Sabb Thai - Our Happy Place for E-Saan Flavors! We're not just regulars here we basically live here! 3 to 4 times a week kind of regular. Why? Because the food slaps. Northeastern Thai (E-Saan) dishes done right spicy, funky and full of soul. Must-tries? Oh, where do we begin... * Lao-style papaya salad with fermented fish sauce that brings the heat and flavor punch * Grilled pork cheek salad (num tok moo) that's smoky and juicy * Crispy fried chicken wings for that perfect crunch * Fried or steamed tilapia swimming in veggies * Pork rib tom yum that hits you with that sweet, sour, spicy goodness * And don't sleep on the dried beef jerky with sticky rice it's a match made in E-Saan heaven. The auntie who runs the place? She's a whole vibe funny, welcoming and always ready with a laugh. Feels like eating at your favorite Thai auntie's kitchen table. The ambience? Hmmm Straight up Thai countryside vibes. Simple, cozy and sometimes they play local Thai music that makes you wanna get up and dance. So much joy in one little spot. This place is our mood booster, comfort zone, and flavor playground all in one. Sabb Thai = happiness in E-Saan form.

Good food, small place but cozy. Only saw one lady doing everything. She was very lovely and sweet.

It's been a couple years since I last have been here. I brought my friend Ben here. To me, this place is more of a plate lunch place rather than a family style dish sharing meal venue. In other words, when I dine here, I usually am alone, but if I come with someone else, I don't want to share my food. Ben ordered yellow chicken curry. I ordered the pad gra pow, my go-to one dish meal. Same same, but different. The pad gra pow had less basil and a lot of ground pork. It also had onions, bell peppers (both green and red), carrots, bamboo shoots, and beans. I prefer fewer veggies in my pad gra pow, but most of the above items were sparsely used so it was good. The taste is slightly different since different cooks use similar ingredients but vary the amount of flavorings. I can only comment on the pad gra pao since that is the only dish I have ever eaten here, but have eaten it more than a dozen times over the years. It's good.

Ambiance - don't expect too much because it's really a hole in wall kind of spot and I LOVE it. Feels like i'm dining in someone's house. It's on the corner of the street and if you get lucky, there's parking in front. If not, there's plenty of street parking or in Don Quijote. Food - soooo tasty and flavorful. Beware, Laotian spice level is REALLY SPICY. I like some heat but I can only take on mild. But my friends that loves spicy food says that their spice is something you can enjoy and eat a lot of. We got the eggplant stir fry in mild and pad thai in medium spice (I couldn't handle this medium but my boyfriend LOVED it) Service - we didn't dine in this time but cashier was super nice!

One person working but friendly and prompt service. Panang curry was tasty. I will return to try other dishes.

Good papaya salad. Taste as good as back home(Bay Area) if you miss home food. Just not spicy.Beef soup is not bad as well. Boat noodle was a little too bloody. But overall food was good.

The restaurant is very simple not much decoration. It may not be fancy but don't judge the book by its cover. Let me tell you, the food is awesome!!! Today I ordered Somtum Plara, it was very delicious. I'm originally from Thailand and I felt like I'm eating it in Thailand. The food was very authentic. Especially if you love spicy food, this place is a must go. If you can't handle the spicy not to worry, they can adjust the spicy level accordingly to your preference. All the staffs here were very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. They were going above and beyond. Love this place. Definitely will come back if I ever come to visit Hawaii again in the future. Recommend to all who love Thai food.

The drunken noodles were extremely hot. I can eat spicy food but this I couldn't even eat. Was not asked spice level upon ordering. The flavor was good but I couldn't taste anything after a few bites. The yellow curry was extremely fishy. All I could taste was very salty fish sauce. It was very watery. Not a lot of vegetables. Just some cabbage bits and carrots. The service was great! The woman offered hot sauce that was tasty. Two dishes was about $35. Lately, I had a terrible stomach ache the next morning. Would not return.

Pork green curry, deep delicious, rich flavors and textures. Get it with the sticky rice!

Incredible hole in the wall Thai and Lao restaurant. The food is complex, aromatic, delicious, and authentic. We got the crispy rice salad/lettuce wraps Nam Kao and the green curry with pork and sticky rice. So good, we are definitely coming back!

Coming late out of our conference meeting, our group of 15-ish walked a block north of the convention center to find this cozy Thai joint. With our cohort quickly taking over the 3-4 tables, the friendly and welcoming owners helped us move tables and find seating for everyone before promptly passing out waters and menus. Plates began arriving not long after our orders were placed, fresh from the kitchen - here are my thoughts on what I tried: Penang curry - Nutty and sweet, this creamy curry was packed with goodies and was just thick enough to spoon over rice; definitely curious to try the other curries if this one turned out so well! Crispy rice (nam khao tod) - This generously-sized portion of crispy rice with sausage was outstanding, balancing texture with savory flavor and a hint of acidity. Get one for the table to share as an appetizer. Drunken noodles (pad ki mao) - These came out screaming hot (temperature-wise), which is always a good sign when it comes to fried noodles. We loved the tender, saucy noodles, and the shrimps were plump and delicious. Spring rolls - These guys were fried to perfection, served with ESSENTIAL accoutrements in the form of herbs, rice noodles, and tangy sauce. I was the only one wrapping them in the lettuce - more for me! Thai tea - A little bit on the sweet side for me, but a welcome respite from some of the spicier foods. We were so impressed by their hospitality and their willingness to take on such a large group. They even obliged our request to take a big group photo and do a little bit of bill splitting - even more memorable than the amazing food was just how kind and patient the staff were. If I'm ever back in Honolulu I'll definitely have to swing by Sabb for lunch or dinner!

Came here because I was missing home and craving Lao food. The food was AUTHENTIC and the aunties were so nice Service was amazing. If you miss home and also Lao food this where you should go! P.S they had a birthday get together for one of the aunties daughter and didn't hesitate to include me in it, reminded me of home. Came the day before and ordered Khao Piek! My dish looks very spicy because I added pepper to MY LIKING! It comes plain and you add whatever you like after!

Unfortunately, the rewards program experience left a very bad impression. We spent over $300 and were never informed about the rewards program until after we had already paid and received our to-go box. When I asked if our purchase could be applied to a newly created account, the request was denied. If a restaurant offers a rewards program, guests should be informed before paying so they have the opportunity to earn points on their visit. It feels unfair to advertise rewards but not make customers aware of them until it's too late to benefit. We enjoyed the meal itself, but the lack of transparency regarding the rewards program took away from an otherwise great experience. Management should do a better job of informing guests before checkout.

It's a suitable replacement for the time, for families to enjoy sushi or a Teppanyaki dinner "show". The layout has the Teppanyaki dining tables in the front as you enter, rather than at the back of on the side. I suppose it gives an air of excitement as you walk in and watch the chefs put on their show, but the level of "noise" it creates is a bit overwhelming if you're trying to enjoy a nice dinner with a date, or family and friends Our extended family (10 people) went there for an early (5:30pm) dinner on Saturday, before Father's Day, and were seated at the side room behind the glass partitions. From there, we could hear everything happening at the Teppanyaki tables, as though we were right there; especially when they sang "Happy birthday" about 4 different times for the parties enjoying their dinner. Just as a "heads up", I'm not against it, but it was really difficult for us in the other room to actually have a normal conversation across the table while ago that was happening. The food is pretty decent, with a wide selection of sushi rolls and other standard items. I'm not a big sushi roll eater, I prefer great sashimi and an occasional nigiri, but the rolls were pretty good, with several unique offerings. They have Oyster shooters and Uni shooters that come as 2 per order. There were 3 of us (me, my daughter and SIL), so we asked if we could just order 3, rather than 4, but sadly, no. It was fine, and someone in the group ate the other one, but I wished they would price it as each; as most other restaurants that have this item do. The sashimi was average, but it's more of a family dining spot, rather than a sushi bar. The service was good, and everyone enjoyed the food and fellowship. My guess is that the person who took the reservation simply forgot to note our request. Second, the dining room was uncomfortably hot, which made it difficult to enjoy shabu-shabu and sukiyaki. We were perspiring throughout the entire meal, despite the waitress redirecting a floor fan toward our table. I repeatedly asked about the air conditioning but couldn't get a straight answer from either the waiter or the waitress. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. Lastly, something seems to have changed with the parking validation. Just a weeks ago, we ate at the teppanyaki section, and our parking was validated for three to four hours. This time, however, we were charged $6.00. That simply doesn't make sense. After spending several hundred dollars on dinner, we still had to pay for parking? Needless to say, this policy is likely to be a major turnoff for diners visiting the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. I truly enjoyed the food and service overall, but these issues significantly affected what should have been an excellent dining experience.
