My husband and I have dined at Tina's for decades. Unfortunately under new ownership the food, service and attention to detail have slipped. We ate there last Saturday and started with two cocktails and the mushroom appetizer which was excellent but served with only two small, very thin crostini. The cocktails were fine (first the bartender brought my husbands, then went back and made mine and brought it - why two trips?) My glass was served with a very sticky stem so every time I took a drink my hands ended up sticky. Then the server came back to take our order - hmm, we already ordered (oh, she forgot?). For entrees I had the monkfish and spring risotto with the sun choke soup and my husband had the duck with a salad. The sun choke soup was watery and lacked any flavor, I never add salt to my food and had to put a lot in to get any taste at all. My husband's salad was fine. The monkfish was cooked properly but under seasoned and I estimate there was less than 4 oz of fish. The risotto looked like the cook decided to clean out the pantry, there were so many odds and ends of vegetables combined with perhaps 2 tablespoons of actual risotto. I have never had potatoes and sweet potatoes served in a "spring" risotto before and the combination of spring and root vegetables was not good, plus why put potatoes (a starch) in risotto (also a starch?). Plus it was not at all creamy as described but again watery. My husband's duck was good but brought to the table barely warm. The dining room is very loud but as I remember, it had always been a lively place. When presented with our bill we were informed that a 20% service charge is automatically added - I do not recall reading that on the menu and we were not told in advance. So, the $60 sub par monkfish entree actually cost $72. There are many other good restaurants in the area and we will probably not go back to Tina's. What a shame. read more

My husband and I dined here last night for my belated birthday dinner. Wonderful service and food. Everything was prepared to perfection from the sear and texture of the scallops to the cook on the lamb and duck and all of the flavor combinations worked well. I had a late lunch here on a rainy weekday. It was my first visit, but I was appropriate impressed that I'm sure I'll be returning. Service was very friendly, extremely competent, and the epitome of professionalism, in that I was in the mood for "just the facts," and that's exactly what I got. I started with oyster chowder, and it actually had the flavor of oysters. Sometimes you just get warmed up cream with a few oysters, but Tina's version actually tastes like oysters in each bite. Then, I made the fried oyster appetizer into my entree. Crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, a marvel of proper cooking technique. Delicious! Why only four stars? Tina's just hasn't reached that zenith representing the ultimate in dining. However, I think they have great potential, and I look forward to my next visit to see what they've done new. read more

OUTSTANDING RESTO While doing some winetasting in the Willamette Valley with another couple, we had dinner in this highly recommended restaurant. We were not disappointed. To start, we shared two apps: the Seared Sea Scallops and the Crispy Salmon Rolls. While both were very good, I thought that the sea scallops were better. For dinner, my wife had the Roasted Half Chicken and I had the Lamb Rack. My Lamb Rack was missing something; it was undercooked (I know this is a chef's preference, but in this case it rendered the meat mealy) and thus not as pleasing as rack of lamb usually is. However, my wife's chicken was fabulous - clearly the better of our two meals. The service and ambiance were exquisite, as was the wine choice (Atticus Pinot Noir, from a nearby vineyard in Yamhill, OR). My small gripe about the lamb is trivial overall and the meal was most enjoyable. Excellent selection of Pinots by the glass including the owner' sown label. Over 50 different PNs available by the bottle! My wife and I have been to the Willamette area half a dozen times and have always gone to the same places. We hadn't been to Tina's and noticed it had excellent reviews on Yelp so we gave it a try. We each shared a butternut squash soup. My wife ordered the stewed rabbit special and I had the German weisswurst sausage. Both were excellent! In addition to 50+ bottles of Pinots available, the owners of the restaurant have a few of their wines available by the glass. I started with one of their wines - felt a bit young and acidic but it was a 2012 I believe. I'm sure it will open up nicely in years to come. They also had 4 or 5 other PNs available by the glass. Service was excellent and was full of information about the local AVAs and wineries. Always a pleasure talking to the locals of Willamette who appreciate wine as much as I do! read more

In my previous review, I called Tina's a destination type of restaurant. My most recent meal here was pretty ordinary and frankly not a good value. I got mussels and duck. The mussels were fishy tasting. I stopped eating them. The waitress didn't ask me if I had a problem with them. That suggests maybe they've had others tell them they're not fresh. The dinner salad that came with the duck breast had large leafs that needed to be cut up. The lettuce was drenched in salad dressing. The duck breast was better, but not special. With a glass of wine, the bill came to $51. read more

So excited to finally visit Tina's. I've passed this restaurant for over 20 years thinking "I've heard that place is good. I should go there sometime." As everyone else has said, everything is hand made. Our cocktails were delicious. Steak was amazing. But the most magical dish of all ... the thing that I think about and obsess over constantly ... the thing I have brought up randomly and awkwardly in several unrelated conversations over the past three months ... is the mushroom appetizer. I don't even know what the hell its called. Maybe "Mushroom." I don't know. But get it. Go there tomorrow and get the mushroom appetizer. It's melty-in-your-mouthy delicious. Six of us stopped in for lunch after a morning at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville and before a late afternoon visit to a couple of wineries before heading to Lincoln City for a day or two of eating adventures there. We were a little intimidated about the idea of eating at Tina's, given we'd heard this is where captains of Willamette Valley Wineries eat and entertain, so we were pleasantly surprised to find such a low key, homey interior where we felt very welcome. Diners appeared to include locals on lunch hours as well as visitors and a range of ages from children to seniors. We were also surprised to find how subdued Tina's seemed even during the height of lunch service . Not a complaint for sure, the serenity was nice for the ability to carry on conversation around the table, but it was also surprising..in a good way. We expected great food, based on the buzz, and our expectations were met as we enjoyed wonderful meals all around from salads to hot sandwiches, to burgers to pasta dishes. The lamb stew, which one of our party had been eagerly anticipating based on reviews they read, was not available that day as I recall but no matter as there were many other options from which to choose. (Sample menus available at web site.) This was food prepared with locally sourced ingredients, creativity and attention to detail. Delectable and well priced too we thought given meals for six and an order of (yummy) onion rings for the table, coffee for the designated driver and a bottle of good Chehalem pinot noir (at $45ish price range) was about $110 before tip. Service was top notch for wait staff knowing the menu and being able to answer questions and make recommendations and for being attentive without being overly so. Not ultra friendly but professional. And they got delivery of all six meals right without having to "auction" of the dishes when they arrived. Yes...you know the irritating "auction" drill..."Who gets the burger?", "Who ordered the salad?" Mark of a well trained and professional staff that they don't have to do this at a larger table. Good for Tina's staff! The wine lists, by glass and bottle, are robust for options, as one might expect at a wine region restaurant. But it remains a puzzle to us (not just here but elsewhere) that with wine prices falling on wholesale level as wineries struggle with the recession and discount prices that by glass and bottle prices both on restaurant menus remain as high as they do. Intimidation factor now set aside, we look forward to returning to Tina's for dinner sometime...and that lamb stew! If Tina's were located closer to us we'd be regulars. read more

Very charming little restaurant. Quiet and comfortable. We started off with the soup of the day which we were not too fond of. Then we had the wild mushrooms which were very good. Then the Harris Ranch Beef Tenderloin which was superb. Top notch and cooked to perfection. The Halibut was also of freshest quality and cooked to perfection. Wonderful meal. I had the lamb - it was heavenly. The sauce was unusual - ok but a little voluminous. My husband had the ribs which he described as devine. Our friends had the tenderloin (seasoned well - good) and roasted duck - a little overlooked but ok. This gem is absolute perfection. It's more than meets the eye from the tiny facade you can easily pass by on 99w in Dundee. The moment you walk in the door, you are glad you came. Cozy and elegantly appointed, you feel at home. From the truffled wild mushroom sauté that was pure bliss to the perfectly prepared entrees and not to be missed desserts, you cannot go wrong. I can't think of a better way to cap off a great day of wine tasting than a great experience at Tina's. My wife and I enjoyed it so much. She had the scallops and loved them while I devoured my filet. I'm normally a ribeye fan but this filet hit the spot. Every course was prepared and seasoned to perfection. The carrot soup was a great starter and we finished with a creme brûlée. The staff worked together to deliver excellent service. My wife said she's never had a better meal. I really wanted to like this and have wanted to come for years. For the price point, it was pretty average. If it was half the price, I'd give it 4 stars. I don't consider myself cheap; I just think a $45 vegetarian soufflé better wow a person. The expectations are admittedly high. The ambience was average. The food came out pretty fast. The food we ordered were fantastic!! Whatever you do,, please order their sautee mushroom as ur appetizer!! Because its so umami good. Hubby ordered their goat cheese soufflé and it didnt dissapoint! I ordered their duck confit, while i love the sauce and the veggie that came with it, i wish the skin of the duck to be more in crispy side, but i still love the texture of the meat itself! We both are not an alocohol/wine drinker but they managed to make us the best Arnold Palmer!! And to finish our great dinner we shared their homemade Crème Brûlée which was very good. My husband, myself and two of our friends celebrated an early Valentine's dinner last night at Tina's. From our appetizers on our dinners were delicious. My husband is still talking about the mushrooms on his shrimp plate and the Foie Gras was as smooth as butter. All four of us were commented on our salads, they were a perfect combination of beauty and taste. We chose the lamb, the duck, and the salmon as our entrees, absolutely no complaints. I highly recommend the duck. We shared desserts which along with our coffees were the perfect ending to our evening. Our wait staff were delightful. We spent the day visiting local wineries and exploring the Evergreen Museum. We made reservations here for dinner, and were blown away by the experience. A truly magnificent restaurant offering excellent, simple dishes that make up a simple, but thoughtful menu. Service was attentive and personal. Ambience was cozy, romantic, warm, and inviting. We had early dinner reservations and were seated by the fireplace. Our table ordered the beef tenderloin, the salmon and the truffle chicken. All were prepared beautifully, accompanied by vegetables such as roasted cauliflower and potatoes. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert to share. It was fluffy, moist and decadent. Enjoyed an evening here with great service and a reasonable wine list! Food was all quite good if a little too much on the heavy side. My Scallop dish was the heaviest dish (holy butter) I've eaten in a long time. Good but I could only enjoy a single scallop and some of the isreali couscous that came with it. My 2 table mates that had the scallops voiced the same issue. The Vegan split pea soup was a winner though! Great flavor and texture! Our large group ordered most of the menu. The hits were the lamb, duck and beef tenderloin. We were all in agreement that the entrees were better than the appetizers. Service was beyond stellar! Our group definitely kept our server running ( sorrry;) but we never waited for anything. Final thought... there is a reason this restaurant has the longevity it has. Although I do not consider this a "5-star" restaurant, for what it is, it hits on all cylinders and thus warrants a 5 star rating. Basically, this is a cozy, comfortable place with very fresh, well executed dishes that may not be pushing the envelope in terms of unnecessary flair or esoteric ingredients, but all the elements of the meal were of the highest quality, seasonal, and prepared with rock-solid technique. The prices are reasonable, the service is unobtrusive and personable, and the portions were more than satisfying. The wine list was regional and impressive and the prices were also fair. I intentionally chose to take my wife here for our anniversary over Paulee, knowing it may be the hot new spot, but this place was classic and comfortable but not in any way boring or on auto-pilot. It is a food destination for foodies where substance takes precedent over flash and pulls it off beautifully. This is a great place that should be supported. It seems like there were a fair amount of regulars there, which speaks volumes. read more

I was touring Oregon wine country with a lovely lady, and we searched around for a good place to have a somewhat fancy meal. We were staying in Newberg, but found Tina's in Dundee. They took us without reservations with no problem. The owner and chef is a big proponent of buying from local farms and farmers. He prepares his limited but very fresh menu based on what's available locally and at the moment. As a result the ingredients are beautiful - what Gordon Ramsay would surely call "fresh and vibrant local produce". The food made with these top notch ingredients is also amazing. I had a roasted duck that was absolutely amazing. There were braised fresh greens with tiny green peppercorns in them that absolutely popped with flavor. I mean, flavor shot out of this stuff like crazy comes out of Glenn Beck. And it too made me cry, just a little. I wasn't as enthusiastic about the caramelized onion risotto that accompanied, but it was excellent...just not to my taste. Tina's pairs their local foods with local wines, too - and in the middle of Oregon wine country that gives them a great cellar to choose from. They're knowledgeable and enthusiastic about local wines. Service was informal and a little slow, but only because it's clearly a family-run business - they were friendly and helpful, just a little overwhelmed. This is the hubby and my favorite spot for date night dinners and celebrations while we were living in Oregon. Great atmosphere, attentive service, and quality food. As a couple who's always moving, we like to try new places and never really go to the same reataurant twice, but Tina's was an exception. I came here about 6 months ago, so this review may be somewhat dated. I was visiting Oregon for the first time from Los Angeles. My friend and I came in for lunch between wine tasting sessions. The restaurant is right in the middle of wine country and somewhat easy to miss from the road. It was somewhat empty, but I suspect they may be busier during dinner hours. I ordered the duck risotto and my friend had the squash soup. Both meals were excellent and service was fast. There really isn't much else to say about this place. We had the salmon, brussels sprouts, and oysters to start and the salmon, tenderloin and lamb for mains. All were so tasty. The positive: Wonderful side salad The establishement nicely was decorated and we were warmly welcomed. Service: Marginal - We had a early reservation ~5ish and for the time it took to recieve our meals was too long for a half filled resturant, yet the excuse the waiter used was that they had busy house. Dinner: The Crab gnocchi - Not worth it for the price. Very little Crab, the taragon sauce was like soup and the gnocchi weren't little puffs of heaven. I'd rather have eaten a soft pretzle from the movie theatre. I would have returned it but, I was freaking famished and didn't want to wait for another meal since the first one took so long.
