They're light, golden brown, and cooked just right. I've never had one that was burnt, greasy, or raw in the middle. They strike a nice balance between having a crisp exterior and a soft, fluffy center, and they're generously dusted with enough sugar to satisfy a sweet tooth without making a complete mess. The menu has plenty of classic Rhode Island favorites if you're looking for chowder, clam cakes, or other seafood, but for us it's always about the doughboys. They've become part of the ritual whenever we're at Oakland Beach, and it's one tradition we don't plan on changing anytime soon. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because this place is incredibly popular, especially during the warmer months. Depending on when you go, you may find yourself standing in line for a while. At 7:20 I went back and side and saw two 4 tops open and asked the waitress if either of those were for us. Her response "We can't sit 4 people at those tables only." Found that odd seeing as the other 4 tops had 4 people sitting there. She said she was waiting for the table in the back to finish and we could have that one. I said ok and ordered more drinks and went back outside. At around 8:15 a couple came strolling by us and asked what the wait was like. I said we had been waiting for an hour and a half, but they could go check if the bar had seats. 15 minutes after they went in I went in and saw them seated at one of the 4 tops that was open earlier. I asked the waitress why she would sit 2 people that just walked in at a table that fits 4 people that have been waiting for close to 2 hours. Her response "They had reservations." First off that's a total lie as I just spoke to them before they went in. Second, you said you don't take reservations for parties of less than 6 people!! To make matters worse, 2 other staff that my brother in law and I spoke to about the situation all gave differing stories about reservations. Again, you told me on the phone no reservations for parties under 6 people. And to top it off, no apologies, no offer to fix it, no offer of apps or dessert or anything. Not looking for freebies, but literally no remorse. All they did was hide in the back and try to ignore us until the bartender helped us. They also have a 'take out' window with a video menu on the building. It changes pages quickly so it may take a few rotations to decide. Restrooms inside are at the back and are clean. An ATM is just inside the door along with merch and the specials menu. Iggy's is a RI institution and with the addition of an outdoor bar and picnic tables near the beach there is more room for guests. Still, plan to arrive early or be prepared to wait for a seat. It had such potential and I was rooting for it, but it didn't pull through. I'd prefer a small portion of quality and flavor, it's how I roll but I know some like portion size. They deconstructed everything -- which was PERFECT for me because who wants a soggy sandwich? My warm butter-poached lobster roll came with the lobster meat packed separately in a cup, and the bun lightly buttered, toasted, but still soft on the inside. The roll itself was big enough for two sittings, so having it packed separately made it even better because I could put it together when I was actually ready to eat. Same thing with their A-list crabcake -- the crabcake separate, the little salad bed separate, the sauces separate. Lump crab meat, tasty, no complaints. The lobster bisque had good flavor too. I had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes, I realize it's a Saturday morning but that was kind of disappointing. They had me wait in the lobby. The included breakfast is technically a good deal, I saw on the Delta travel website it's $11 and I believe my bill would've been $21.... That being said, you only get four entrées to choose from, two of them being pancakes, which was disappointing because I was craving a more savory breakfast. I'm kind of weird and that I don't like eggs, I think I probably would've ordered the American breakfast minus the eggs had I read the menu more closely, but oh well. I ordered the lemon blueberry pancakes, they were gigantic with beautiful presentation and very delicious. Waitservice was also fine, I was checked on a few times. They have an outdoor seating area with a view of the river, which looked nice, but I sat indoors. Be aware that this is a cashless restaurant but they said I was able to leave a tip in cash so that was good. My total bill would have been about $21 and I left a cash tip. I would come here again when staying in the area, prices were not too bad for breakfast, but the fact that I had to wait like 15 minutes when they had tables available was a little frustrating. Not sure if maybe they did not have a table for two (technically one) available at the time.
