a few of the local Thai restaurants one by one until I find a favorite! I love Kaimuki and the local businesses around there, so I decided to start with To Thai For as my first spot to try. The overall reviews on here looked decent and I thought the name was clever. When we walked in To Thai For, there were 2 other tables filled and generally quiet on an early Friday evening. It took longer than we expected to get our Tom Yum Soup as a starter, with a side of rice, Muay Thai Pork Chop and Pad See yew as the main dishes. The Tom Yum Soup was great! Perfect balance of sourness and the seafood medley was tasty in it. The Pad See Yew and Pork Chop lacked overall flavor. I was quite disappointed as I feel Pad See Yew should be a standard. We did not receive our bowl of rice. I'm glad I got to try To Thai For, but I will keep searching for a great Thai restaurant around town. read more

I have been to this location a handful of times over the years as friends rant and rave about how good it is. After every visit I say the same thing, "surprisingly underwhelming." The food is decent but nothing stand out about it compared to other locations. The staff is friendly and service is good but for the price the food should provide a little more wow factor. Currently the interior needs some serious renovations as the ceiling has significant water damage. By far our favorite Thai restaurant on Oahu after trying at least a dozen while living on the island for a few years. Our favorite dishes were the hometown curry, Buddha's joy, pad see ew, jasmine fried rice, and the spring rolls. The hometown curry with chicken and sticky rice was my personal favorite - I have yet to find anything like it on the menu of other Thai restaurants since moving away. Wrapping the spring rolls in the lettuce with the mint makes them exceptional. We typically ordered our food spice level 3-4, and the added flavor is phenomenal. The owner is always extremely kind and quickly remembered our names and orders after a few visits. We came here about 2-3 times/month for over a year from Kailua, and it was always worth the trip. read more

Parking is in the large lot in the back that seems to be challenging during dinner time. This is my second time here. Staff is definitely very friendly and the food good quality. I do feel the prices are a tad higher than they should be. Three of us for dinner, two beers, glass of wine, soup, 3 entrees, 3 desserts came out to $110 + tip. We came here on our most recent trip, since our friends enjoy eating here and like that it's authentic. We parked in the lot behind the restaurant and found a spot fairly quickly. We ordered several dishes, but only got pictures of some, since the gang was hungry. I really enjoyed my Yellow Chicken Curry. It came with slices of Chicken, Potatoes, Carrots and Onions, along with a bowl of rice. My son ordered the Muaythai Pork Chops, which were awesome. They were tender and had the perfect amount of seasoning. I'll have to keep this in mind upon my next visit. The Pad Thai and Pad Seyu were also delicious. We also enjoyed an order of Spring Rolls and had the Mango Sticky Rice to complete the meal. Service was friendly and very accommodating. We've been here twice in the last week since we discovered To Thai for. We love the pumpkin curry and pad kee mao, with an honorable mention going out to their Thai iced tea. The food is amazing, which keeps this 12-table restaurant bumping during peak hours, but also keeps the two servers extremely busy. To Thai For is worth the wait in my opinion, as consistent, flavorful Thai food has been hard to find since moving to Oahu. The prices are moderately high, with our two dishes, two drinks, and a side of rice adding up to about $50. Not bad at all for the pleasure of dining on delicious Thai food with friendly service and a quiet dining area. Parking can be found behind the restaurant (roadside parking is a nightmare) for a few dollars. They have male and female restrooms located in the restaurant and are very accommodating with children. Make a reservation if your party is larger than 4 as it fills up pretty quickly. read more

Literally to Thai for.. I have been visiting this place for 15 years and visit it every time I'm back on the island. I've tried every Thai place on the island and non hits the spot like To Thai For does. The food is exquisitely prepared. My go to dishes are Pad Thai, Penang Curry and steam rice. This was a very pleasant surprise and an amazing meal at this Thai restaurant a friend told me about and decided to check out. The restaurant very visible from the road, but can be a bit challenging with limited street parking in the area. I recommend parking in the municipal parking located in the back which can be accessed from the side streets off of Waialae Ave. One thing to note is that this place is a real Thai restaurant run by Thais. Many Thai restaurants are actually run by Laotians. Nothing wrong with that, but sometimes the flavors can be a bit different as well as the offerings. We started with the calamari as our appetizer which as a great call. The calamari was made from large chunks cut from a filet and not small strips or rings. They were cooked perfectly in a golden crisp batter. Some of the best I have ever had. Now I normally shy away from fried rice because here in the States, they just don't cook it properly and it is more like tossed rice with cheap frozen vegetables and some precooked protein added in. Their pineapple fried rice was actually properly cooked with lots of premium ingredients and the shrimp was added to it at just the right moment to be cooked with it to perfection. The pumpkin curry was a healthy savory delight. I had it with chicken and it was perfect, but if you are a vegetarian, they offer it with tofu as well. It was very flavorful and had a nice balance of vegetables, sauce and protein to make it the perfect curry that was good for you, but tasted amazing at the same time. If you are health conscious, vegetarian, or vegan, they got lots of options. However, if you like meat like I do, they do offer everything in the standard vegetarian, chicken, beef, shrimp, and fish options. Along with the great food, the service was very nice and supper friendly. It is a little slow after placing your order to get your food, but they prepare everything fresh for you without cutting corners, so it is well worth the little extra wait. The most unique dish, in my opinion, is the pumpkin curry. I love the contrast between the sweet pumpkin and spicy curry. We initially ordered our curry Thai medium, but was heavily warned by our server that it may be too hot, so ended up settling on Thai mild. In my experience, my friend and I tend to have a higher tolerance for heat, and found the Thai mild a bit too mild; ultimately, we ordered more spice to add more of a kick, and the server felt we could've handled the Thai spicy. The deep fried tofu is amazing! It comes with two dipping sauces - a peanut sauce and a sweet chili sauce. We also ordered the crab fried rice...to die for! The only criticism I have for this restaurant is the portion sizes. I have never left a Thai restaurant hungry, and I am disappointed to say, that we left hungry. This is a once-in-a-while place to eat, given its prices to portion size ratio. There are a plethora of Thai restaurants to choose, on the island, and if you take into consideration portion, price, and quality, there are several other restaurants to consider. read more

My husband and i went to this restaurant as we were able to find parking quickly right in front. The food is good and we order them spicy, since my husband is Caucasian, we told them we can eat normal spicy - and it turned out to be very spicy. My husband loved it but it was a bit too spicy for me. The curry was very good, while the noodle in the pad kee mao is thinner than usual i think, and they are quite broke apart. So that makes the dish looks kinda messy, but the flavor is still as good. The service is very good and friendly. One thing to keep in mind is the parking, it is a busy area so it might be hard to find parking right in front of the restaurant.
