Pad See Ew w/gai (chicken) - chili peppers in soy & fish sauce condiment in back
    Peter Y.

It's been a couple years since I last have been here. I brought my friend Ben here. To me, this place is more of a plate lunch place rather than a family style dish sharing meal venue. In other words, when I dine here, I usually am alone, but if I come with someone else, I don't want to share my food. Ben ordered yellow chicken curry. I ordered the pad gra pow, my go-to one dish meal. Same same, but different. The pad gra pow had less basil and a lot of ground pork. It also had onions, bell peppers (both green and red), carrots, bamboo shoots, and beans. I prefer fewer veggies in my pad gra pow, but most of the above items were sparsely used so it was good. The taste is slightly different since different cooks use similar ingredients but vary the amount of flavorings. I can only comment on the pad gra pao since that is the only dish I have ever eaten here, but have eaten it more than a dozen times over the years. It's good.

Good food, small place but cozy. Only saw one lady doing everything. She was very lovely and sweet.

Ambiance - don't expect too much because it's really a hole in wall kind of spot and I LOVE it. Feels like i'm dining in someone's house. It's on the corner of the street and if you get lucky, there's parking in front. If not, there's plenty of street parking or in Don Quijote. Food - soooo tasty and flavorful. Beware, Laotian spice level is REALLY SPICY. I like some heat but I can only take on mild. But my friends that loves spicy food says that their spice is something you can enjoy and eat a lot of. We got the eggplant stir fry in mild and pad thai in medium spice (I couldn't handle this medium but my boyfriend LOVED it) Service - we didn't dine in this time but cashier was super nice!

One person working but friendly and prompt service. Panang curry was tasty. I will return to try other dishes.

Good papaya salad. Taste as good as back home(Bay Area) if you miss home food. Just not spicy.Beef soup is not bad as well. Boat noodle was a little too bloody. But overall food was good.

The restaurant is very simple not much decoration. It may not be fancy but don't judge the book by its cover. Let me tell you, the food is awesome!!! Today I ordered Somtum Plara, it was very delicious. I'm originally from Thailand and I felt like I'm eating it in Thailand. The food was very authentic. Especially if you love spicy food, this place is a must go. If you can't handle the spicy not to worry, they can adjust the spicy level accordingly to your preference. All the staffs here were very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. They were going above and beyond. Love this place. Definitely will come back if I ever come to visit Hawaii again in the future. Recommend to all who love Thai food.

$17 way too spicy but good flavor

The drunken noodles were extremely hot. I can eat spicy food but this I couldn't even eat. Was not asked spice level upon ordering. The flavor was good but I couldn't taste anything after a few bites. The yellow curry was extremely fishy. All I could taste was very salty fish sauce. It was very watery. Not a lot of vegetables. Just some cabbage bits and carrots. The service was great! The woman offered hot sauce that was tasty. Two dishes was about $35. Lately, I had a terrible stomach ache the next morning. Would not return.

Pork green curry, deep delicious, rich flavors and textures. Get it with the sticky rice!

Incredible hole in the wall Thai and Lao restaurant. The food is complex, aromatic, delicious, and authentic. We got the crispy rice salad/lettuce wraps Nam Kao and the green curry with pork and sticky rice. So good, we are definitely coming back!

Bro! I'm telling you... These are no joke. You better be sitting down when you eat these because you gonna get weak in the knees. Service is always good here. Go stuff your face with these stuffed chicken wings. You'll thank me later... Chee doggy!

Coming late out of our conference meeting, our group of 15-ish walked a block north of the convention center to find this cozy Thai joint. With our cohort quickly taking over the 3-4 tables, the friendly and welcoming owners helped us move tables and find seating for everyone before promptly passing out waters and menus. Plates began arriving not long after our orders were placed, fresh from the kitchen - here are my thoughts on what I tried: Penang curry - Nutty and sweet, this creamy curry was packed with goodies and was just thick enough to spoon over rice; definitely curious to try the other curries if this one turned out so well! Crispy rice (nam khao tod) - This generously-sized portion of crispy rice with sausage was outstanding, balancing texture with savory flavor and a hint of acidity. Get one for the table to share as an appetizer. Drunken noodles (pad ki mao) - These came out screaming hot (temperature-wise), which is always a good sign when it comes to fried noodles. We loved the tender, saucy noodles, and the shrimps were plump and delicious. Spring rolls - These guys were fried to perfection, served with ESSENTIAL accoutrements in the form of herbs, rice noodles, and tangy sauce. I was the only one wrapping them in the lettuce - more for me! Thai tea - A little bit on the sweet side for me, but a welcome respite from some of the spicier foods. We were so impressed by their hospitality and their willingness to take on such a large group. They even obliged our request to take a big group photo and do a little bit of bill splitting - even more memorable than the amazing food was just how kind and patient the staff were. If I'm ever back in Honolulu I'll definitely have to swing by Sabb for lunch or dinner!

    Drunken Noodle

Did not disappoint!! Food and service were awesome. We dinned early so plenty seating, and didn't have to wait long for water or menus. Food came out fast and was hot right from the cook. Food was SO GOOD. Drunken noodles were nice and fat like hand cut kine, plenty veggies and meat. Spice level was perfect. Pad Thai noodles were so chewy and flavorful-- no funk like sometimes get in pad thai. Service was excellent-- the server kept our water glasses full the whole time we were there. We will for sure be back.

The tables have seating for eight. We were lucky and our party of four had the table all to ourselves. It helps that you come before the dinner crowd. The drink selection is large compared to the entree menu. And that makes sense, the grill masters need to be in and out but you can enjoy drinks as long as you want. (Within reason) All the meats were done right. And by right I mean yummy to my tummy. We shared filet mignon, teriyaki beef, chicken, and the soft beef tongue between us. The shrimp was overcooked and sometimes the veggies can be too because they sit on the grill for the show. Each meal comes with white rice. You can pay extra for the fried rice upgrade. There's the standard wafu salad and the meal ends with a scoop of ice cream. Overall four stars. You're going to spend $$$$. This isn't a weekly event but celebrating a special occasion or a family treat it's worth it. I'm not sure how parking works if you're not staying at the hotel. Enjoy M

Special thanks to our server, Sasha, whose warmth, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality were extraordinary. She stayed cheerful and accommodating even in the busiest moments. Our chef, Joe, was equally remarkable. Knowing my 92-year-old mother needed her food chopped very small, he took great care to ensure everything was just right, even checking in to confirm the size of her chicken pieces. Joe also treated my husband and me to a special dish with his own homemade teriyaki sauce, explaining how he crafted it. His cooking skills, humor, and lively conversation made the evening feel personal and joyful. Watching him perform his signature fire and juggling tricks while chatting about travel had my mother giggling with delight! The food was, as always, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the poke (so fresh and flavorful!), soybeans with the perfect bite, shrimp, steaks, teriyaki chicken, lobster, scallops, and finished with their signature complimentary ice cream. We've been regulars at Tanaka for years, and it's clear why this restaurant continues to be one of Honolulu's treasures. My heartfelt thanks to the owner for maintaining such a consistently excellent establishment and to the entire team for their kindness, professionalism, and aloha spirit. I've been to other teppanyaki restaurants in my time, and Suntory focuses more on the quality of the food and service. There is no onion tower or chefs throwing shrimps in your mouth, which was exactly what we wanted- we wanted a nice dining experience and not a tourist entertainment spot. One thing that I noticed at Suntory is that their teppanyaki areas are situated in a way that there are 2 grills per section, one grill for 4 people. I saw that there were sections of 1 grill for 8 people to cater to large groups too, but having a smaller grill to share with another couple made the dining experience more intimate. Lastly, order their garlic fried rice!
