After 1.5 half hours of silent disco dancing at Highball, I had worked up an appetite. However, I did not want a full meal, but something to tide me over until I got home. While at Highball you could see the bright lights from TLC, which were alluring. TLC is located on S. Lamar across the street from Highball and the Alamo drafthouse. TLC appeared to have a million Christmas lights both indoors and outdoors. It is a casual restaurant with a Texas twist. You can find comfort food, fresh seafood, and 30+ beers on tap. The furniture is picnic style, which gives off a family friendly vibe. TLC has ample space. As such, it would be great for hosting large groups, families, or friends in a casual environment. Importantly, their patio is dog-friendly and will be well suited for your fur babies. I looked at the appetizer menu and had my heart set up on bacon-wrapped deviled eggs. Sounded so yummy and something I could eat while I drove home. However, the bartender told me they had been wiped out due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Noooooooooo!!! Say it isn't so. Yep, afraid so. Then, I trekked home without food. Once home, I wrestled up some snacks. This venue appears to be super cool. I look forward to returning and enjoying some of their menu items.

Bananas Foster waffle and brisket skillet hash
ciara m.

Went for brunch a few weeks ago with my boyfriend. I got the Bananas Foster Belgian waffle and he got the brisket skillet hash. My waffle was very crispy and golden brown, and the bananas foster topping was sweet and banana-y. I just wish I had gotten a savory side to balance out the flavors. My boyfriend enjoyed his brisket skillet hash, said it was very filling and hearty, and the avocado added some freshness to an otherwise heavy dish. I've been to TLC before for dinner and enjoyed their mac and cheese and fries, always a staple.

Thanks to foodie influencer @austineater, we went to try this place during game day 9/6. Completely flabbergasted to find out that it's been here for six years?! Nonetheless, the food was absolute bomb. We sat at the bar and had an attentive bartender, I think his name was Darren or Garrett (sorry!). I was shocked at how many tables were available during a UT game. This place should not be slept on and I can't figure out why it is. They even had the sound on for the game! We will definitely be back! Oh, also, bartender gave us a $25 off coupon for our next visit!! AND they give out free salt water taffy when you pay! Love that!

SXSW event book signing by Billy Mills

TLC was hosting a SXSW event and so I stopped by to check out the happy hour. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and accommodating. I ordered the lemon mussels They were out of the TLC premade margarita mix so I was told they could not make the margarita by hand in a shaker. So I had a frozen margarita with tajin. The book signing event by Billy Mills was amazing and he was on hand with his wife and co-author to personally sign the book. There was a spread of food including a salad bar, deviled eggs, hush puppies and shrimp cocktail. There were some great desserts available as well including brownies and berries. During the event, also tried the hibiscus 75 cocktail with Ford's Gin, Hibiscus Pomegranate Syrup, Lime, Prosecco.

Super delicious and affordable seafood spot. Snow crab was discounted on Wednesday (love that), and the shrimp was very fresh. Fun ambiance with outdoor seating as an addition. Attentive service as well! Just wish the lobster was in stock.

$1 oysters

Came here for dinner on a fun-filled cousins' day!! Visiting Austin for the first time so it was great exploring the area and easily navigating. Our service was very great in handling our large group while having the best, fun spirit! These oysters were amazing!!! I should've just ordered a whole dozen to myself as my entree

You have to get a seafood boil here!

You cannot beat $1 oysters year round. I go to TLC like 5-7 times a year. I absolutely love the oysters and seafood boils here. The atmosphere is very nice with the bright light and big windows. I don't mind that it's not in a plastic bag, I think it's still flavorful laid out in the dish. Seafood is pricey so the bill adds up but I think it's worth it for all the food that you get! Great for large parties and date night!

Atomic Shrimp

Great Happy Hour! Gulf oysters for $1 each all day everyday. They only ran out once when we went there. The Atomic Shrimp Cocktail is a must! Huge gulf shrimp swimming in a extremely spicy cocktail sauce. Whoa! Not for the timid. The service and the food are great!

Bbq Shrimp sandwich

Came here for lunch on a weekday and was honestly a little disappointed. Overall good for a seafood fix, easy parking, but poor service. Highlight was the fried okra appetizer- its so good and highly recommended! My table also tried the hush puppies and fried oysters. For a decent oyster fix Id recommend this restaurant, their oysters were very good. However, their sandwiches and chicken were not very good. I ordered the Shrimp BBQ sandwich and it wasn't good- the shrimp was skimpy and the flavor was a bit bland. The boils were good but seemed smaller portions for being for 2 people. I think what brings this restaurant down in stars was the service. They were very reluctant to provide substitutions for sides or food allergies, which is not common for a casual restaurant like this. They also took very long to bring out our food, and brought out some dishes way sooner than others which was awkward. Nice staff, but overall very poor service.

I will start by saying they did comp our entire meal so I can't be too upset. However this review is to warn others in case this happens to them. Weird miscommunication happened where we thought we were getting charbroiled happy hour oysters when in fact we were getting "higher quality" oysters for 55 dollars. Ordered a boozy milk shake and a sandwich that never came out. Took about an hour (without getting the sandwich) so if you are on a time crunch maybe this isn't the place. Interior is really really cute for the holidays and I saw some games in the corner so it's a shame our service experience was so bad. The people are really nice and when we asked for the manager they ended up comping everything so... take that as you will. Of the food we tried, the mac and cheese was solid but the oysters were horrible... so sandy and difficult to eat.

1lb Crab Legs

Every year the Rooster clan finds a nice spot for lunch just before we open presents. Try not to dine past lunch hours so service peeps can head home early. TLC Christmas eve was a hit with our family. I started with the raw oysters. For the price they were a win but I also wished for an additional sauce option. Then, something everyone would eat the charbroiled version. Even got dear ol' grandma to eat one. GF and I decided to split some Crab Legs (1lb) and the DKR Sandwich. The crab was cooked nicely; didn't even bother with the boiled veggies. The Sandwich had good flavor and soft bread; good chips too. Grandma chose the Pork Chop while Rooster went for the Chicken Fried Steak. No complaints even when we demanded the boy eat his vegetables. No complaints on service; will be back soon for more oysters!

Worst gumbo I've ever had in my life. They said it's served with rice but it was barely half a spoonful.

How are their crawfish boils?

TLC knows how to put together a crawfish boil! The crawfish were massive, clean, tasty, and impressively consistent. One of the best offerings is that they offer about 6-7 different seasonings to try out. My favorites are the Cajun and Smoked Garlic… Read more

Do they allow dogs on the patio?

Yes, they do...will even bring doggie water bowls out.

Is the full menu available during brunch?

Yes, it is. Full menu available at all times, so there is an overlap.

Is it gluten free?

Yes.

The waitress said their whole menu was gluten free but I didn't risk it on their chicken fried steak. Is it really gluten free? The batter and gravy looked too good to be true!

Bread pudding was delicious! Not overly sweet & the added white chocolate gives it that dazzle dazzle 2. Chocolate Espresso Brownie - perfection NOT THAT: 1. Banana cream pudding. Friendly staff overall. The food fell flat for almost all of us. The salads were fresh and good. However, the ribs were below average. Cornbread was stale and not tasty. Biscuits tasted more like firm bread and not at all flaky/soft. That seemed weird to all of us. Chicken fried steak was soggy and not crispy. Drinks were ok. Not quite sure why the food was subpar, but there were 10 of us who all agreed we wouldn't return for food. There is a swanky little cozy speakeasy in the basement that may be good? We didn't try that.

So we thought we would make a whole night of it. Tiffany did make reservations for us for 7pm and even though this is a bar hopping neighborhood, even at 7pm it was pretty busy. Streets were full of people. Anthem had a vibe. I felt the energy as soon as I waked in. The cozy booths with the U shaped seating with plush green velvet fabric. Wait staff wore Hawaiian shirts. Sitting up behind me on a ledge was the Easter Island statue. Insert (Night At The Museum) here, dumb dumb give me gum gum. Anthem was our first stop tonight. Just drinks and a dinner. I ordered the Peach Fuzzy drink. Not too sweet, refreshing, peachy, and beautiful garnish of a flower. I ordered the Yummy Fries which looked like a salad. Gorgeous presentation. Fries were actually waffle sweet potatoes. Pickled ginger, sesame seeds, furikake, aïoli and a few other wonderful ingredients. Could not get over how beautiful everything looked. Presentation outstanding. Service delightful. Had a wonderful time at Anthem. We both did use the ladies rooms before leaving. Inside the bathroom there is a sign about safety and if you need assistants. I did take a picture of it. On our way out, Brian the manager, said good night to us and waved. We later saw Brian at another place. And I'll write about that in my review for that place as well. Brian, you're Doll, thank you for your hospitality.

We made the decision to leave before a full meal because the menu wasn't as vegetarian and gluten free friendly as we'd thought it might be. Danny was our waiter and he was very understanding! The cocktails were delicious, although definitely on the pricey side. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. The portions were extremely small, and the prices felt very steep for both the quality and the amount served. While the presentation was nice, the taste simply didn't justify the cost. On top of that, having to pay $15 for valet added even more to an already expensive evening. Overall, Nido is worth visiting once for the views and a cocktail, but I personally wouldn't return for dinner. There are plenty of other spots in Austin that offer much better value for the price.
